John W. Greenawalt 02/23/2004

John W. Greenawalt, age 81, of Township Road 164, Cardington died Monday evening, February 23, 2004 at his home. He was born on July 9, 1922 in Larue to the late Charles C. and Edna M. (Wilmuth) Greenawalt.

John was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of American Legion Post # 710 in Marengo, the Morrow County Farm Bureau, and was affiliated with the First United Methodist Church.

John married the former Lilly B. Mattix and she preceded him in death on August 10, 2000. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Louise Castle and two brothers, Don and Paul Greenawalt.

Survivors include daughter; Joan Aird of Panhandle, TX,; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth 'Betty' and James Grooms and son-in-law, William Castle all of Cardington, twelve grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Friends may call Thursday, February 26, 2004, from 5-8PM at the Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington where the funeral service will be held Friday at 10AM. Pastor John  Jackson will officiate and the burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery. The Jenkins-Vaughan American Legion Post #97 will provide full military honors.

Margaret L. Corwin 02/21/2004

Margaret L. Corwin, age 91, beloved grandmother, was called to her heavenly home on Saturday February 21, 2004. She loved the Lord and will be missed by her family and many friends.

She was a devoted member and Sunday school teacher at the Salem United Methodist for 67 years. She dedicated her whole life to taking care of her family and friends when health care was needed.

Margaret enjoyed playing cards, cooking, gardening, traveling and sewing. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She was born on October 12, 1912 in Marion, Ohio to the late Oscar and Jennie Bell (Showers) Kelley. In addition to her parents Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Charles P. Corwin, daughter Mary Davis, sister Virginia Ault, and brother Marion Kelley.

She is survived by her son-in-law James T. Davis of Cardington; 3 grandsons and their wives Steve and Linda Davis of Galion, Randy Davis of Cardington and Terry and Laurie Davis of Richwood; great grandchildren Lori and Mike McGee of Cardington, Nikki and Dave Lambert of North Canton Jennifer and Steve Spitler,, Andrew Davis and his fiancé April LaVenia and Steve Davis all of Galion, Ben Davis of Cardington and Matthew Davis of Richwood; great-great-grandchildren  Taylor McGee and Alexandra Spitler; 1 brother and his wife Henry and Helen Kelley of Bellefontaine; 1 sister Marie Long and son Bradley of Cardington; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington on Tuesday February 24, 2004 from 2-4 and 6-8PM where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11AM with Pastors Jerrie Bell-Brion and Jeff Grant officiating. Burial will follow in Glendale cemetery with her great grandsons and Devon Shaffer serving as pallbearers.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the American Heart Association in care of Gompf Funeral Home.

Marion E. Kelley

MARION -- Marion E. Kelley, 79, of Marion, died at 12:35 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at Marion General Hospital.

Born April 4, 1924, in Marion, he was the son of the late Oscar W. and Jennie B. (Showers) Kelley.

On Oct. 19, 1946, in Marion, he married Alberta (Corwin) Kelley, and she preceded him in death on July 28, 2003.

He formerly worked at Huber Corp. and then did maintenance at Marion Rotary Towers for 12 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

He is survived by four daughters, Sue (Jerry) Whaley of Marion, Marsha (Lynn) Armstrong of Marion, Chris (Kevin) Chesser of New Bloomington, and Mary Knapp of Marion; 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Henry Kelley of West Liberty; two sisters, Margaret Corwin and Marie Long, both of Cardington; and a special friend of the family, Linda Setters. He was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Ault; a granddaughter, Kelly Sue Whaley; and a son-in-law, Jonathan Crawford.

The funeral is at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at Boyd Funeral Home with the Rev. Marcellus de Oliveira officiating. Burial to follow in Marion Cemetery where Marion County United Veterans Council will conduct a military service. Friends may call 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to Quality of Life Hospice.

Bob Doubikin 12/07/2004

Bob Doubikin, age 61, of Township Road 124, Mount Gilead, died Tuesday, December 7, 2004 at the Arthur James Cancer Hospital in Columbus. Bob was born in Delaware County on July 13, 1943 to the late Flavis M. and Beatrice M (Hershey) Doubikin.

Bob was a 1961 graduate of Western High School in Parma, MI. He worked as a self-employed heavy equipment operator and contractor. Bob was a member of the Richland Road Church of Christ; he was an avid woodworker, fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

On May 9, 1964, in Clarksville, GA he married the former Linda Crum. She survives in Mt. Gilead.

Other survivors include six children and their spouses, Jeff & Rustye Doubikin of Edison, Jolene Nelson of Mt. Gilead, Gina Doubikin and Sonny Minturn, Brett and Candida Doubikin, and Stacy and Jessie Doubikin all of Cardington, Marisa and Curtis Tuggle of South Amherst; 14 grandchildren; one brother, Dan Doubikin of Hilliard, and 2 sisters and brother-in-laws, Dixie and Bob King and Billie and Phil Webb all of Parma, MI.

Friends may call Thursday, December 9, 2004 from 6-8PM at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington where the funeral service will be held on Friday December 10, 2004 at 11AM. Russell Howard will officiate and burial will follow in Glendale Union Cemetery.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Arthur James Cancer Hospital at The Ohio State University.

Randy J Schuman 11/19/2004

Randy J Schuman, age 46, of Center Street in Cardington, passed away Friday, November 19, 2004. He was born on April 7, 1958, in Georgetown, Ohio. His parents are Joseph and Mary Schuman who survive him in Mt. Gilead.

On October 15, 1998, in Marion, Ohio he married the former Teresa Neely and she survives him.

Randy graduated from Cardington High School in 1976, served in the United States Marine Corps and attended the Church of Christ in Mt. Gilead. He is also a retired Volunteer Firefighter.

In addition to his parents and wife, Randy is survived by 2 sons, Charles (Jake) and his wife Belynda Schuman of Cardington and Casey Schuman, at home; 1 step daughter Stacy and her husband David Bruns of Cardington; 1 brother Steve and his wife Teresa Schuman of Mt. Gilead; 1 sister Susan and her husband Dean Melcher of Kokomo, Indiana; and 4 grandchildren.

Friends may call at Gompf Funeral Home, in Cardington on Tuesday November 23,2004 from 5-8PM and Wednesday, November 24 from 11AM-Noon where services will be held at Noon with Russell Howard of the Richland Road Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in Glendale Union Cemetery.

Marlene Bowman 11/09/2004

Marlene Bowman, age 60, of Park Street in Cardington, passed away Tuesday November 9,2004 at St. Ann's hospital in Westerville. She was born on May 11, 1944 in Teaberry, KY.

On June 6,1964, in Wayne Michigan, she married Fred Bowman and he preceded her in death.

Throughout her lifetime Marlene attended the Baptist Church and worked as a nurse's aid.

Marlene in survived by; one daughter Lorna and her husband Paul Greenawalt of Marengo; two sons, Michael and his wife Donna Bowman of Garden City Michigan and Robert Bowman and his girlfriend Bobbie Jo Hudgel of Marengo; 9 grandchildren; 1 brother-in-law William 'Butch' Saum of Marengo;and1 brother Buford Ray of Jackson, Michigan..

In addition to her husband Marlene was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Lorna Adams and a sister Carlene

Friends called at Gompf Funeral Service in Cardington of Thursday November 11, 2004 from 10-11AM where services were held at 11AM with Pastor John  Jackson of the Cardington First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was Friday November 12 at 11AM at Glenwood Cemetery in Wayne Michigan.
