Donald E. Weilnau

Donald E. Weilnau, age 68, of Norwalk, died Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at Firelands Regional Medical Center’s Main Campus in Sandusky.
He was born March 19, 1936 in Milan, Ohio, and was a 1954 graduate of Milan High School. He served in the US Army as a General’s Honor Guard, and was a lifetime member of the Milan American Legion Post 527.
He retired from the Ohio Turnpike Commission after many years of service. Mr. Weilnau was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed watching all sporting events. He was a member of the Corvette Club and the Toledo Zoo.
He is survived by his daughters and sons - in - law, Dawn and Mark Mankin of Avon, Wendy and Andrew MacDonald of Berlin Heights, and Hope and Timothy Barker of Milan; fiancé, Jeanette Robinson of Norwalk; nine grandchildren and a great-grandson; 1st wife, JoAnn Sexton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William C. and Catherine (Kramb) Weilnau.
Friends may call from 3 - 5 and 7 - 9 P.M. Friday at the Evans & Groff Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street in Norwalk and 10:00 AM Saturday until time of service at 11:00 AM at St. John United Church of Christ, 2712 Mason Road, Oxford Township. The Rev. Edgar Shelly will officiate. A military graveside service will be conducted at the church cemetery, followed by a reception for family and friends.
Memorial contributions, if desired, may be sent to the Edison High School Athletic Boosters, 2603 S.R. 113 East, Milan, OH 44846 or Or St. John United Church of Christ, 2712 Mason Road, Milan, OH 44846.

Lawrence Dean Champion

Lawrence Dean Champion, 51, of Delta passed away late Friday April 11, 2003 at St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo. He Worked for Triangular Recycling in Delta.
Mr. Champion was born on August 28, 1951 in Wauseon, Ohio to Ray and Ethel (Pike) Champion. He was a member of the Pettisville Missionary Church. Surviving is one sister; Mary (Bill) Grimsley of Swanton, three nieces and many friends. Preceding him in death were his parents and one infant sister; Pamela.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Tuesday April15, 2003 at the Grisier Funeral Home in Delta with Pastor Charles Kauffman officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasent cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home in Delta from 6:00 - 8:00pm on Monday. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to either the Pettisville Family Care Home or Life Flight.

Haskell Earl Spires

Haskell Earl Spires, 86, of Delta passed away early Thursday April 10, 2003 at the Swanton Health Care and Retirement Center.
Haskell was born on June 27, 1916 in Illinois to Claude and Ola Lena (Cooper) Spires. In 1938 he married Stella Rosinski and she preceded him in death in 2002. He owned the Surity Insurance Agency in Delta for many years. Haskell and Stella also owned and operated the Ketch - a - Bite Restaurant in Delta until 1960 when they closed the business for a few years opening it back up in 1970 as the Ketch - a - Bite Restaurant and Carry - Out, the first Carry - Out in Delta. Haskell and Stella retired from the Carry - Out and moved to Vero Beach, FL until Haskell move back to Delta about a year ago.
Haskell is survived by one son; Terry (Diane) Spires of Lee, New Hampshire, one daughter; Christina (Jim) Mohr of Delta, seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, thee brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00am Monday April 14, 2003 at the Grisier Funeral Home in Delta with Fr. Fred Snyder officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6:00 - 8:00pm on Sunday. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Fulton.

Thomas Allen Veres

Thomas Allen Veres, 48, of Napoleon died Wednesday April 16, 2003 at the Fulton County Health Center in Wauseon.
Mr. Veres was born in Toledo on February 10, 1955 to Charels J. and Edith M. (Seal) Veres. On April 15, 1990 he married Evelyn Jewell Baker and she survives. He was a member of the Napoleon Eagles and a past member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #320 in Maumee.
Surviving besides his wife, Jewell are two step-daughters; Rebecca J. Salo of Harrison Twp., MI, Charlotte Powers of Defiance, three brothers; Michael and Mark both of Toledo and Terry of Defiance. Also surviving is one sister; Lori Mapes of Cookeville, TN. Preceding him in death were his parents.
Funeral services will be held at the Grisier Funeral Home in Delta at 1:00pm Saturday April 19, 2003 with Pastor George Goins officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Lawn cemetery - Napoleon. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00am until service time on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the family's choice.

Evelyn Krontz

Evelyn Krontz, 81, died at the Akron Medical Center April 14, 2003. Formerly of Wauseon and the Cole Street Apartments, Evelyn recently moved to Akron to be with one of her daughters during her most recent illness. Evelyn was born January 19, 1922 in Canton, Ohio to David C. and Mary Jane (Bowen) Wilson and they have preceded her in death. Evelyn was known for her cooking and operated the Ketch A Bite restaurant on Main Street in Delta for many years. Evelyn was a member of the First Christian Church, enjoyed traveling across the country during her retirement years and was an active member at the Fulton County Senior Center. Evelyn was married to the late George Demlow and subsequently to the late Earl Krontz. .
Besides her parents and husbands Evelyn was preceded in death by a daughter Beverly Jo Demlow, 3 sisters, 2 brothers and 2 half bothers. She is survived by son Thomas (Nikkie) Demlow of Orville, Ohio; Daughters M. Ann (Barry) Brigham of Wauseon; Susan R. (David) Burres of Toledo, Ohio and Deborah L. (Jesus) Martinez of Akron. Evelyn is also survived by sisters Kathryn (Kenneth) Grimm, Marion Kimble of Canton, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Friday at 11:00 AM at the Edgar and Grisier Funeral Home in Wauseon with Reverend Keith Oditt Officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenlawn cemetery, Delta. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 2:00 - 5:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 PM.. In remembering Evelyn the family has asked the memorial contributions be made to the First Christian Church, Disciples, Wauseon.

Sharon Betkey

Sharon Betkey, 69, of Laurelville, Ohio, and formerly of Wauseon, died Sunday, April 13, 2003 in her home. She had been a bus driver for the Fulton County Board of M.R.D.D. as well as the Pike - Delta - York school system.
Mrs. Betkey was born in Holland, Ohio on Aug. 25, 1939 to Vernon and Lova (Dodge) Lee. On May 3, 1957 she married Jerry Betkey, and he survives. Also surviving are three daughters Debra Nichols of Broadway, Ohio, Nora May of Delta, Pam (Robert) Miller of Jefferson City, TN; one son Jerry (Julie) Betkey, Jr. of Hudson, MI; her mother Lova Cooper of Toledo; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers Ron (Sharon) Lee of Black Canyon City, AZ, Dick Lee of Glendale, AZ, Casey (Becky) Lee of Livingston, TX; and two sisters Darlene (Ken) Seiling of Toledo, and Susan Rizza of Sylvania.
Funeral services will be private. Friends may call at the Edgar - Grisier Funeral Home in Wauseon on Wednesday, April 16, 2003 from 5 - 8 P.M. Burial will be in the Winameg cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Adena Hospice of Chillicothe, Ohio, or the charity of the donor's choice.

Arlene L. Calaway

Arlene L. Calaway, 77, of Delta passed away early Sunday August 3, 2003 at Fulton Manor in Wauseon. Mrs. Calaway owned and operated Calaway Flowers in Delta for many years.
Mrs. Calaway was born on September 30, 1925 in Fulton County to Forest and Irene (Mohler) Spiess. On October 6, 1946 she married Charles Calaway and he preceded her in death. She was a member of the Delta United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, Delta Chamber of Commerce, Fulton County Board of Elections and the Friends of the Library.
Surviving are three daughters; Connie Koppenhofer, Kathy Jo Clark both of Delta, Karen (Dennis) Burkholder of Wauseon, one brother Vainard Spiess of Delta and one sister - in - law; Dorothy Spiess of Delta. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; Steve (Michelle) Koppenhofer, Kam Koppenhofer, Kara Koppenhofer, Jarrod (Danielle) Clark, Brittani (Dave) Gerken, Brandon Burkholder, Blake Burkholder, Brock Burkholder and one great-grandson; Connor Clark. Preceding her in death besides her husband, Charles was one son; Steven Calaway one brother; Harold Spiess and one son - in - law, Gary Koppenhofer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30am Friday August 8, 2003 at the Delta United Methodist Church with the Rev. Karen Crawford and Rev. Eric Markovich officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenlawn cemetery. Friends may call at the Delta United Methodist Church from 2:00 - 9:00pm on Thursday. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Hospice of Fulton County, the Delta United Methodist Church, of the Trinity Lutheran Church - Delta. The Grisier Funeral Home in Delta is in charge of arrangements.

William F. Abbott

William F. Abbott, 80 of Delta died Sunday August 3, 2003 in Delta. He was born on June 9, 1923 in Bowling Green to Fred and Ruth (Carpenter) Abbott. He married Alice Mae McQuillin in Delta on January 24, 1954 and she survives. He had owned the Abbott Trucking Co. for over 40 years and the ABC Painting Co. for the last ten years. He was an Army Air Force veteran of WWII, 50 year member Delta American Legion, member of Elks Lodge, Certified Pilot, and enjoyed Competitive Ballroom Dancing.
Surviving besides his wife Alice are two sons; Fred (Anita) Abbott, DePere, Wisc., Chuck (Deb) Abbott, Delta, two daughters; Mrs. Corinne (Rod) Gage, Delta, Mrs. Christine (Don) Radebaugh, Sylvania, 10 grandchildren, Ammon and Tara Gage, Bill, Doug, and Lisa Abbott, Emily, and Carly Radebaugh, Tiffany Todd, Chas Abbott, and Mandy Leitner, two great grandchildren, Dylan and Morgan Todd, one sister, Mrs. Jean (Louie) Brasiola, Delta.
Funeral services will be held in the Delta American Legion Post Hall at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 7, 2003 with Pastor Karen Crawford officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn cemetery with military services. Friends may call at the American Legion Hall on Wednesday from 2 - 5 and 7 - 9 PM. Preferred memorials are to the Delta American Legion. Services are being conducted by the Grisier Funeral Home, Delta.

Florence M. Planson

Florence M. Planson, 76, of Stryker, died Thursday morning, July 31, 2003 in her home. Mrs. Planson was born in Defiance on June 27, 1927 to John M. and Mabel M. (Miller) Markley. On July 16, 1947 she married Clarence "Boots" Planson, and he survives.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Stryker and was a past member of the Stryker Womens Club, and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Bryan.
Surviving besides her husband, are two sons, Terry (Kathy) Planson of Stryker, Steve (Connie) Planson of Stryker; step-son Joe (Peg) Planson of Birmingham, AL; step-daughter Tammy (Rob) Lamle of Cicero, IN; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister Lois Lloyd of Defiance. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother Harold Markley; and three sisters Doris Markley, Ima Keller, and Katie Carlisle.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 2, 2003 at the Grisier Funeral Home in Stryker, with Pastor Melvin Peter, officiating. Entombment will follow at Riverview Memory Gardens near Defiance. Friends may call at the Grisier Funeral Home in Stryker on Friday from 2 - 5 and 7 - 9 P.M. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Stryker United Methodist Church or Hospice of Williams and Fulton Counties.
