Robert Pettit
(1925 - 2006)

MONTPELIER - Robert Pettit, 80, of Montpelier, died unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006, at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers - Montpelier, due to natural causes. Born Dec. 7, 1925, at Union, Mich., to Sarah (Hatch) and Sticker Pettit, he married Helen B. Heffner on Sept. 27, 1947, at Nappanee, Ind., and she survives.
A Montpelier resident since 1973, he had previously lived in Edwardsburg, Mich.
A cable splicer and lineman for GTE for 43 years, working in Bryan and Elkhart, Ind., he retired in 1990.
Mr. Pettit served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Robert D. Pettit of Edwardsburg, Mich.; a sister, Arilla Glassburn of South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and five sisters.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 - 8 p.m. in the Farrand Funeral Home, White Pigeon, Mich.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Ronna Swartz, pastor of the White Pigeon United Methodist Church, to officiate. Burial will be in Peek cemetery, Florence Township, Mich.

Ted A. Smith
(1921 - 2006)

HAMILTON, Ind. - Ted A. Smith, 85, of Hamilton and formerly of Edon, Ohio, died Sunday morning, Oct. 22, 2006, at the Dilworth Center of Community Hospitals and Wellness Center - Montpelier, following a one - month illness.
Born July 26, 1921, at Williams Center, Ohio, to Regent (Lane) and Loren Smith, he married Eileen M. Siebenaler on May 6, 1944, at Blakeslee, Ohio, and she survives.
A 1940 graduate of West Unity, Ohio, High School, where he lettered in track, baseball and basketball, he served in the Naval Air Corps as a blimp pilot during World War II.
He was a self - employed farmer and also worked at Edon Machine until his retirement in 1986 with over 20 years of service.
A member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Blakeslee, the Knights of Columbus, Edon American Legion Post No. 662 and Hamilton Fish and Game, he played on the traveling baseball team for Blakeslee and was also a little league coach and 4 - H advisor in Blakeslee for many years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Gary (and wife, Kathy) Smith of Delroy, Ohio, Alan (Mary Lynn) Smith of Alexandria, Va., Dana (Linda) Smith of Auburn, Ill. and Lynn (Karen) Smith of Franklin, Tenn.; two daughters, Mrs. Ed (Janet) Morr of Edon and Mrs. Perry (Maryann) Asuncion of Fort Wayne; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a great-grandchild, Elliott Biehl; two brothers, Lane and Warren Smith; and a sister, Marybel McMaster.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. with a recitation of the rosary at 8 p.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edon.
Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m., in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Blakeslee, with Father Stephen Schroeder and Father Frederick Duschl to officiate. Interment will follow in St. Joseph cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by Edon American Legion Post No. 662.
Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church Renovation Fund.

Daniel B. Wink
(1945 - 2006)

DEFIANCE - Daniel B. Wink, 61, of Defiance, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006. Born June 12, 1945, at Defiance, to Connie (Blake) and Dale Wink, he married Connie Ball in 1969, and she survives.
An Army veteran, having served in Vietnam, he had retired as an electrician at GM Powertrain. He was a member of the NRA.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Daniel (and wife, Jennifer) Wink of Defiance; one grandchild; four brothers, Charles Wink of Missouri, Andrew (Joan) Grahn of Holgate, David (Betsy) Grahn of Napoleon and James Grahn of Stryker; and a sister, Mrs. Larry (Denise) Sullivan of Stryker.
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Ernest Grahn.
Visitation will be Thursday from 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. in the Mast - Mock - Hoffman Funeral Home. Services will be Thursday at 7:30 p.m. with the Rev. Tim Hacker to officiate.
Memorials may be made to the Defiance County Humane Society or a charity of the donor's choice.

Alexandrine R. "Alex" Haskins
(1915 - 2006)

COLDWATER, Mich. - Alexandrine R. "Alex" Haskins, 91, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2006, at Evergreen Manor Nursing Home, Montpelier, Ohio.
Born Feb. 14, 1915, at Aurora, Ill., she was the daughter of Theophila (Szwenk) and Anthony Rzepka.
A graduate of St. Charles High School in Coldwater, she was a homemaker and attended St. Charles Catholic Church in Coldwater.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Albert (Minerva Jane) Kwader of Pioneer, Ohio; a son - in - law, Larry Harmon of Monroe; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Rzepka of Bronson, and William Rzepka of Coldwater; and two sisters, Carolyn Nealy of Coldwater and Gloria LaMonte of Mission Viego, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Rosemary Harmon in December of 2004; a brother, Stanley Rzepka; and a sister, Mary Jane Kwasniewski.
Visitation will be Saturday from 1 - 2 p.m. in the Gillespie Funeral Home, Coldwater.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with Father Brian Stanley to officiate. Interment will be in Oak Grove cemetery, Coldwater.
Thompson Funeral Home - Pioneer is in charge of local arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Evergreen Manor Nursing Home Activity Fund.

Mitchel D. Onstott
(1944 - 2006)

Mitchel D. Onstott, 62, of Bryan, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2006, at his residence.
Born July 16, 1944, at Hicksville, he was the son of Evelyn D. (Miller) and Harvey H. Onstott. After attending Hicksville High School, he began his working career as a lineman with the former Wabash Railroad. He also worked for several years as an iron worker.
Surviving are two sons, Mitchel H. Onstott - Hartsock of Montpelier and Michael W. Onstott - Hartsock of West Unity; four grandchildren, Kruz Harrington, Teariegh and Keagen Hartsock and TaSondra Harrington; two sisters, Judy A. Bowers of Bryan and Dennie Jo Yates of Denver, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Charles W. Onstott; and a sister, Sharon L. Peters.
Visitation will be Thursday from 2 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 7 p.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, Bryan.
Memorials may be made to the family.

Vearl E. Tracht
(1921 - 2006)

SANDUSKY - Vearl E. Tracht, 85, of Sandusky, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006, at the Stein Hospice Care Center after a lengthy illness.
Born May 2, 1921, at Farmer, to Dora (Buda) and John Wilcox, she married Ned E. Tracht in 1947 and he preceded her in death.
She and her husband owned and operated Ned's Inc. and Safety Services Inc. and she served as secretary of both companies.
A member of the First Presbyterian Church of Huron and the Eastern Star, she belonged to various golf and bowling leagues.
Surviving are sons, Robert L. (and wife, Joan) and William N. (Alverna) of Huron; daughters, Lois A. Eggleston of Grove City and Mrs. Ken (Deb) DeChant of Milan; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia Mowery of Fort Wayne, Ind.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded by a sister, Gloris Rosenberry.
A memorial service will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the Smith & Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville, with Kenneth DeChant III to officiate.

Edna Irene Phillips
(1918 - 2006)

Edna Irene Phillips, 87, of Bryan, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006, at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers, Bryan.
Born Dec. 31, 1918, at Bryan, to Elsie Mae (Byers) and Arthur R. Smith, she married Max Phillips on Sept. 28, 1940, and he preceded her in death.
A dietary technician for Bryan hospital (Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers), she was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and Shamrock Circle.
Surviving are a son, Michael (and wife, Suzanne) Phillips of Bloomington, Ind.; two daughters, Marcia West of Elyria and Mrs. Mike (Mary) LaMantia of Bryan; a sister, Beulah Wineland of Bryan; a son - in - law, Bruce Wetmore of Moscow, Ohio; and three grandchildren, Aimee, Laura and Bryan Wetmore of Moscow, Ohio.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Jane Phillips Wetmore; a son John Phillips; a brother, Willard Smith; and a son - in - law, James West. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. with a Scripture service at 8 p.m. in the Burr Funeral Home, Bryan.
A funeral mass will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Charles Ritter to officiate. Burial will take place at Shiffler cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Ovarian Cancer National Alliance, Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers Intensive Care Unit or St. Patrick Catholic Church.
