Richard Leroy Oxender
(1918 - 2008)

COLUMBUS - Richard Leroy Oxender, 89, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, at Columbus. Born Oct. 19, 1918, at Kunkle, to Mabel Elizabeth (Barrett) and Bert Lee Oxender, he married Hazel Marie Hollstein on Oct. 19, 1941, and she preceded him in death in 1998.
A long time resident of Williams County, he retired from National City Bank, served as clerk - treasurer of the North Central Local School District, owned and operated the gas station - hardware in Kunkle, and was employed by Sun Oil Company.
Surviving are a son, Richard Alan (and wife, Jeanette) of Columbus; two grandsons, Andrew and Braden Oxender of Columbus; a granddaughter, Jayna (and husband, Colin) Brosmer and two great-grandsons, Joseph and Max Brosmer of Toronto, Canada; a daughter, Carol Sue (Bob) Loghry of Fairfield Glade, Tenn.; grandson, Stephen (Carrie) Loghry and granddaughter, Kimberly (Doug) Cravens and great-granddaughters, Mallory, Abigail and Olivia Cravens, all of Algood, Tenn.; a brother, William Oxender of Bryan, and a sister, Helen Whitney - Newman of Lincoln Park, Mich.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Oxender.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 - 8 p.m. in the Thompson Funeral Home, Montpelier.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with interment in the Floral Grove cemetery, Pioneer.
Memorials may be made to the Home Reach Hospice, 3595 Olentangy River Rd., Columbus, OH 43214.

Frances A. "Francie" Lett
(1946 - 2008)

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Frances A. "Francie" Lett, 62, of Lexington and a former resident of Bryan, Ohio, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington after a brief illness.
Born Sept. 19, 1946, at Corinth, Miss., to Mary B. (Beatty) and Glenn D. Allen, she married Jeffrey D. Lett on April 2, 1969, at Bryan, and he survives.
A 1964 graduate of Bryan High School, she was graduated from Ohio State University in 1968 with a degree in political science.
She and her husband spent more than 20 years in Seattle, Wash., and four years in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, before moving to Lexington.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a sister, Barb (and husband, Ed) Lingvai of Bryan; three nieces; and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her stepmother, Margaret Allen.
A memorial service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Wesley United Methodist Church, Bryan, with Pastor Dwight Bowers to officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Fountain Grove cemetery, Bryan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Phyllis J. Hagelberger
(1930 - 2008)

Phyllis J. Hagelberger, 78, of Bryan, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, at the Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center, rural Defiance.
Born March 1, 1930, at Bryan, to Dorothy (Fisher - Rubel) and Harold Steele, she married Burton L. Hagelberger on April 14, 1946, and he preceded her in death.
Employed by Spangler Candy Company, she retired in 1974.
She was a member of First English Lutheran Church and the Bryan Women of the Moose.
Surviving are her sons, Philip (and wife, Val) of Bryan and Steve (Julie) Hagelberger of Dansville, Mich.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Don (Marguerite) Rubel of Bryan, James Rubel of Jacksonville, Fla., and Ned (Becky) Rubel of Adrian, Mich.; three sisters, Miriam (Max) Castor of Bryan, Lois (Ralph) Clarke of Bryan, and Sharon Newing of Toledo; and a sister - in - law, Juanita Rubel of Pioneer.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Gerald Rubel.
Visitation will be Friday from 2 - 4 and 5 - 8 p.m. in the Burr Funeral Home & Crematory, Bryan.
Private burial will take place at Fountain Grove cemetery at a later date.

Johnathon A. Wells
(1949 - 2008)

ANGOLA, Ind. - Johnathon A. Wells, 59, of Angola and a former Edon and Montpelier, Ohio area resident, died unexpectedly Thursday afternoon, Sept. 11, 2008, of an apparent heart attack while at work at Angola Wire Products, Inc., Angola.
Among his survivors are his father, George H. Wells of Montpelier; three sons, Scott P. (and wife, Tracy) Tibbits of Kunkle, Ohio, Floyd P. Wells and Christopher J. Wells, both of Bryan, Ohio; five grandchildren; two brothers, Brian (Sue) Wells of Flanagan, Ill., and Jeffery Wells of Montpelier; and a sister, Janie (and husband, Darwin 'Butch') Mocherman of Edon.
Funeral service arrangements are pending at Wilson - Geesey Funeral Home, Montpelier.

Gloria Rodriquez
(1951 - 2008)

ARCHBOLD - Gloria Rodriguez, 57, of Archbold, died Thursday afternoon, Sept. 11, 2008, at her residence.
Born Jan. 13, 1951, at Pigeon, Mich., she was the daughter of Juanita (Aguirre) and Jesus Gomez.
A resident of the Archbold area for about 30 years, she worked at Form Tool in Archbold.
She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Archbold.
Surviving is a son, Julian (Justin Ehrenberg) Rodriguez of Winsted, Conn.; a daughter, Angela (Sasha) Sklar of Los Angeles, Calif.; a granddaughter; her parents, Jesus and Juanita Gomez of Archbold; seven brothers, Arturo (and wife, Anita) Gomez of Mich., Ruben Gomez of Archbold, Jesus Gomez Jr. of Colorado, Santiago Gomez and Antonio (Laura) Gomez, both of Wauseon, Rene Gomez and Mario (Tonya) Gomez, both of Archbold; and two sisters, Cecelia Gomez and Alicia (Gabriel) Soto, both of Archbold.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
Visitation will be Sunday from 7 - 9 p.m. in the Short Funeral Home, Archbold.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Peter's Catholic Church with Father Gary Ferguson to officiate.

Emily Curtis
(1948 - 2008)

EDON - Emily L. Curtis, 59, of Edon, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, at her home after an extended illness.
Born Oct. 12, 1948, at Angola, Ind., to Eleanor A. (Knepper) and John D. Foster, she married Paul F. Curtis on May 27, 1978, at Edon, and he survives.
A graduate of Edon High School, she received a bachelor's degree in 1970 and a master's degree in 1972, both in music education from Miami University, Oxford.
The founding president of Tau Beta Sigma, the national band women's honorary sorority at Miami University, she was also the first female instrumental graduate assistant in a Division I school in the United States.
She was a music teacher for 31 years, 27 of those years at Edgerton Local Schools, Edgerton.
Named as the American Legion 2005 Teacher of the Year, she was the founder of Operation Support Our Troops (OSOT), sending supplies to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. She received many commendations from various military units and bases overseas.
She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Edon, where she served as organist and choir director for many years; American Legion Auxiliary, Edon, where she served as chaplain; and Ohio Music Educators Association.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Amanda Curtis of Iowa City, Iowa; a son, Capt. Jonathan (and wife, Shelli) Curtis, serving in the U.S. States Army in Fort Lewis, Wash.; her mother, Eleanor Foster; a brother, Bill (Susan) Foster, and a niece, Claire Foster, all of Edon. She was preceded in death by her father.
Visitation will be Sunday after 2 p.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edon.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Peter Lutheran Church, Edon, with Pastor Clayton Bailey to officiate. Interment will follow in Edon cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Emily Curtis Memorial Fund at Edon State Bank, Edon. Memorials will be used toward supporting the James Cancer Hospital in Columbus and military at home and abroad.

Shirley M. Lugbill
(1928 - 2008)

ARCHBOLD - Shirley M. Lugbill, 79, of Archbold, died early Thursday morning, Sept. 11, 2008, at Fulton Manor in Wauseon, following a lengthy illness.
Born Nov. 30, 1928, at Archbold, to Edith (Spengler) and Ervin H. Rupp, she married Charles E. Lugbill on Aug. 15, 1948, and he survives. A lifelong resident of the Archbold area, she was a homemaker.
She worked in the office at Lugbill Auction for more than 40 years and was a member of the Archbold Evangelical Mennonite Church, where she served as an organist for more than 50 years. She was a past member of the Board of Salem Children's Home at Flanagan, Ill.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two sons, Jerry (and wife, Sandra) Lugbill of Durres, Albania, and Tim (Carolyn) Lugbill of Fairfax, Va.; five grandchildren; and a brother, Dean (Maryann) Rupp of Archbold.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Susan; and an infant sister, Janice Rupp.
Visitation will be Saturday from 2:30 - 8 p.m. in the Fairlawn Chapel, Archbold.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in the Archbold Evangelical Mennonite Church with Pastors Brad Bame and Stuart Rex to officiate. Interment will precede in the Pettisville cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Archbold Evangelical Mennonite Church or to Miracle Camp at Lawton, Mich. The Short Funeral Home in Archbold is in charge of arrangements.

Ethelinda H. Schliesser
(1928 - 2008)

HICKSVILLE - Ethelinda H. Schliesser, 80, died Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at Hickory Creek at Hicksville.
Born May 4, 1928, at Huntington, Ind., to Susan (Ruppert) and Bernard A. Siebenaler, she married Basil Schliesser on Sept. 25, 1948, and he survives.
She had attended Huntington High School and was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Hicksville, where she was a member of the choir.
She was a school bus driver for more than 25 years for Hicksville Exempted Village Schools.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two sons, Bernard (and wife, Susan) of Bryan and Raymond (Vicky) of Seattle, Wash.; a daughter, Marian (and husband, Ted) Litzenberg of Woodburn, Ind.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, JoAnn Pranger of Michigan, Rita Roaloffs of Arizona and Sister Bernadine "Marcella" of Illinois; and a brother, Leonard (Anita) Siebenaler of Hicksville.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Julianna, and three brothers, Richard, Eldon and infant Bernard.
Visitation will be Friday from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. with a vigil service at 8 p.m. in the Smith & Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville.
Funeral mass will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Hicksville, with the Rev. Father Thomas Oedy to officiate. Burial will be at Lost Creek cemetery, Farmer.
Memorials may be made to Annunciation Monastery Poor Claires or Crippled Children & Adult Society.
