Charles Wright Peckham, Jr.

Charles Wright Peckham, Jr., of 115 Norwood Avenue, Norwalk, Ohio, passed away June 1, 2010.
He was born January 27, 1933 in Norwalk, the son of the late Charles and Mary Jane (Jerry) Peckham. He graduated from Norwalk High School in 1950 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Denison University in 1955. He married Mary (“Molly”) Crane in 1955.
As a boy, he was fascinated with airplanes and flight, and he became a pilot and Captain in the United States Air Force. During his military service, he flew the T-6 trainer, the B-25, and the T-29 Convair. He was the owner of Perfected Paint, Appliance and Furniture, a business founded by his father and Alan Angell. He managed the business at 30 West Main Street in Norwalk for over 40 years, retiring in 1997.
Charlie was an outstanding golfer, well known in the area for nearly 60 years. Among his many accomplishments, he was Club Champion in 1953, 1970, 1972, 1980 and runner-up six times at Norwalk Elks Golf Course. He continued to play at Eagle Creek Golf Course, winning both A-Flight Champion and Senior Champion in 2008. He had a deep passion for the game of golf and he treasured its many challenges, his wide array of playing partners, and opportunities to help others to improve their golf skills. Charlie Peckham was among the first four people to receive the Eagle Creek Memorial Honorary Starter Award in 2009.
Charlie was an avid book reader, especially enjoying W.E.B. Griffin novels and hundreds of instructional books regarding the game of golf. He was a long-time member of the Norwalk Elks Lodge 730 and he was also a Charter Member of the Norwalk Rotary Club.
He is survived by Molly, his wife of nearly 55 years; by his sons and their wives: Charles (Rick) and Anne Peckham of Needham, MA; George and Gillian Peckham of Mercer Island, WA; and by his three grandsons: Aaron Charles and David Wright Peckham of Needham, MA; and Samuel Crane Peckham of Mercer Island, WA.
A gathering of friends and family to celebrate Charlie’s life is planned for Sunday, June 20 from 1-3 PM at Eagle Creek Golf Club, Norwalk, OH. Private interment, with immediate family members, will take place at Woodlawn cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Lane, Sandusky, OH 44870. Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, OH is in charge of arrangements.

Howard P."Bart" Barman

Norwalk, Ohio - Howard P."Bart" Barman, 83, of Norwalk, Ohio, died peacefully, Tuesday, April 27, 2010, in his home surrounded by his family. He was born April 30, 1926 in Norwalk, Ohio to the late Carl and Emma (Adelman) Barman and was a lifelong area resident.
Bart was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in W.W. II and was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. He was employed by Contractor Gene Esker of Norwalk as a young man and was then employed with the 7-Up Bottling Company for 40 years, where he made many longtime friends and wonderful memories, retiring in 1985. Bart was a hard working, devoted, husband and father and greatly enjoyed time with his family. He also loved music, gardening, and fishing. Bart enjoyed food and cooking all of his families favorite dishes. He also enjoyed spending endless hours in his workshop creating and building projects for all to enjoy. His talents were endless and his passions well shared. Bart was an avid sports fan of the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians.
Left to cherish his memory are his son and daughter in law, Ted and Joan Barman of Maumee, Ohio and by his daughters and sons in law, Deborah and Donald Smith of Norwalk, Paula Nardecchia of Norwalk, Bernadette and Terrance (T.J.) Miller of Lakeland, Minnessota, and Kathleen and Peter Roche of Columbus, Ohio. He is also the proud grandfather of Jennifer and David Bierhup, Neal and Nicci Barman, Michael Smith, Angela McNatt, Michelle Smith, Ben, Sam, Kim and Joe Miller, Craig Nardecchia and Kalleen Scherer and Robb Nardecchia and 10 precious great grandchildren, and several brothers and sisters in law. Bart was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Carmelita (Gruhlke) Barman and by his brothers, Robert and Donald Barman of Norwalk, Ohio, his sister, Bernadette Meyer of Maumee, Ohio, by his beloved grandson, Tony Nardecchia, and several brothers and sisters in law.
Friends and family may call on Sunday, May 2, 2010 from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 3, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. in St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 East Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Frank Kerhes will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice Service, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870 or to the donor's favorite charity.

Jeanne L. (Windau) Kramer

Norwalk, Ohio - Jeanne L. (Windau) Kramer, 92, of Norwalk, Ohio, died Monday, May 10, 2010 in Gaymont Nursing Center. She was born July 22, 1917 in Sandusky, Ohio to the late Eugene F. and Hildagarde (Riedy) Windau and came to Norwalk, Ohio in 1951.
Jeanne was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and the Women of St. Paul. She was also a member of the Daughters of Isabella and the John Birch Society. Jeanne was a former St. Paul Elementary School teacher, farm wife and mother. She enjoyed reading, gardening and genealogy.
Jeanne is survived by her daughter, Betty Jeanne Kramer, SND of Waterville, Ohio and by her sons and daughters in law, Anthony R. and Lynn (Johnson) Kramer of San Antonio, Texas, Eugene C. and Deborah (Stacey) Kramer of Norwalk, Ohio, Roger J. and Amy (Semonin) Kramer of West Salem, Ohio, Michael J. and Linda (Murray) Kramer of Milan, Ohio and James P. and Susan (Landoll) Kramer of Norwalk, Ohio, 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by her brothers and sister in law, Albert Windau of Sandusky, Ohio and Roland and Marge Windau of Castalia, Ohio and by her sister and brother in law, Lois and Karl Moll of Sandusky, Ohio. Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Kramer in 2004, by her granddaughter, Lena Kramer in 2001, by her sister, Rita Windau and by her sister in law, Audrey Windau.
Friends may call on Thursday, May 13, 2010 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio, where prayer services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, May 14, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. in St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 East Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Frank Kehres will officiate, Rev. Alfred Camp will concelebrate. Interment will be in St. Paul cemetery.

Kenneth G. Gilbert

Wakeman, Ohio - Kenneth G. Gilbert, 62, of Wakeman, Ohio, died Friday, May 14, 2010 in his home. He was born April 11, 1948 in Norwalk, Ohio and lived in this area most of this life.
Ken was a concrete finisher and former employee of Dauch Concrete of Norwalk, Ohio and Reese Riley Construction Company in Indiana. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and baseball.
Ken is survived by his son, Timothy Gilbert of Marblehead, Ohio, by his mother, Beverly Gilbert of Milan, Ohio and 5 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister and brother in law, Marti and Bob Welch of Wakeman, Ohio, by his brothers, David Gilbert of Berlin Heights, Ohio, Michael Gilbert of Milan, Ohio, and James Gilbert of Wakeman, Ohio, and by his good friend and fishing buddy, Tim Cooper. Ken was preceded in death by his father, Wendell Gilbert in 1982, by his brother, Timothy Gilbert in 1969, by his maternal grandparents, Clarence and Geraldine Gover, and by his paternal grandparents, Frank and Edna Gilbert.
There will be no calling hours. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio is in charge of arrangements.

Michael S. Blue

Norwalk, Ohio - Michael S. Blue, 62, of Norwalk, Ohio and formerly of Fremont, Ohio, died Saturday, April 17, 2010 in his home. He was born March 5, 1948 in Tiffin, Ohio and came to Norwalk in 2008 from Fremont, Ohio.
Michael was a member of the United Church of Christ in Fort Seneca, Ohio. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Vietnam where he received the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal and was a member of the National American Legion. Michael was a former employee of the Crown Battery Company in Fremont, Ohio and also had worked at Echrich Co. in Fremont, Ohio. He enjoyed collecting glass turtles.
Michael is survived by his daughter and son in law, Jennifer and Thomas Coleman of Fremont, Ohio and by his grandsons, Grant and Derick Coleman. He is also survived by his father, Myron Blue of Tiffin, Ohio and by his brothers and sisters in law, Roger and Elaine Blue of Old Fort, Ohio and Marshall and Marcia Blue of Norwalk, Ohio and by his sister and brother in law, Brenda and Daryl Stover of Tiffin, Ohio. Michael was preceded in death by his wife Patricia "Teta" Blue in 2006 and by his mother, Lena I. (Mellott) Blue in 2005. There will be no calling hours. Private graveside services will be held in the Lindsey cemetery, Lindsey, Ohio. Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio is in charge of arrangements.

Kathryn M. "Kay" Penrose

Norwalk, Ohio - Kathryn M. "Kay" Penrose, 84, of Norwalk, Ohio, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010 in her home. She was born July 6, 1925 in Willard, Ohio to the late John and Mary Teglovic and was a lifelong area resident.
Kay was a Poll worker for the Huron County Board of Elections for many years and was the first secretary treasurer for the Lefty Grove Baseball League. She was the former station manager for WLKR Radio of Norwalk, Ohio where she hosted the "Miss Kay" Cooking Show. Kay and her late husband, Robert, were the resident managers of Garfield House Apartments in Norwalk, Ohio for 44 years.
She is survived by her sons and daughters in law, Robert A. and Nancy Penrose of Huron, Ohio and Tome E. and Cindy Penrose of Elyria, Ohio, by her grandchildren, Jason, Justin, Shane, Sean and Shanta, and by her great grandchildren, Caden, Christian, Alex, Ben, Taylor and Emma. Kay is also survived by her brother, Steve Teglovic of Greely, Colorado, and by her sister, Mary Jane Carpenter of Willard, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Penrose in 2001. There will be no calling hours or service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Huron County Humane Society, 246 Woodlawn Avenue, Norwalk, Ohio 44857. Lois E. Blystone

Norwalk, Ohio - Lois E. Blystone, 75, of Norwalk, Ohio, died Friday, June 11, 2010 in her home. She was born September 11, 1934 in Venice, Ohio to the late Jesse and Nellie V. (Stout) McCreery and came to this area in 1966 from Castalia, Ohio.
She was a member of the New Covenant Light House Church and was a former employee of Periodical Publishing Co. of Sandusky, Ohio and Norstat of Norwalk, Ohio. Lois enjoyed playing bunko, crafting, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daugther, Cheryl Blystone of Norwalk, Ohio, by her sons and daughter in law, David Blystone, Sr. of Norwalk, Ohio and Timothy and Laura Blystone of Norwalk, Ohio, by her step-sons and daughters in law, Kenneth and Jenny Blystone of Norwalk, Ohio and Steven and Carolyn Blystone, also of Norwalk, Ohio, 17 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Lois in also survived by her brother, Clair McCreery of Sandusky, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank L. Blystone in 2005, by her son, Dana Blystone, by her brothers, Clayton, Ronald, Cleo, and Earl and by her sisters, Marguerite, Ruth and Joyce. Friends may call on Monday, June 14, 2010 from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio where funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Kenneth Blystone will officiate. Interment will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, Ohio.

Douglas Mark Houston

Douglas Mark Houston, 71, of Manor Care Nursing Home, Mayfield Heights, Ohio, died Tuesday, February 23, 2010 after a long illness. He was born in Mansfield, Ohio March 4, 1938 and graduated from Union High School in June of 1956.
After graduation he joined the U.S. Army Reserves, completing his basic training at Ft. Knox, Kentucky. Immediately thereafter he attended Ohio State University followed by graduation from the Cleveland Broadcasting School. He spent his career in Radio in Dover, and New Philadelphia, Ohio before moving to New Washington, Ohio to manage the White Furniture Company. He then worked in the Ohio Restaurant Association briefly before working at the Radio Station WYKL 98.7 F.M. in Crestline, Ohio. Due to his illness with heart disease and diabetes he moved to Jacksonville Florida where he spent his remaining years with family and finally coming back to Ohio for immediate medical care at Manor Care in Mayfield Heights, Ohio.
He is survived by his mother, Edith Reid Houston of Chesapeake, Va. and Louisville, Ky., by four children, Mark C. Houston of Plantation, Florida, Stephanie K. Houston, of Boston, Ma., D. Edward Houston of Bluffton, S.C., and Michael R. Houston (Lisa) of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, one granddaughter, Annabell Houston, Plantation, Fl., two sisters, Judy H. Handmaker (Ken) of Louisville, Ky, and Elizabeth A. Statzer (Wayne) of Chesapeake, Va., two nieces, Elizabeth A. Noonan (Richard) of Lexington, Ky., Margaret H. Adams of Louivsille, Ky, three nephews, James E. Adams II (Kathi) of Madisonville, Ky,, Staff Sgt. Seth H. Statzer, United States Air Force, (Erin) of Spokane Wa., W. Drew Statzer, Richmond Va., and five great nieces. Sarah Noonan, Allison and Natalie Statzer, Edie, and Kate Adams, and one great nephew, R.Reid Noonan.
Funeral services will be held at Mt. Olivet cemetery, Olivesburg, Ohio, on May 15, 2010 to allow family members to return to Ohio to celebrate his life where six generations of Houston's are interred. Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio is in charge of arrangements.

Arthur J. Holmer

Norwalk, Ohio - Arthur J. Holmer, 84, of Norwalk, Ohio, died Tuesday, August 31, 2010 in Gaymont Nursing Center. He was born August 31, 1926 in Attica, Ohio to the late John W. and Rosina Frisch Holmer and came to this area in 1952 from Attica, Ohio.
Arthur was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Eagles Aerie #711, the Bronson Norwalk Conservation Club and was a social member of Firelands Post #2743 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He retired from Columbia Gas of Ohio in 1990 after 30 years of service. Arthur enjoyed trap and skeet shooting, hunting, fishing, gardening and canning and farming, and playing Euchre.
He is survived by his sons and daughters in law, Laurence and Linda Holmer of Norwalk, Ohio, James Holmer of Cape Coral, Florida, Gary and Laurie Holmer of Norwalk, Ohio and John and Heather Holmer of Waterford, Michigan and by his son in law, David Burdge of Cape Coral, Florida. Arthur is also survived by his daughters and sons in law, Sandra and Otto Geist of New London, Ohio, Diane Holmer of Norwalk, Ohio, Alice and Bart Ebinger of Milan, Ohio, and Angela and Rollie Bovia of Norwalk, Ohio, 18 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and by his sister, Mary Falter of New Washington, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude in 2006, by his daughter, Patricia Burdge in 2008 and by his brothers, Linus, Urban and Bernard and by his sisters, Martha Reinhart and Dolores Herner.
Friends may call on Thursday, September 2, 2010 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio where prayer services will be held at 3:30 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 3, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. in St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Rev. William Pifher will officiate. Interment will be in St. Alphonsus cemetery.
