Ruth K. Wyse
(1903 - 2005)

PETTISVILLE - Ruth K. Wyse, 102, of Pettisville, died Saturday afternoon, June 4, 2005, at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold.
The daughter of Katherine (Rupp) and Gideon Wyse, she was born Jan. 25, 1903, in Pettisville. A lifelong Pettisville resident, she lived alone in her home until age 98, when she entered Fairlawn Haven in July 2001.
A 1925 graduate of Oberline College, with a BA in French, she taught her entire career at Pettisville High School, where she taught Latin, French, English and journalism. She was also the advisor for the school yearbook for many years.
She holds the distinction of being the first high school teacher in the Pettisville School. She was asked to teach the freshman class, which met in a Pettisville Missionary Church Sunday School classroom, while the new high school was being built.
She retired from teaching in 1972 after 43 years, and was a volunteer guide in the log school at Sauder Village near Archbold for many years.
A lifelong member of the Pettisville Missionary Church, she was also a member of Beta Zeta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international honorary society for women teachers, and served as president of the chapter for one term. She was a life member of the Fulton County Retired Teachers Association, and belonged to the State and National Retired Teachers Associations.
Surviving are two nephews, Donald (and wife, Beth) Neidhardt of Prospect, Ky. and Paul Neidhardt of Garden City, Mich.; and a niece, Arlene Neidhardt Horvath of Lake Park, Fla.
Preceding her in death were her parents; three sisters, Flossie Wyse Neidhardt, Herma Wyse Miller and Vida Blanche Wyse.
Friends may call from 1-2:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the Fairlawn Chapel.
Services will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Fairlawn Chapel, with Pastor David Dyck to officiate. Interment will follow in the Pettisville Cemetery.
Short Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Betty Cluff

MONTPELIER - Betty Cluff, 71, of Montpelier, died early this morning, Saturday, June 18, 2005, at the Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers-Bryan.
Arrangements are pending at Wilson-Geesey Funeral Home in Montpelier.

Anna R. Miller

ARCHBOLD - Anna R. Miller, 72, of Archbold, died Friday afternoon, June 17, 2005, at Fulton Manor Nursing Home in Wauseon.
Among her survivors is her husband, Gerald.
Arrangements are pending at Short Funeral Home in Archbold.

Ernestine B. Spangler
(1914 - 2005)

Ernestine B. Spangler, 90, of Bryan, died at her residence Friday afternoon, June 17, 2005.Ernestine B. Spangler
The daughter of Isabella (Fazackerly) and Herbert Brocklebank, she was born Sept. 15, 1914, in Toledo. On Sept. 14, 1935, she was united in marriage to Harlan G. "Bun" Spangler, and at this time she came to Bryan as a new bridge. Mr. Spangler preceded her in death in 1976.
She was a 1935 graduate of Toledo University, and was a longtime contributor to the First Presbyterian Church and was a director of youth fellowship in the mid 1950s.
For her many acts of volunteerism, she was recognized by the Bryan Area Foundation in 1986 when she was named "Good Citizen of the Year." In the late 1930s the Bryan Women's Federation decided to start a Girl Scout program and she became one of its first leaders. Later she also became a leader for a summer 4-H program.
While her husband served in World War II, Mrs. Spangler served the Red Cross making kits for overseas servicemen. As a leader of the Mother's Club she spearheaded the bond issue in 1949 to build Washington School and enlarge Lincoln School. In 1955 she again worked with many parents to urge support for a bond issue that brought the community a new high school.
She was a long-time member of Literary Forum that served as a catalyst for development of the Bryan Recreation Park in cooperation with Chamber of Commerce, when they prepared a model of the proposed Bryan Recreation Park for a National Community Achievement contest. The presentation brought awareness of the project to local residents and won an honorable mention in the state, and the park is enjoyed by thousands of people each year. Literary Forum also organized the Women's Welcome Club in 1947.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. V. Harward (Kathleen) Vashaw of Olney, Md.; three sons, Doug of Prentice, Wis., and Dean and Bruce, both of Bryan; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; five nieces; and three nephews.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, were her parents; and a sister Mrs. Florence (Maynard) Mack.
Visitation will be Sunday from 5-8 p.m. at Oberlin-Ford Funeral Home-Bryan and Monday from 11 a.m. to noon at the First Presbyterian Church.
Funeral services will be held Monday at noon at the First Presbyterian Church, with The Rev. Edward Auchard officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Lutheran Chapel Cemetery, Clear Lake, Ind. at 6 p.m. Ohio time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Harlan G. & Ernestine B. Spangler Continuing Education Scholarship Fund of the Bryan Area Foundation, SHARE Foundation of Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers, or a charity of the donor's choice.

Martha Ann Alcock
(1954 - 2005)

COLUMBUS - Martha Ann Alcock. 50, died Wednesday June 15, 2005 at Mt. Carmel East Hospital. Born Oct. 12, 1954, in Montpelier, she was the daughter of Judge Robert and Margaret Wilson.
She received her Masters and PhD from The Ohio State University and her undergraduate degree from Wittenburg University. She completed further graduate work at Stanford University.
Ms. Alcock was the Homer and Isabel Cotterman professor of educational psychology at Capital University and adjunct lecturer in graduate programs at the University of Dayton.
She was a member and held several offices in many education and psychology related associations and had won numerous teaching awards.
She is survived by her husband Barry; a stepson, Michael; her father Judge Robert (wife Irene) Wilson of Montpelier; a sister Mrs. Phil (Sarah) Schroeder of Hillard; a brother Bob (and wife Cindy) Wilson, Auburn Ind.; four nieces, Erica and Molly Wilson and Annie and Emma Schroeder; a step-sister, Susan Reese, Montpelier; step-brothers Ron (Carlene) Reese, Bryan and Scott (Debra) Reese, Montpelier; father-in-law, Al Alcock; sisters-in-laws, Wendy Latham, Mrs. Terry (Kathy) Hakeos; Mrs. Tom (Pat) Viertlbeck and brothers-in-law, John (Debbie) Farrell, all of Toledo; Tom (Martha) Farrell of Maumee; and Michael (Jill) Farrell of Ottawa Lake, Mich., and many aunts, uncles, nieces, uncles and students. She was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Wilson.
A memorial service will be held in late June at Capital University.
Arrangements are by Woodyard East Chapel, 2300 E. Livingston, Ave., Columbus.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Ronald L. Miller
(1935 - 2005)

WEST UNITY - Ronald L. Miller, 69, of rural West Unity, died Thursday morning, June 16, 2005, in his home surrounded by his family.
Born June 24, 1935, at Wauseon, to Heloise E. (Hoag) and Kenneth Miller, on Aug. 5, 1972, he married Linda S. Kuhn at Angola, Ind., and she survives.
A lifelong area resident and farmer, he was a 1953 graduate of West Unity High School. He was employed with Pet Milk Company in Bryan for 28 years until its closing, then worked with Challenge-Cook Brothers of Bryan for seven years and then Challenge Industries Inc. for 10 years until his retirement in 2000.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Rodney (and wife, Susie) Miller of Bryan and Randy (Mindy) Miller of Montpelier; four daughters, Elizabeth Graham of Atlanta, Ga., Mrs. Tobey (Lisa) Wendorf of Montpelier, Cheryl Miller and Susan Miller, both of West Unity; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Larry (Patricia
) Chamberlain of Bryan.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2-8 p.m. in Thompson Funeral Home in Montpelier.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Solid Rock Community Church in West Unity, with Pastor Michael Beasley and The Reverend Robert Waggoner officiating. Burial will be in Shiffler Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers of Williams County or The Solid Rock Community Church.

Sharon Ann Rowe
(1948 - 2005)

WALDRON, Mich. - Sharon Ann Rowe, 57, of Waldron, died Thursday, June 16, 2005, at her home.
She was born Feb. 16, 1948, in Paulding, Ohio to Ramona (Strable) and Robert Phlipot. She married Richard G. Rowe on Oct. 11, 1969, in Archbold, Ohio, and he survives.
She was previously employed at Homer Donaldson Company in Hudson.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are one daughter, Mrs. Doug (Bobbie) Posey of Stryker, Ohio; two sons, Richard A. (and wife, Maria) Rowe of Avian, Italy and Mark Avery of Pittsford; five grandchildren, Bradly Martin, Shauna, Andrea and Sam Avery and Kaitlyn Posey; her father, Robert (Evelyn) Phlipot of Paulding; her mother, Mrs. Verlin (Ramona) Barth of Defiance, Ohio; one sister, Mrs. Doug (Bunny) Talbot of Oakwood, Ohio; two brothers, John (Pat) Phlipot of Sherwood, Ohio; and Bill (Birdie) Phlipot of Defiance; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Eagle Funeral Home in Hudson.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Kim Repp officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Ransom Township.
