Michael Shannon
(1948 - 2006)

Michael J. Shannon, 57, of Bryan, died Saturday, June 17, 2006, at the emergency room of Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers - Bryan.
Born Aug. 20, 1948, in Davenport, Iowa, to Violet (Grimmer) and Virgil J. Shannon, he married Maria Poorman on July 17, 1982, at Denton, Texas, and she survives.
A graduate of Iowa State University, he was an engineer for TGM, Inc. of Bryan.
He attended the Christian Family Fellowship, was a member of the Williams County Historical Society, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, the Rapid Phototyping Association and Sigma Pi Fraternity.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his mother of St. Petersburg, Fla.; sons, Don Virgil Shannon of Carollton, Texas, Michael Shannon Jr. of Troy, Ron Shannon and Tony Shannon, both of Bryan; brothers, Dr. Bob (and wife, Elaine) Shannon of La Canada, Calif. and Thom (Gina) Shannon of Benieia, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Tom (Patricia) Horton of Ames, Iowa; nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the First Lutheran Church, Bryan, with the Rev. Wayne Clapp to officiate.
Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

Ralston Oliver "R.O." Stemen
(1905 - 2006)

Ralston Oliver "R.O." Stemen, 100, of Bryan and formerly of Hillsdale, Mich., died Saturday, June 17, 2006, at Hillside Country Living in Bryan.
Born Nov. 24, 1905, in Van Wert County, he was the son of Adeline (Galloway) and J.W. Stemen. He was first married to Florence Strine and she preceded him in death. He was married on Nov. 20, 1945, to Erma Strine and she preceded him in death July 23, 2004.
He was a resident of Hillsdale from 1946 to 1989, after he was a resident of Pioneer and Bryan. He was a farmer and livestock hauler all his life.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Larry (Carma Lou) Haumschild and Mrs. Floyd (Marcella) Schanke, both of Wisconsin, and Mrs. David (Janice) Bilton of Montpelier; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and 25 nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Kennis "Bud" Friess; three sisters, Mabelle Francis, Wanda Keating and Edith Waltz; and four brothers, Ernest, Harold, J. Raliah and Stanley Stemen.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 6 - 8 p.m. in the VanHorn - Eagle Funeral Home, Hillsdale.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with Dr. August Peters to officiate. Interment will follow at the Wyllys cemetery in Cambria Twp.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of the donor's choice.

Nancy R. Altman

EDGERTON - Nancy R. Altman, 74, of Edgerton, died Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind., where she was a patient.
Service arrangements are pending with Krill Funeral Service in Edgerton.

Valetta K. Wetzel

HICKSVILLE - Valetta K. Wetzel, 94, died at Hickory Creek in Hicksville on Tuesday, June 13, 2006.
Among survivors are a son, Earl Crall, of Hicksville.
Funeral Services will be on Friday, June 16, at 10 a.m. at Smith & Brown Funeral Home in Hicksville. Visitation will be Thursday from 3 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Cameron Charles Merillat

WAUSEON - Cameron Charles Merillat, infant son of Beth (Kerr) and Martin Merillat, died Sunday, June 11, 2006, at the St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are two sisters, Paige and Macie Merillat at home; maternal grandparents, Bill and Sandy Kerr of Wauseon; paternal grandparents, Sam and Nancy Merillat of Archbold; maternal great-grandmother, Marcia Kerr of Wauseon; paternal great-grandparents, Charles "Bud" and Leola Merillat of Archbold and Jacquieline Bechtold of Archbold.
Funeral services will be private. Interment will be in the Archbold cemetery. Edgar - Grisier Funeral Home in Wauseon is in charge of arrangements.

Helen M. Figley
(1918 - 2006)

PIONEER - Helen M. Figley, 88, of Pioneer and formerly of Reading, Mich., died Monday morning, June 12, 2006, at Judy's Kountry Care, near Pioneer, following a lingering illness. Born March 17, 1918, in Florence Township, Williams County, to Golda L. (Johnson) and Edward C. Trausch, she married Francis Moreland and he preceded her in death in February 1962. She later married Harley Figley and he preceded her in death in November 1989.
A homemaker, she was a member of the Bryan V.F.W. Auxiliary No. 2487, Pioneer American Legion Auxiliary and the Montpelier Eagles Auxiliary.
Surviving are two sons, LaMar (and wife, Sonja) Moreland and Lauren "Ed" (Robin) Moreland, all of Pioneer; four daughters, LaVera Smith and Donna Gill, both of Pioneer, Mrs. Carl (Phyllis) Bair and Betty Williams, all of St. Petersburg, Fla.; 23 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Frank Moreland in December 1996; six grandchildren; a brother, Donald Trausch; and a sister, Emma Willis.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 6 - 8 p.m. in the Thompson Funeral Home, Pioneer, with a Bryan V.F.W. Auxiliary No. 2487 memorial service to follow at 8 p.m. in the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Jerry Searle to officiate. Burial will be in Maplewood cemetery, Reading, Mich.
Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

Virginia "Ginny" Roth
(1917 - 2006)

ALVORDTON - Virginia "Ginny" Mae Roth, 88, of Alvordton, died Sunday evening, June 11, 2006, at the Heartland Health Care of Wauseon.
Born Dec. 12, 1917, in Wauseon, to Olive (Hampshire) and Gomiel Miller, she married Harvey W. Roth on Jan. 6, 1944, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 10, 2004.
A 1935 graduate of Wauseon High School, she had previously been employed by Beam & Stream Manufacturing of Montpelier and the Tiffin River Plaza on the Ohio Turnpike.
She was a farmer's wife and homemaker and an active member of the Alvordton United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a son, Jerry (and wife, Mary Lou) Roth of Wooster; a daughter, Judy Dietrich of West Unity; a granddaughter, Mrs. Andrew (Amanda Roth) Hetler of Akron; four brothers, David (Midge) Miller of Alvordton, Otto (Marty) Miller of Temperance, Mich., Richard Miller of Las Cruces, N.M. and Clair Miller of Toledo; four sisters, Val Daniels of Toledo, Beverly Winch of Wetmore, Mich. Pat Grove of Lowell, Mich. and Mrs. Jerry (Gloria) Pawlicki of Delta; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her husband, by her parents; three brothers, Larry, Rollin and Franklin Miller; and two sisters, Margaret Daniels and Joneta Miller.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. in the Hollingshead - Beck Funeral Home in West Unity.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Larry Snow to officiate. Burial will be in the Floral Grove cemetery in Pioneer.
Memorials may be made to the Alvordton United Methodist Church.

Warren "Bill" Mullens
(1921 - 2006)

MONTPELIER - Warren "Bill" Mullens, 85, of rural Montpelier, died early Sunday, June 11, 2006, at Park View Nursing Center, Edgerton, following an illness.
Born April 24, 1921, at Robinwood, W. Va., to Blanche (Hamrick) and Frank Mullens, he married Lou Ann Fitzwater on Jan. 14, 1942, and she survives.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he had been in combat in Europe in both the D - Day landings in Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge.
He had been a West Virginia resident until he and his wife relocated in 1980 to Williams County to be near family.
A lifelong educator, he was a graduate of Glenville State College and received his master's degree from West Virginia University. He had retired as Clay County, West Virginia, Superintendent of Schools. After moving to Williams County, he was employed by the Office of Williams County Schools and had done substitute teaching in area schools.
He was a member and former deacon of the Alderson Baptist Church in Craigsville, W. Va., was an active member of the Williams County Coon Hunters Association and attended the West Eagle Creek Presbyterian Church near Montpelier.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Mrs. Duane (Beverly Jo) Burns of Edon; a granddaughter, Mrs. Vaughn (Karen) Hukill Jr. of Edon; three great-grandchildren, Gary L. Hukill of Edon, Mrs. Josh (Shawnaa) Harwell of Bryan and Mrs. Lauren (Sindy) Riggs of Defiance; four great-great-grandchildren, Blake, Derek, Alexandria and Delaney; two brothers, James F. Mullens of Fort Wayne, Ind. and Benjamin Mullens of Calvin, W. Va.; two sisters, Edna Martin of Craigsville, W. Va. and Maxine Denius of Rockford, Ill.
He was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in the Thompson Funeral Home, Montpelier.
Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Tawee Layraman to officiate. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery, Montpelier, with graveside military rites to be conducted by Montpelier Veterans Organizations.
Memorials may be made to the West Eagle Creek Presbyterian Church.

Mildred R. Bechtol
(1917 - 2006)

MONTPELIER - Mildred R. Bechtol, 88, of rural Montpelier, died Friday morning, June 9, 2006, at Community Hospital and Wellness Center of Williams County, Bryan, following a lingering illness.
Born June 11, 1917, at Montpelier, to Palma (Ewers) and Charles C. Henry, she was a lifelong area resident.
On June 11, 1935, she was married to Dale S. Bechtol and he preceded her in death on Dec. 22, 1980.
A homemaker, she previously had been employed with Edon Canning Company and Edon Verneer Company.
She was a member of the Montpelier Church of Christ.
Surviving are a son, Norman D. (Beatrice) Bechtol of Montpelier; a daughter, Geraldine M. Fite of Seatac, Wash.; five grandchildren, Dale (and wife, Sandy) Fite of Auburn, Wash., Dennis (Allison) Fite of Bonney Lake, Wash., Duane Fite of Federal Way, Wash., Mrs. Jerry (Deborah) Jackson of Bryan and Mrs. Tim (Peggy) Osterhout of Frederick, Okla.; four stepgrandchildren, Rod (Janiece) Stoy, Kenneth (LuAnn) Entriken and David (Janet) Custer, all of Montpelier, and Lewis (Sharron) Entriken of Pittsford, Mich.; eight great-grandchildren, Crystal Jackson of Bryan, Eric and Jennifer Osterhout of Frederick, Okla., Diane Fite of Troy, N.Y., Brian and Robin Fite of Bonney Lake, Wash. and Ashley and Jesse Fite of Auburn, Wash.; 12 stepgreat-grandchildren; 13 stepgreat-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Laura Vale of Clark Lake, Mich., Elgie Bechtol of Montpelier and Harriette Carey of Bryan; a very special niece, Sue Gipple of Montpelier, and several other nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, were an infant son, Ronald Bechtol, and two brothers, David Henry and an infant.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. in the Wilson - Geesey Funeral Home, Montpelier.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with Dean Phillips, minister, to officiate. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery, Montpelier.
Memorials may be made to Montpelier Church of Christ.

Maurice Warner
(1931 - 2006)

Maurice A. Warner, 75, of Bryan, died early Thursday, June 8, 2006, at the emergency room of Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers - Bryan.
Born Jan. 23, 1931, at West Unity, to Alta (Booram) and Clem C. Warner, he married Phylis A. Page on Jan. 27, 1950, in the E.U.B. Church Parish, Bryan, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 13, 2001.
He worked in Shipping and Receiving at Bard Manufacturing, beginning his employment there in 1971. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Bryan.
Surviving are a son, Steve (and wife, Linda) Warner of Pulaski; a daughter, Linda Collins of Casa Grande, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Chris A. Buchs and Scott M. Buchs of Fort Wayne, Ind. and Joni Warner and Geoffry Warner of Bryan; several great-grandchildren; two brothers, Linford (Martha Marie) Warner of Bryan and Carl (Grace) Warner of Marblehead; a sister, Mrs. Raymond (Carolann) Folk of Bryan; and a brother - in - law, Lavern Lanzer of Napoleon.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Lanzer.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 1 - 4 p.m. in the Oberlin - Ford Funeral Home - Bryan.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Diane Schaffner to officiate. Burial will follow in Shiffler cemetery, Pulaski.
Memorials may be made to Williams County Special Olympics or to the Bryan Senior Center.

Harry Hutson
(1926 - 2006)

Harry Hutson, 79, of Bryan, died Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at the TCU of Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers - Bryan.
Born June 26, 1926, at Winchester, Ind., he was the son of Josephine (Szymanski) and Harry Hutson. He married Mildred Hutson and she preceded him in death. He then married Berdina Mohr and she preceded him in death on Feb. 18, 2003.
A veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy, he was a mail carrier for the Bryan City area for 22 years, retiring in 1986.
Surviving are close friend, Donna Stier of Bryan and her family; daughters, Sandra Bristow of Porter, Texas, Roxanne Dennis of Vancouver, Wash.; stepsons, Charles Heitzman of Okeechobee, Fla. and Stacey Heitzman of Hicksville; stepdaughters, Peggy Musser and Penny Musser of Bryan; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Mrs. Harley (Blanche) Shaffer of Modoc, Ind.
In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert Hutson and John Hutson; a sister, Frances Beals; and a stepgrandchild.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Oberlin - Ford Funeral Home - Bryan with the Rev. Dennis Jones to officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow in Maple Grove cemetery, Edgerton.
Memorials may be made to the Bryan Senior Center.
