Fern E. Lauber
(1919 - 2006)
ARCHBOLD - Fern E. Lauber, 87, of Archbold, died early Sunday morning, Feb. 19, 2006, at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold, where she had resided since Dec. 16, 2004.
Born Feb. 2, 1919, near Archbold, to Elizabeth (Godshall) and William J. Rupp, she married Kenneth Lauber and he preceded her in death on Dec. 23, 1983.
A lifelong resident of the Archbold area, she was a homemaker and did volunteer work for many years.
She was a member of the Evangelical Mennonite Church in Archbold.
Surviving are three sons, John (and wife, Susan) Lauber of Toulouse, France, Jerry (Neal) Lauber of Charlotte, N.C. and Keith Lauber of Bryan; two daughters, Brenda Dickinson of New York, N.Y. and Mrs. Ben (Karen) Smith of Charlotte, N.C.; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, were her parents; a grandson; four brothers, John Rupp, Ervin W. Rupp, Vernon Rupp and William Rupp; and two sisters, Viola Quillet and Betty Rupp.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4-9 p.m. in the Short Funeral Home in Archbold.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Evangelical Mennonite Church in Archbold with Pastors Brad Bame, Stuart Rex and Charles Zimmerman to officiate. Graveside services will precede at 10 a.m. in the Lauber Hill Cemetery near Archbold.
Memorials may be made to Hospice, The Caring Way, of Williams and Fulton Counties or to the Evangelical Mennonite Church.
Merrill W. Haines
(1912 - 2006)
DEMING, N.M. - Merrill W. Haines, 93, of Deming, N.M. and a longtime Montpelier, Ohio, area resident, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, at Mimbres Memorial Hospital in Deming.
Born Sept. 26, 1912, near Montpelier, he was the son of Ida J. (Bauer) and Lewis Haines. A Bridgewater Township farmer for over 40 years, he and his wife, Mary, relocated to Deming in 1973.
He enjoyed his retirement in Deming and was the first director of the Deming Senior Citizens Center when it was established. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Surviving are two sons, Robert Haines of Anchorage, Alaska, and John (and wife, Barbara) Haines of Cincinnati, Ohio; three grandchildren; three brothers, Lester Haines of Montpelier, Ohio, Harold (Rose) Haines of Mentor, Ohio and Forrest (Ruth) Haines of Geneva, Ohio; and two sisters, Gladys Balough of Mentor and Mrs. Dwight (Laura Jean) Klein of Palm City, Fla.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Mary Elizabeth Haines; a brother, Lewis Haines; and a sister, Loretta Barrett.
Visitation will be held Tuesday in Baca's Funeral Chapel, Deming.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Funeral Chapel with Virginia King, C.L.P. to officiate. Burial will be in Mt. View Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
E. Margene Perry
(1924 - 2006)
EDGERTON - E. Margene Perry, 81, of Edgerton, died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, at her home after an illness of three years.
Born Sept. 1, 1924, at Defiance County near Edgerton, to Agnes M. (Miller) and Lionel A. Dietsch, she married L. Wayne Perry on May 20, 1944, in Edgerton, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 11, 1991.
A homemaker and caterer, she was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Edgerton where she was a religious education teacher for 25 years.
A Eucharistic minister, she was a member of the Rosary Altar Society, the Toledo Diocesan Council of Catholic Women Board and St. Catherine's Study Club. She was also a member of the Women of the Moose, Farm Bureau Council and a Williams County Soil and Water District Board member and R.C. and D.
Surviving are six sons, Stanley (and wife, Konnie) Perry, Edward (Lori Balser) Perry, Hugh (Jane) Perry and Monte (Jackie) Perry, all of Edgerton and Tod (Ann) Perry and Lionel (Wendy Miller) Perry, both of Hicksville; five daughters, Angela Kennerk of Edgerton, Mrs. Don (Candace) Conley of Edisto Beach, S.C., Jestine Schmitt of Monroe, N.C., Mrs. Darrin (Mary) Jones of Edgerton and Mrs. Jeff (Beth) Winzeler of Edgerton; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Bob (Charlene) Nye of Edgerton; 30 grandchildren; 17 stepgrandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 13 stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, Ubald (Frances) Dietsch of Edgerton; and a special friend, Bill Camp of Hicksville. She was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Perry; a grandson, Tom Kennerk; a granddaughter, Alecia Pike; a brother, Meredith Dietsch; and two sisters, Kathryn Flegal and Ucharista Maxwell. Visitation will be held today from 4-8 p.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton, and after 2 p.m. on Tuesday with a scripture service to be held at 8:30 p.m.
Services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary Catholic Church in Edgerton with Father Stephen Schroeder to officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Edgerton.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary's School in Edgerton or to Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers Hospice Care.
Alice (Malone) Riddle
(1909 - 2006)
HOBART, Ind. - Alice B. Riddle, 96, of Hobart, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006. Born July 11, 1909, at Clio, Mich., to Margaret Elizabeth (Edward) and William Wilbur Malone, she married Charles Riddle on July 18, 1929, at Bryan, Ohio, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 15, 1971.
A homemaker, she had grown up in Montpelier, Ohio.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Clara) Ramer and Freda Riddle, both of Hobart; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Retha Letner of Montpelier, Ohio.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter and four brothers, Carl, Earl, Clarence and infant William W. Malone.
Funeral services were held Feb. 14 at the Rees Funeral Home, Hobart, with burial at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Hobart.
Carl William Egler Sr.
(1950 - 2006)
STRYKER - Carl William Egler Sr., 55, of Stryker, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006, at his residence.
The son of Ruby (Snodgrass) and Duane W. Egler, he was born Sept. 18, 1950, at Defiance. He was married to Rosanne Sauder on May 7, 1983, and she survives.
A member of Archbold United Methodist Church, he was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Defiance Commandery Knights Templar 30, Knight of the York Cross of Honor, Omega Lodge-Defiance, Ensawocsa Lodge-Defiance, Oc-Co-Nox-Ee Lodge-Defiance, Tallceaders, High-12, Valley of Toledo Scottish Rite and Angola-Yeoman of York. He was also a past patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, and was employed as a custodian at Northeastern Local Schools.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are four sons, Thomas Egler at home, Terry Egler of Bryan, Carl W. Egler Jr. of Jewell and Matthew Egler of Defiance; a daughter, April Egler of Texas ; his parents, who reside at Jewell; three brothers, David Egler of Defiance, Ronald Egler of Jewell and Daniel Egler of Defiance; four sisters, Connie Grimes of Reno, Nev., Diana Smith of Paulding, Rebecca Loop of Defiance and Sara Mordaunt of Fredericksburg, Texas ; and seven grandchildren. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-9 p.m. at the Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home in Defiance. There will be an Eastern Star service Sunday at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Rick Snyder officiating. Interment will be in Independence Cemetery in Defiance County.
Memorials may be made to the Grand Council Royal and Select Masons of Ohio; Diabetic Camp for Children; or to the Diabetic Fund.
Edward John Buchsteiner
WEST BEND, Wis. - Edward John Buchsteiner, 71, of West Bend, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006.
Born Aug. 12, 1934, he was the son of Bessie (Maytum) Gardner and John Buchsteiner. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the state of Wisconsin. He had served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Surviving are sisters, Mrs. Richard Hardy of Reedsburg and Carole Buchsteiner of Madison; a brother, Richard (and wife, Sherry) Buchsteiner of Bryan, Ohio; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald Buchsteiner.
Graveside services will be held at the National Cemetery in Quantico, Va. Arrangements are by the Schmitt Funeral Home, West Bend.
Anthony W. "Pete" Paxton
(1946 - 2006)
Anthony W. 'Pete' Paxton, 60, of Bryan, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2006, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Prescott, Ariz., where he was a patient for several days.
Born Feb. 15, 1946, in Bryan, he was the son of Georgia Lenora (Woerst) and Leland Lavon Paxton.
A veteran of the United States Navy, serving during the Vietnam Conflict, he had been employed at Bohn Aluminum in Butler, Ind. for 10 years prior to his retirement in 2003.
He was a member of the Gold Prospectors Association of America (GPPA).
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Terry (Dawn) Scalf of Bryan and Mrs. Steve (Angela) Funk of Toledo; a son, Tim (and fiancee, Heather Gamble) Paxton of Edgerton; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jerald Lee Smith in California and Johnny Keith Stewart of Sylvania; and a sister.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Leland Lavon "Joe" Paxton Jr. and his parents.
Visitation will be Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. in the Krill Funeral Home-Bryan.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Ronald McClure to officiate. Burial will follow in Fountain Grove Cemetery, Bryan, with graveside 
military rites conducted by Bryan Veteran of Foreign Wars Post No. 2484.
Memorials may be made to the Veterans Administration Medical Center-Hospice Care in Prescott, Ariz.
