Joyce E. Shaw
(1928 - 2005)
HOWELL, Mich. - Joyce E. Shaw, 76, of Howell and formerly of Bryan, Ohio, died Sunday, June 5, 2005, at her residence.
Born Sept. 22, 1928, at Coldwater, Mich., to Dorothy (Lobdell) and Clarance Shafer, she married Clayton M. Shaw on Dec. 20, 1949, at Angola, Ind., and he survives.
Moving to Howell in 1969, she and her husband owned and operated Sutton's Hardware until 1987. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and also a former member of Presbyterian Womens' Association, Womens' Professional Business Association and the Eastern Star.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Mrs. Robert (Christine) Woodruff, Steven (and wife, Pam) Shaw and Douglas Shaw, all of Howell; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Jerry (Dianna) Thornburn of Redmond, Wash.; a granddaughter, Mrs. Cory (Jennifer) Byfield; a great-grandson, Troy Byfield; four stepgrandchildren and one stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers.
Visitation will be held today from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. in the MacDonald's Funeral Home in Howell.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Howell.
Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Mercy Livingston Hospice or Alzheimer's Association.
Lola Nadene Schafer
(1933 - 2005)
Lola Nadene Schafer, 72, of Bryan, died Friday afternoon, June 3, 2005, in Harborside Healthcare Center of Northwest Ohio-Bryan, where she was a resident.
Born April 22, 1933, in Kansas City, Kan., she was the daughter of Leona Belle (Dobbs) and Harry Frederick Schafer.
Surviving are one brother, Robert (and wife, Kay) Schafer, of Bryan; three sisters, Patricia Pendley of Houston, Texas, Pearl Gibson of Harrisonville, Mo., and Joyce Branch, of Topeka, Kan. She was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
There will be no visitation or services.
Private interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Edgerton.
Krill Funeral Service in Bryan is in charge of arrangements.
Ruth K. Wyse
(1903 - 2005)
PETTISVILLE - Ruth K. Wyse, 102, of Pettisville, died Saturday afternoon, June 4, 2005, at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold.
The daughter of Katherine (Rupp) and Gideon Wyse, she was born Jan. 25, 1903, in Pettisville. A lifelong Pettisville resident, she lived alone in her home until age 98, when she entered Fairlawn Haven in July 2001.
A 1925 graduate of Oberline College, with a BA in French, she taught her entire career at Pettisville High School, where she taught Latin, French, English and journalism. She was also the advisor for the school yearbook for many years.
She holds the distinction of being the first high school teacher in the Pettisville School. She was asked to teach the freshman class, which met in a Pettisville Missionary Church Sunday School classroom, while the new high school was being built.
She retired from teaching in 1972 after 43 years, and was a volunteer guide in the log school at Sauder Village near Archbold for many years.
A lifelong member of the Pettisville Missionary Church, she was also a member of Beta Zeta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international honorary society for women teachers, and served as president of the chapter for one term. She was a life member of the Fulton County Retired Teachers Association, and belonged to the State and National Retired Teachers Associations.
Surviving are two nephews, Donald (and wife, Beth) Neidhardt of Prospect, Ky. and Paul Neidhardt of Garden City, Mich.; and a niece, Arlene Neidhardt Horvath of Lake Park, Fla.
Preceding her in death were her parents; three sisters, Flossie Wyse Neidhardt, Herma Wyse Miller and Vida Blanche Wyse.
Friends may call from 1-2:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the Fairlawn Chapel.
Services will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Fairlawn Chapel, with Pastor David Dyck to officiate. Interment will follow in the Pettisville Cemetery.

Joan L. Vitek
(1937 - 2005)
MONTPELIER - Joan L. Vitek, 67, of Montpelier, died Sunday, June 5, 2005, at the Dilworth Center of Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers-Montpelier.
The daughter of Orpha (Kalb) and Wess Hartsock, she was born Oct. 7, 1937, in Noble County, Ind. On Jan. 10, 1986, she married Tony Vitek in Montpelier, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 17, 2004.
She began her working career as a telephone operator for General Telephone in both Indiana and Ohio. She also worked for the former 50 Corporation, the former Champion Molded Plastics and Higby's in Archbold. She ended her working career as a dispatcher for Preston Trucking Company, and was a member of House of Prayer in Montpelier.
Surviving are a stepdaughter, Karen J. Sims of Bryan; two stepsons, Gerry M. (and wife, Kathy) Vitek of Bryan and Randy G. (Marcia S.) Vitek of Defiance; seven stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; her mother, Orpha Hartsock; two sisters, Mrs. Don (Jane) Partee of Bryan and Mrs. Larry (Janice) Mollett of Montpelier; three brothers, Robert (Laura) Hartsock of Montpelier, Roger (Diana) Hartsock of Edon and Rodney Hartsock (and companion, Sandy Roberts) of Montpelier; several nieces and nephews; a Goddaughter, Sara Selgren of Bryan; and special friend, Pearl BaumGardner of Hamilton, Ind.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Krill Funeral Home in Bryan.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home, with Pastor Don Harris to officiate. Interment will follow in Shiffler Cemetery in rural Bryan.
Memorials may be made to the House of Prayer or to the Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers-Hospice Care.
Donna Davis
Donna Davis, 72, of Bryan, died Friday morning, June 10, 2005, at the Indianapolis Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, Ind.
Among her survivors is her husband, Melvin Davis.
Arrangements are pending at Krill Funeral Service, Bryan.
Kerry L. Cunningham
WEST UNITY - Kerry L. Cunningham, 57, of West Unity, died unexpectedly, Friday, June 10, 2005.
Among his survivors is his wife, Shirley.

Iris A. Pignataro
(1916 - 2005)
MONTPELIER - Iris A. Pignataro, 89, of Montpelier, died Friday afternoon, June 10, 2005, at Hillside Heritage Nursing Home near Bryan, where she had resided for the past five and a half year.
Born March 4, 1916, at Bridgewater Township, Williams County, to Mary Eva (Little) and Roy Joice, she married Charles J. Pignataro and he preceded her in death on Aug. 30, 1997.
A life long area resident, she was a homemaker. She was also a retired retail clerk, having been employed for several years with both the former Louden Department Store and Trautman & Son Variety Store, both of Montpelier.
For many years she had served as a precinct poll worker with the Williams County Board of Elections. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Montpelier, and the Rosary Altar Society of the church.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Bill (Shirley) Short of Montpelier; a son, Gene (and wife, Sue) Pignataro of Bronson, Mich.; six grandchildren, Rick (Lisa) Short of West Unity, Tim Short of Montpelier, Mrs. Russ (Jill) Barnd of Ney, Mrs. Dana (Patty) Viers of Montpelier, Alan (Tina) Pignataro of Lima and Diane Jagelska of Concord, Mich.; and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Joice.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Wilson-Geesey Funeral Home, Montpelier.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Montpelier. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers of Williams County or Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
