David Jonathan Boyer
Died: Sunday, August 24, 2003
Age: 34

COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. — David Jonathan Boyer, 34, a former Columbia City resident, currently of Van Wert, died at 2 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana where he was admitted late Thursday.

He was born Dec. 10, 1968, in Fort Wayne, Ind., the son of the late William E. and Mary Ann (Jackson) Boyer. On Sept. 30, 1999, in Van Wert, he married Sherrie Renee Rhoades, who survives in Van Wert.

Mr. Boyer was a truck driver for Goodwill Industries of Northeastern Indiana, Fort Wayne, Ind., and was a member of the Van Wert Eagles Lodge. He attended North Manchester High School through the 12th grade. He spent his lifetime in Fort Wayne, Columbia City, Pierceton, Sidney, North Manchester, back to Fort Wayne, Ind., Convoy and lastly in Van Wert.

Other survivors include two sisters, Rose Ann (Allan) Rhoades of Convoy and Marsha Smith of Van Wert; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Deborah Jon Boyer.

Funeral services will be held at noon (EDT) Thursday at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, Ind. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. (EDT) Thursday at IOOF Cemetery, Convoy.

Calling hours are 2-9 p.m. (EDT) Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Neil Hammons of Trinity Friends Church, Van Wert.

Memorial donations may be given in Mr. Boyer’s memory to either the National Kidney Foundation of Indiana, Ind., or the American Diabetes. Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Robert Jon Wood
Died: Saturday, August 23, 2003
Age: 22

Robert Jon Wood, 22, of Van Wert, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003.

He was born Feb. 6, 1981, in Van Wert, the son of Charles Wood, who survives in Homestead, Fla. and Brenda (Cantrell) Wood, who survives in Van Wert.

Other survivors include a stepfather, John Linser Jr. of Van Wert; a stepmother, Joyce Wood of Homestead, Fla.; a son, Gavin Cross of Van Wert; two brothers, Charles "Doug" Wood II, Zachary Ryon Baker, both of Van Wert; two sisters, Teresa Michele Wood and Ashley Denise Wood, both of Van Wert; three nephews, Shae Baker, Chaise Dawson and Cody Wood, all of Van Wert; a niece, Skylar Wood of Van Wert, and several cousins, including Matthew Wood of Van Wert.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, the Rev. David Ray officiating. Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Burial will take place in Woodland Cemetery.

Glen W. Bolenbaugh
Died: Saturday, August 23, 2003
Age: 69

OHIO CITY — Glen W. Bolenbaugh, 69, of Ohio City died at 11:25 p.m. (EDT) Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind.

He was born Aug. 30, 1933, in Ohio City, the son of the late Clarence B. and Rea A. (Taylor) Bolenbaugh. On June 19, 1995, he married Joyce B. Bell, who survives in Ohio City.

Mr. Bolenbaugh retired from Borden Cheese Co. after 31 years of service. A U.S. Army veteran, he was a member of Ohio City American Legion, Ohio City, and attended Ohio City Church of God, Ohio City.

Other survivors include a daughter, Linda (Bill) Germann of Celina; two stepchildren, Peggy (George) Lines of Lima and David Stanley of Macon, Ga.; a brother, Robert (Lois) Bolenbaugh of Ohio City; two sisters, Betty Archer of Van Wert and Mary Bigham of Ohio City; 11 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Glen W. Bolenbaugh Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Ohio City Church of God, Ohio City, the Rev. Matt Braun officiating. Private family burial will be held at a later date with military graveside services to be conducted by the Ohio City American Legion.

Visitation is an hour prior to service time Thursday at the church.

Preferred memorial is the American Diabetes. Association.

Edith M. Frey
Died: Friday, August 22, 2003
Age: 81

MENDON — Edith M. Frey, 81, of Mendon died at 12:13 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at her residence.

She was born Oct. 5, 1921, in Carroll, the daughter of the late Elmer and Mary (Cunningham) Campbell. On Aug. 11, 1945, she married Leroy E. Frey, who preceded her in death on April 27, 1989.

Mrs. Frey retired from Drake & Shaffer Auto Sales as a bookkeeper and had worked at the Mendon Library before she became ill.

Survivors include:

Son — Eddie L. (Linda) Frey of Ohio City

Daughters — Connie (Billy) Wilson of Louisville, Miss., Nancy (Ron) Langwell of Fort Madison, Iowa, Cindy (Jerry) Woten of Celina and Beverly (Mike) Springs of Imlay City, Mich.

Brother — John Campbell of Sycamore

Sisters — Margaret Serean of Delaware, Ohio, and Leta Weaver of Tiffin

Thirteen grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Campbell, and a sister, Mildred Mulholland.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Resthaven Memory Gardens, St. Marys, the Rev. Randy Christian officiating.

Calling hours are 2-4 p.m. Sunday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Mendon.

Corbin J. Shaffer
Died: Wednesday, August 20, 2003
Age: 4

Corbin J. Shaffer, 4 months old, of Van Wert died at 11:02 p.m. (EDT) Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind.

He was born April 10, 2003, in Van Wert, the son of Neil and Teresa (Kreischer) Shaffer.

Other survivors include four brothers, Luke, Logan, Connor and Jared Shaffer, all of Van Wert; a sister, Sierra Shaffer of Van Wert; maternal grandparents, Max and Janet Kreischer of Van Wert, and paternal grandmother, Patricia Shaffer.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Charles Shaffer.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church, Van Wert, the Rev. Dillon Staas officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.

Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert.

Preferred memorial is First United Methodist Church, Van Wert.

Nancy A. Agler
Died: Wednesday, August 20, 2003
Age: 52

Nancy A. Agler, 52, of Van Wert died at 9:35 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at Vancrest Health Care Center, Van Wert.

She was born March 26, 1951, in Lima, the daughter of Rita (Tegenkamp) McCabe of Delphos and the late William F. McCabe. On Aug. 7, 1971, she married Steven A. Agler, who survives.

Mrs. Agler worked at Teleflex Corp. in Van Wert for eight years. She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Van Wert, and the Delphos Eagles Aerie Auxiliary.

Other survivors include her children, Derek Agler of Van Wert and Tricia (Terry) Myers of Ohio City; two brothers, Thomas (Kathy) McCabe of Delphos and James McCabe of Toledo, and two grandchildren, Kaleb and Tanner Myers.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert, the Rev. Charles Obinwa officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Delphos.

Calling hours are 4-8 p.m. Saturday, 1-6 p.m. Sunday and an hour prior to service Monday at the funeral home where a parish wake service will be; held at 7:45 p.m. Saturday evening.

Preferred memorials are Vancrest Health Care Center Activities Fund or Community Health Professionals of Van Wert.
