Ralph H. Krieger, Jr.
(Died February 11, 2013)
U.S. Veteran

Ralph H. Krieger, Jr., age 88, of Delta, Ohio, passed from this life on Monday, February 11, 2013 at the Swanton Health Care and Retirement Center, with his family at his side.

Ralph was born on December 10, 1924 to Ralph H., Sr. and Margaret (Andrew - Britegam) Krieger at Swanton, Ohio. On September 20, 1947 he married Leona M. Vincent, who preceded him to glory on January 6, 2001. To that union were born five children – sons, Donald (Nancy) of Wauseon and Robert (Jean) of Remus, MI, daughters, Sharlene (Ken) Honegger of Bluffton, IN Nita (Mike) Krueger of Liberty Center, OH and Nadine (John) Herring of Wauseon. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren, sister, Bernadine Overmyer and special friend, Donna Mae Schaffner.

Ralph had been a milk hauler for the former Pet Milk Co. in Delta and the former Babcock Dairy in Toledo until 1975. He then became the Transportation Supervisor for Pike - Delta - York Schools, retiring in 1986. Ralph had also served on the Delta Police Department. In retirement he operated a small dump truck business and continued the family farm. He was a World War II Veteran and a member of Crossroads Evangelical Church in Wauseon.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 in the Chapel at Crossroads Evangelical Church. A Celebration of Ralph’s Life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday in the Chapel at Crossroads Evangelical Church., with Pastor Tyler Quillett, officiating. Interment will be held prior to the service at Dutch Ridge cemetery, near Delta at 9:30 A.M. on Thursday. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Crossroads Evangelical Church, Odyssey Hospice, or a charity of the donor’s choice. Edgar - Grisier Funeral Home in Wauseon has been entrusted with arrangements.

Jack C. Planson
(Died February 11, 2013)

Jack C. Planson, age 54, of Stryker, passed away Monday, February 11, 2013 at Defiance Area Hospice. He had worked at Sauder Woodworking in Archbold for the past 33 years.

Jack was born in Montpelier on April 15, 1958, the son of Russell and Phyllis (Chandler) Planson. Surviving are sister and brother - in - law, Penny and Peter Gentit of Stryker, sister and brother - in - law, Paula and Dean Gentit of Sherwood; nieces, Dawn (Ray) Meiers, Beth (Tim) Morr, Lisa Gentit, Kathy Cada, and Sarah Schlosser; nephews, Michael (Serena) Schlosser, Chris (Kim) Gentit and Ben Gentit; three great-nieces, Madison and Skyler Gentit and Kennedy Morr; and two great-nephews, Jacob and William Meiers. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Nancy Schlosser.

It was Jack’s wishes not to have any visitation or funeral services. The family is honoring his request. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Hospice of Williams and Fulton Counties, Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice or the charity of the donor’s choice. Grisier Funeral Home in Stryker has been entrusted with arrangements.

Barbara A. Jacquot
(Died February 21, 2013)

Barbara A. Jacquot, age 71, of Wauseon, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at the Fulton County Health Center in Wauseon.

Barbara was born in Wauseon on October 17, 1941, the daughter of Jacob and Evelyn (Bradley) Brill. She was preceded in death by both parents; formers husbands, Richard Jacquot, Jack Pallister, and Richard Mohr; sister, Sandy Shepard; brother, Roger Brill, and daughter, Charity Poulson. She is survived by her daughters; Leah Feller of Colorado, Daneen (Frank) Donnett of Wauseon, Nadine (Randy) Cashen of Illinois, Heather (Les) Rice of Liberty Center, Heidi Mohr of Arizona, Misty Pallister of Wauseon; son, Jack Poulson of Wauseon; and brother, Robert Brill of Arizona. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family was the most important thing to her and she was loved by many. She will be missed.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. on Monday, February 25, 2013 at the Edgar - Grisier Funeral Home in Wauseon. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday at the Wauseon Union cemetery, with Pastor Don Krieger, officiating. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

Harvey J. Barth
(Died February 22, 2013)

Harvey J. Barth, age 85, of Wauseon, passed away Friday evening, February 22, 2013, at Heartland of Wauseon. Prior to his retirement he had worked at Champion Spark Plug in Toledo for over 35 years.

Harvey was born in Lyons, Ohio on July 17, 1927, the son of Carl and Maida (Davis) Barth. On August 13, 1948 he married Dolores Carpenter, and she survives. He was a member of the First Church of God in Wauseon. Harvey was also a U.S. Army Veteran.

Surviving is his wife, Dolores; two daughters, Barbara Barth and Karon Barth, both of Wauseon; three sons, Ron (Billie) Barth of Montpelier, Gary (Connie) Barth of Hope Mills, NC, David (Stacey) Barth of Sterling, NE; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Lola Zeremba of Traverse City, MI; and two brothers, Harold (Dolores) Barth of Adrian, MI and Dick (Phyllis) Barth of Cleveland. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Allen Barth; one granddaughter, Jessica Barth; and one sister, Flossie Mossing.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 Noon on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at the First Church of God in Wauseon. A Memorial Service will follow the visitation at 12:00 Noon, at the church, with Pastor Paul Flores, officiating. Interment will be in the Lyons cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the First Church of God or Heartland Hospice. Edgar - Grisier Funeral Home in Wauseon has been entrusted with arrangements.

Phyllis A. (Wynkoop) Colgan
(July 23, 1933 - March 4, 2013)

Phyllis A. (Wynkoop) Colgan, age 79, of rural Archbold passed away early Monday morning March 4, 2013 in the CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. She was born July 23, 1933 in Branch County, Michigan to the late Emmett P. Wynkoop and Eva (Ramus) Wynkoop. She married John M. Colgan on June 19, 1967 and he preceded her in death on December 10, 2002. Prior to her retirement she was employed by the former LaChoy Foods and Con - Agra in Archbold. She attended Hope Christian Fellowship Church, Wauseon, Ohio.

Survivors: step-son, Larry (Sandy) Colgan, Defiance, Ohio. Son - in - law, James Slight, Hicksville. step-grandchildren, Pamela Slight, Hicksville, Ohio, Mark Slight, Hicksville, Ohio, Scott Slight, Antwerp, Ohio, Troy Colgan, Defiance, Ohio.

step-great-grandchildren, Ben Zurbrugg and Amber Headley, both of Chino Hills, California, Elizabeth Colgan, Stryker, Ohio, Alex Wade, Defiance, Ohio.

Nieces, Esther Shaw, Coeburn, Virginia, Joan Kiefer, Roanoke, Indiana, Jennifer (Wynkoop) McNally, Huntington, Indiana.

Nephew, David Wynkoop, Huntington, Indiana.

Numerous nieces and nephews, all of Michigan.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers and sisters, Maud, Robert, Richard, Minnie, twins Max and Maxine, Ruth, Marie, and Gilbert.

Public funeral service and interment, 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 14, 2013 in Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, 6750 Covington Road, Ft. Wayne, Indiana 46804.

Pastor Donna Stutzman officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of donor's choice.

Leo R. Walters
(Died March 5, 2013)
U.S. Veteran

Leo R. Walters, age 86, of Defiance, passed away in his home on Tuesday, March 5, 2013. Leo was a retired pharmacist, having worked for the former Peck’s Drug Store and then Revco for 25 years.

Leo was born in August 6, 1926 in Wyandotte, Michigan, the son of Lester and Lenabelle (Lowe) Walters. On November 11, 1961 he married Darlene Rowan, and she survives. He had attended Wayne State, the University of Michigan and Toledo University where he graduated in the pharmacy school in an accelerated program in just three years. Leo was an Army Air Force Veteran of WWII, serving as an aircraft mechanic in Germany. He enjoyed fishing, bird watching, traveling woodworking and gardening, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.

Surviving, besides his wife, Darlene, are six daughters, Robin Hanker of Defiance, Rita (Bill) Cordes of Napoleon, Regina Walters of Evansport, Rhonda (Sam) Lehman of Defiance, Renee (Steve) Mack of Metamora, Rebecca (Chris) Schlegel of Defiance; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four brothers, Harvey Walters of Hudson, MI, Wayne Walters of Blissfield, MI, Dale Walters of Michigan, Jim Walters of Blissfield, MI; three sisters, Belva Stewart of Hudson, MI, Rachael Albright of Adrian, MI, and Janice Hillard of Chelmfords, MA. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Zelma Adams and one brother, J.C. Walters.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Friday, March 8, 2013 at the Evansport United Methodist Church, where the funeral will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 10:30 A.M., with the Rev. Becky Ploughe, officiating. Interment will follow in the Evansport cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Evansport United Methodist Church or Defiance Area Hospice. Grisier Funeral Home in Stryker has been entrusted with arrangements.

Joyce Marie Garvin
(July 28, 1924 - March 7, 2013)

Joyce Marie Garvin, age 88, of Wauseon, passed away Thursday, March 07, 2013 in Fulton County Health Center, Wauseon. She was born July 28, 1924 in Maumee, Ohio to the late Bernard and Marie (Aigrisse) Ramlow. She married Richard A. Garvin and he precedes her in death. Joyce was a retired employee of Globe - Weiss with 18 years of service. She attended Bethany Baptist Church, rural Grand Rapids, Ohio.

Survivors: Children, Daniel (Barb) Garvin, Atlanta, Ga., Jack (Kathy) Garvin, Wauseon, Marie Garvin, Waterville, Robin Garvin, South Carolina.

Grandchildren, Bailey Garvin, Greta Garvin, Thomas (Jenny) Garvin, Jr., Joshua Garvin, James (Dusty) Garvin, Brandy (Dave) Walker, Tanya Duby, Jacob Garvin, Sarah Garvin.

great-grandchildren, Leah, Kylie, Alex, Kale, Shelby, Kyle.

Joyce is preceded in death by, her parents, husband, sons, Thomas and Timothy Garvin. Sister, Bernice McIntyre and brother, Richard Ramlow.

Funeral service 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 11, 2013, in Edgar - Grisier Funeral Home, Wauseon. Pastor Tim Coley officiating. Interment will follow in Wauseon Union cemetery. A luncheon will follow the cemetery services in Bethany Baptist Church, rural Grand Rapids, Ohio.

Friends may call 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. Sunday in the Edgar - Grisier Funeral Home, Wauseon, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to the charities of family preference.

Esther Andre
(December 9, 1919 - March 8, 2013)

A life - long resident of Fulton County, Esther Andre, 93, was born north of Wauseon, only a half mile from where she raised her family. She attended a one room school for the first eight grades and then graduated from Wauseon High School. After studying at B.G.S.U. for a couple of years, Esther was a classroom teacher at Lyons, Archbold, and Wauseon for ten years. Most recently she made her home with the staff and residents of Fairlawn Haven of Archbold, Ohio and died peacefully in her sleep on March 8, 2013.

Born on December 9, 1919, daughter of Carey and Minnie (Herrmann) Lee, she married Norris Andre on December 23, 1945. He preceded her in death.

Esther & Norris Andre were married after he returned from World War II. She then took time to raise a family of four boys, Lee, Keith, Paul and Nathan, cared for her mother, and farmed along side of her husband. She was a very busy person who during this time also worked as a substitute teacher in county schools, a teacher in migrant camps, and as a bedside teacher for students who were housebound. Balancing family, farm & friends, she completed her B.S. degree at Defiance College and soon after began her 15 year career teaching music in the Pike - Delta - York Elementary Schools.

A devout member of North Dover United Methodist Church, she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, participated in Lady’s Aid and ran her own cassette tape ministry for the shut - ins.

She filled leadership roles in Fulton Co. Farm Bureau, the Culinary Department of the Fulton County Fair and enjoyed fellowship in the Wauseon Women’s Club. Upon retirement, her full - time job, in addition to caring for grandchildren, became her volunteer work at Fulton County Health Center, Sauder’s Museum, and Elm Street Elementary.

Left to cherish her memory are sons, Lee (Donna) of Tecumseh, Michigan, Keith (Brenda) of Celina, Texas, Paul (Debbie) and Nathan (Trish) of Wauseon and thirteen grandchildren, Monique, Carrie, Philip, Benjamin, Shannon, Megan, Adam, David, Mark, Tim, Perry, Kira, and Ross. Esther was blessed with fourteen great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister, and brother Robert.

Her extreme enthusiasm for teaching, genealogy, gardening, stamp collecting, cooking, baking, and running errands was a tribute to her passion for an active life. In her own words, Esther recently declared, “I’m a positive person!”

Friends may call from in Edgar and Grisier Funeral Home, Wauseon, Thursday, March 14 from 2:00 - 8:00pm. Following a private graveside service on Friday, March 15, an 11:00a.m. Memorial service will be held at North Dover United Methodist Church with Pastors Don Krieger and Thomas Vito Aiuto officiating. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff at Fairlawn Haven who loved and cared for Esther these past few years.

Those wishing to show sympathy are asked to consider contributions to North Dover United Methodist Church or Hands of Grace Interfaith.
