Earl I. Lirot
(1916- 2005)
Earl I. Lirot, 89, of Bryan, died early Friday morning, May 27, 2005. at his residence.
Born March 9, 1916, in Bryan, he was the son of Theresa (Stark) and Isadore John Lirot. On Oct. 12, 1940, he married Rose Mary Fetzer, and she survives.
Living most of his life in the Bryan community, he was retired from Aro Corporation, was a farmer and a beekeeper. He was also a founder and a builder of the Suburban Golf Course, located north of Bryan.
An active parishioner of St. Patrick Catholic Church, he was a participant in the Christening of St. Pat's new church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed winter retirement in Ft. Meade, Fla.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children, Richard (and wife, Rose) Lirot of Burbank, Ill., Mrs. Larry (Nancy) English of Westerville, and Steven (Patti) Lirot of Bryan; grandchildren Scott (Teresa) Lirot, Ted (Pam) Lirot, Mrs. Paul (Clarissa) Rigg, Colby English, Nick (Darcy) English, Joseph Lirot, Nick Stuller and Scott Stuller; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Bob (Pauline) Bloom of Stryker; brothers, John Doyle of Edgerton, Roger of Bryan, Alfred of Delphos and Walter of Defiance; many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was a grandson, Mark; brothers, Lavon and Donald, and sisters, Helen, Marie, Vivian, Charlotte and Mary.
Visitation will be Monday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 8:30 p.m. at Oberlin-Ford Funeral Home, Bryan.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Bryan, with Father Charles Ritter officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Edgerton.
Memorials may be made to the Community Hospital and Wellness Centers Hospice Program.
Kenneth E. Cole
(1920 - 2005)
WEST UNITY - Kenneth E. Cole, 85, of West Unity, died Thursday, May 26, 2005, in Harborside Healthcare of Northwest Ohio-Bryan.
The son of Alta (Trumbell) and Perd Cole, he was born in Delta on Feb. 22, 1920. On Nov. 13, 1948, he married Margaret Ann Euler, and she survives in West Unity.
He attended the Fulton Local School in AI, and then finished and graduated from Manchester High School in Manchester, Mich. in 1938. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, shortly before the attack on Pearl Harbor. He spent 29 months in the Pacific Theater, receiving the Purple Ribbon and the Bronze Star.
He was an active member of the West Unity United Methodist Church and at one time was a Sunday School teacher, Lay minister and past superintendent.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Gary (and wife, Rebecca) Cole of Addison, Mich.; a daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Patricia) Detwiler of Alvordton; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Harold (Dorothy) Black of Perrysburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Earl Lee Cole; a sister, Lue Ida Hill; and six brothers, Lawrence, Arthur, Earnest, Oliver, Russell and Robert Cole.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Hollingshead-Beck Funeral Home in West Unity.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the West Unity United Methodist Church, with Pastor Theron Diehle and Pastor Ruth Ann Scoby officiating. Burial with military rites given by the American Legion Post 669 of West Unity and the Fulton County Honor Guard, will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in the Dutch Ridge Cemetery in Delta.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Adrian Ray "Tater" Kinnison
(1925 - 2005)
BERRIEN SPRINGS, Mich. - Adrian Ray "Tater" Kinnison, 80, of Berrien Springs, died Thursday, May 19, 2005, at his residence.
Born April 14, 1925, at Yorkshire, to Osaa and Walter Kinnison, he married Barbara Jean Nichols on April 16, 1960, at Niagra Falls, Ontario, and she survives.
Moving to Edon in 1932, where he attended school, he was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Navy from June 1942 until December 1945 on the USS Saratoga C-V3.
As a 35-year active member of the American Legion, he also served as a past commander. After working on the St. Lawrence SeaWay project in New York and Pennsylvania, he worked several years as a welder on government projects in Maryland and Mississippi. He owned and operated Ray's Welding Shop in Berrien Springs since 1980.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his children, Deborah Jean Woodrick and Charles Ray (and wife, Lyn) Kinnison of Berrien Springs, Mrs. Richard (Nancy Kay) Freeman of Roxie, Miss., Stephen Michael Kinnison of Prince Frederick, Md. and Cheryl Jean Amolsch of Coldwater; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Marion (Louise) Kinnison; and sisters, Emmadale Julien, Lelamae Newman, Mrs. Omer (Rachel) Keller, Mrs. Robert (Anna Lou) Carpenter and Mrs. LeRoy (Marilyn) Held. Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, John and James; a sister, Gracia Ellen; and two brothers-in-law, George Julien and Carleton Newman.
A Celebration of Life service was held on May 23 at the St. John's Lutheran Church, Baroda, Mich. Full military rites were conducted at the Ruggles Cemetery by the American Legion Post No. 345.
John L. Clifton
(1912 - 2005)
John L. Clifton, 92, of Bryan, died Tuesday, May 24, 2005, at Harborside Healthcare of Northwestern Ohio-Bryan, where he had been a resident the past few months. Born Sept. 22, 1912, at Millcreek Township, Williams County, to Myrtle (Altaffer) and Enoch Clifton, he was married to Pauline Titus and Maureen Tuttle, and both preceded him in death.
An iron worker/welder, working out of Local 147 in Fort Wayne, Ind., where he worked on building the Allen County Memorial Coliseum. He also lived in Florida for 50 years and worked at Cape Kennedy Space Center, working on the flight hangers and also working on launch preparation devices. Surviving are six children, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles and Arthur Clifton; and two sisters, Grace Galloway and Dorothy McBride.
There will be no visitation or services. Private interment took place in Franklin Cemetery. Arrangements are by Krill Funeral Service, Bryan.
Richard "Dick" Herman
(1940 - 2005)
ANGOLA, Ind. - Richard "Dick" Herman, 64, of Angola, died Monday, May 23, 2005, at Cameron Memorial Community Hospital, Angola.
Born Aug. 1, 1940, at Bryan, Ohio, to Hazel (Guillaume) and Duane Herman, he married Janice Stackhouse on July 26, 1958, in Edon, Ohio and she survives.
A 1958 graduate of Edon High School, he was the owner of the True Value Hardware store in Angola for 35 years.
He was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Angola and a past member of the Land of Lakes Lions Club of Angola.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his parents; a daughter, Mrs. John (Debbie) Esterline of Angola; two sons, Denny (and wife, Becky) Herman of Angola and Dana (Connie) Herman of Ashley; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Dave Herman of Valhalla, N.Y., Tom Herman of Fort Wayne and Jeff Herman of Edon; and two sisters, Nancy Dunnavan of Angola and Sandy Fosler of Indianapolis.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 3-8 p.m. (Indiana Time) in the H.E. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, 108 S. West Street, Angola.
Private graveside services will be held Friday.
Memorials may be made to Rileys Children Hospital or donor's choice.
Timothy M. Dominique
(1948 - 2005)
ARCHBOLD - Timothy M. Dominique, 56, of Archbold, died Sunday, May 22, 2005, at his residence, following a brief illness.
Born Oct. 20, 1948, at Munich, Germany, to Mary (Holub) and Charles Dominique, he married Jane Newland on June 6, 1970, and she survives.
Employed by Sauder Woodworking for 29 years, having been the director of international sales for the Eastern and Western European markets, he was also the national account manager for 14 Midwestern states. Currently, he was the account manager for Archbold Container Corporation. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Archbold.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are four daughters, Mrs. Matt (Heather) Schirmer of Portland, Ore., Mrs. Sam (Emily) Rodriquez of Maumee, Mrs. Kent (Megan) Nafziger of Archbold and Morgan Dominique of Archbold; two sons, Zachary Dominique of Toledo and Alex Dominique of Archbold; and his father, Charles J. Dominique of Archbold.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Jane Dominique, and his sister, Sister Mary Timothy, O.P.
a Memorial Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Friday, June 3, at 11 a.m. in St. Peter's Catholic Church in Archbold with the Rev. Father Gary Ferguson to officiate. There will be no visitation. Interment will be private in the St. Peter Catholic Cemetery.
