David L. Roberts

Norwalk, Ohio - David L. Roberts, 52, of Norwalk, Ohio, died Tuesday, May 25, 2010 in his home. He was born September 14, 1957 in Willard, Ohio and was a lifelong area resident. He was a 1977 graduate of Mapleton High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
David was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council #626. He was also a member of the Norwalk Bronson Conservation Club, Ken Bur Bell Post #41 American Legion and Firelands Post #2743 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Norwalk, Ohio. David was a 25 year employee of Certain Teed Corp. of Avery, Ohio. He was a 41 unit blood donor for the American Red Cross. David enjoyed camping, playing solitaire on the computer, collecting baseball caps, and enjoyed his friends, and especially being grandpa to his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Jill (Gfell) Roberts of Norwalk, Ohio and by his daughters and son in law, Hannah Roberts of Norwalk, Ohio and Sara and Kenneth Gee of Norwalk, Ohio, by his grandchildren, Ellyana and Cooper Gee of Norwalk, Ohio. David is also survived by his brothers and sisters in law, Dale and Jan Roberts of Norwalk, Ohio, Eric Roberts of Mansfield, Ohio, Gary and Janet Roberts of New London, Ohio and by his sisters and brother in law, Beverly Roberts of New London, Ohio and Karla and Jimmy Stidam of Plymouth, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth E. Roberts in 1997 and by his mother, Phyllis (Pine) Roberts in 2003.
Friends may call on Friday, May 28, 2010 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, May 29, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. in St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Settlement Road, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Bill Pifher will officiate. Interment will be in St. Alphonsus cemetery.

Charles J. Schaffer

Norwalk, Ohio - Charles J. Schaffer, 63, of Norwalk, Ohio, died Friday, June 11, 2010 in his home. He was born June 20, 1946 in Norwalk, Ohio to the late Theodore and Gladys (Greenfelder) Schaffer.
Charlie returned to Norwalk in 2004 after having lived in LaGrange, Ohio for 25 years and Cleveland, Ohio for 10 years. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and was a 1964 graduate of Monroeville High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Cleveland State University and a MBA from Ashland University. Charlie was a systems analyst for Bendix Vehicle Systems in Elyria, Ohio and retired in 2001. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving in Vietnam. Charlie was a member of Eagles Aerie #711, Norwalk, Ohio and Ken Bur Bell Post #41 American Legion, Norwalk, Ohio. He was a 7 year member and past president of the Keystone High School Band Boosters Club and was an 8 year member of the Keystone High School Board of Education. Charlie enjoyed camping, fishing, ice skating, bicycling and roller blading. Being a systems analyst, Charlie enjoyed using the computer for his work and in later years depended on it to communicate with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Theresa A. (Smith) Schaffer of Norwalk, Ohio and by his sons and daughters in law, Anthony C. "Tony" and Cathy Schaffer of Bellevue, Ohio, Dominic J. and Sharri Schaffer of Los Alamitos, California, Matthew S. and Robin Schaffer of Heath, Ohio, Ted C. and Becky Schaffer of North Olmstead, Ohio, and by his daughter and son-in-law, Erica B. and Andrew Burck of South Charleston, West Virginia. Charlie is also survived by 10 grandchildren (two grandchildren are soon to be born), by his brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Loretta Schaffer, Theodore and Florence Schaffer, Jack and Pat Schaffer, William and Joan Schaffer and by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathleen and Norb Schloemer, Barbara and Leroy Miller, Ruth and Jack Weisenberger, Patricia and Jim Stieber and F.J. and Mary Jane Dick. He was preceded in death by his parents Theodore and Gladys Schaffer, his sister Joanne (Schaffer) Dick, his brother Thomas Schaffer and sister-in-law Rosemary Schaffer.
Family and friends may call on Monday, June 14, 2010 from 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. at Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Memorial Mass will also be on Monday, June 14, 2010 at 4:30 P.M. at St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 East Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio 44857. Rev. Frank Kehres, pastor of St. Paul Catholic Church and Rev. Dave Cirata, pastor of St. Jerome Catholic Church, will officiate.
True to his caring and compassion for others, Charlie donated his body to the University of Toledo Medical Center for Parkinson's Disease Research. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Attn: Tribute Gifts, Church St. Station, P.O. William J. Bedell

Norwalk, Ohio - William J. Bedell, 88, of Norwalk, Ohio, died early Saturday morning, April 17, 2010 in Fisher-Titus Medical Center. He was born January 8, 1922 in Norwalk, Ohio to the late LeRoy S. and Helen M. (Arnold) Bedell and was a lifelong area resident.
Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in W.W.II in England. He retired from New Departure of Sandusky. Ohio where he worked for 30 years. Bill enjoyed farming and owned and drove Trotter Harness Race Horses. He raced horses from the Huron County Fairgrounds for over 30 years breeding a winner of the Fulton pace for two year olds and also raced at Northfield Downs and at several tracks in Pennsylvania, Illinois, Michigan and Canada and had been a back stretch judge at many area county fairs. He bred and bought only the best blood lines which lead to his success in the Harness Horse Industry and was proud to have owned Fast Fox, Bye Bye Diana and Meadow Dart. He also enjoyed Stock Car Racing, hunting and family gatherings.
Bill was a member of the United States Trotting Association, the Buckeye Trotting Association, the Ohio Harness Horseman's Association, the Ohio Colt Racing Association, the Western Ohio Colt Racing Association, and was a life member of Firelands Post #2743 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Norwalk, Ohio. He had participated in the Ohio Sires Stakes, the Buckeye Super Stakes Circuit, the Northern Ohio Colt Stakes, Home Talent Colt Stakes, North Central Colt Stakes, the Northwest Ohio Colt Stakes and the Ohio Sires Stakes.
He is survived by his sisters, Geneva Cox of Willard, Ohio, Jean and Phil Leak of Norwalk, Ohio and Shirley Mack of Norwalk, Ohio and by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Kaye Francis Sommers and Mary Wagner, by his step-father, Clifford Fritz in 2005, and by his nephew, John P. Leak in 1996.
Calling hours will be private. Funeral services will be held on Monday April 19, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio 44857. Rev. Margaret D'Aneri, Pastor of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Norwalk, Ohio will officiate. Burial will be in Hartland Ridge cemetery with Military Graveside Services being conducted by Firelands Post #2743 Veterans of Foreign Wars and Ken Bur Bell Post #41 American Legion, Norwalk, Ohio. Mary I. Trautman

Norwalk, Ohio - Mary I. Trautman, 88, of Norwalk, Ohio, died Thursday afternoon, May 13, 2010 in Norwalk Memorial Home. She was born December 25, 1921 in Monroeville, Ohio to the late Ralph A. and Mary I. (Brooks) Gfell and lived in the Sandusky and Norwalk areas most of her life having spent 8 years from 1974 to 1982 in Chicago with her husband.
Mary was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and was also a member of Firelands Post #2743 Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Ken Bur Bell Post #41 American Legion Auxiliary. She and her husband Cliff enjoyed stock car racing. Mary drove in many races winning at Norwalk Raceway, Daytona Raceway, Bristol (Tennessee) Raceway, Atlanta Raceway and other tracks in Ohio and Indiana and was one of the first women race car drivers. Her real passion in life, however, was being a wife, mother, and grandmother.
Mary is survived by her husband of 70 years, Clifford T. Trautman of Norwalk, Ohio and by her son and daughter in law, Dale J. and Carol Trautman of Norwalk, Ohio and by her daughter in law, Gretchen (Trautman) and Bill Landoll of Norwalk, Ohio. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Julee and Rick Fries, Lisa and Patrick Schultz, Lori and Randy Wheeler, and Joseph and Carla Trautman, by 11 great grandchildren, and by her sister, Alice Augustine of Mansfield, Ohio. Mary was preceded in death by her son, Clifford Thomas "Tom" Trautman, Jr. in 1972, by her brothers, Arnold and Robert Gfell and by her sisters, Gladys, Polly, Lucille, Louise, and Leona.
Friends may call on Sunday, May 16, 2010 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio where prayer services will be held at 3:30 P.M. Memorial Mass will be Monday, May 17, 2010 at 1:30 P.M. in St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 East Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Eric Mueller will officiate.

Larry Donny Peeples

Norwalk, Ohio - Larry Donny Peeples, Sr., 59, of Norwalk, Ohio, died Sunday, May 30, 2010 in his home. He was born February 28, 1951 in Haywood, Tennessee to the late Eddie and Fanneva (Trotter) Peeples and came to this area in 2008 from Cleveland, Ohio.
Larry was a former employee of Smeller's Aluminum Foundry of Cleveland, Ohio, Midland Foundry of Cleveland, Ohio, Columbia Vise Co. of Cleveland, Ohio, and most recently of Baker Steel Company of Cleveland, Ohio. He enjoyed hunting and visiting with family and friends.
Larry is survived by his sons and daughters in law, Darwin D. Marshall of Norwalk, Ohio, Carlos R. and Jennifer Peeples of Norwalk, Ohio, Tio D. Peeples of Norwalk, Ohio, and Larry D. and Ashley Peeples of Norwalk, Ohio, 10 grandchildren, and by his former wife, Arleda Carter of Norwalk, Ohio. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters in law, James W. and Emma Peeples of Brownsville, Tennessee and Earl and Polly Peeples of Sacramento, California and by his sisters, Josephine Somerville of Memphis, Tennessee and Zora McKinney of Duck Hill, Mississippi and several nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry W. Peeples.
There will be no calling hours. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio is in charge of arrangements.

Charles D. Davis

Norwalk, Ohio - Charles D. Davis, 81, of Norwalk, Ohio died Sunday, June 6, 2010 in Fisher-Titus Medical Center. He was born May 10, 1929 in Mannington, West Virginia to the late Ira P. and Anna G. (Thompson) Davis and came to this area in 1960 from West Virginia.
Charlie was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post of Wellington, Ohio. Charlie was a former employee of Ford Motor Company of Lorain, Ohio. He began his Postal Career as a clerk in the Wellington Post Office where he became Postmaster. He was then Postmaster in Norwalk, Wakeman, and retired as Postmaster of Milan Post Office. After retirement from the Postal Service he was a Park Ranger for the Norwalk Park and Recreation Department and was a dealer deliveryman for Motor Corp. and Don Tester Ford of Norwalk, Ohio. Charlie enjoyed playing cards, the companionship of his dogs and was a long time horseman.
The love of his life was his family, especially enjoying time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Karen A. (Harshberger) Davis of Norwalk, Ohio and by his children, Charles D. and Jean Davis, Jr. of North Olmstead, Ohio and Kathy A. Davis and John Passafiume of Wellington, Ohio, Scott M. and Laura M. Hipp of Norwalk, Ohio, Christine M. and Daniel Pugh of Berlin Heights, Ohio, and Cynthia J. and Ronnie Ritter of Norwalk, Ohio. Charlie is also survived by his grandchildren, Rob, Laura, Matthew, Michael, Adam, Jordan, Ayla, Janessa, Jacob, Jayden, Jared, and Piper, and by his sister, Nell Schaffer of Wheeling, West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty L. Davis in 1985, by his sisters, Mildred Hazlett and Juanita Beaver, and by his brothers, William and Robert Davis.
Friends may call on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio where funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Charles Jarvis and Rev. Frank Kehres will officiate. Interment will be in St. Paul Catholic cemetery, Norwalk, Ohio.

Evelyn A. Jackson

Norwalk, Ohio - Evelyn A. Jackson, 81, of Norwalk, Ohio, died Saturday, June 5, 2010 in her home. She was born October 24, 1928 in Huron, Ohio to the late Edwin E. and Lilly B. (Zahner) Knott and lived in this area most of her life.
Evelyn was a homemaker and enjoyed puzzle books and watching Big Time Wrestling on T.V. She is survived by her children, Charles LeRoy Jenkins of Medina, Ohio, William Edwin Jenkins of Texas, Paul Douglas Jenkins of Lorain, Ohio, Benjamin Franklin Jenkins of Clarksfield, Ohio, Terry Lynn Jenkins, Barbara Ann Krick of Highland, Michigan, Carol Jean Knipl of Norwalk, Ohio, Rosemary Lee Slone of Horsburg, Kentucky, Bonita Hindel of Dresden, Ohio, Beatrice Kay Drapper of Wellington, Ohio, Geraldine Jackson of Norwalk, Ohio, and by her step children, Wayne Jackson, Jr. of Norwalk, Ohio, Patty Jackson of Cleveland, Ohio, Margaret Slagle of Norwalk, Ohio, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Evelyn is also survived by her brothers, Harold Knott of Norwalk, Ohio, Edwin Knott of Clarksfield, Ohio, Frank Knott of Wakeman, Ohio and Alan Michael Knott of Norwalk, Ohio and by her sisters, Nina Pruschinski of Greenwich, Ohio, Roberta Turrell of Norwalk, Ohio and Shirley Carmona of Bonita Springs, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Wayne Jackson in 2005, by her sister, Juanita Caskey, by her step children, Linda Nunes and Mary Elaine McDonald, and by three grandsons and one great grandson.

Helen Ann (Vogus) Landoll

Norwalk, Ohio - Helen Ann (Vogus) Landoll, 97, of Norwalk, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010 in Norwalk Memorial Home. She was born March 12, 1913 in Norwalk, Ohio to the late Alphonsus and Catherine (Lawrence) Vogus and was a lifelong area resident.
She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, the Creative Craft Club, and the Early Bird Bowling Team at Maple Leaf Lanes. She was a student at St. Alphonsus School and St. Paul High School. Helen was a former employee of Norwalk Upholstery (Norwalk Furniture), Mary Lee Candy Company (Fannie Farmer Candy), and had done housekeeping for others in the community. She enjoyed bowling, cooking, canning, baking, playing cards, cross stitching, knitting, crocheting, fishing and bingo.
She is survived by her sons and daughters in law, Robert C. and Janis Landoll of Norwalk, and Kenneth E. and Brenda Landoll, of Monroeville. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Peter Landoll whom she married June 6, 1936, and by her brothers Roy Vogus, Howard Vogus, Vincent Vogus, Clarence Vogus, Ambros Vogus and Anthony Vogus. Friends may call on Friday April 30, 2010 from 9:00 A.M. until 10:00 A.M. in Walker Funeral Home 98 West Main St. Norwalk, Ohio. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 A.M. in St. Paul Catholic Church 91 East Main St. Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Frank Kehres will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Paul cemetery.

Carol A. Germond

Norwalk, Ohio - Carol A. Germond, 69, of Norwalk, Ohio, died Sunday, May 16, 2010. She was born July 5, 1940 in Norwalk, Ohio to the late Carl H. and Mildred M. (Berner) Heyman and had lived in this area most of her life and had lived in Piqua, Ohio from 1964 to 1975.
Carol was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church where she was a former Sunday School Teacher and was a member of the Christian Day Nursery School Board, served on church council and was head of the Altar Guild. She was a 1958 graduate of Norwalk High School. She received her Bachelor's Degree from Capital University and received her Master's Degree in Primary Education in 1989 from Ashland College. Carol's first job was in Whitehall Public Schools and then taught in Piqua Public Schools. Most of her teaching career was in Norwalk Public Schools at Benedict, Pleasant, and Maplehurst, she retired and received the Teacher of the Year Award in 2000.
She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, the Town and Country Garden Club, the Heyman Historial Society, was a volunteer for Christie Lane Schools, and was a member of the Sandusky Choral Society. Carol was a member of a pioneer Huron County family and enjoyed music traveling and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughters and son in law, Kathryn L. and Kenneth Smith of Norwalk, Ohio and Elizabeth A. Osborn of Norwalk, Ohio and by her grandchildren, Chris Smith, Cortney Smith, Cara Smith, Austin Smith, Aimee Smith and Alexandria Osborn.
Carol is also survived by her brother and sister in law, Charles E. and Justine Heyman of Beaufort, South Carolina, and by her nieces, Kristen and Lee Rubenstein of Newman, Georgia and Cortney and Mike McNerney of San Luis Obispo, California.
Friends may call on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 6:30 P.M. in St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 243 Benedict Avenue, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Fred Wiechers will officiate.
