1932 - 2006
Bonnie Jean Cook Carter, age 73, of Gallipolis, died Friday March 24, 2006 at her residence. Born October 2, 1932 in Gallia County, she was the daughter of the late Griff and Edna Clyse Cook. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband Richard A. 'Dick' Carter, and by 3 brother in laws, Ray, George, and Charles 'Chod' Carter, and by a sister in law, Carol Carter.
Bonnie was a graduate of Cadmus High School, where she was a cheerleader. She was a member of The Gallipolis Emblem Club. She and her husband owned and operated Carters Plumbing in Gallipolis for many years.

She is survived by: Children: Mike (Betty Joe) Carter of Gallipolis, Charlene Carter of Gallipolis, and Rex )Denise) Carter of Westerville; 2 Sisters: Donita Simms of Rio Grande and Peggy (Larry) Bunsold of Maryville; 1 Brother: Griff (Pam) Cook of Bidwell; 6 Grandchildren: Joe (Marie) Carter of Gallipolis, Bryan (Mendi) Carter of Gallipolis, Jill (Justin) Morgan of Bidwell, Allen, Lacey and Kayla Carter all of Westerville; 3 Great Grandchildren: Brendan, Blaine, and Brodie Carter all of Gallipolis; Bonnie is also survived by many friends and her wonderful neighbors on Mabeline Drive; Brother in laws and Sister in laws: Rosalie, Eleanor, and Anna Lou Carter, Elizabeth 'Sis' Richards, Don and Ruth Carter, and Bill Carter.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday March 28, 2006 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Father Charles Slagle officiating. Burial will follow in Salem cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Maonday from 5-9 P.M. Pallbearers will be: Rick Simms, Jeff Simms, Mark Carter, Charles 'Cap' Richards, Mike Saum, and Gary Schaefer. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Charles 'Woody' Carter, Daniel 'Tuck' Carter, Jeff Carter, Larry Hood, and Chuck Phillips. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Holzer Hospice, 100 Jackson Pike Gallipolis, Ohio 45631

Robert E. 'Bob' Bush
1962 - 2006
Robert Eugene 'Bob' Bush II, age 43, of Columbus and formerly of Gallipolis, died Sunday March 19, 2006 in Gallipolis, in the company of his family and friends. Born December 14, 1962 in Pt. Pleasant, he was the son of Robert Eugene and Peggy Jean Shamblin Bush Sr., of Columbus.
In addition to his parents he is survived by: 2 Sons: Robert Alan (Misty Clark) Bush of Columbus, Matthew Rock (Stephanie) Bush of Tampa, FL; 3 Grandchildren: Mackenzie Marie Bush, Dillan Rock Bush, and Robert Eugene Bush III; 1 Brother: Bret B. Bush of Gallipolis; 2 Sisters: Lecta Mae Bush of Gallipolis and Tammie Kay (Randy) Might of Middleport. He was preceded by a brother Bart B. Bush, and by grandparents William M. and Lecta Mae Bush, and Herman Jesse and Emma Jean Gardner.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday March 25, 2006 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home 810 Second Avenue Gallipolis, with Larry Drummond officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Hill cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5-8 P.M.

Pallbearers will be: Robert A., Matthew R., Jason E., Bret B., and William C. Bush, and William R. Lewis.

Florence Tootie Ellcessor
1928 - 2006
Florence 'Tootie' Ellcessor, age 77, of Gallipolis, died Monday morning March 20, 2006 at Riverside Hospital in Columbus. Born July 3, 1928 in Gallia County, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Charles and Shirley Edith Danner Boster. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by a sister, Ruth Belville.
Tootie retired as the Director of Nutritional Services at Holzer Medical Center. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Elizabeth Circle and helped with the meals that the churchwomen prepared. She also volunteered her time at the Our House and at the University of Rio Grande.

She is survived by:

Ginger (Tim) Hemsworth of Cincinnati
Kim (Rick) Butcher of Gallipolis
June (Ty) Somerville of Pt. Pleasant
Chris Ellcessor of Gallipolis
6 Grandchildren: Erin and Jill Hemsworth, Adam and Mackenzie Greene, Taylor and Alex Somerville
Also survived by a host of very dear friends.

Funeral services will be 3:30 PM. Thursday March 23, 2006 at Grace United Methodist Church with Pastor Doug Stockton officiating. Entombment will follow at Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the Waugh-Halley-Wood funeral home on Wednesday from 6-9 PM. and at the church on Thursday one hour prior to services.

Memorial contributions can be made to Grace United Methodist Church in her memory.

Pallbearers will be: Jimmy Beaver, Ty Somerville, Tim Hemsworth, Tom Woodrum, Adam Greene, and Chris Rathburn.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Noel Massie, Bill Joe Johnson, and Bob Thomas.

Lawrence Lee 'Larry' Wood
1942 - 2008
Lawrence Lee Larry Wood, age 66, of Gallipolis, died Friday morning June 13, 2008 at the Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus. Born January 4, 1942 in Gallia County, he was the son of the late Aubra W. and Grace I. Roush Wood Monroe.
Larry retired from Heiners Bakery where he worked as a mechanic. He was a United State Army Veteran. He was a member of Centerville Masonic Lodge, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, Aladdin Temple Shrine, and the Gallipolis Shrine Club. He also greatly enjoyed deer hunting and raising a garden.

He is survived by his wife, Ronna Erwin Wood whom he married on June 23, 1967 in Pt. Pleasant, WV. 2 sons, Brian Wood of Gallipolis, and Kevin (Heather) Wood of Pt. Pleasant. 2 grandchildren, Hayley and Jaimie, and a brother, Carlos (Charlene) Wood of Gallipolis.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Monday June 16, 2008 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Bob Hood officiating. Burial will follow in Salem cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 6-9 PM.

Military Funeral Honors will be presented at the cemetery by the Gallia County Veterans Funeral Detail.

Masonic services will be conducted at 8:30 PM. Sunday at the funeral home by Centerville Masonic Lodge.

D. Paul Davies
1919 - 2008
D. Paul Davies, 88, Gallipolis passed away peacefully at Holzer Medical Center after a brief illness on Thursday, May 22, 2008. He had been born August 13, 1919 to the late J. Lehr and Sara Davies.
Paul grew up in Gallipolis and attended Gallia Academy High School. He received his bachelors degree in business from Ohio University, where he met the love of his life, his wife, Virginia. He was also president of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity while at O.U.

After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and attended the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland for officers training. As a lieutenant, he served on the staff Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz in the Pacific theater. Following discharge at the end of World War II, he returned to Gallipolis and founded Paul Davies Jewelers, which, having been purchased by son Dan in 1978, remains in business today.

Paul was active in the community that he loved. He was a founding member of the Gallipolis Kiwanis Club, as well as being active in the Gallia County Chamber of Commerce and the Gallipolis Retail Merchants Association. He was President of the former Gallipolis Savings and Loan and served on the Board of Directors for the Commercial & Savings Bank for 17 years, becoming Chairman of the Board in his later years. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of Holzer Medical Center from 1976-1985, serving on numerous committees and chairing the Community Relations Committee from 1981-1985.

Paul was a lifetime member of Elks Lodge #107. He loved to watch and play golf and was a founding member of Cliffside Golf Course. Those who know him thought of him as a true gentleman. He was a devoted husband and father, dearly loved by his family.

In addition to his wife, Virginia, he is survived by two children: Dan (Jackie) Davies, Gallipolis, and Kathy Davies (Barry Scott), Gahanna; a sister, Ann Davies, Chicago, Illinois; and two grandchildren, Jamie and Morgan.

Services will be held at 2:00 P. M. on Sunday, May 25, at Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home. Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 24. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made in Pauls memory to the Gallipolis City Park Beautification Fund, 518 Second Avenue Gallipolis, Ohio 45631.

Margaret Alice Miller
1918 - 2008
Margaret Alice Miller, went home to Heaven on Saturday April 26, 2008 at Holzer Medical Center. Born June 25, 1918 near Gallia County, she was the daughter of the late David L. and Roma Mae Morgan Griffiths.
Margaret graduated from Cadmus High School in 1936 and Holzer School of Nursing in 1939. She worked as a RN at Holzer Clinic in Gallipolis, hospitals in Columbus, Ohio and White Plains, New York. She married William B. Miller of the Rodney Community on July 21, 1943. Upon retirement, she and her husband returned to Gallia County where she served as a volunteer at Holzer Medical Center for several years. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Rio Grande.

She is survived by her husband, William B. Miller of Gallipolis;

2 Sons: Phillip I. (June) Miller of Patriot, and Carl T. (Miuyki) Miller of Tujunga, California; 3 Grandchildren: Sarah M. (Matt) Wamsley of Bidwell, Ohio, Dr. William G. Miller of Louisville, KY, and Virginia A. Miller of Patriot.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM. Thursday May 1, 2008 at the Salem Baptist Church, with Pastor James Lusher officiating. Burial will follow in Salem cemetery. Friends may call at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6 PM until 9 PM and at the church on Thursday from 10:00 AM until time of service.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to either Calvary Baptist Church or Salem Baptist Church.

James Matthew KisKIs
1932 - 2008
James Matthew KisKis, age 76, of Gallipolis, died Thursday April 17, 2008 at Ross Heart Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Born March 25, 1932 in Springfield, Ohio, he was the son of the late George Charles and Dorothy Jane KisKis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, George Jr., and by three sisters, Agnes, Patricia, and Mary.
James graduated from Catholic Central High School in Springfield, Ohio. He was employed by International Harvester and retired from Robbins and Myers after 42 years of service. He was an Amateur Radio Operator (W8PA) with extra classification. James enjoyed computers and his two cats.

He will be sadly missed by his Wife of 28 years: Norma B. KisKis,

Children: Brenda (Ross) Elliott, James Joseph (Terry) KisKis, Thomas (Nancy) KisKis, Kenneth (Karen) KisKis, Karen (David) McCarty, Daniel (Cecelia) KisKis, and Elaine (Greg) Forbes;

10 Grandchildren, 4 Great Grandchildren, and several step Grand Children and a Brother John; Also surviving is his former Wife: Zoie Taylor and a Sister-in-law Esther (Bill) Fanning. He also had an extended family of Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday April 21, 2008 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home, with Monsignor William Myers officiating. Burial will follow in Gravel Hill cemetery, Cheshire, Ohio. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 AM until time of service. Grandsons and Son-in-laws will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to either St. Louis Catholic Church Building Fund 85 State Street, Gallipolis, Ohio 45631 or the Perennial Cat Shelter PO Box 48 Gallipolis, Ohio 45631.

Elmer R. Smith
1922 - 2008
Elmer R. Smith, age 85, of Patriot, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday evening March 8, 2008 at Holzer Medical Center.
Born November 22, 1922 in Mingo County, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Leonard and Alice McDonald Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by, his wife, Lura B. Harrison Smith, sister, Frances Blankenship, three brothers, Willie, Arthur, and Dorsil Smith, and by a daughter in law, Annie Mae Richards Smith.

Elmer was a retired farmer and coal miner. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. A World War II Army Veteran, he served in the Burma Theater with Merrills Marauders. He faithfully attended several area churches, including Salem Baptist Church, Centerpoint Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, and Sunday School Superintendent, Old Emory Church, Nebo Church, Silver Memorial Baptist Church, and Centenary Church.

He is survived by five children, to which he was a loving, caring, and praying father, Michael, David, and Doug Smith all of Gallipolis, Sandra (Paul) Vergez of Colorado Springs, CO., and Sharon (Roger) Evans of Gallipolis. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Amy Beth Pearce of Gallipolis, Chris, Brian, and Laura Vergez of Colorado Springs, CO., Hubbell and Boeing Smith of Gallipolis, Makayland and Marshall Evans of Gallipolis. Three sisters, Ellen Simpson of Tennessee, Pearl Vinson of Buckhannon, WV. and Lena Maye of Zephyr Hills, FL. A sister in law, Martha Smith of Silver Springs, FL. And several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM. Thursday March 13, 2008 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home, with Pastor Charles Curry, Pastor Ishmael Smith, Pastor Phil Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Salem cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5-8 PM.

Military Funeral Honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the Gallia County Veterans Funeral Detail.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to either Salem Baptist Church, Holzer Cancer Center, or the Gallia County Senior Citizens Center.

Charles F. 'Red' Williams
1927 - 2008
Charles F. 'Red' WilliamsCharles Franklin Red Williams, age 80, of Gallipolis, died Tuesday March 4, 2008 at his residence. Born September 1, 1927 in Gallipolis, he was the son of the late Carl Williams and Ruth Williams Scott. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by a brother Alfred Williams.
Red was a World War II Army Veteran, having served in Guam and the Philippines. He retired from G&J Auto Parts after over 30 years of service. He was a member of Paint Creek Baptist Church. He was a member of and Past Master of Ancient York Lodge #33, and also of the Alla Baba Shrine. He had been bestowed the title of a 33rd degree Mason.

He is survived by:

Wife: Joann Williams who he married in 1945 in Gallipolis.

Sandra (Eddie) Kidd of Dayton
James (Jeannie) Williams of Bidwell
Ruth (Naamon) Person of Columbus
Dwayne Anthony (Michelle) Williams of Dayton

13 Grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren, and 5 Great Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Friday March 7, 2008 at the Paint Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Harry Scott officiating. Entombment will follow at Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home on Thursday from 6-9 PM.

Masonic Services will be conducted at 8:30 PM. Thursday at the funeral home by Ancient York Lodge #33.

Military Funeral Honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the Gallia County Veterans Funeral Detail.

Pallbearers will be: Jimmy Gilmore, Chris Howell, Donald Borden, Bill Armstrong, Dillard Sanders, and James Griffin.
