Homer H Hays
(1920 - 2008)

MONTPELIER - Homer H. Hays, 87, of Montpelier died Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at his home.
He was born Nov. 18, 1920, in Bridgewater Township to Mary E. (Boyer) and Lloyd W. Hays, and they preceded him in death.
A 1938 graduate of Pioneer High School, he graduated as class salutatorian. He was a World War II Army veteran, and was a prisoner of war from November 1944 to May 1945.
Surviving are a sister - in - law, Helen Hays of Montpelier; nieces Kay Barret of Rossford, Ohio, Linda Glaser of Indianapolis, Ind., Dorothy (and husband James) Goodwin of Panama City, Fla.; nephews Steve (Sandy) Hays of Montpelier, Robert (Gloria) Hays of Simpsonville, S.C., and Joseph (Jennifer) Hays of Montpelier; numerous great-nieces, great-nephews; and several great-great-nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were two brothers, James Hays and Eugene Hays.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home in Montpelier.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by interment at Riverside cemetery in Montpelier. Graveside military rites will be performed by Pioneer veterans.
Memorials may be made to the Williams County Veterans Memorial Building.

Howard L. Gambler
(1926 - 2008)

DEFIANCE - Howard L. Gambler, 82, of Defiance, died Thursday, April 10, 2008, at Brookview Healthcare Center, Defiance.
Born Jan. 12, 1926, at Alsip, Ill., to Maude (Cornell) and Jessiah Gambler, he married Sarabelle Ridenour on Nov. 27, 1950, and she survives.
A World War II Navy veteran, he had been a sandblaster at S/K Handtools and was formerly a union steward with International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 1356.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Defiance and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 3360 and Disabled American Veterans No. 36 in Defiance.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are four sons, Randy (and wife, Marlene) Gambler of Kentucky, Terry (Sharon) Gambler of Defiance, Lonnie (Lori) Gambler of Junction and Larry (Ashley) Gambler of Spiceland, Ind.; a daughter, Diane (and husband, Tom) Root of Bryan; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mabel Johnson of Bryan. He was preceded in death by two sons, Michael and Kelly Gambler; two daughters, Penny Gambler and Wendy Gambler - Smith; a grandson, Chad Gambler; five brothers, Frank, Ben, Herb, Walt and John Gambler; three sisters, Florence Little, Jean Bollinger and an infant; a half brother, Henry Nagel; and a half sister, Fern Mill.
Visitation will be Monday from 9 - 11 a.m. in the Mast - Mock - Hoffman - Hanenkrath - Clevenger - Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance.
Graveside services will be Monday at noon at Sherwood cemetery with the Rev. David Brandt to officiate. Military graveside rites are to be conducted by VFW No. 3360.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Larena Carpenter
(1921 - 2008)

CANANDAIGUA, Mich. - Larena Carpenter, 86, of Canandaigua, died Saturday, April 5, 2008, at home.
Born July 10, 1921, at Wauseon, Ohio, to Mabel (Wyse) and Pearly Pike, she married William Carpenter on Aug. 8, 1942, at Montpelier, Ohio, and he survives.
A homemaker living in Canandaigua since 1974, she attended the West Fulton Dunkard Brethren Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by four daughters, Carolyn Carpenter of Dallas Center, Iowa, Joan Wheeler of Morenci, Janice (and husband, Michael) Snedeker of Jackson and Florence "Jean" (James) Karabinus of Swanton, Ohio; four sons, Robert (and wife, Clarice) Carpenter of Peru, Ind., Ronold (Cynthia) Carpenter of Hudson, Richard Carpenter of Morenci and Denzel (Pamela) Carpenter of Morenci; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Faye Carpenter of West Unity, Ohio, Ruth Vaughan of Miami, Fla., and Donna Fike of Adrian; and three brothers, Lowell and Wayne Pike of West Unity, Ohio, and Delmer Pike of Wauseon, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three half sisters, Flora, Hazel and Bernice.
Visitation will be Sunday from 6 - 8 p.m. and Monday from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. in the Eagle Funeral Home - Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci.
Funeral service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the West Fulton Dunkard Brethren Church west of Wauseon on Alternate 20 with Brother Fred Johnson to officiate. Burial will follow at the Smith cemetery north of Pettisville, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Lenawee County.

May Bell Nolte
(1908 - 2008)

EDGERTON - May Bell Nolte, 99, died Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at Dream Haven Home in Edgerton.
Born May 3, 1908, in Trimble County, Ky., to Florence A. (Stafford) and John E. Bell, she married Wilfred "Bill" Nolte on Aug. 26, 1933, and he preceded her in death in October 1998.
She attended the one - room Norfolk school in Trimble County. Later, she and her family moved to Hanover, Ind. She and her classmates had the unique experience of both attending and graduating high school from Hanover College in 1927. She then attended and graduated from Indiana Business College in Indianapolis, Ind.
Moving to Hicksville in November 1945, she and her husband owned and operated Nolte - Thornburg Plumbing and Heating, Nolte Chick Hatchery and Nolte Mobile Home Park and Sales. In 1988 they moved to Edgerton.
She was a lifetime member of the Hicksville VFW Auxiliary.
Surviving are a son, George (and wife, Sylvia) Nolte of Bucyrus; a daughter, Mary (and husband, Neal) Schrimshaw of Bolingbrook, Ill.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a half sister, four half brothers and a brother at birth. Visitation will be Friday from 1 - 3 p.m. in the Smith & Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville.
Graveside services will follow at Maple Grove cemetery, Edgerton, with George Nolte to officiate.
Memorials may be made to Dream Haven LLC or a charity of the donor's choice.

Bernetha J. Posey
(1922 - 2008)

FOSTORIA - Bernetha J. Posey, 85, of Fostoria and formerly of Payne, died Wednesday morning, April 9, 2008, at St. Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria.
Born Dec. 10, 1922, at Bryan, to Ethel Mae (Kinneer) and Ernest Charles Hudkins, she married Earl B. Posey Sr. in 1941, and he preceded her in death in 2003.
A homemaker, she had been a clothes salesperson with Dutch Maid Inc. for 25 years and was the co - owner of Posey's Radio & TV Shop in Defiance, Toot - N - Tell Restaurant in Defiance and Pizza Palace in Defiance. She was a life member of the Defiance DAV Auxiliary.
Surviving are a son, Earl B. (and wife, Yvonne) Posey Jr. of San Antonio, Texas; daughters, Karen J. Mong of Walchuhula, Fla., Rose (and husband, Gary) Bennett of Payne, Cynthia Posey of West Millgrove and Linda (Michael) Dominique of Fayette; brothers, 'Ernest' Owen Hudkins of Castro Valley, Calif., and Charles E. (Lori) Hudkins of Fremont; sisters, Betty Mae (Butch) Higley of Bryan, Doris Eileen (Russ) Hinesley of Defiance, 'Ethel' DeAnn Karnes of Ney, Judy Marie (Bob) Lorentz of Bryan and Janet Ruth (Doug) McLean of Pelion, S.C.; 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Kathryn Frances Henderson, 'Bernetta' Jane Davis and Mary Louise Hudkins; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be Saturday from 9 - 11 a.m. in the Mast - Mock - Hoffman - Hanenkrath - Clevenger - Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Deb Berry to officiate. Burial will be at Evansport cemetery, County Road 150.

Liddie M. Watson
(1927 - 2008)

Liddie M. Watson, 80, of Rapid City, S.D., and formerly of Bryan, died Monday, April 7, 2008, at the Golden Living Center in Rapid City.
Born Dec. 8, 1927, at Akron, to Annie (Clark) and Leonard Hazelett, she married Henry H. Watson on March 31, 1945, in West Virginia, and he preceded her in death. A laborer, she had retired from the former Bryan Custom Plastics. She was a former member of the Bryan Moose and Eagles and had attended the New Life Temple in Bryan.
Survivors include daughters, Betty Raub of Bryan, Donna Miller of Guernsey, Wyoming, and Myra Franz of Piedmont, S.D.; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Kay Williamson of Montpelier and Lew Waterbury of Akron.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Glennis and Harold Watson; and a grandson.
Visitation will be Sunday from 1 - 2 p.m. in the Union Chapel Church of God. A memorial service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in the church with the Rev. Dennis Jones to officiate. Burial will take place in Fountain Grove cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to an organization of the donor's choice.

Ruth Short
(1912 - 2008)

ARCHBOLD - Ruth Short, 95, of Archbold, died early Wednesday morning, April 9, 2008, at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home, Archbold.
Born June 2, 1912, near Archbold, she was the daughter of Sarah (Rupp) and Aaron Short.
A lifelong resident of the Archbold area, she was a seamstress and worked as a clerk at the former Rufenacht's Haberdashery and Bill's Locker Room in Archbold for more than 60 years.
She was a member of Zion Mennonite Church and Fulton County Health Center Auxiliary, and was a volunteer in the dining room at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home.
Surviving are a sister, Marie Short of Archbold; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Dennis Short, Emmet Short and Earl Short; and two sisters, Inez Zaerr and infant Thelma Short.
Visitation will be Friday from 3 - 8 p.m. in the Fairlawn Chapel.
Memorial services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the Fairlawn Chapel with Pastor Mona Sauder to officiate. Interment will precede in the Pettisville cemetery at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Short Funeral Home, Archbold, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Fairlawn Haven or Zion Mennonite Church.

Roberta 'Bert' Ann Keller
(1931 - 2008)

MONTPELIER - Roberta Ann Keller, 76, of Montpelier, died Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers - Bryan.
Born Nov. 10, 1931, at Metz, Ind., she was the daughter of Lois M. (Goudy) and Wier A. Williams.
A resident of Williams County for most of her life, she retired from Mohawk Tool in Montpelier in 1991 after 23 years as a machine operator.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Surviving are four sons, Joe (and wife, Brenda) Keller of Edon, and Greg L. Keller, Jeff (Laura) Keller and Alan (Teresa) Keller, all of Montpelier; two daughters, Angelia R. Simpson and Shanon (and husband, Bill) Strauss, both of Montpelier; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; two sisters, Mary Mills of Lake City, Fla. and Esther Blansit of Fremont, Ind.; and a brother, Tom Williams of Metz, Ind.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Bob in 1992; four brothers, Don, Wendell, Roger and Wier Jr.; and two sisters, Io Kuhn and Alice Wilson.
Visitation will be Friday from 2 - 8 p.m. in the Thompson Funeral Home - Montpelier.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert W. Damschroder to officiate.
Interment will be at Metz cemetery, Metz, Ind.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.

Edward S. Horodecki

JACKSON, Mich. - Edward S. Horodecki, 52, died April 4, 2008, at Foote Hospital in Jackson after a brief illness.
While living in the Williams County area, he was assistant general manager of Midwest Stamping, Regent Plant in Edgerton, Ohio, before transferring to Defiance Metal Products in Greenwood, S.C.
His survivors include daughters, Christi (and husband, Bill) Etters and Meghan Horodecki of Greenwood, S.C., and son, Erick Horodecki of Bryan, Ohio.

Don Noel Conley

EDISTO ISLAND, S.C. - Don Noel Conley, 62, of Edisto Island and formerly of Edgerton, Ohio, died early Monday morning, April 7, 2008.
Surviving are his wife, Candace (Perry) Conley; two children, Chad (Amber Conrad) of Kendallville, Ind., and Candee (and husband, Randy) Young of Fostoria, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Danielle and Brandon Conley, and Braxton, Bryndon, Haleigh, Mikayla and Zavier Young; a brother, Bill (and wife, Joan) Donley of Columbus, Ohio; six brothers - in - law, Edward (Lori), Hugh (Jane), Lionel and Monte (Jackie) Perry, all of Edgerton, Tod (Ann) Perry of Hicksville, Ohio, and Maurice McClure of Van Wert, Ohio; six sisters - in - law, Angela Kennerk, Mary (Darrin) Jones, Beth (Jeff) Winzeler, Konnie Perry and Charlene Nye, all of Edgerton, and Jestine Schmitt of Charlotte, N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his in - laws, Wayne and Margene Perry; a sister, Marguerite McClure; a half brother, Dennie Donley; and three brothers - in - law, Stanley and Kevin Perry and Lary Schmitt.
A rosary service will be Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and a mass of Christian rites will be Sunday at 2 p.m. Arrangements are being handled by Stuhr Funeral Home - West Ashley, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, Charleston, SC 29414.
