Donald C. Mapes
(1932 - 2005)
MONTPELIER - Donald C. Mapes, 73, of Montpelier, died Thursday, July 28, 2005, at his residence.
Born July 8, 1932, at Bridgewater Twp., Williams County, to Carlene Louise (Brown) and Lawrence Bert Mapes, he married Wanda J. Jump on June 18, 1971, and she survives.
A lifelong Montpelier resident, he graduated from Pioneer High School in 1949. He retired in 1993 after 21 years as a gear cutter at Martin Sprocket & Gear in Montpelier. Following retirement, he was employed by the maintenance department at Camp Palmer, near Fayette. He attended the Montpelier Church of Christ.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Kerry Mapes, David Mapes and Doug (and wife, Ragena) Summers, all of Montpelier and Joel Summers of Cave City, Ky.; three daughters, Mrs. Tony (Gail) Hageman and Mrs. Doug (Kris) Brown, all of Montpelier and Mrs. Barry (Dawn) Ragsdale of Jonesborough, Ark.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Gerald Mapes of Ashtabula; and a sister, Mrs. Tom (Linda) Page of Orville.
Preceding him in death were an infant brother, an infant sister and a daughter, Debora Mapes. Visitation will be held Friday from 4-8 p.m. in the Wilson-Geesey Funeral Home, Montpelier. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Montpelier Church of Christ with Pastor Jim Willhoit to officiate. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Montpelier.
Memorials may be made to C.H.W.C.-Hospice or Cancer Assistance of Williams County.
Lewis C. Blosser
(1927 - 2005)
CELINA - Lewis C. Blosser, 77, of Celina and formerly of Bryan, died July 22, 2005, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital of St. Marys.
Born Aug. 23, 1927, in Edgerton, to Nina (Campbell) and Park Blosser, he married Mabel Goins on Sept. 9, 1950 and she survives.
While living in Bryan, he was an employee of the former Pet Milk Company. In 1952 he moved to Celina and was employed at Mersman Brothers Furniture Co. retiring from there as maintenance supervisor. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy Seabees and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post, Celina.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Lewis R. (and wife, Connie) of St. Marys and Randy (Deb) of Greenville; two daughters, Gloria Blosser and Janice Fields, both of Celina; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; three sisters, Pauline Merillat of Bryan, Evelyn Fockler of Defiance and Mrs. Don (Dorothy) Woodring of Lyons; a sister-in-law, Lucille Blosser of Defiance; and a brother-in-law, Slavko Mattes of Yuma, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Donna Blosser and Arlene Mattes; two brothers, Hershel of Defiance and Russell Blosser and wife, Lucille, of Bloomington, Ind.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys with the Rev. Bill Maki officiating. Burial with military honors followed at Mercer Memory Gardens at Celina.
Raquel A. Hernandez
(1949 - 2005)
DEFIANCE - Raquel A. Hernandez, 56, of Defiance, died Wednesday evening, July 27, 2005, at the Toledo Hospital, where she had been a patient for seven weeks. She had resided at Harborside Nursing Home in Defiance for the past four years.
Born July 23, 1949, at McAllen, Texas, to Aurora (Fuentes) and Ruben Acevedo, she married Isaac Hernandez in 1982 and he survives.
A homemaker, she had lived in Wauseon and Wahneta, Fla. and was a member of Luz Y Verdad Church at Defiance.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two sons, Paul (and wife, Tara) Cordova of Hilliard and Francisco (Benita) Hernandez of Defiance; two stepsons, Isaac Hernandez Jr. of Tampa, Fla. and Ignacio Hernandez of Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico; two stepdaughters, Maria Hernandez of Albion, N.Y. and Martha Hernandez of Tampa, Fla.; four grandchildren, Lance, Angel, Franky Jr. and Jeramy; her parents, Aurora Acevedo of Defiance and Ruben Acevedo of Orange, Texas ; three brothers, Ruben Acevedo Jr. of Wauseon, Abel (Juanita) Acevedo of Archbold and Esequiel Acevedo of Defiance; and three sisters, Mrs. Guadalupe (Rebecca) Cantu and Rosalinda Ayala, both of Wauseon, and Marissa Noll of Defiance.
Visitation will be held today from 7-8 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Short Funeral Home, Archbold.
Services will be held Friday at 8 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Pedro Ramos to officiate. Interment will be on Saturday in the Archbold Cemetery.
Dorothy Emerson (Slusser) Beck
(1918 - 2005)
TOLEDO - Dorothy Emerson (Slusser) Beck, 87, of Toledo and formerly of Maumee and Bryan, died Monday afternoon, July 25, 2005, at Swan Creek Nursing Center in Toledo.
Born May 4, 1918, at Denver, Colo., to Mildred "Daisy" (Lowe) and Harrison Slusser, she married William Emerson in 1937 and he preceded her in death in 1962. She was preceded in death by her second husband, William C. Beck in 2001.
After attending the former DeVilbiss High School, she graduated from Bryan High School. She later enrolled at the University of Toledo and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1966. She went on to teach at Whitmer High School for eight years, retiring in 1974.
In the 1940s, she was active in the League of Women Voters in Lucas County, serving as president for several years.
Surviving are her children, Mike (and wife, Louanne) Emerson of New Port Richey, Fla., Mrs. Larry (Judith) St. John of Monclova, Mrs. John (Emy) Gallagher of Toledo, Patricia Ahrendt and Barbara Beck, both of Temperance, Mich., and William Beck of Billings, Mont.; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Moyer.
Memorial services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the Swan Lake Chapel at Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Swan Creek Retirement Village Life Care Fund or the Salvation Army.
Arrangements are by the Coyle Funeral Home.
Theodore N. 'Ted' Hanna

ARCHBOLD - Theodore N. "Ted" Hanna, 26, of Archbold, died suddenly Thursday evening, Aug. 4, 2005, in his residence.
Born Nov. 18, 1978, in Paulding, he was the son of Betsy (Cooper) and Aaron Hanna. He was a 1997 graduate of Pettisville High School and was a lifetime northwest Ohio resident. He had worked at Skates Construction in Wauseon for about four years.
Surviving is the mother of his children, Alicia Garcia; a son, Alexander Hanna and two daughters, Tori Hanna and Jessica Hanna, all at home; his mother, Betsy Hanna of Bryan; his father, Aaron Hanna of Ney; a brother, Jacob Hanna of Wauseon; two sisters, Mrs. Sone (Amanda) Contalee of Bryan and Mrs. Alex (Sarah) Buchhop of Defiance; nieces and nephews; paternal grandmother, Nancy Hanna of Ney; and paternal great-grandmother, Willa Hanna of Defiance.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2-8 p.m. in the Short Funeral Home in Archbold.
Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Steve Wilmot of the Edgerton Christian Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Fountain Grove Cemetery in Bryan. Memorials may be made to his children.
Jack K. Teegardin
(1943 - 2005)
HAMILTON, Ind. - Jack K. Teegardin, 62, of Hamilton, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, at Millers Merry Manor.
Born May 4, 1943, in South Bend, he was the son of Hazel (Gilbert) and Kenneth Teegardin. An electrician for General Electric, he was a member of the Fort Wayne VFW Post 10006, the 40 & 8, the Churubusco American Legion Post 0157 and the Fort Wayne Eagles.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mark (Michele) Miller and Mrs. Randy (Denise) Davis, both of Columbia City; a sister, Mrs. Steve (Jackie) Friend of Hamilton; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Oberlin-Ford Funeral Home in Hamilton. Graveside services will be Monday at 12:30 p.m. at Teegardin Cemetery in Hamilton. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Vivienne "Vicki" R. (Radeff) Idzkowski
SMITH MOUNTAIN LAKE, Va. - Vivienne (Vicki) R. (Radeff) Idzkowski, 87, of Smith Mountain Lake, died Aug. 2, 2005.
Born in Toledo, Ohio on Jan. 13, 1918, she was the daughter of Vladimir Radeff and Sarah Potter. A Lake Seneca, Montpelier, Ohio resident for 34 years, where she served on the board and beautification committee, she was also a volunteer for 20 years at CWU Thrift Shop in Bryan, Ohio. She was a member of First Church Christ Scientist, Boston, Mass.
She is preceded in death by her husband Stanley A. Idzkowski; a brother, John Radeff; and sisters, Marge Hentges and Rosalind Navarro.
Services will be private and there will be no visitation.
