James L. Strohl Sr.
(1927 - 2005)

EDON - James L. Strohl, 78, of Edon, died Sunday, May 22, 2005, at his son's home in Cooney.
Born March 22, 1927, at Homer, Ill., he was the son of Flossie M. (Wells) and George R. Strohl. A vehicle title specialist for the state of Indiana, he was also an auto salesman for Pokagon Motors in Angola, Ind. and a retired dairy farmer. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II during the occupation of Germany.
Surviving are a son, James L. Strohl Jr. of Cooney; three daughters, Jan L. Brown of Big Timber, Mont., Mrs. Peter (Dr. Karen) Clark of Waynesboro, Pa. and Mrs. David (Teresa) Waid of Bradenton, Fla.; seven grandsons, Samuel Strohl of Edon, Nathan Brown of West Unity, Douglas Brown of Montpelier, Jason Robarge of Bradenton and Steven Robarge of Bradenton, Fla., Mathew Barbour of Plano, Texas and Christopher Barbour of Waynesboro, Pa.; two granddaughters, Norene Brown of Big Timber, Mont. and Stephanie Schafer of West Unity; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Strohl of Melbourne, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 1:30 to 5 p.m. in the Northwest Twp. Building in Cooney (formerly the Old Cooney School).
Private graveside services will be held Saturday with Pastor Glen Prine to officiate. Military rites will be performed by the Edon veterans. Interment will be in Malcolm Cemetery, rural Edon.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice, The Caring Way, of Williams and Fulton Counties.

Virginia E. Nisley
(1930 - 2005)

EDGERTON - Virginia E. Nisley, 74, of rural Edgerton, died Saturday, May 21, 2005, at her residence, following an extended illness.
Born July 18, 1930, near Edgerton, to Opal (Fisher) and Estell Dietsch, she married Ned A. Nisley on July 14, 1950, in Farmer and he preceded her in death on July 7, 2000.
A graduate of Farmer High School and a press operator at Hayes Albion, she retired with over 30 years of service. She also operated Rosedale Stables and Harness Shop near Edgerton for over 40 years. She attended Trinity Bible Church in Edgerton.
Surviving are a son, Joe Nisley of Bryan; three daughters, Mrs. Alonzo (Mary) Buchs of Bryan, Cheryl Nisley of Findlay and Mrs. Walter (Rose) Carpenter of Edgerton; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Chasity Carpenter; and a brother, Lavon Dietsch.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Matt Brown to officiate. Burial will follow in Farmer Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers-Hospice.

Mary Ellen (Smith) North
(1924 - 2005)

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Mary Ellen (Smith) North died May 14, 2005 in her home in Indianapolis, Ind. after an extended illness.
She was born August 27, 1924 in Williams County. She married Carl. M. North on Dec. 5, 1948, and he survives. They moved to Terra Haute, Ind. in 1950 and to Indianapolis in 1965. She worked for a photographer at a Fort Wayne, Ind. factory during World War II and as a secretary for Allis Chalmers in Terre Haute.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Carla Jean North; three brothers, Leo Smith of Stryker, George Smith of Wauseon, Maurice (and wife, Connie) Smith of Montpelier; three sisters, Mrs. Jack (Modella) Wallace of Toledo, Mrs. Ray (Margie) Gorrell of Centerville and Mrs. Morris (Lillian) Towns of West Unity.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and four sisters.
Memorial services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the Wesley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dwight Bower to officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, www.pulmonaryfibrosis.org or St. Francis Hospice House, 1600 Albany Street, Beach Grove, Ind. 46207. Arrangements are by Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Greenwood Chapel.

Cathy Sue (Homan) Putman
(1953 - 2005)

ANTWERP - Cathy Sue (Homan) Putman, 52, of Antwerp, died Monday, May 30, 2005.
Born March 21, 1953, in Defiance to Helen (Upton) and William Homan, she married Jim Putman on Aug. 19, 1979, in Defiance, and he survives.
A 1971 graduate of Continental High School, she was employed at Allied Moulded Products in Bryan and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children, Thomas Putman of Antwerp and Mrs. Ben (Gail Sue) Hodson of Perrysburg; a brother, Bill Homan of Defiance; two sisters, Cindy Wittecar of Fort Wayne, Ind. and Mrs. Dave (Judy) Wagner of Sundance, Wyo.; two grandsons, Tyler and Dylan Hodson of Perrysburg; two nieces and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother and a sister, Nancy Homan.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. in the Burr Funeral Home and Crematory, Sherwood.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Dennis  Taylor to officiate. Burial will follow at Monroe Cemetery in Continental.
Memorials may be made to the Tyler and Dylan Hodson Educational Fund.

Arthur R. 'Art' Eutsler
(1938 - 2005)

HARROD - Arthur R. "Art" Eutsler, 67, of Harrod and formerly of Spencerville, died at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 2005, in Auglaize County following a brief illness.
Born in Van Wert County on March 3, 1938, he was the son of Easter Belle and William "Bill" Eutsler. Mr. Eutsler was a farmer and raised hogs. In 1996 he retired as a truck driver after 30 years with Roadway Express. He also was a former member of the Spencerville Invincible Fire Company.
He was formerly married to Jane Eutsler Whiting, who survives in Spencerville.
Also surviving are three daughters; a son; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister; three brothers; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Mr. Don (Diane) Allison of Bryan, Rex (Kathy) Eutsler of rural Defiance, Stanley (Kathy) Eutsler of Lorain, Gaylord (Sharon) Eutsler of Huntington, Ind., and Blace (Michelle) Glander of Edgerton.
Preceding him in death were his parents; three sisters; and four brothers, including Merle Eutsler, who was a Bryan resident.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville with the Rev. James Holbrook officiating. Burial will be in Wright Cemetery in Van Wert County.
Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Auglaize Acres Re-Hab Fund.

Lizzie F. Landel
(1911 - 2005)

EDGERTON - Lizzie F. Landel, 94, of Edgerton, died Saturday, May 28, 2005, at Park View Nursing Center, Edgerton, where she was a resident.
Born Feb. 25, 1911, in Bryan, to Wilma Virginia (Chappius) and Harry Luke, she married Earle E. Landel on Sept. 4, 1932, in Covington, Ky., and he preceded her in death on July 11, 1999. A 1928 graduate of Edgerton High School, she was a member of the Edgerton United Methodist Church, the Pearl Circle of the United Methodist Women and the Edgerton B.P.W.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Pat (Helen L.) Ryan of Edgerton, Mrs. David (Virginia M.) Sheets of Fort Wayne, Ind. and Mrs. Roger (Nancy J.) Haymond of Clearwater Beach, Fla.; two sons, Frederick J. Landel and Donald C. (and wife, Donna) Landel, both of Edgerton; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jim Luke of Bryan.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Walter, Darrell and Virgil Luke, and a sister, Gladys Yoder.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Ned Adams to officiate. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Edgerton.
Memorials may be made to the Park View Nursing Center Activity Fund or to the Edgerton United Methodist Church.

Stephen J. Simpson
(1941 - 2005)

Stephen J. Simpson, 63, of Bryan, died Friday morning, May 27, 2005, in Medical University of Ohio Hospital, Toledo, following a four-day serious illness.
Born Sept. 1, 1941, at Montpelier, to Irene Catherine (Schuck) and Charles Elbert Simpson, he was a lifelong area resident.
He was a longtime employee of the former Mohawk Tools Inc. in Montpelier, and for a number of years owned and operated the Lake Seneca Store. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Montpelier and the National Rifle Association.
Surviving are a son, John C. Simpson of Montpelier; three daughters, Rhonda Stewart of Bryan, Mrs. Robert (Carol) Penrod of Plymouth, Ind. and Lindsey Simpson of Montpelier; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Caroll Anderson of Pioneer.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
There will be no visitation and family services will be private.
Memorials may be made to the National Rifle Association or to a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements are by Wilson-Geesey Funeral Home in Montpelier.
