Glenola M. Strohl 11/09/2004

Glenola M. Strohl, age 91, of Co. Rd. 166, Cardington, passed away Tuesday evening November 9,2004 at her residence. She was born on February 22,1913 in Waldo to the late Burdette Hoke.

On May 4, 1935 she married Clem H. Strohl and he preceded her in death on June 21, 1990.

Glenola was a member of Center Church in Cardington, where she worked with the Missionary group making quilts. She was also a member of the homemakers group.

Glenola is survived by 2 daughters; Betty and Don Schaffer of St. Louis, and Janet Bowersmith of Edison; 4 sons; Ralph and Roberta Strohl of St. Louis, William and Rhetta Strohl of Marion, Donald and Sherry Strohl and Roger Strohl all of Cardington; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday November 12, 2004 at 2PM with Pastor Fred Caldwell of Center United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Glendale Union Cemetery.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider Hospice of Morrow County or the Crippled Children's Foundation in Care of the Gompf Funeral Home 440 South Center St. Cardington, Ohio 43315, in lieu of flowers.

Ethel I. McCoy 10/31/2004

Ethel I. McCoy, age 83, of Lincoln Court in Cardington died Sunday afternoon, October 31, 2004 in the Woodside Village Care Center. She was born December 10, 1920 in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late Lafe and Lillian (Hopkins) Reynolds.

On November 14, 1939 in Greenup, KY Ethel married William B. McCoy and he preceded her in death on August 7, 1992.

Survivors include one son, David McCoy in Florida, three daughters, Sarah Jean McCoy of Ashley, Patricia Lynn Knapp of Cardington, and Kimberly Sue Klein in Florida; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jean Green of Hillsboro.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ethel was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann Loudermilk, three brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call Tuesday, November 2, 2004 from 6-8PM at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington where funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 3, 2004 at 11AM. Reverend John  Jackson will officiate and burial will follow in Marengo Cemetery.

Roger Axthelm 10/19/2004

Roger Axthelm, age 56, of Denzer Road, Waldo died Tuesday morning, October 19, 2004 at his residence. He was born December 16, 1947 in Richland Township, Marion County.

Roger was a 1966 graduate of Mount Gilead High School and was affiliated with the Church of Christ. Roger worked as the Supervisor for Grounds, Maintenance and Transportation for the River Valley School District for 14 years. He loved gardening and his home was his life.

On July 22, 1972 in Mount Gilead he married the former Mary Jo Blake and she survives in Waldo.

Additional survivors included two brothers, Edward and Betty Jo Axthelm of Cardington and Fred Axthelm of Indiana, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by his mother, Emma B. (Collmer) Axthelm.

Friends may call Thursday, October 21, 2004 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington where the funeral service will be held Friday, October 22, 2004 at 11AM with Chaplin Daniel Kiger officiating. Burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider Quality of Life Hospice or the River Valley Memorial Scholarship Fund for Vocational Education, that is being established in Roger's name, in care of the Gompf Funeral Service, 440 South Center Street, Cardington, Ohio 43315.

Elizabeth M. Ruggles 04/06/2005

Elizabeth M. Ruggles, age 76, of Cardington died Wednesday morning, April 6, 2005 at the Extended Care Unit of Morrow County Hospital. She was born August 14, 1928 in Westfield Township, Morrow County to the late John and Annie (Davis) Helman.

On July 14, 1943, in Cardington, she married Ralph E. Ruggles, Sr. and he preceded her in death on May 25, 1985.

Elizabeth was a housewife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She helped Ralph with the farm until going to work outside the home. She worked at the Morrow County Hospital in housekeeping and she had worked at the Derrick Motel and The Green Parrot as a cook. She also worked in the factory at Ranco in Delaware. In addition she worked at Stahls where she always brought in Apple Dumplings for everyone. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of the Jenkins-Vaughan Unit # 97.

Elizabeth enjoyed cooking and baking. Many friends and family members enjoyed her apple dumplings and noodles. Morrow County Hospital employees enjoyed her goodies while she lived at Morrow County Extended Care. She also enjoyed playing bingo, going to the fair and betting a couple of dollars on the horses. She was a lifelong resident of the Cardington and Ashley area.

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Jim (Judy) Foster of Mt Gilead, Mrs. Frank (Geraldine) Foltz of Cardington, Mrs. Joe (Saundra) Wiley of Missouri and Mrs. Allen (Bonnie) Bishop of Cardington; two sons, Ralph and Marcia Ruggles, Jr. of Mansfield and Gary and Janet Ruggles of Cardington; a brother, Donald Helman of Mt. Gilead: three sisters, Annette Ebert of Mt. Gilead, Viola Fraizer of Nebraska and Betty Ruggles of Ashley ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and a long time neighbor friend, Amy Carroll.

In addition to her parents and husband, Elizabeth was also preceded in death by one great-great granddaughter Tina Louise Lowther; one sister, Ruth Freeman; and three brothers, George, Elwin and Richard Helman.

Friends may call Sunday, April 10, 2005 from 2-6PM at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington where funeral services will be held on Monday, April 11, 2005 at 11AM. Pastor Alvin Bunting will officiate and burial will follow in Glendale Union Cemetery.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Central Ohio Diabetes. Association or Hospice of Morrow County in care of the funeral home.

Lucille Ackerman 03/28/2005

Lucille Ackerman, age 75, of Newmans-Cardington Road East, Cardington died Monday, March 28, 2005, at her residence. She was born May 2, 1929 in Richland Twp, Marion County to the late Edward and Vera (Klingel) Heimlich.

Lucille was a 1947 graduate of Cardington HS. She had previously been employed at J.C Penney and also was a homemaker. Lucille was an active member of St John Lutheran (Windfall) Church having been in the church choir, the Women of ELCA, the Piecemakers and she had also served as a Sunday school teacher.

One June 12, 1948 at the Windfall Church she married Carl G. Ackerman and he survives at their Cardington address.

Survivors also include two daughters and son in laws, Donna J. and Richard McGinnis and Carol A. and Edward Wahl all of Cardington; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; three brothers and their wives, Eugene and Mollie Heimlich of Milford, Kenneth and Marlene Heimlich of Cardington and Vernon and Phyllis Heimlich of Waldo.

Friends may call Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington from 2-4PM and 6-8PM. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 31, 2005 at 11AM at St John Lutheran Church on Newmans Cardington Road. Pastor Donald Pletcher and Reverend Edward Wahl will officiate and burial will follow in St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider St John Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, St John Lutheran Church Piecemaker group or Heartland Hospice in care of Gompf Funeral Service.

Edith M. Carpenter 03/25/2005

Edith M. Carpenter, age 86, of County Road 170, Marengo, died Friday morning, March 25, 2005 at Woodside Village Care Center in Mt. Gilead. She was born November 1, 1918 in Marengo Ohio to the late Delbert and Florence (Metzger) Ulrey.

In 1938 Edith graduated from Marengo High School and went on to work as an assembler at North Electric in Galion for over 10 years.

On March 16, 1941 in Marietta, OH, Edith married Wesley A. Carpenter and he preceded her in death on December 24, 2004.

Survivors include two daughters; Judith Bowers of Cardington and Beverly Carpenter of Marengo; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents and her husband Edith was preceded in death by 3 sisters and 1 brother.

Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at 11 AM at Fulton Cemetery.
