Bertie G. Saunders 07/07/2004

Bertie G. Saunders, age 64, of North Marion Street, Cardington, passed away Wednesday July 7,2004 at St. Ann's Hospital in Westerville. She was born on October 4, 1939 in Marion, Ohio to the late Truman and Dottie (Pierce) Long.

In Cardington, Ohio, on December 11,1991 she married Walter Earl Saunders and he survives her.

Friends may call at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington on Friday July 9,2004 from 2-3PM immediately followed by a graveside service at Glendale Union Cemetery in Cardington.

Vesta Irene Helman 07/02/2004

Vesta Irene Helman, age 79, formerly of Water Street, Cardington, passed away Friday July 2, 2004 at the OSU Medical Center. She was born on September 6,1924 to the late Floyd and Nettie (Loudin) Smith.

On December 26,1940 she married Richard C. Helman and he preceded her in death on December 11,1995.

Survivors include 4 sons and their wives, Kenneth and Donna Helman of Chattanooga Tenn., Homer and Janet Helman of Cardington, Phillip and Jo Helman of Columbus and James and Brenda Helman of Cardington; 2 brothers Virgil Smith of Galion Ohio, John L., 4 sisters Gladys Williamson of Sydney, Ohio, Charlene, Gearlene and Magelene; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by 1 son Chester Helman and 12 brothers and sisters.

Friends may call at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington on Tuesday July, 6,2004 from 2-4 and 6-8PM where services will be held on Wednesday at 11AM. Burial will follow in Glendale Union Cemetery.

Gertrude E Claytor 06/24/2004

Gertrude E Claytor, age 102, of Woodside Village Care Center, Mt. Gilead, formerly of County Road 30, Mt. Gilead, died Thursday morning, June 24, 2004 at Morrow County Hospital. She was born July 18, 1901 in Caledonia to the late Edward and Rebecca Anne (Hipsher) Koch.

On June 26, 1921 she married Ralph Claytor who preceded her in death on August 9, 1965. Gertrude was employed for two years at HPM and spent the remainder of her years as a mother and homemaker.

Survivors include 5 children; Rebecca Wagner of Hewitt, TX, Ralph Claytor, Jr., of Portland, IN, Harold Claytor of Lexington, Carol Kerr of Lecanto, FL and Karen Middaugh of Edison; 20 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Gertrude was preceded in death by two sons, Edward and Thomas Claytor and a daughter, Nadine Moodispaugh.

Gompf Funeral Service is assisting the family with final arrangements.

John Robert White 06/21/2004

John Robert White Sr., age 64, of Twp. Rd 124, Cardington, passed away Monday, June 21, 2004 at the Ohio State University Medical Center. He was born on May 29, 1940 to the late John White and Janece (Stivers) Clements who survives in Blue Mound, Ill.

On June 2, 1957 he married the former Peggy Jo Blakeman and she preceded him in death on February 16,1994.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, Jay and Marsha White of Cardington, Kelly and Cheryl White of Mt. Gilead and Bill and Lori White of Cardington; 6 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild; and 1 brother Rick White of Decatur, IL.

In addition to his wife and father, John was preceded in death by a brother, Greg White and a sister, Vicki Chapman.

Friends may call at Gompf Funeral Home on Wednesday June 23, 2004 from 5-8PM where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10AM. Pastor Brian Mosher of the Gilead Friends Church will officiate and burial will follow in Glendale Union Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the organization of the donor's choice.

Jack Bean, Jr 06/15/2004

Jack Bean, Jr., age 61, of State Route 529 East, Cardington died early Tuesday morning, June 15, 2004 at the Cincinnati VA Hospital. He was born January 28, 1943 in Marion to the late Francis L 'Jack' and Kathryn M. (Young) Bean, Sr.

Jack had served in the United States Air Force, was the Vice President of Motel Operations and Construction and a member of Mount Gilead Presbyterian Church. Jack was a member of the Whetstone Woodcarvers and enjoyed fishing, camping, woodcarving and cooking.

On February 4, 1972, in Arlington, OH, he married the former Judy Shadle and she survives in Cardington.

Survivors also include three sons, Scott Bean, Christopher Bean of Pleasant Valley, NY, and Andrew Bean and his wife, Sunny of Cardington; four grandchildren, Jessica Bean, Zachry England, Sarah-Faith Bean and Carson Bowling; and a sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Timothy Raab, of Powell, OH.

Friends may call Friday, June 18, at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington from 2-5PM and the funeral service will follow at 5PM.

France E. Gandee 06/15/2004

France E. Gandee, age 88, formerly of Lincoln Street, Cardington, died Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at Community Healthcare Center. She was born on February 10, 1916 in Clendenin, West Virginia to the late John and Stella (Fitzwater) Seabolt.

She had worked at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Fulton and attended the Church of God of Prophecy. Most recently Frances had made her home with Sharon and David Hubbell.

On December 20, 1931 in Clendenin, WV, Frances married Hysell R. Gandee and he preceded her in death on February 3, 1979.

Survivors include three sons, Robert D. Gandee of Marion, Kenneth B. Gandee of Clearwater, FL, and Jerry M. Gandee of Mt. Gilead; 17 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; one brother, John Seabolt of Belle, WV and one sister, Nellie Angelo, of Tampa, FL.

In addition to her husband, Frances was preceded in death by two sons, John T. and Larry Gandee, two grandchildren, two brothers and four sisters.

Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 8PM at the Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington where funeral services will be held on Friday, June 18th at 10:30AM. Pastor Scott Adams of the Church of God of Prophecy will officiate with the burial to follow in Fulton Cemetery.
