ESTHER L. MORRIS
Esther L. Morris, 84, of Blanchester, Ohio died 3:10 PM, Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at her residence. Her husband, Edward C. Morris, preceded her in death in 1988. They were married in 1942. Mrs. Morris was born March 10, 1925 in Lynchburg, Ohio, daughter of the late Joe P. and Eva Gibson Putman. She was a graduate of Blanchester High School. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed quilting.
Mrs. Morris is survived by a son, Eric Morris of Ocala, Florida; three daughters, Karen (John) Stanforth of Wilmington, Ohio, Judy Vance of Clarksville, Ohio, and Trish (Vic) Morris-Leighliter of New Marshfield, Ohio; three brothers, Walter Putman of Canada, Ralph Putman of Florida, and Robert Putman of Florida; a sister, Ruth Grossnickle of California; ten grandchildren, John Stanforth, Ann (Scott) Rodman, Tracey (Jerry) Runk, Bryan (Rene) Vance, Brad Vance, Beth Ellis, Jamie Wortman, Valerie Stewart, Shane (Lucy) Stewart, and Daniel Morris; 13 great grandchildren, Lyndsey, Phillip, Mallory, Evan, Jordan, J.R., Ashley, Erik, Skylar, Caleb, Courtney, Dylan, and Juaquin; and a great-great granddaughter, Larkin. In addition to her husband and parents, two sons, Eddie Morris and Kent Morris, a brother, Donald Putman, and a sister, Vivian Johnson, are preceded in death.
A graveside service will be held at Sugar Grove cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Community Care Hospice, P.O. Box 123, Wilmington, Ohio 45177.

JOHN PHILLIP HARTLEY
John Phillip Hartley, 61, of Hillsboro, Ohio died 5:17 AM, Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at his residence. His wife, Linda R. Valentine Hartley, whom he married August 18, 1995, survives. Mr. Hartley was born January 31, 1949 in Wilmington, Ohio, son of the late Dale and Veda Mae Davis Hartley. He served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy. During his military service he did three tours in Vietnam. Mr. Hartley was a semi-trailer mechanic. He had worked for NNK Trailer Repair in Sharonville, Ohio.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Hartley is survived by two sons, John Paul (Gail) Hartley of Hillsboro, Ohio and Patrick Allen Hartley (Rebecca) Fraley of Jeffersonville, Ohio; a daughter, Veda Mae (Scott) Schafer of Jeffersonville, Ohio; a sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Frank Meinike of Newtonsville, Ohio; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Randy and Josephine Hartley of Hillsboro, Ohio, Richard and Marilyn Hartley of Lees Creek, Ohio; and Brenda Hartley of Blanchester, Ohio; four grandsons; three granddaughters; four aunts, Kate Stivers of Florida, Pat (Larry) Prevo of Michigan, Mary Barton of Columbus, Ohio, and Leatha Stanforth of Hillsboro, Ohio; several nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends. In addition to his parents, a brother, Thomas Hartley, and a stepdaughter, Kimberly Valentine, are preceded in death.
Funeral services will be 7:00 PM, Monday, April 5, 2010 at the Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Monday, April 5, 2010 at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in Sugar Grove cemetery.

EVELYN RUTH BLACK
Evelyn Ruth Gaston Black, 82, of Wilmington, Ohio died 6:12 PM, Tuesday, April 6, 2010. Her husband, James P. Black, preceded her in death March 15, 1970. They were married February 13, 1943. Mrs. Black was born May 6, 1927 in Seaman, Ohio, daughter of the late Paul M. and Ruth Williamson Gaston.
Mrs. Black was a proofreader and typesetter for Osborn-Kemper-Thomas and Wilmington Publishing Company. She also taught piano for several years. She loved knitting, crocheting, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Black is survived by two sons, Paul Edward (Cynthia) Black of Wilmington, Ohio and John P. Black of Wilmington, Ohio; a daughter, Linda (Patrick) Albrecht of Clarksville, Ohio; a sister, Lois Jean (Robert) Brush of Troy, Ohio; six grandchildren, Thomas Gauden Jr. of Centerville, Ohio, Amy Tumbleson of Wilmington, Ohio, Terry (Dea) Gauden of New Vienna, Ohio, Michael (Tasha) Black of Sabina, Ohio, Rachel (Brian) Brooks of Wilmington, Ohio, and Jonda Lombardo of Sabina, Ohio; four step grandchildren, Jay Debold, Jamie Debold, David (Kenya) Albrecht, and Tina Barrett; ten great grandchildren, Stacy (Dave) Emerson, Mick (Ashley) Gauden, Nicholas Gauden, Drew Black, William Brooks, Alex Brooks, Emma Brooks, Michael Withrow, Haleigh Lombardo, and Kirstin Lombardo; seven step great grandchildren, Brandon Debold, Jarron Debold, Aron Albrecht, Shelby Albrecht, Jessica Barrett, Corey Barrett, and Amanda Taylor; two great-great grandchildren, Mackinzie Miller and Evelyn Gauden; several nieces and nephews; and her cats, Bridgit and Little Bit. In addition to her husband and parents, a brother, Harold D. "Rosie" Gaston, is preceded in death.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, April 12, 2010 at Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio with Chaplain John Love officiating. Interment will be in Sugar Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM, Monday, April 12, 2010 at the Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home.

PHILLIP E. COCHRAN
Phillip E. Cochran, 69, of Wilmington, Ohio died 3:47 PM, Monday, March 22, 2010 at his residence. His wife, Betty Lamb Cochran, whom he married February 28, 1959, survives. Mr. Cochran was born December 12, 1940 in Wilmington, Ohio, son of the late Paul and Dorothy Sams Cochran. He was a 1959 graduate of Little Miami High School.
Mr. Cochran was a farmer for 49 years of his life. Additionally, he had been a supervisor at Frigidaire in Moraine City. He was a member of the Wilmington Assembly of God. He enjoyed tractor pulling and was a member of the Southwestern Tractor Pulling Association. He also coached softball at the Wilmington City Park for 13 years.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Cochran is survived by a son, Les (Rhonda) Cochran of Lynchburg, Ohio; two daughters, Joni (Tony) Kralich of Kettering, Ohio and Diane (Terry) Brewer of Wilmington, Ohio; three brothers, Walter "Pete" (Evelyn) Cochran of Martinsville, Ohio, Harold (Lina) Cochran of Lebanon, Ohio, and Donald (Doris) Cochran of Wilmington, Ohio; a sister, Betty (Sam) Achtermann of Wilmington, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Lisa Kralich, Jessica (Eric) Conley, Susan Kralich, Bradley Cochran, Anthony Kralich, Andrew Kralich, Leslee Brewer, Sidney Brewer, Alexa Cochran, and Kali Cochran; four great grandchildren, Maleigha Pope, Braydon Conley, Bryant Conley, and Brynn Conley; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at the Wilmington Church of Christ, 909 W. Locust Street, Wilmington, Ohio with Rev. Bill Lamb officiating. Burial will be in Miami cemetery, Corwin, Ohio. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Monday, March 29, 2010 at the Wilmington Church of Christ. ROBERT F. "PAPPY" BURKE
Robert F. "Pappy" Burke of New Vienna, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on his 67th birthday (March 23, 2010). He is survived by his wife, of 45 years, Betty L. Pinkerton Burke. Mr. Burke was born March 23, 1943 in Louisville, Kentucky, son of Bonnie Johnson Burke of Piketon, Ohio and the late James Burke. After graduating from Piketon High School in 1963, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Oriskany. He was a proud Vietnam veteran.
Bob was an avid reader of U.S. history and loved writing poetry. He was an active member of the New Vienna community, having coached Little League for many years. He was a member of the Samantha Free Will Baptist Church, Right to Life, and a life member of the American Legion Post 0142. Bob enjoyed hunting fishing, camping, and telling stories from his childhood, but most of all he loved his church and family. Bob was a devoted husband, dad, Pappy, son, brother, uncle, and friend.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by three daughters, Bobi (Kevin) House of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, Beth (Frank) Kelly of Jamestown, Ohio, and Brenda (Lee) Harris of Leesburg, Ohio; a brother, Wendell (Bev) Burke of Gregory, Michigan; two sisters, Kathy (Tony) Fielder of Waverly, Ohio and Donna (David) McCann of Piketon, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Brandon PeGan, Kenny Kelly, Brittani House, Aimee Jo Kelly, Faith Harris, Wyatt Harris, and Bryce House; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a special buddy, Cameron. In addition to his father, a brother, Roger Lee, is preceded in death.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 27, 2010 at the Samantha Free Will Baptist Church, 10211 St. Rte. 72, Hillsboro, Ohio with Rev. Wiley Perkins officiating. Burial will be in High Top cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Friday, March 26, 2010 and from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 27, 2010 at the Samantha Free Will Baptist Church.

JAMES H. GABRIEL
Lt. Col. James H. Gabriel, 83 of Wilmington, Ohio died 10:20 PM, Saturday, March 27, 2010 at the Columbus Alzheimer Care Center. His wife, Joy Cochran-Gabriel, preceded him in death April 27, 2006.
He was born April 18, 1926 in Samantha, Ohio. After graduating high school he served in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Gabriel then attended The Ohio State University where he was a member of the marching band, the Eta Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity, and the Beta Xi Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Music Fraternity. He graduated from OSU in 1950 with a degree in music education. Mr. Gabriel then taught music for the Blanchester School System. Mr. Gabriel then decided on a career in the United States Army. He served in the Korea and Vietnam wars and ultimately retired as a lieutenant colonel. After leaving the Army, he worked for the Governmental Accountability Office, eventually retiring from there as well.
He was a member of the Clinton County Historical & Genealogical Societies. He was instrumental in establishing the Historical South-South Street District. He enjoyed reading, traveling, bird watching, and gardening. He had a vast collection of music and was extremely knowledgeable in military history.
Mr. Gabriel is survived by a son, James Philip (Junko) Gabriel of Tucson, Arizona; three stepdaughters, Diane H. (Milton) Murphy of Wilmington, Ohio, Cindy Beck of Centerville, Ohio, and Terese Hamilton of Wilmington, Ohio; a twin brother, John R. (Dorothy) Gabriel of Galloway, Ohio; and six grandchildren, Mika (Russ) Perry of Phoenix, Arizona, Rusty Fife of Cincinnati, Ohio, Emily Fife of Hamilton, Ohio, Tina Hamilton of Wilmington, Ohio, Christy Beck of Centerville, Ohio, and Mitchell Beck of Centerville, Ohio. In addition to his wife, his father, Harry Vanzant, his mother, Pearl Roades Vanzant, one brother, and three sisters, are preceded in death.
A graveside service will be held 2:30 PM, Friday, April 2, 2010 at Martinsville I.O.O.F. cemetery. Friends may call from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM, Friday, April 2, 2010 at Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio.

JOSEPH D. WILLIAMS
Joseph D. Williams, 80, of Wilmington, Ohio died 4:10 PM, Monday, March 29, 2010 at Hospice of Cincinnati, Blue Ash, Ohio. His wife, Lorene Salisbury Williams, whom he married June 22, 1958, survives. Mr. Williams was born April 30, 1929 in Martinsville, Ohio, son of the late C. V. and Edith Saw Williams. He was a graduate of Martinsville High School. He received his bachelor's degree from Wilmington College and his master's degree from Miami University. He also served in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Williams spent most of his career as a teacher with the Little Miami School System. For a brief period, he served as principal of Morrow Elementary and Waynesville Elementary, but did not find it as satisfying as being in the classroom.
He was a member of the Wilmington United Methodist Church, the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, and a former member of the Wilmington Kiwanis Club.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Williams is survived by a son, Scott Williams of Oxford, Ohio, two daughters, Jennifer (Jim) Overly of Cincinnati, Ohio and Kathy (David) Criddle of Wyoming, Ohio; a sister, Diana Chotvacs of Grand Junction, Colorado; two granddaughters, Elaina Criddle and Sara Criddle; and a niece, Judy (David) West. In addition to his parents, a brother, H. Samuel Williams, is preceded in death.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, April 5, 2010 at the Wilmington United Methodist Church, 50 E. Locust Street, Wilmington, Ohio with Rev. Dean Feldmeyer & Rev. Shirley Cadle officiating.

CHARLES MARVIN WHITING
Charles Marvin Whiting, 72, of New Vienna, Ohio died 7:59 PM, Thursday, April 29, 2010 at Clinton Memorial Hospital. His wife, Brenda L. Frye, preceded him in death June 25, 2006. Mr. Whiting was born January 12, 1938 in Clinton County, Ohio, son of the late Estel Harry Whiting and Mary Frances Rosselot Whiting. He served in the United States Army. Mr. Whiting was a mechanic and a longtime employee of B & B Brake Shop in Wilmington. In his spare time, he enjoyed beekeeping and farming.
Mr. Whiting is survived by four daughters, Georgie (Paul) Miller of New Vienna, Ohio, Mary Frances (Charles "Russ") Dobbins of Urbana, Ohio, Pam (Andy Jr.) Keaton of Hillsboro, Ohio, and Sally Jo (Daniel) Alegria of Edroy, Texas; two brothers, Gerald (Louella) Whiting of New Vienna, Ohio and Larry (Donna) Whiting of Wilmington, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Joshua Davidson, Kelly (John) Blagg, Stephen (Mossie) Henize, Erick Henize, Ben Henize, Belia Alegria, Angelina Alegria, and Olivia Alegria; two great grandchildren, Cash Blagg and Lillian Grace Henize; his former wife and the mother of his children, Martha Jane Jones of Hillsboro, Ohio; and his close friend, Bob Webb of Wilmington, Ohio. In addition to his wife and parents, a sister, Margene Whiting, is preceded in death.
Funeral services will be 4:00 PM, Saturday, May 1, 2010 at the L. Eugene Smith & Son Funeral Home, 64 S. South Street, New Vienna, Ohio with Pastor Robert Miller officiating. JOSEPH NICHOLAS SCHULTZ
Joseph Nicholas Schultz, 89, passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side, 1:17 AM, Saturday, April 17, 2010. His wife, Marian Louise Garbutt Schultz, preceded him in death October 30, 1988. They were married September 16, 1950. Mr. Schultz was born February 21, 1921 in Cincinnati, Ohio, son of the late Nicholas and Kathlene Retzler Schultz. He was a graduate of Terrace Park High School, the University of Cincinnati, and Deforest Technical School in Chicago. He served in WWII with the 744th Army Air Force Base Unit, 114th Army Airways Communications System Squadron in North Africa, Egypt, Arabia, and Turkey.
After serving in the military, he began his career with the Container Corporation of America in Cincinnati where he was involved in plant operations and as a purchasing agent. He retired in 1983 after 42 years of employment.
He and his wife moved to Clarksville in 1953 to raise their family. He was a member of the Clarksville Men's Club and a longtime Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 155. He was also an original member of the Clinton Massie Boosters Organization and P.A. announcer for both Clinton Massie football and basketball for 20 years. He was an avid bowler and golfer for many years. He was a past secretary of the Wilmington Bowling Association and the Elks 797 bowling league. He was a member of the Elks National Bowling Committee and was inducted into the WBA Hall of Fame in 1995. He was a member of the American Legion Post 49 and took great pride in being an active member of the American Legion Memorial Squad. He was a devoted member of St. Columbkille Catholic Church.
He is survived by a daughter, Mary Jo (Tom) Riley of Calvert City, Kentucky; a son, Steve (Sharon) Schultz of Clarksville, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Maj. Todd (Suzanne) Schultz of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Holly (Paul) Young of Wilmington, Ohio, Mick (Hillary) Schultz of Wilmington, Ohio, Rick Schultz of Clarksville, Ohio, Rusty (Becky) Riley of Calvert City, Kentucky, Capt. Bill Riley of Lexington, Kentucky, and Quentin Riley of Calvert City, Kentucky; nine great grandchildren, Chelsea Young of Wilmington, Ohio, Nicholas Young of Wilmington, Ohio, Lillian Shultz of Wilmington, Ohio, Jackson Schultz of Wilmington, Ohio, Jacob Schultz of Wilmington, Ohio, James Schultz of Wilmington, Ohio, Ashley Schultz of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, Hunter Schultz of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, and Braydon Riley of Calvert City, Kentucky; longtime companion and very special family friend, Billie Wilson of Wilmington, Ohio; as well as family members, Marty, David, and Bob Schultz of Cincinnati, Ohio . In addition to his wife and parents, two brothers, John Schultz and Anthony Schultz, a sister, Mary Margaret Napier, an infant brother and two infant sisters, and a nephew, Jack Schultz, are preceded in death.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, April 22, 2010 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church, 73 N. Mulberry Street, Wilmington, Ohio with Rev. James M. Wedig and Deacon Robert Baker officiating. Burial will be in Clarksville cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Post 49 Memorial Squad. Friends may call from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at the Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio. THOMAS T. RAYBURN
Thomas T. Rayburn, 64, of Columbus, died 2:25 pm, Thursday, April 29, 2010, at his home, following an extended illness.
He was born May 23, 1945 in Dayton, OH to Mervin T. and M. Frances Tibbals Rayburn. Survivors include his daughters, Jill Rayburn (Kevin) Mastroianni, of Columbus, Kelli Rayburn, of Boulder, CO, and Frani Rayburn (Steve) Croghan, of Wilmington, OH; four grandchildren, Alex, Jacob Thomas, and Gabbi Croghan, and Lucia Mastroianni; a sister, Molly Rayburn (Brian) Lennie, of Kiel, WI; his former wife and mother of his children, Pam Walty Rayburn, of Sabina, OH; three nephews, Brad, Scott and Doug Lennie; and beloved friends, Jim and Rhonda Nein. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Walty Rayburn, and his parents.
Mr. Rayburn was a former employee of Mac Tools and Armco Steel. He was currently employed as Human Resources Director of Nein Law Offices. He was a 1963 graduate of Middletown High School, and a 1969 graduate of the University of Dayton. He was a member of the Premiere at Sawmill Athletic Club.
A memorial service will be held 4:00 pm, Wednesday, at the Egan-Ryan Funeral Service, Northwest Chapel, 4661 Kenny Road, Columbus, Rev. David Hawley officiating. Honorary pallbearers include Pete Dobrozi, Jim Nein, Gary Sargent, John Sawyer, Danny Schaffer, Robert Smithson, Robert Walden and Hamilton Watkins. Arrangements are under the direction of the Haller Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Homereach Hospice, 3595 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, OH 43214-4034.
