James E. Boyd

Akron, Ohio - James E. Boyd, 61, of Akron, Ohio and formerly of Norwalk, Ohio, died Sunday, December 27, 2009 in the Carl Stokes Veterans Hospital in Brecksville, Ohio. He was born March 7, 1948 in Callaway, Virginia and lived in the Norwalk area most of his life.
James was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam and received 2 purple heart medals. He was a member of Firelands Post #2743 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Norwalk, Ohio and Laborers Union Local No. 480. James was employed at Oglesby Construction Company of Norwalk, Ohio for 24 years and was a former employee of Norwalk Furniture Co. He enjoyed jigsaw and word search puzzles.
James is survived by his mother, Florine R. Boyd of Akron, Ohio and by his daughter and son in law, Yosonda N. and James McCafferty of Lakewood, Ohio and three grandchildren, Alexis, Desmond, and Chloe. He is also survived by his brother, Cecil D. Boyd of Salem, Virginia and by his sisters, Lolane and James Bynum of Atlanta, Georgia, Carolyn R. Boyd of Akron, Ohio and Patricia Boyd of Atlanta, Georgia and by a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and a friends. James was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Edward Boyd in 1998 and by his sister, Janie Marie Lampkin in 1982.
There will be no calling hours, memorial services will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in Woodlawn cemetery, Norwalk, Ohio.
**A Memorial Luncheon will be held for James E. Boyd, 61, formerly of Norwalk, Ohio, on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at Firelands Post #2743 Veterans of Foreign Wars, 140 Milan Avenue, Norwalk, Ohio. Funeral services will be private.**

Mary Joan Cole

Norwalk, Ohio - Mary Joan Cole, 83, of Norwalk, Ohio, died early Tuesday morning, January 12, 2010 in Fisher-Titus Medical Center. She was born December 18, 1926 in Norwalk, Ohio to the late Clyde and Mildred (Baque) Tucker and was a lifelong area resident.
Joan was a member of the Norwalk First United Methodist Church and was a former secretary for the Norwalk City Schools. She was also a former secretary for Dr. Duffes of Norwalk, for the Norwalk First United Methodist Church and retired in 1991 as the secretary at the Co-operative Extension Service. Joan was a former volunteer at Fisher-Titus Medical Center and enjoyed cross stitching, ceramics, gardening, and sodoku puzzles. She also enjoyed bird watching, collecting shells on Sanibel Island, Florida, walking and the companionship of her dog, Penny. Joan especially enjoyed being a wife, mother and especially enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons and daughter in law, Chuck and Brenda Perry of Norwalk, Ohio and Thomas William Cole, also of Norwalk, Ohio, and by her daughter and son in law, Linda and Ron Pheifer of Norwalk, Ohio, 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Joan is also survived by her brother and sister in law, Robert and Marcia Tucker of Columbus, Ohio and a very special Aunt, Mary Baque of Clearwater, Florida. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jay Charles Perry in March of 2002 and by her second husband, Robert I. Cole in November of 2002, and by her brothers Dean and David Tucker.
Friends may call on Friday, January 15, 2010 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio where funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 11:30 A.M. Rev. James McClain, Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Norwalk, Ohio will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery, Norwalk, Ohio.

William R. Fugel

Collins, Ohio - William R. Fugel, 82, of Collins, Ohio, died Wednesday evening, December 9, 2009 in Fisher-Titus Medical Center. He was born June 27, 1927 in Welch, West Virginia to the late Paul and Julia (Brisky) Fugel and came to this area when he was 5 years old and raised by his Aunt and Uncle, John and Mary Horvath of Collins, Ohio.
He was a 1945 graduate of Townsend High School where he was an athlete for the Townsend High School Trojans. Bill was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Norwalk, Ohio. He was a charter member of the Townsend Township Fire Department, was a former Townsend Township Clerk and was a member of United Auto Workers Local #1957. Bill was a former house and sign painter, was a former employee of E.I. Dupont Corporation of Huron, Ohio for 10 years and retired from Chrysler Plastic Products of Sandusky, Ohio in 1989. He played Fast Pitch Softball for many years, enjoyed fishing, hunting, and boating, was an avid Ohio State sports fan and especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Bill is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marie H. (Andryejski) Fugel of Collins, Ohio and by his children, William M. and Denise Fugel of Fountain Inn, South Carolina, Sandra M. "Sandi" and Mike Weisenberger of Norwalk, Ohio, and Brenda K. Haley of Sandusky, Ohio. He is also survived by his grandchildren, William S. Fugel, Michele M. Suhie, Jennifer Ann Huff, Courtney Straub, Travis J. Weisenberger, and Wendy R. Groomes and by his great grandchildren, Savannah, Trenton, Tyler, Hunter, Gabriella, and Caitlyn. Bill was preceded in death by two infant brothers.
Friends may call on Sunday, December 13, 2009 from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio where prayer services will be held at 4:30 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, December 14, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. in St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 East Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Frank Kehres will officiate. Interment will be in Collins cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Townsend Township Fire Department, 2776 U.S. Rt. 20, East, Collins, Ohio 44826 or to St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 East Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio 44857 or to the donor's favorite charity.

James C. Alford

Norwalk, Ohio - James C. Alford, 67, of Norwalk, Ohio, died December 11, 2009 in Gaymont Nursing Center.
Born in Toledo, Ohio, James lived most of his life in the Clarksfield and Norwalk area. Survived by wife, Melba D. Alford, son, Douglas J. Alford of Prospect, Ohio, by step children, John M. and Scott D. Brant of Norwalk, Ohio and Ann Marie Kerr of Bellevue, Ohio, 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, by his sister, JoAnne and James Gibson of Mt. Vernon, Ohio. Preceded in death by his daughter, Sherri Lynn Smilie in 2001, by his brother, Roy Alford and sister, Elizabeth Benschoter. There will be no visitation or service. Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alford family.

Mary Ann Williams

Norwalk, Ohio - Mary Ann Williams, 56, of Norwalk, Ohio, died Tuesday, December 15, 2009 in St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo, Ohio.
Born September 20, 1953 in Norwalk, Ohio, Mary was a nurse's aide at Twilight Gardens Home in Norwalk. Survived by sisters, Trisha Albietz of Norwalk, and Traci Carrick of Huron, Ohio, by brothers, Richard Carrick, Jr. of Missiour, Billy Crossan of Urichsville, Ohio, and Kenny Carrick of Kentucky, and her mother, Cheryl Kelly of Norwalk, Ohio.
Mary was preceded in death by her father, Richard Carrick in 1993, by her brother, Rick Carrick, sister, Deborah Carrick. Memorial services will be held on Sunday, December 20, 2009 at 6:00 P.M. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Pastor Tina Hobbs of the Second Baptist Church of New London, Ohio will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Williams family.

Inez M. Bramhill

Huron, Ohio - Inez M. Bramhill, 88, of Huron, died Tuesday afternoon in Admiral Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Huron. She was born October 16, 1921 in Shiloh, Ohio to the late Harry D. and Bessie M. (Smith) Baker and was a lifelong area resident.
Inez was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Norwalk where she was a member of the Fellowship Circle. She was a 1939 Graduate of North Fairfield High School and was a member of the championship women's basketball team at Willard High School. She was a former custodian for the Norwalk City Schools retiring in 1988. She was an avid walker.
Inez is survived by her son and daughter in law, Jack and Ann Bramhill of Norwalk, Ohio and by her daughters and son in law Mildred (Millie) and Richard Myers of Elyria, Ohio and Carol Shaffer of Norwalk, Ohio, 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren. Inez is also survived by her brother Harry T. Baker of North Fairfield, Ohio, and by her sister Jean F. Semple of Flaxville, Montana. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Bramhill in 1990 and by her son David M. Bramhill in 1999 and by 3 grandchildren. Friends may call on Thursday, December 31, 2009 from 3:00p.m. until time of memorial services at 4:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main St. Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Clair Brewer, Associate Pastor of the Norwalk First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Inurnment will be in Riverside cemetery, Monroeville, Ohio on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 11:00 A.M.

Barbara J. Horner

Norwalk, Ohio - Barbara J. Horner, 85, of Norwalk, Ohio, died Monday morning, January 4, 2010 in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, Ohio. She was born March 15, 1924 in Bowling Green, Ohio to the late Denzil H. and Daisy M. (Eppley) Crowe and came to this area in 1961 from Cleveland, Ohio.
Barbara was a member of the Norwalk First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was a 55 year member of Queen Esther Chapter #15 Order of the Eastern Stars and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Barbara was also a member of the Milan Garden Club, the Welcome Wagon Club, was a former member of the Norwalk Elementary P.T.O., and helped organize the Norwalk Truckerette Program at Norwalk High School. She was a former employee of Libby-Owens Ford in Toledo, Ohio, was a secretary for the U.S. Army in Tacoma, Washington, was a secretary for United Methodist Chruch District Superintendent, Dr. Freiling, was a former sales clerk for Sears, the Fashion Shoppe and Spectors.
Barbara was also the former activity coordinator for Huron County Services for the Aging, and was a ward secretary in the Emergency Room of Fisher-Titus Medical Center. She especially enjoyed being a devoted wife and supporting, encouraging and doting over her children and grandchildren. Barbara enjoyed reading, sewing, and watching high school basketball. She and her late husband, Harry E. Horner, who died July 8, 2009 enjoyed ball room dancing. Barbara is survived by her daughters and sons in law, Diane Rodriguez of Rancho Cucamonga, California, Brenda Sue and David Welfle of Norwalk, Ohio and Annette L. and Jeff Graham of Queen Creek, Arizona. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Adam and Carla Welfle, Desiree Rodriguez, Abby Welfle and her finance, Nick Finley, Nick Graham, Matt Welfle, Katie Graham, Derek Rodriguez, Natalie Graham and Sam Graham, by her great grandsons, Levi Stegaman and Andrew C. Welfle, and by her brother and sister in law, Robert E. and Charlotte Crowe of Grafton, Ohio. Barbara was a also preceded in death by her brother, Denzil H. "Jimmy" Crowe, Jr.
Friends may call on Thursday, December 7, 2010 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. with Eastern Star services being held at 7:00 P.M. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio.
Memorial services will be Friday, December 8, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in the Norwalk First United Methodist Church, 60 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Gary Streiff will officiate. Inurnment will be in Oak Grove cemetery, Bowling Green, Ohio.

Beulah M. (Phillips) Hovatter

Beeville, Texas - Beulah M. (Phillips) Hovatter, 78, of Beeville, Texas, and formerly of Norwalk, Ohio, died December 22, 2009 in the Mission Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Refugio, Texas. She was born May 7, 1931 in Somerset, Kentucky to the late Harvey and Abbie (Neely) Casada and moved to Norwalk, Ohio in 1950 from Somerset, Kentucky and moved to Beeville, Texas in 2005.
Beulah was a member of the New Life Baptist Church in Beeville. She was a former employee of the Fanny Farmer Candy Company in Norwalk, Ohio for 32 years where she was a former Union Steward. Beulah was a member of Firelands Post #2743 Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Norwalk, Ohio and enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, listening to country music, was a doll collector and enjoyed socializing with friends and family.
She is survived by son and daughter in law, Ron and Juvelyn Phillips of Willard, Ohio and by her daughters and sons in law, Marsha and John Rose of Wauseon, Ohio and Cheryl and Larry Ramos of Beeville, Texas, 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Beulah is also survived by her sister, Tilda Mitchell of Lorain, Ohio, and former daughter in law, Pamela Sue Phillips of Norwalk, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer L. Hovatter in 2005, by her infant daughter, Betty Sue Phillips, by her brothers, Nolan and Russell Casada and by her infant sister, Alta Casada.
Friends may call on Sunday, January 10, 2009 from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service at 3:00 P.M. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Grant Hardwick of Somerset, Kentucky will officiate. Inurnment will be in Liberty Center Baptist Church cemetery, Bronston, Kentucky.

John H. Crum

Norwalk, Ohio - John H. Crum, 75, of Norwalk, Ohio, died Saturday evening, January 16, 2010 in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky, Ohio. He was born August 16, 1934 in Sandusky, Ohio to the late Elwin O. and Ruth M. (Baker) Crum and was a lifelong area resident.
John was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Monroeville, Ohio was the owner and operator of Warehouse Tire Company, Norwalk, Ohio, for 40 years and was the former owner of Warehouse AMC/Jeep. He was a member of the Tire Industry Association, the Ohio Tire Dealers Association, The National Federation of Independent Business' and the Norwalk Area Chamber of Commerce. John was also a proud sponsor of the Huron County Relay for Life. As a proud husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, John's life was his family and his work.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lynette S. (Heald) Crum of Norwalk, Ohio and by his children, Carole Ann Montgomery of San Francisco, California, Richard J. Crum of Asheville, North Carolina, Howard J. Crum and Connie Myers of Norwalk, Ohio, Lee A. Crum of Norwalk, Ohio and Betsy S. and Jeffrey Feaga of Norwalk, Ohio, 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. John is also survived by his brother, Thomas E. Crum of Norwalk, Ohio and was preceded in death by his daughter in law, Michelle A. (Roth) Crum.
