Helen F. Wermer
(1917-2005)

HURON - Helen F. Wermer, 88, formerly of Montpelier, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, after a brief illness.
The daughter of Florence and Charles Changnon, she was born in Montpelier on Feb. 28, 1917. She lived in Montpelier until 1997, when she moved to Huron.
She was graduated from Hillsdale College, Hillsdale, Mich. She met Alfred Wermer, then of Van Wert, while attending Hillsdale College and they were married on Nov. 24, 1938.
Mr. and Mrs. Wermer operated the Montpelier Daily News and Wermer's Pet Shop in Montpelier. He preceded her in death in 1994.
Surviving are five sons, Charles (and wife, Carol Molloy) of Milton, Fla., Richard (Karen) of Hicksville, David (Anne) of Austin, Texas, Joseph (Mary) of Los Alamos, N.M., and James (Bonnie) of Lake Alfred, Fla.; four daughters, Mrs. Steve (Susan) Prough of Austin, Texas, Mrs. Jerry (Dorothy) Boyce of Fort Wayne, Ind., Mrs. Carey (Nancy) Cook of Vernon Hills, Ill., and Mrs. Tom (Alice) Mullins of Castalia; two sisters-in-law, Betty (Elizabeth Wermer) Snyder of Van Wert and Trudie Changnon of Livermore, Calif.; 22 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death in addition to her husband were an infant son, Robert, in 1944; and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Mary, in 2000.
The family will gather for a celebration of life service at a later date. The Foster Funeral Home, 410 Main St., Huron, is handling the arrangements.

Bernadette A. Sheets
(1923-2005)

SHERWOOD - Bernadette A. Sheets, 82, of Sherwood, died late Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, at Defiance Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 27, 1923, in Defiance County, she was the daughter of Irene (Batt) and Edward Schindler. On Aug. 26, 1944, she married Victor I. Sheets, and he preceded her in death on March 14, 1999. A member of St. Isidore Catholic Church at The Bend, and formerly St. Stephen's Catholic, Sherwood, she was a former CCD teacher, and a member of the Rosary and Altar Society and the Catholic Ladies of Columbia.
She was a graduate of St. John Commercial and Ney High School and was previously employed as a cook at the Vagabond Restaurant for 10 years, at Kissner's for 10 years, and at Mo's in Ney. She was a member of the Fountain City Square Dance club.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Walter (Judith) Lapchyski of Cleveland, Mrs. Dave (Teresa) Karacson of Bryan and Mrs. Dave (Jacqueline) Schiefer of Fostoria; two sons, John E. (and wife, Karen) Sheets of Ney and Thomas S. (Rebecca) Sheets of Ayersville; four sisters, Mrs. Lawrence (Madonna) Brenner of Stryker, Mary Timbrook of Hicksville, Mrs. Lawrence (Jean) Ewery of Bryan and Mrs. Robert (Janice) Neiling of Deshler; three brothers, Robert (Katherine) Schindler of Bryan, Francis (Pat) Schindler of Ney and Cletus (Becky) Schindler of Liberty Center; 17 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, were her parents; a son, Timothy Sheets; and a brother, Richard Schindler.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2-8 p.m. at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home in Defiance, with a Rosary service at 8 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Isidore's Chapel at Delaware Bend, with Father Dave Tscherne officiating. Interment will be at St. Michael's Cemetery in Defiance County. Memorials may be made to St. Isidore Catholic Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Marvin L. Schad
(1938 - 2006)

ENGLEWOOD, Fla. - Marvin L. Schad, 67, a winter resident of Englewood (Sarasota County), died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006.
Born Feb. 17, 1938, in Defiance County, Ohio, he had been a winter resident in the Englewood area since 1983, coming from Bryan, Ohio.
He owned and operated M&R Builders and managed in the operations with Suburban Golf, Inc., both of Bryan.
A veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army, he was a member of the Clyde Lasser Memorial V.F.W. Post No. 10178, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 3885 and the Myakka Pines Golf Club, all in Englewood.
Surviving are his wife, Suellen; a son, Mark A. of Kings Mountain, N.C.; a daughter, Lori A. Wilder of Tampa, Fla.; three grandsons; a brother, Seldon W. Schad; and a sister, Colleen Posey, both of Bryan.
Memorial services will be held at a later date in Bryan. Lemon Bay Funeral Homes, Englewood Chapel, is in charge of cremation arrangements.

Leota M. Bankey
(1909 - 2006)

ARCHBOLD - Leota M. Bankey, 96, of Archbold, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold.
Born Dec. 28, 1909, to Edna (Baird) and Roy Rundell, she married Clarence Bankey on April 1, 1935, and he preceded her in death in 1993.
Prior to her retirement she had been an assistant buyer for the former Lamson's Department Store in Toledo, where she had worked for 25 years. Prior to that she had worked at Western Union Telegraph.
She was a member of the Archbold United Methodist Church, the Archbold Garden Club, the Republican Club and the Toledo Art Museum.
She is survived by her nieces.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Grisier Funeral Home in Archbold.

Judee Ann Stine
ST. MARYS, Ga. - Judee Ann Stine, 56, of St. Marys died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, at Shands Jacksonville.
A native of Washington D.C., she had resided in Camden County for the past eight years, having been employed for 15 years with the American Automobile Association and attended the First Baptist Church of Kingsland.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Stine; mother, Lucelia Taylor; a daughter, Emily Stine, all of St. Marys; a son, Joe (and wife, Kim) Stine of West Unity, Ohio; three grandchildren, Tatianna Stine, Aubrey Stine and Marishka Stine; a brother Danny  Taylor of Tampa, Fla.; and two sisters, Eileen Simons of St. Marys and Debbie  Taylor of Orlando, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Wayne Taylor; a son, Adam Stine; and a brother, Craig Taylor.
Memorial services were to be held today at 11 a.m. in the First Baptist Church in Kingsland with the Rev. Vernon Dillingham to officiate.
Memorial services will also be held Wednesday, Jan. 11, at 11 a.m., in the United Methodist Church, West Unity, Ohio, with the Rev. Nick Woodall to officiate.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes. Association.
Allison Memorial Chapel of St. Marys, Ga. is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Lou (Cooper) Beattie
(1929 - 2006)

KITTANNING, Pa. - Mary Lou (Cooper) Beattie, 76, of Kittanning and formerly of Bryan, Ohio, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, at Armstrong County Health Center.
Born July 23, 1929, in Worthington, Pa. to Ethel (Lewis) and Orion E. Cooper, she married John L. Beattie and he preceded her in death.
A Presbyterian by faith, she had retired as the secretary for the Pet Milk Company in Bryan. Surviving are a stepson, James Beattie of China; a stepdaughter, Peggy Beattie of Pine Plains, N.Y.; two brothers, James L. Cooper of Strongsville, Ohio and H. Dean Cooper of Kittanning; four nieces; five nephews; a number of grandnieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Lucille Cooper of State College, Pa.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a stepson, Tommy Beattie; two sisters, Lucy Cooper and Norma Bowser; and two brothers, Charles L. Cooper and Clyde Cooper.
Visitation will be held today from 7-9 p.m. and Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. in the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home, Kittanning.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. David Meneely of the First Baptist Church to officiate. Burial will be in Worthington Presbyterian Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Worthington library or the Bryan library.

Richard Max Etoll
(1919 - 2005)

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - Richard Max Etoll, 86, of Cathedral City, Calif. and formerly of Williams County, died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005, at Kindred Hospital in Ontario, Calif.
Born Nov. 11, 1919, at Genoa, Ohio, to Matilda (Livengood) and Roshade George Etoll, he married Beatrice Parson (now Hurley) in 1946 and they divorced in 1951. He married Katherine Koivisto in 1970 and she preceded him in death on Nov. 30, 2001.
A resident of Northwestern Ohio and Williams County for many years, he attended Genoa High School and was a member of the 1938 baseball team that went to the state tournament. He was a liquor inspector in the 1950's and owner of a tavern in Zanesville, Ohio. He moved to southern California in 1965 where he was a salesman for a mobile home company.
He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Cathedral City, Calif.
Surviving are three children, Theresa "Teri" (and companion, Michael Beal) Sweigart of Topeka, Kansas, Mrs. Robert (Pamela) Lomelino of Jacksonville, Ill. and Richard Thomas (and wife, Cindy) Etoll of Hesperia, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two stepchildren, Mrs. Ed (Cynthia) Fay of Westminster, Colo. and Mark (Betsy) Koivisto of Sacramento, Calif.; seven stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; 13 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister; and a brother, Cornell Etoll of Stryker, Ohio and later Apache Junction, Ariz.
Following cremation, burial will be held at Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, Calif., on Wednesday, Jan. 11, at 10 a.m.
