L. Eileen Ramsey 03/27/2004

L. Eileen Ramsey, age 85, of Co. Rd. 26, Cardington, died Saturday morning, March 27, 2004 at the Woodside Village Care Center. She was born on April 16, 1918 in Mount Gilead to the late Thomas William and Florence M (Yake) Hobson.

Eileen was a graduate of Chesterville High School and a member of Fargo Wesleyan Church.

On November 11, 1946, in Mount Gilead she married Harold 'Hap' Ramsey and he preceded her in death on August 31, 1994.

Eileen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law; Ellen and Ron Hornsby of Marengo; three grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Lola Carr and Amy Hershner both of Mount Gilead; step-daughter, Pat Cron of Georgia, in addition to two step-daughters and one stepson.

In addition to her husband and parents, Eileen was preceded in death by one son, Dennis W. Tharp.

Friends may call Monday from 6 to 8PM at the Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington where the funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11AM. Pastor John C. Brock of the Fargo Wesleyan Church will officiate and the burial will be in the Gilead Friends Cemetery.

Those wishing to make a memorial contribution are asked to consider Fargo Wesleyan Church in care of the funeral home.

Jenave E. Long 03/24/2004

Jenave E. Long, age 92, formerly of East Main Street, Cardington died Thursday, evening March 24, 2004 at Community Healthcare Center in Marion. She was born in Marion County April 8, 1911 to the late Michael J. and Carolyn E. (Hagen) Pfeiffer.

Jenave graduated from Marion Business College, was a lifelong homemaker, a member of Olentangy Temple # 164 Pythian Sisters for over 50 years, a member of the Cardington Senior Citizens and of Circle # 1 at Cardington First United Methodist Church.

In Cardington on April 8, 1940, she married Harley M. Long, and he preceded her in death on July 17, 1984.

Jenave is survived by a sister; Kathryn Davis of Marion.

In addition to her parents and husband, two brothers, Michael and Karl Pfeiffer and a sister, Estella Anspaugh preceded Jenave in death.

Graveside services will be held at 10AM Saturday, March 27, 2003 at Glendale Union Cemetery in Cardington with Pastor John  Jackson officiating.

Memorial donations may me made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Bernice L. Strine 03/20/2004

Bernice L. Strine, age 82, of Township Rd. 152, Cardington, passed away Saturday evening March 20,2004 at Marion General Hospital. She was born on January 19,1922 to the late Leon and Gladys (Huntsman) Burrey.

Throughout her lifetime Bernice was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, active in Cardington homemakers and Jenkins Vaughn Unit 97 Auxiliary

On October 27,1940 in Greenup, Kentucky she married John Vincent Strine and he survives her.

Other survivors include 3 daughters Sharon and Dennis Blose of Columbus, Joan and DeWayne Jerome of Glendora, California and Jacqueline  Taylor of Marion; 3 grandchildren, Kristen and Jon Ryan of Richmond, Virginia, Christopher Blose of Huntersville, N.C. and Megan  Taylor of Marion; 1 brother Leon and his wife Carol Burrey of Roanoke, Indiana; 2 sisters Dorothy Chappell of Caledonia and Arlene and Willis Henry of Indian Lake; 1 sister-in-law Marry Ellen Burrey of Bellefontaine and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents Bernice was preceded in death by 2 brothers Leonard and Richard Burrey.

Friends may call at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington on Thursday March 25,2004 from 4-7PM where the funeral services will be held on Friday at 11AM with Pastor Ed Wahl of St. Paul Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow in Glendale Union Cemetery, Cardington.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider St. Paul Lutheran Church or a charity of their choice in care of Gompf Funeral Home 440 South Center Street Cardington, Ohio 43315.

William L. Drake 03/04/2004

William L. Drake, age 59, of Township Road 121, Mt. Gilead, died Thursday afternoon, March 4, 2004 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. He was born February 14, 1945 in Blendon Township, Franklin County to the late David F. and Betty J. (Davidson) Drake, Sr.

William had been employed for 10 years at North Electric as a set up. On November 20, 1965 he married the former Linda Richey at Cardington United Methodist Church. She survives in Mt. Gilead.

Additional survivors include, sons and daughter in laws, William J. and Angie Drake of Mount Gilead and Robert (Bob) and Jeannine Drake of Marion, 4 grandchildren, William R and Brandon N. Drake of Mt Gilead and Brittany and Kaylee Drake of Marion, siblings, Robin Drake and Elize 'Sketer' Drake of Chesterville, Betty Owens and Marcie Deal of Mt Gilead, Marilyn and Mack Grass of New Mexico and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, William was also preceded in death by a brother, David Drake, Jr.

Friends may call at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington on Monday, March 8, one hour prior to the services which will begin at 2PM. Pastor Mary Lou Gompf will officiate and burial will be in Marengo Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to the family in care of the funeral home.

Wayne W. Witzel 03/03/2004

Wayne W. Witzel, age 69, of Marion, died Wednesday morning March 3, 2004, at Community Health Care Center. He was born at home on Newmans-Cardington Road, Waldo, on December 30, 1934, to the late Donald and Ada (Schlecht) Witzel.

Wayne was a graduate of Waldo High School where he was a member of the FFA. He was a retired farmer. Also, Wayne had worked as a produce manager at Wise's Super Market, Super Duper Super Market, Abbott Wire and Bruno, Inc. Wayne was a member of St. John Lutheran Church (Windfall) and had been a 4-H advisor.

He was married on March 21,1971 to the former Carol L. (Thornberry) at St. John Lutheran Church (Windfall). She survives in Marion.

In addition he is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Wilma and Lawrence Mosier of Mt. Gilead; nieces, nephews and their spouses, Dean and Michelle Mosier of Ashley, Julie Mosier and Carl and Debra McFarland all of Edison, Dennis and Eileen Levering, Phil and Gayla Lyons, Larry and Colleen Myers, and Michael Wipple all of Mt. Gilead; 11 Great nieces and nephews and 1 great-great nephew.

A sister, Lavonne Whipple, preceded him in death.

Friends may call at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington on Friday, March 5, 2004 from 4-8PM. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11AM at St. John Lutheran Church - and burial will follow at the church cemetery. Pastor Donald Pletcher will officiate.
