James E. Meyer
(1937 - 2005)

DEFIANCE - James E. Meyer, 67, of Defiance, died Friday, April 22, 2005, at the Medical College of Ohio, Toledo.
Born Nov. 7, 1937, at Edgerton, to Margaret May (Miles) and George E. Meyer, he married Nancy Armbruster on Sept. 7, 1956, and she survives.
A U.S. Air Force veteran, he was branch manager at the Kiemle-Hankin Company. He was the former owner of Happy Humpty Restaurant and had worked at General Telephone Company, United Telephone/Sprint Telephone Company and Thomas & Betts Electrical Supply. He was also a sports caster for WONW and WZOM and was a job coach at Quadco.
A member of First Presbyterian Church where he was a past deacon, trustee and elder, he was also a member of B.P.O.E. No. 147 in Defiance and Greyhound Pets of America. He was a former member of Defiance Rotary, Defiance Jaycees, Defiance and Four County School Board and past president of both, Easter Seals/DASH, Defiance Band Boosters and the Kettering and Auglaize County Clubs. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. David (Michele) Wisner of Radner; a son, Michael Meyer of Defiance; four grandchildren; three brothers, Joe Meyer of Orlando, Fla., Bruce Meyer of Auburn, Ind. and Dennis Meyer of Antwerp; and two sisters, Mrs. Elwood (Norma) Grunden of Butler, Ind. and Mrs. Linda Elson of Montpelier.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 6-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-8 p.m. in the Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m., with one hour of visitation prior to the service, in the First Presbyterian Church, Defiance. The Rev. Thomas Steensma is to officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Defiance County, with graveside military rites to be performed by VFW Post 3360.
Memorials may be made to the Defiance City School Foundation or to Greyhound Pets of America.

Eldon L. Mocherman
(1923 - 2005)

NILES, Mich. - Eldon L. Mocherman, 82, of Niles, Mich., died early Thursday, April 21, 2005, at Lakeland Hospital-Saint Joseph, Saint Joseph, Mich., following a brief illness. Born Jan. 12, 1923, at Northwest Township, to Bessie (Grubs) and Glen Mocherman, he married Opal L. Marhanka on Oct. 17, 1942, at Montpelier, Ohio, and she preceded him in death on March 26, 1990.
A resident of Niles since 1987, coming from Hartford, Mich., he retired as vice president after 30 years at K&M Machine Fabrication in Cassopolis.
A member of Hartford United Methodist Church, he was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He had also worked for Pat Abiney Chrysler Dodge in Dowagiac, Mich.
In 1981, he received the Silver Knight Award from the National Management Association. In 1981, he served as president of the Cassopolis Chapter of N.M.A. and in 1985 he received the Gold Knight Award. He was a charter member of the Brandywine Lions Club and also served as past president and current president of Howard Township Lions Club as well as a past member of Lawrence, Mich. Lions Club. He was a past member of the Advisory Board for Southwester Michigan College, as well as a member of Ducks Unlimited.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Ed (Linda) Gourlay, Mrs. Roger (Marilyn) Cusick and Margaret 'Margi' Zache, all of Niles; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sisters, Dorothy Snyder and Mrs. James (Eleanor) Ruetz, both of Montpelier, Ohio.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 4-6 p.m. in the Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Niles.

Rosella L. Bostic
(1936 - 2005)

Rosella L. Bostic, 69, of Bryan, died Thursday morning, April 21, 2005, at the emergency room of Community Health and Wellness Centers, Bryan, after an illness of one month. Born Jan. 12, 1936, in Van Wert County, to Katherine (Waller) and Bernard Baxter, she married Clavel J. Bostic on Nov. 8, 1969, and he preceded her in death on June 16, 1992.
A press operator for Allied Moulded Products, Inc. for over 27 years, she retired in 1996. She was a member of Union Chapel Church of God, Bryan, where she served on the church council and was secretary of the Union Chapel's Women's Ministry.
Surviving are her two sons, Richard "Rich" (and wife, Sherry) Trubey of Bryan and Staff Sgt. Keith (Michelle) Trubey, U.S. Army of Bryan and currently serving in Iraq with the 983rd Engineering Battalion; a daughter, Marlene Hamrick of Bryan; a stepson, Clavel "Mickey" (Teresa) Bostic Jr. of Sunrise, Fla.; grandchildren, Christopher and MaKenzie Trubey, Lowell and Amanda Hamrick, Natasha, Hailey, Olivia, Tyler and Caleb Trubey; a sister, Mrs. Roger (Roberta) Holman of Hamilton, Ind.; three brothers, Kenneth (Irene) Baxter of Hamilton, Ind., Harold (Sharon) Baxter of Hamilton, Ind. and Cloyce (Shirley) Baxter of Mount Sterling, Ky.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister.
Funeral services are pending at this time upon return of Keith from Iraq and are to be published in Monday's edition. Arrangements are by Krill Funeral Home, Bryan.
Memorials may be made to Union Chapel Church of God or to the family.

Mildred I. Hand
(1924 - 2005)

FAYETTE - Mildred I. Hand, 81, of Fayette, died Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at Evergreen Manor in Montpelier.
Born March 10, 1924, in Fayette, to Edna Hazel (Winzeler) and Pearl L. Towne, she married Melvin L. Hand on April 21, 1945, at Salt Lake City, Utah, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 2002. A lifelong Fayette area resident, she was previously employed at Fayette Tubular.
Surviving are six sons, Larry (and wife, Brenda) Hand of Fayette, Melvin Hand Jr. of Fayette, Tony (Deb) Hand of Fayette, Mike (Debbie) Hand of West Unity, Ron (Petra) Hand of Germany and Don Hand of Fayette; 22 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Pauline Link of Morenci, Mich. and Velma Scott of Fayette.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Sharon Dietrich in 1998; two grandsons, Rhett Montgomery in 1982; and Mark Bates in 1997; two brothers, Don White and Lewis Towne; and two sisters, Faye Towne and Bea Ott.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. in the Eagle Funeral Home, Fayette. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Alden Porter to officiate. Interment will follow in Pleasant View Union Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Fayette American Legion Post No. 143.

Raymond "Barry" Vanover

MONTPELIER - Raymond "Barry" Vanover, 42, of  Louisiana and formerly of Montpelier, died Tuesday, April 19, 2005, in a Louisville hospital following liver transplant surgery. Surviving are his wife, Rhonda; a daughter, Rhea of  Louisiana; his father, John R. Vanover of Kentucky; his mother, Marlene Wilder of  Louisiana; four brothers, John H. (and wife, Teresa) Vanover of Montpelier, Anthony Vanover of Montpelier, George Wilder of  Louisiana and Gerald (Teresa) Wilder of  Louisiana; and four sisters, Sandy Orduna of  Louisiana, Mrs. Bill (Shandon) Moore of Paulding, Teresa Wilder of  Louisiana and Megan Sutton of Stryker.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Chris Vanover.
Funeral services and burial will be Friday in  Louisiana.

Lester J. Sanders
(1912 - 2005)

MIDDLETOWN - Lester J. Sanders, 92, of Turtlecreek Township, died April 17, 2005, at Otterbein-Lebanon Retirement Community.
Born Dec. 8, 1912, in Edgerton, he was the son of Anna D. (Miller) and George A. Sanders. The owner of the heating and air conditioning business L.J. Sanders & Son for 25 years, retiring in 1987, he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp and of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Surviving are two sons, Michael (and wife, Bernadette) Sanders of Middletown and Keith (Joanne) Sanders of Martinsville, Va.; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Vincent Sanders of Paulding and Wayne Sanders of Bryan; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Ellen (Lundy) Sanders in June 2002; his parents; a son, Alan Sanders in March 2002; and two sisters, Beulah Sanders and Juanita Schiffley.
Visitation will be held Saturday from noon to 1 p.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor David Moreland to officiate. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Edgerton.
Memorials may be sent to P.A.W.S. (Progressive Animal Welfare Society), 2790 Cincinnati-Dayton Rd., P.O. Box 684, Middletown, OH 45042.
Arrangements are by Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home.

Vicki L. Von Deylen
(1961 - 2005)

Vicki L. Von Deylen, 44, of Bryan, died Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at her residence.
Born April 1, 1961, at Defiance, to Mildred L. (Greer) and Joseph L. Ramey, she married Eugene Von Deylen on March 10, 1990, and he survives.
Employed at Sauder Woodworking for 19 years, she was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Stryker.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a stepson, Steve Von Deylen of Bryan; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Rich (Laura) Pollick of Hicksville; three brothers, the Rev. Ted Ramey of Sherwood, Bob Ramey of Napoleon and Sam Ramey of Sherwood; two sisters, Mrs. Les (Mary) Smith of Napoleon and Mrs. Robert (Brenda) Richardson of Memphis, Tenn.; her mother-in-law, Dorothea Von Deylen of Stryker; and four godchildren, Greg Hall, Seth Ramey, Shane Ramey and Sabrina Ramey.
Preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters, Gwynna Jo and Teresa Jean Ramey; and her father-in-law, Elmer Von Deylen.
Visitation will be held Friday from 1-5 p.m. in the Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home, Defiance. Funeral services will be held Friday at 5 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Dale Kern to officiate. Memorials in her name may be of the donor's choice.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
