Mildred Smith
(1929 - 2005)

EDON - Mildred Smith, 76, of rural Edon, died at 6:20 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005, in her home after an extended illness.
Mildred Smith was born July 10, 1929, in Northwest Township, Williams County, the daughter of Ruth (Boyer) and James Ellis. She married Virgil Smith in 1948, and he preceded her in death in 1971.
She was a homemaker and lifelong resident of Northwest Township.
Surviving are two daughters, Carol and Betty Smith, both of rural Edon; two sons, John Smith and Steven Joe (and wife, Sharon) Smith, also of rural Edon; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and one sister, Oletha Lampman, of rural Edon. Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, were one daughter, Patricia Smith in 1969; two sons, James and William; one infant son; and one sister, Thelma Rose.
Visitation will be in the Krill Funeral Home, Edon, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. in the Columbia Church of Christ with Pastor Paul Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Columbia Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to a charity of the donor's choice.

Florence Evelyn Malseed
(1930 - 2005)

OSSEO, Mich. -- Florence Evelyn Malseed, 75, of Osseo and formerly of Warren, died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005, at Drew's Place of Hillsdale County Assisted Living in Hillsdale.
Born April 23, 1930, at Michigan City, Ind., she was the daughter of Leona (Freyer) and Arthur Yanke. She was married to Robert M. Malseed, and he preceded her in death in April 1999. A member of Lake View United Brethren in Christ Church of rural Camden (Merry Lake), she had retired after 35 in Warren as the office manager for Mac Ray Tool.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. John (Dawn Joy) Fraley of Lyons, Ohio; a son, Robert (and wife, Robin) Malseed of Inyokern, Calif.; three brothers; two sisters; and two grandchildren, Abby M.J. Fraley (Airman 1st Class) of Whitman AFB in Missouri and Chelsea M.S. Fraley of Lyons.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, were her parents.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2-6 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home in Pioneer.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the Lake View United Brethren in Christ Church of rural Camden (Merry Lake), with Pastor Stephen E. Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen in Hillsdale County.
Memorials may be made to the education fund at the Lake View United Brethren in Christ Church of rural Camden (Merry Lake).

Virgil E. Geiger
(1927 - 2005)

DEFIANCE - Virgil E. Geiger, 78, of Defiance, died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.
Born June 6, 1927, at Defiance, to Edith M. (Rohrs) and Harvey A. Geiger, he married Agnes F. Cajka on June 10, 1950 and she preceded him in death on July 1, 1995.
A World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy, he was the former co-owner of Geiger Bro. Electric from 1951 to 1979.
A former 4th Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus, he was a member of the Defiance Elks 147, I.B.E.W. Local 8 and St. John Catholic Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Karl (Becky) Schrag of Defiance and Mrs. Gabe (Deb) Peitrykowski of Bryan; two sons, Joseph Geiger of Defiance and Daniel Geiger of Angola, Ind.; 12 grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Virgil (Ruth) Cupp of Defiance; and a brother, Clarence E. "Hymie" Geiger of Fremont, Ind.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and two infant sons.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home, Defiance. A vigil service will be held Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. in St. John Catholic Church with Father Dennis Walsh to officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the church.

Velma M. Benner
(1917 - 2005)

WEST UNITY - Velma M. Benner, 88, of West Unity and formerly of Williams Center since 1949, died Thursday morning, Dec. 15, 2005, at the Park View Nursing Center in Edgerton.
Born May 9, 1917, at Bryan, to Gertrude V. (Kinzer) and Alfred E. Brown, she married Earl Victor Benner on Dec. 24, 1936, and he preceded her in death on June 5, 1999.
A 1935 graduate of Bryan High School, she had been employed at the Bryan Canning Company and was a cook for the restaurant in West Unity, currently known as Mom's Village Cafe.
A farmer's wife and homemaker, she was a Protestant and a past member of the Brady Grange. Surviving are a son, Duane (and wife, Mary) Benner of West Unity; a daughter, Phyllis J. Harden of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two grandsons, Steve (Toni) Benner of Novi, Mich. and Scott (Karyn) Harden of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a granddaughter, Colette Benner of West Unity; two stepgrandsons, John and Jay Joseph of Toledo; a great-grandchild; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Bruce Allen Benner; two granddaughters, Kayleen Sue Benner and Mrs. Joseph (Kammie Sue) Scherer; and her son-in-law, Glen M. Harden.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 4-8 p.m. in the Hollingshead-Beck Funeral Home in West Unity. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Waggoner to officiate. Burial will be in the Brown Cemetery in Bryan.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes. Association or to the donor's choice.

Howard E. Ellert
(1952 - 2005)

NEY - Howard E. Ellert, 52, of Ney, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005, as the result of an automobile accident on Flickinger Rd., Washington Twp., Ney.
Born Dec. 15, 1952, at Garrett, Ind., to Eulalia (Traxler) and Herman Ellert, he married Beverly Miller in 2003 and she survives.
The co-owner of D & H Country Side Services, he was formerly employed at I.F.S. for 24 years. He was a member of the Ney Jaycees, the Ney- Washington Twp. Fire Dept. and Bryan Eagles Aerie 2233.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Tyson Ellert of Bryan and Travis Ellert of Defiance; a daughter, Melissa Leland of Mentor-on-the-Lake; two grandchildren; his parents, Herman and Eulalia Ellert of Waterloo, Ind.; five sisters, Jane Ellert of Fort Wayne, Ind., Mrs. Jack (Beverly) Birely of Hamilton, Ind., Mrs. Norbert (Doris) Miller of Waterloo, Mrs. Frank (Maxine) Dunn of Waterloo and Mrs. Terry (Janet) Kurtz of Edon; and a brother, Edward (and wife, Penny) Ellert of Waterloo.
He was preceded in death by a son, Alex R. Ellert.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-9 p.m. in the Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home, Defiance. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Father David Tscherne to officiate. Burial will be in Evansport Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

Edwin W. Roehrig
(1939-2005)

STRYKER - Edwin W. Roehrig, 66, of Edgerton and formerly of Stryker, died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005, at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers-Bryan.
Born Nov. 25, 1939, at Defiance, he was the son of Evelyn (Fuller) and Robert Roehrig. He is survived by cousins.
Arrangements are pending at the Grisier Funeral Home in Stryker.

Georgianna Strasbaugh
(1919-2005)

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Georgianna Strasbaugh, 86, of Santa Maria, Calif., died Dec. 10, 2005, at Country Oaks Care Center.
Born Feb. 9, 1919, at Sylvania, Ohio, to Anna and George Huffman, she married Miles Strasbaugh on June 1, 1944, and he survives.
A 1937 graduate of Burnham High School, she moved to California in 1953 and was a resident of West Covina for 47 years until moving to Santa Maria in 2003.
She was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Baldwin Park.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by six children, Miles (and wife, Sharon) Strasbaugh, Mrs. Philip (Anna) Dinter, Barbara Strasbaugh, James (Hideko) Strasbaugh, Mrs. James (Linda) Harter and Roger (Diana) Strasbaugh; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be held today at 3 p.m. in the Dudley Hoffman Mortuary Chapel in Santa Maria. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer Association of San Luis Obispo County, S. 3480 Higuera Street Suite 120, San Obispo, CA 93401.
Condolences may be sent to Miles E. Strasbaugh at 1650 E. Clarke, Space 302, Santa Maria, CA 93455.
