Dr. Victor Lamar Connelly
(1908 - 2005)
AUBURN, N.Y. - Dr. Victor Lamar Connelly, 96, died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2005, in Auburn, N.Y. Born Nov. 26, 1908, in Ney, Ohio, he worked at odd jobs through Ohio Northern College, including door-to-door magazine, refrigerator and vacuum cleaner sales.
Unable to find work as a new graduate during the summer of 1932, he began pitching for professional fastpitch softball teams. For the next several summers, companies supported him in northwestern Ohio including Swift MeatPacking, Ohio Outdoor Ad and Isaac Scrap Metal Co. and in Colorado the Black Diamond Mines.
During winters, he taught in a one-room schoolhouse, a middle school and eventually a high school. He graduated with a University of Oregon DMD degree at the age of 35 in 1944, during World War II, he was a dentist in the army for a brief time. After the war, he began practicing in Portland and a year later Seattle.
In 1947, he set up practice in Santa Monica, Calif., where he practiced for 36 years, retiring at 75. His patients included Olivia Newton-John, Andy Granatelli, Dean Torrence of Jan & Dean, and the Lawrence Welk family.
A member of the Riviera Golf and Country Club for half a century, he often played with Dean Martin, Mickey Rooney and many other celebrities.
In about 1939, he married Gertrude Emily Warren of Portland. Their marriage broke up in 1955 and she died in 1961.
Surviving are a son, David Warren (and wife, Kathleen) Connelly of Auburn, N.Y.; a daughter, Mrs. Glenn (Linda Casey) Weaver of Santa Rosita Beach, Fla.; a grandchild, Patrick Connelly of Auburn; and many nieces and nephews, including Ned Garver of Bryan, Ohio, Florence Connelly Poulson of Edgerton, Ohio, Don Garver of Bryan, Alice Connelly Sims of Ney, Ohio and Mildred Connelly Chatterton of Edgerton.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m. in the Ney Church of God in Ney. There will be no visitation.

Thomas L. Roth
(1945 - 2005)
ARCHBOLD - Thomas L. Roth, 60, of Archbold, died Tuesday evening, Nov. 22, 2005, at the Fulton County Health Center in Wauseon, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born March 26, 1945, at Wauseon, to Wilma (Stamm) and Glen A. Roth, he married Sally Short on Jan. 23, 1966, and she survives.
A lifelong resident of the Archbold area, he farmed, worked at Frey & Sons in Archbold and worked in sales at Liechty Farm Equipment in Archbold the past 16 years.
He was a member of the Lockport Mennonite Church, rural Stryker, where he taught Sunday School many years and currently served on the Leadership Team. He was also a member of the Gideons International, serving as the Memorial Bible Chairman of the Fulton County Camp. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Corey Roth of Archbold and Christian Roth of Bluffton; a daughter, Carrie Kruse of Bluffton; a brother, Gene (and wife, Shelia) Roth of Archbold; and a sister, Mrs. William (Dawn) Walsh of Archbold.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Betty Lou Yoder.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Lockport Mennonite Church with Pastors Allen Rutter and Pamela Graf Short to officiate. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Lockport Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Short Funeral Home in Archbold is serving the family.
Memorials may be made to the Gideons International, the Lockport Mennonite Church or the donor's favorite charity.
Ralph H. Greenisen
(1923 - 2005)
Ralph H. Greenisen, 82, of Bryan, died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Grayling, Mich.
Born Jan. 15, 1923, in Salem, to Julia (Green) and John Robinson Greenisen, he married Ruth Alice Stoudt on June 2, 1946, at Salem, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 6, 1988.
The former owner of Greenisen Funeral Home, which is now the Burr Funeral Home & Crematory, he had retired from the funeral business in 1986.
A 1940 graduate of Salem High School and a graduate of Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, he was a Navy veteran of World War II.
On April 1, 1949, he purchased the Krill Funeral in Bryan and changed it to Greenisen Funeral Home. He then went into partnership with Thomas A. Tilton as Greenisen & Tilton Funeral Home. In 2004 it became the Burr Funeral Home & Crematory.
A member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, he was a past worthy patron of Eastern Star Bryan Chapter 248, Knight's Templar, 32nd Degree Mason, Toledo Zenobia Shriners, the Northwest Hi-Twelve Club of Bryan, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Toledo, Northwest Chapter of R.A.M., Bryan Council, Royal Select Masons, Bryan Commandry K.T., past commander of Bryan American Legion Post 284, past president of Bryan Rotary Club, Loyal Order of the Moose-Bryan and Ohio Funeral Director's Association where he had received his 50 year award in 2001.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Michael (Judith Ann) Lewis of Bryan and Joyce Louise Greenisen of Traverse City, Mich.; two grandchildren, Lee Thomas Lewis of Fort Wayne, Ind. and Mrs. Joshua (Ann Louise Lewis) Nichols of Bryan; two great-granddaughters, Keegan Ann and Brooklyn Renee Nichols; a brother, Ray Jacob Greenisen of Salem; three nieces and three nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Greenisen in 1991.
Visitation will be held Friday from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. in the Burr Funeral Home & Crematory-Bryan.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Dwight Bowers of Wesley United Methodist Church to officiate. Burial will follow in Shiffler Cemetery, rural Bryan.
Memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church or the Bryan Area Foundation.
Dawn Marie Rupp
(1959 - 2005)
Dawn Marie Rupp, 46, of Bryan, died early Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005, at her residence, after a lengthy illness.
Born Nov. 10, 1959, at Bryan, to David E. Batt and the late Patricia A. Goeltzenleuchter, she married Timothy Dale Rupp on May 24, 1980, and he survives.
A graduate of the Bryan Class of 1979, she was a member of the Bryan Alliance Church and was employed at McDonald's in Bryan.
She was an active supporter of the sports programs at Edgerton High School, a Den Mother for Cub Scout Pack 29 and an avid Harley rider along with her husband. Last Memorial Day weekend, they rode in the Rolling Thunder Parade in Washington D.C. to honor the Vietnam Vets.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her father and stepmother, David E. and Karen K. Batt; a son, Benjamin Dale Rupp of Ypsilanti, Mich.; a daughter, Emily Anne of Anderson, Ind.; a sister, Mrs. Edwin (Belinda S.) Taylor of Jackson, Mich.; brothers, David E. (and wife, Jan) Batt Jr. of Bryan, Jerry J. (Angie) Batt of Bowling Green and Jon A. Batt of Detroit, Mich.; father and mother-in-law, Dale and Pauline Rupp; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Dan (Cindy) Cairl, Mrs. Gayle (Vicki) Keppeler and Mrs. Bill (Beth) Bolin; 10 nephews and six nieces.
Visitation will be held today from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. in the Oberlin-Ford Funeral Home-Bryan. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Bryan Alliance Church with the Rev. Gary Keisling to officiate. Burial will follow in Shiffler Cemetery, Pulaski.
Memorials may be made to The Ben and Emily Rupp Educational Fund or Cancer Assistance of Williams County Fund.
Thelma Hugg
(1916 - 2005)
Thelma Hugg, 89, of Bryan, died Tuesday morning, Nov. 22, 2005, at her residence.
Born Jan. 23, 1916, at Waldron, Mich., to Carma (Reeves) and Nelson Douglass, she married Bernard Hugg on July 9, 1936, and he survives.
A homemaker, she was a member of the Kunkle United Brethren Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by 11 children, Gloria North, Delores Mentley, Nelson (and wife, Helen) Hugg, Mrs. Rodney (Lyndal) Mocherman, Val (Aileen) Hugg, Mrs. Lundy (Kaleen) Adelsberger, Noel Hugg, Ned (Diane) Hugg, Rhonda Couts, Kyle (Jodi) Hugg and Lorain Bickham; 31 grandchildren, Brian, Chris, Kent, Lee and Dan North, Diane Shinabery, Joann Proctor, Carol Foor, Rachel Hampton, Vance Hugg, Tonya Weinger, Paula Hugg, Douglas and Andrea Mocherman, Troy Hugg, Melissa Bruner, Dawn Bernard, Ryan Adelsberger, Angie Cates, Leslie and Brent Hugg, Brooke Shahan, Brad Hugg, Joshua and Nathan Couts, Shannon, Mallory and Christian Hugg, Mandi, Stacey and Brandon Bickham; and 33 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Doug, Jack and Aubrey Douglass; two granddaughters, Theresa Mocherman and Brenda Hugg; and three son-in-laws, Don North, Virgil Mentley and Mike Couts.
Visitation will be held Friday from 3-7 p.m. in the Burr Funeral Home & Crematory and Saturday from 9-10 a.m. in the Kunkle United Brethren Church.
Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the church with Pastor Devon Strine to officiate. Burial will follow in Floral Grove Cemetery, Pioneer.
Memorials may be made to the Kunkle United Brethren Church or Community Hospitals and Wellness Center Hospice Program.
Burlin L. "Jimmy" Weaver
(1938 - 2005)
EDGERTON - Burlin L. 'Jimmy' Weaver, 67, of Edgerton and formerly of Garrett and Butler, Ind., died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005, at the VA Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Born Jan. 8, 1938, at Moatsville, W. Va., to Rozilla (Shaffer) and Clyde Weaver, he married Lueray Delander in 1959, at Clarksburg, W. Va. and she survives.
A longtime employee of Borg-Warner and then Auburn Gear in Auburn, Ind., he retired in 1998 with over 30 years of service.
A veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict, he was a member of John D. Smith Post No. 10 of the American Legion in Edgerton and a former member of the VFW. He was active in his communities as a Boy Scout Leader in Garrett and as a special deputy with Noble County, Ind. Sheriff's Department for several years. In recent years, he had become an avid remote control car racer.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Donald (and wife, Tina) Weaver in Michigan; a daughter, Debbie Roby in Florida; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
Visitation will be held Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton.
Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Edgerton, with graveside military rites conducted by John D. Smith Post No. 10 of the American Legion.
