Dorothy M. Hamilton
(1919 - 2005)
DEFIANCE - Dorothy M. Hamilton, 85, of Defiance and previously of Farmer, died Friday, July 29, 2005, at Laurels of Defiance.
Born Aug. 17, 1919, at Monroe County, Mich., to Hilda A. (Baker) and O.B. Crampton, she married Dallas D. Hamilton on Aug. 7, 1940, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 3, 1993.
Employed as a cook at Defiance Hospital for 19 years, retiring in 1981, she previously had also helped operate the family-owned Hamilton Dairy for 22 years.
She was a member of Defiance Christian Church, formerly the First Church of Christ, Defiance. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Sue) Bonniwell of Dover, Del.; a son, James (and wife, Vicki) Hamilton of Spencerville, Ind.; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Ann Marie Deel; and a sister, Emily Kieffer.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. in the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home and Wednesday from 9-10 a.m. in the Defiance Christian Church.
Services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Defiance Christian Church, 955 Standley Rd. (corner of Ayersville Rd. and Standley Rd.) with the Rev. Steve Liming and the Rev. Bryan Maxey to officiate. Mausoleum encryptment will be at Riverview Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
Memorials may be made to the Defiance Christian Church Scholarship Fund.
Ray Eldon Patten
(1932 - 2005)
Ray Eldon Patten, 73, of Bryan, died Sunday, July 31, 2005, at the Defiance Regional Medical Center in Defiance.
Born Jan. 27, 1932, in Williams County, to Mary V. (Gore) and Ward Eldon Patten, he married Betty R. White on July 29, 1952, at Manning, S.C. and she survives.
A framer, he retired from Aro Corporation in 1976 and retired from the Williams County Courthouse in 1979 as the Soldier's and Sailor's Relief Commissioner.
He had served in the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean War, was Post Commander and a life member of American Legion Post 284 Charles E. Arnold of Bryan. He was also a member of Lodge 215 F. & A.M., Bryan Masonic Temple, the Buckeye State Sheriff's Association, a life member of the Ohio Public Employee Retirees and a member of the First Baptist Church of Bryan. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Eldon Ray (and wife, Cindy) Patten of St. Ignace, Mich.; two grandchildren, Chad Patten of Lansing, Mich. and Melissa Patten of Big Rapids, Mich.; and a brother, Wayne A. Patten of West Unity.
His parents preceded him in death.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. in the Burr Funeral Home & Crematory, Bryan.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Bryan (corner of Union Street and County Road C) with the Rev. John MacFarlane to officiate. Burial will follow in Shiffler Cemetery near Pulaski with graveside military rites provided by the Bryan American Legion.
Memorials may be made to the church.
Robert D. "Bob" Hutchinson
(1923 - 2005)
BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Robert Duane "Bob" Hutchinson, 82, of Bridgewater, Va., died Friday, July 29, 2005, at Bridgewater Home where he had been a patient for the past two months.
Born June 5, 1923, at Kunkle, Ohio, to Lottie (Fisher) and William Hutchinson, he married Dicie Lorene Michael on June 19, 1949, and she survives.
A 1941 graduate of Kunkle High School and a 1954 graduate of Bridgewater College. He had served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was vice president of the First Virginia Planters Bank, retiring after 30 years of service.
A member of the Bridgewater Church of the Brethren, he was a past Sunday school superintendent and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the Bridgewater Ruritan Club, where he had served as president and Zone Governor; Bridgewater Rotary Club and had served on the Bridgewater Town Council.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Rebecca "Becky" Powell of Bridgewater; a son, Philip (and wife, Sue) Hutchinson of Bridgewater; five grandchildren, Corey Hutchinson, Erin Hutchinson, Kent Hutchinson, Ross Powell and Hannah Powell; two sisters, Nancy Smid of Leslie, Mich. and Carol Knapp of Edon, Ohio; and two brothers, Hubert Hutchinson of West Unity, Ohio and James Hutchinson of Maumee, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Paul Hutchinson.
Visitation will be held Monday from 6-8 p.m. in the Bridgewater Church of the Brethren.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the church with the Revs. Wendell Eller and Douglas Gestwick to officiate. The Rev. Walt Crull is to conduct the graveside service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Oaklawn Cemetery, Bridgewater. Family and friends will leave the Johnson Funeral Home, Bridgewater, at 10:45 a.m. for the graveside service.

Max L. Howell
(1928 - 2005)
OSTEEN, Fla. - Max L. Howell, 77, of Osteen, Fla. and formerly of Edon, Ohio, died Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at his home in Osteen.
Born Feb. 8, 1928, at Flint, Mich., to Bethel (Lords) and Ross Ivan Howell, he married Betty Jean Hassinger on June 26, 1948, at Coldwater, Mich. and she preceded him in death on April 30, 1996. A machinist employed by Edon Machine for 14 years, he was then employed by the Marita Bakery in Florida for 20 years until his retirement. He was a World War II veteran and served in the United States Navy from 1941-1945.
Surviving are three sons, Robert (and wife, Natalie) Howell of Osteen, Fla., Cortney (Susan) Howell of Deland, Fla. and Hal Lamar (Pamela) Howell of Arlington, Texas ; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Dean (Jan) Howell of Coldwater, Mich.; a sister, Beverly DeKam of Coldwater, Mich.; and several half brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edon.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Eric Dailey to officiate. Burial will follow in the Edon Cemetery, Edon.
Alexandria Lynn Grant

WEST UNITY - Alexandria Lynn Grant, six days old, of rural West Unity, died Wednesday morning, July 27, 2005, at the Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers-Montpelier. Born July 21, 2005, she was the daughter of Kayla Grant and Tylor Neuenschwander of rural West Unity.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by maternal grandparents, Steve and Tammy (Ackley) Grant of West Unity; paternal grandparents, Rick and Kris (Snipes) Neuenschwander of Wauseon and Lisa Frye of West Unity; maternal great-grandparents, Don and Martha Ackley of Alvordton and Marlene Grant of Alvordton; paternal great-grandparents, Lowell and Velma Neuenschwander of Delta, Ruth Knierim of Napoleon, Louis and Janice Silvestro of Canton and Fred and Sylvia Frye of Adrian, Mich.; paternal great-great-grandmother, Mary Hatfield of Canton; a maternal aunt, Lindsay Grant of West Unity; a maternal uncle, Levi Grant of West Unity; five paternal uncles, Bob Neuenschwander of Lyons, Michael (and wife, Sunny) Neuenschwander of Wauseon, Brad Lantz of Fayette, Adam Lantz of Montpelier and Josh (Estela) Snipes of Wauseon; and many great-aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be held Monday from 2-3:30 p.m. in the Hollingshead-Beck Funeral Home in West Unity.
Burial and graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. in the Floral Grove Cemetery, West Unity, with Pastor Larry Snow to officiate.
Robert "Bob" June Butler
(1921 - 2005)
HAMILTON, Ind. - Robert "Bob" June Butler, 83, of Hamilton, died Friday, July 29, 2005, at St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Born Nov. 24, 1921, at Auburn, to Beatrice (Hinsey) and Ralph Butler, he married DeVonna Kalb Butler on Aug. 28, 1946, and she survives.
Retired from Renaissance Publishing and a World War II Army veteran, he was a 63 year member of Auburn American Legion Post 97, Auburn Moose, Butler Eagles and the Hamilton Fish and Game Club.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Thomas E. (and wife, Janet) Butler of Hamilton and Richard A. Butler of St. Charles, Mo.; a brother, Donald Butler of Auburn; a great-grandson, Logan R. Butler of Auburn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Bernard "Bud" Butler, Eugene "Mick" Butler and Philip Butler.
A graveside service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Hamilton Cemetery, Hamilton, with American Legion Post 97 to conduct military graveside rites. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
Services have been entrusted to Oberlin-Ford Funeral Home and Crematory, Hamilton.
