Kenneth Gene Korns, 59, of North Myrtle Beach, SC, and formerly of Dover, died March 23, 2006.

Born January 13, 1947 in Dover, Kenny was the son of the late John A. & Mary Alesiano Korns.

Many years ago, he was employed by the former Kroger's grocery in New Philadelphia as a clerk. He had also owned the former Sylvester's Bar in Tuscarawas. Most recently, Kenny had been working in a tobacco retail store.

He was a 1965 graduate of Dover High School who was interested in a variety of crafts as well as painting. In his youth, he enjoyed riding horses.

Kenny proudly served his country in the Army and was a member of the Tuscarawas VFW.

Surviving family members include: two sisters, Linda (Roy) Dessecker of New Philadelphia and Sandy (Richard) Hisrich of Dover; one of his special friends, Jennifer Heathcock of New Philadelphia; nieces and nephews, Linda (John) Welfley, Sherri (Brian) Reamy, Jerry (Cindy) Hisrich, Thad (Pam) Dessecker, Todd (Stacey) Dessecker; several great-nieces and great nephews; and his beloved dog, Buddy.

Kenny's body has been cremated. A public memorial service that celebrates his life will be held Saturday, April 15, at 10:30 a.m. in the Holmes United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia. Pastors Dode Overton and Roger Warnes will officiate. His ashes will be buried in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens during ceremony on Wednesday, April 19 at 10:30 a.m.

The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to a memorial fund in Kenny's name at First Federal Community Bank, 321 N. Wooster Ave., Dover.

The arrangements are under the care and direction of the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover.

E. Eileen Espenschied
Born in Kimbolton, Ohio on Jan. 20, 1923

E. Eileen Espenschied, 83, of Dover, Ohio died Thursday, April 6, 2006 in the New Dawn Health Care Center following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

Born January 20, 1923 in Kimbolton, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Minnie Smith Britton.

Eileen formerly worked for the Day Care Center at the First United Methodist Church in Dover.

She was a member of the Dover Bible Church in Dover and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale W. Espenschied who died January 16, 1993.

She is survived by three sons and a daughter; William D. 'Bill' (Sherry) Espenschied of Bolivar, Thomas R. 'Tom' (Donna) Espenschied of Titusville, Florida, Richard A. 'Rick' (Becky) Espenschied of Strasburg and Nancy Raber of Dover; twelve grandchildren, Erin, Emily, Megan, Ellen, Johanna, Albert, Shannon, Kevin, and Melissa Espenschied and Alexis, Brant, and Christian Raber; and one sister, Marcel Conaway of Toledo.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Britton.

Funeral services will be held Monday, 10, 2006 at 11 a.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover with Rev. Kenneth Hutchinson officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 4-6 p.m

Memorial contributions may be made to the Dover Bible Church, 4173 Minard Rd. NW, Dover, Ohio 44622 to be used for missions.

Robert H. Laughlin
Born in Roseville, Ohio on February 27, 1935

Robert H. 'Bob' Laughlin, Sr., 71, of Dover, died Friday, March 31, 2006 following a short period of illness.

Born February 27, 1935 at Roseville, he was the son of the late Loren & Margaret Pierce Laughlin.

Bob was a hard worker, who spent the bulk of his years in the grocery business. He served as a manager for several Big Bear groceries between 1957 and 1970, having been relied upon to oversee operations in Marietta, Huntington, WV, Columbus, Bridgeport and St. Clairsville all before moving to the area in 1965 to manage the new Harts department store and Big Bear grocery in New Philadelphia. It was at that first store in Marietta back in 1957 where he was taken by a female co-worker. Six months later produce clerk Barbara Warman became his wife. The two had been inseparable since.

His life was devoted to his family, and his belief in working hard left him precious little free time. But when time permitted, Bob also had a passion to be out on the golf course. In fact, for more than ten years, he has been a groundskeeper and starter at Green Valley Golf Club in New Phila.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Dover and proudly served his country from 1955-57 in the Army.

In addition to his wife of 47 years, Barbara Warman Laughlin, Bob is also survived by a son Robert 'Rob' Laughlin, Jr. of Sugarcreek and his fiance' Tracy, as well as two grandson, Justin and Joshua.

Along with his parents, a brother, Samuel, also precedes him in death.

A ceremony that celebrates Bob's life will be conducted Tuesday at 10:30am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover with Rev. Jim Lewis officiating. Entombment will be in the Garden of Peace Mausoleum at Dover Burial Park, where the Dover VFW will conduct military honors. A luncheon will then follow in the Grace Lutheran Church fellowship hall.

Friends may call in the funeral home on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Masonic services will be at 6:45 p.m. on Monday.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to either: Grace Lutheran Church, 216 N. Wooster Ave., Dover, or to the American Cancer Society, 201 A Ohio Ave., Dover.

Betty M. Waldick
Born in Dover, Ohio on October 22, 1919
Departed on March 29, 2006 and resided in Dover, OH.

Betty M. Waldick, 86, of 501 S. James St., Dover, Ohio died Wednesday, March 29, 2006 in Union Hospital following a brief illness.

Born October 22, 1919 in Dover, she was the daughter of the late Henry John and Edna Morgan Waldick.

Betty was an employee of the former Dover Laundry and former Downtown Restaurant in Dover.

She was a member of the Dover VFW Auxiliary, Red Hat Society, and loved spending time at the Tuscarawas County Senior Center. She was a former member of the Dover Moose and Eagles Auxiliaries and enjoyed reading.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews; Lyndal (Ed) Davis of Pickerington, Jeff Bott of Strasburg, Mike (Patty) Bott of Dover, Tim Bott of Zoar, Emmy (Dave) Morgan of Clinton, Jane Simmers of New Philadelphia, Bob (Eileen) Waldick of Texas and Connie (Dale) Masin of Tipp City. She is also survived by her brother in law, Bill Bott of Reynoldsburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carol Bradford Bowers three sisters, Edna Bucher, Wilma Zuchegno, and Martha Bott and a brother, Herman (Bo) Waldick.

A graveside service honoring Betty will be held Monday, April 3, 2006 at 12:30 pm in the Maple Grove cemetery in Dover with Pastor Jim Borton officiating. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Monday from 11 a.m. to Noon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tuscarawas County Senior Center, 425 Prospect St., Dover, Ohio 44622

Paul J. Scherer
Born in Strasburg, Ohio on February 18, 1914
Departed on March 25, 2006 and resided in Dover, OH.

Paul J. Scherer, 92, of Dover, Ohio joined his dearest, Kay on Saturday, March 25, 2006.

Paul was a retired carpenter for J.A. Raeder Construction Company and had previously worked with his father and brother in the H.E. Scherer & Sons Construction Company at Strasburg. He along with his wife, Kay also operated the former Scherer's Sweet Shoppe in New Philadelphia.

Born February 18, 1914 in Strasburg, Ohio, he was the son of the late Harry and Nettie Drescher Scherer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Kathleen R. 'Kay' (Keppler) Scherer, a son, Bob Scherer, a brother, Donald F. Scherer and a sister, Vera Davis.

Paul was an active member of the St. John's United Church of Christ at Dover where he had served as an elder, Sunday school teacher, and was a choir member for many years. He was also a Life member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Dover Elks Lodge and served as Master of Ceremonies of the many former Elks Minstrels. He recently received his 50 yr. award as a Mason having been a member and Worshipful Master of the Tuscarawas F&AM; #59 at Dover. He was a charter member of the Dover Jaycees, Founding member of the Strasburg Dramatic Club, and was a member of the SPEBSQSA Barbershop Chorus. He was a talented musician which included singing, playing the piano and ukulele, and had recently started to learn to play the trombone. He was also a founding member of the Little Theater of Tuscarawas County and was a lead in Rainmaker and Sound of Music. He also enjoyed entertaining at the Hennis Care Centre. He also loved performing with his family in a quartet for many years. He was a devoted husband and father and loved traveling 46 of the 50 states with his wife, Kay.

Paul was a graduate of Strasburg High School and served in the U.S. Navy as part of the 17th battalion or Sea Bees in Saipan. In June of 1944, Paul constructed buildings by day and performed music for the troops at night.

He is survived by his daughter, Margaret Ann Brunner and her husband, Don Maurer of Dover and his son, Skip and wife, Kitty Scherer of North Canton; five grandchildren, Matt (Janice) Brunner of Bloomington, Indiana, Marc (Libby) Brunner of Canal Winchester, Nathan Putzier of Washington D.C., Katiann and Katrina Scherer of North Canton; three great grandchildren, Kyler and Kaden Brunner of Bloomington and Maxton Brunner of Canal Winchester and his sister in law, Anna Mae Keppler of Dover.

A funeral service celebrating Paul's life will be held Friday, March 31, 2006 at 1pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover with Pastor Dan Schaefer officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park where the Dover VFW will conduct military graveside services. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-8 p.m.

Atty. John L. Woodard
Born in Uhrichsville, Ohio on October 16, 1916

Atty. John L. Woodard, 89, of Dover, Ohio died Wednesday, March 22, 2006 in his home as the result of a sudden cardiac arrest.

Born October 16, 1916 in Uhrichsville, Ohio, he was the son of the late Clancy and Melissa Simpson Woodard.

John was a practicing attorney in Dover for over 66 years. He was recognized by the Ohio Bar Association for 65 years of practice in 2005. He was also the former Solicitor for the City of Dover and served on the 97th General Assembly of the House of Representatives.

John was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Dover where he previously served as Treasurer. He was also a life member of the Dover Kiwanis Club, Tuscarawas F&AM; #59 in Dover, member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board, Tuscarawas County Senior Citizens, Board of the Dover Public Library, Atwood Yacht Club, Ohio State Bar Assn., and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. John was a 1934 graduate of Uhrichsville High School. He received his law degree from Ohio State University in 1940. He remained an avid Ohio State fan. He also served in the U.S. Navy. He received the Distinguished Service Citation from the American Lawyers Quarterly. He was also a Dover Tornado fan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Cooper Woodard who died April 2, 2000.

John is survived by his son, Jack Woodard of Columbus and daughter, Marsha Sue (Phil) Daniels of Gahanna; five grandchildren, Mark (Aurea) Daniels, Corey Daniels, Brian (Dasha) Daniels, Erin (Michael)Sujka-Ossman and Scott (Mary) Bonner;two great grandchildren, Sophia and Mallory Daniels. He is also survived by a sister, Libby (Paul) Stearns of Pickerington.

A service celebrating John's life will be held Saturday, March 25, 2006 at 10:30 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover with Pastor Larry Black officiating. Entombment will be in the Garden of Peace Mausoleum at Dover Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday (today) from 5-8pm.

Ruth I. Harding
Born in Strasburg, Ohio on June 30, 1922

Ruth I. Harding, 83, of Funk Rd. N.W., New Philadelphia, Ohio died Sunday, March 19, 2006 in Amberwood Manor following a period of declining health.

Ruth was a Registered Nurse having retired from Massillon City Hospital. She was also a former missionary in Africa and New Mexico.

Born June 30, 1922 in Strasburg, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Guy and Christina Yackey Harding.

Ruth was a member of the Crooked Run United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia and a former member of the Massillon United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of the Massillon City Hospital School of Nursing. She enjoyed playing the piano, reading and sewing.

She is survived by two sisters, Doris Stucky of New Philadelphia and Mary West of Dalton along with several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, June Specht and Martha Harstine and three brothers, Warren, Don and Raymond (Gene) Harding.

Private family graveside services will be held Saturday in the Grandview Union cemetery at Strasburg.

A public memorial service honoring Ruth's life will be held Sunday, April 9, 2006 at 2pm in the Faith United Methodist Church in Dover with Pastor George Reichman officiating.

Laura Major Morrow
Born in New Philadelphia, Ohio on Jul. 12, 1912

Laura E. (Major) Morrow, 93, of 244 Fair Ave. N.E., New Philadelphia, Ohio died Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at Beacon Point in Uhrichsville, Ohio following a brief illness.

She retired in 1977 from Union Hospital in Dover where she worked for seventeen years.

Born July 12, 1912 in New Philadelphia, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Louis H. and Jessie Mae Patterson Stechow.

Laura was the oldest living member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia and was a former member of the Blue Star Mothers.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, David W. Major who died January 25, 1968 and her second husband, George W. Morrow who died in 1993.

Laura is survived by two sons David R.(Christina) Major of Dover and Robert W. Major of Fowler, Ohio; a granddaughter, Kristy Tidrick of Stone Creek and a brother, Paul R.(Jane) Stechow of Burlington, Kentucky.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Midred Griffith and two brothers, Maynard W. Stechow and Robert H. Stechow.

Pastor Kelly Brown will officiate funeral services celebrating Laura's life on Saturday, December 31, 2005 at 11 a.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia. Interment will be in the Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5-8 p.m
