Paul W. Bernath
(1926 - 2006)

ARCHBOLD - Paul W. "Pup" Bernath, 80, of Archbold, died early Friday morning, Feb. 10, 2006, at Heartland of Wauseon, where he had resided since Dec. 22, 1999. Born Feb. 9, 1926, near Archbold, he was the son of Josephine (Grime) and Jacob Bernath. A lifelong resident of the Archbold area, he had worked in the Auto Body Shop at Rich Ford & Mercury in Archbold for many years. He was then self-employed and operated as Bernath's Body Shop in Archbold until 1999. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are four sons, Bruce (and wife, Linda) Bernath of Wauseon, Grant Bernath and Scott (Jodi) Bernath, both of Archbold, and James Bernath of Swanton; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Clarence (Dorothy) Bernath of Archbold, Joseph Bernath of West Unity and Thomas (Callie) Bernath of Archbold; and a sister, Mrs. Leon (Rose Mary) Blank of Lenoir City, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Olen Bernath, Lawrence Bernath and Eugene Bernath; and a sister, Pauline Langford.
Private services will be held at Short Funeral Home in Archbold with Deacon Thomas Dominique to officiate. Interment will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
Memorials may be made to Hospice, The Caring Way, of Williams and Fulton Counties.

Ellen (Frappier) Abernathy
(1929 - 2006)

JACKSON, Mich. - Ellen (Frappier) Abernathy, 76, of  Jackson and formerly of Montpelier, Ohio, died Friday, Feb. 3, 2006, at  Jackson Medical Facility of Jackson, where she was a resident.
Born April 25, 1929, to Ester (Caywood) and Eural Toner, she married Billy Abernathy on May 19, 1972, and he survives.
She was very active with the Montpelier Moose No. 270, Montpelier bowling leagues and the  Jackson Moose, golf and bowling leagues.
Surviving are a son, Michael Dewey of Jonesville; two daughters, Deborah Sines of Montpelier and Jodi Kirkland of Jackson; two stepchildren, Michael Abernathy of Bay City and Mrs. Charles (Vicki) Simpkins of California; five grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. William (Theresa) Harmon of Edgerton and Margo Guyse of Montpelier; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, three brothers and three sisters.
Services will be held Saturday, Feb. 18, at 1 p.m. in the chapel at Roseland Memorial Gardens. There will be no visitation.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Beulah A. Grieser
(1911 - 2006)

ARCHBOLD - Beulah A. Grieser, 94, of Archbold, died early Thursday morning, Feb. 9, 2006, at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold, where she had resided since Feb. 24, 2005.
Born Nov. 10, 1911, near Archbold, to Carrie (Rupp) and Harvey King, she married Truman Grieser on Nov. 24, 1932, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 16, 1979. A lifelong resident of the Archbold area, she was a homemaker and a volunteer quilter at Sauder Village.
She and her husband helped in church planting at Spencer Mennonite Church at Holland, Ohio, and she was a lifelong member of the Tedrow Mennonite Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Glenn (Janet) Esh of Columbus, Mrs. Delbert (Carol) Martin of Sharpsburg, Md. and Mrs. Art (Ethel) Swartzendruber of Kokomo, Ind.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Glen (and wife, Doris) King of Sarasota, Fla.; and a sister, Doris Nafziger of Goshen, Ind.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a great-grandson; a brother, Ralph King; and three sisters, Ella Nofziger, Ilva Wyse and Mildred Smith.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-8 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Archbold, and Monday from 9-10 a.m. in the Fairlawn Chapel.
Services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in the chapel, with Pastors Randy Nafziger and Gary Stuckey to officiate. Interment will follow in the Pettisville Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to Gideons International.

Letha B. Landis
(1919 - 2006)

ALVORDTON - Letha B. Landis, 86, of Alvordton, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006, at Harborside Healthcare Northwestern Ohio-Bryan.
Born Oct. 19, 1919, in Williams County, to Vera (Johnston) and Henry Logan Altaffer, she married Marshall R. Landis and he preceded her in death in August of 1996.
A homemaker, she had graduated from Kunkle High School in 1937 and attended the Madison Church of God in rural Montpelier.
A lifelong Williams County resident, she had lived in Alvordton since 1946. At one time, she and her husband had owned approximately 8,000 chickens and sold eggs.
Surviving are two sons, Samuel (and wife, Phyllis) Landis of Lorain and the Rev. Marshall Ray (Georgia) Landis Jr. of Karuizawa, Japan; two daughters, Ms. Elizabeth O. Leveis of Flushing, N.Y. and Mrs. Peter (Vera May) Peterson of Amherst; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; 12 stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; three brothers, Henry, Merle and Ralph Altaffer, all of Bryan; and two sisters, Gladys Bowers of Bryan and Vaneta Mapes of Pioneer.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Maurice L. Altaffer.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. in the Thompson Funeral Home, Montpelier.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Madison Church of God, rural Montpelier, with Pastors Robert Waggoner and Mike Wilder to officiate. Interment will be in Floral Grove Cemetery, Pioneer.
Memorials may be made to the Williams County Senior Center or to the building fund of the church.

Alice (Malone) Riddle
(1909 - 2006)

HOBART, Ind. - Alice B. Riddle, 96, of Hobart, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006. Born July 11, 1909, at Clio, Mich., to Margaret Elizabeth (Edward) and William Wilbur Malone, she married Charles Riddle on July 18, 1929, at Bryan, Ohio, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 15, 1971.
A homemaker, she had grown up in Montpelier, Ohio.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Clara) Ramer and Freda Riddle, both of Hobart; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Retha Letner of Montpelier, Ohio.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter and four brothers, Carl, Earl, Clarence and infant William W. Malone.
Funeral services were held Feb. 14 at the Rees Funeral Home, Hobart, with burial at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Hobart.

Carl William Egler Sr.
(1950 - 2006)

STRYKER - Carl William Egler Sr., 55, of Stryker, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006, at his residence.
The son of Ruby (Snodgrass) and Duane W. Egler, he was born Sept. 18, 1950, at Defiance. He was married to Rosanne Sauder on May 7, 1983, and she survives.
A member of Archbold United Methodist Church, he was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Defiance Commandery Knights Templar 30, Knight of the York Cross of Honor, Omega Lodge-Defiance, Ensawocsa Lodge-Defiance, Oc-Co-Nox-Ee Lodge-Defiance, Tallceaders, High-12, Valley of Toledo Scottish Rite and Angola-Yeoman of York. He was also a past patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, and was employed as a custodian at Northeastern Local Schools.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are four sons, Thomas Egler at home, Terry Egler of Bryan, Carl W. Egler Jr. of Jewell and Matthew Egler of Defiance; a daughter, April Egler of Texas ; his parents, who reside at Jewell; three brothers, David Egler of Defiance, Ronald Egler of Jewell and Daniel Egler of Defiance; four sisters, Connie Grimes of Reno, Nev., Diana Smith of Paulding, Rebecca Loop of Defiance and Sara Mordaunt of Fredericksburg, Texas ; and seven grandchildren. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-9 p.m. at the Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home in Defiance. There will be an Eastern Star service Sunday at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Rick Snyder officiating. Interment will be in Independence Cemetery in Defiance County.
Memorials may be made to the Grand Council Royal and Select Masons of Ohio; Diabetic Camp for Children; or to the Diabetic Fund.

Edward John Buchsteiner

WEST BEND, Wis. - Edward John Buchsteiner, 71, of West Bend, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006.
Born Aug. 12, 1934, he was the son of Bessie (Maytum) Gardner and John Buchsteiner. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the state of Wisconsin. He had served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Surviving are sisters, Mrs. Richard Hardy of Reedsburg and Carole Buchsteiner of Madison; a brother, Richard (and wife, Sherry) Buchsteiner of Bryan, Ohio; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald Buchsteiner.
Graveside services will be held at the National Cemetery in Quantico, Va. Arrangements are by the Schmitt Funeral Home, West Bend.
