Robert L. Zent
Died: Wednesday, August 20, 2003
Age: 50
WARREN, Ind. — Robert L. Zent, 50, of Warren, died at 5:35 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at Markle Health Care Center, Markle, Ind.
He was born Aug. 1, 1953, in Cincinnati, the son of Velma (Davis) Zent of Markle and the late Walter Zent.
Mr. Zent worked at M&S Metal in Huntington, Ind., for many years.

Sisters — Kathy (John) Gordon of Muncie, Ind., and Elaine (Tony) Warren of Morrow, Ga.
Several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Harter & Son Memorial Chapel, Delphos, the Rev. Joe Sumwalt officiating. Burial will be in Venedocia Cemetery, Venedocia.
Calling hours are 1-3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Carl E. Tomlinson
Died: Wednesday, August 20, 2003
Age: 90
Carl E. Tomlinson, 90, of rural Van Wert died at 5:55 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at Vancrest Health Care Center, Van Wert.
He was born Feb. 16, 1913, in Van Wert County, the son of the late Clarence A. and Mae (Poling) Tomlinson. On Sept. 12, 1936, he married Katherine Giessler, who preceded him in death on July 24, 2001.
Mr. Tomlinson retired as vice president, treasurer and director of Central Mutual and All America Insurance Companies, working with the company for 47 years. He also was the treasurer and director of Central America Finance Company. During that period he served on various state and national insurance committees.
Carl also served as a 29-year director of the Van Wert Community First Bank and Trust and as board chairman for several years, served as director, president and co-chairman of the annual fund drive of the Van Wert County United Fund, was a trustee of the Van Wert Area Chamber of Commerce and served as chairman of its Ways and Means Committee. He was a trustee and chairman of the Van Wert County Hospital Board of Trustees and also served as interim administrator for the Van Wert County Hospital. As a member of the Van Wert Rotary Club, he served as a trustee and as its president and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a Farm Bureau Council member and was a member of the Grange for more than 50 years. For several years, he served as a deputy master of the Ohio State Grange.
He and his wife were co-leaders of two trips to the Holy Lands. In St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Harrison Township, he served as a choir member, church school teacher and superintendent and a member of the men’s fellowship. Carl also served as a deacon, an elder and president of the church council.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Ann Schroeder of Defiance and Eleanor E. (David) Focht of Allentown, Pa., five grandchildren, Karl Schroeder, Paul Schroeder, Julie Brown, Eric Focht and Brian Focht, and seven great-grandchildren, Keely, Ryan, Ty, Kelsey and Rachel Schroeder, and Brittany and Alyssa Focht.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Van Wert County, the Rev. Jerry Flueckiger officiating. A private family burial will be held at Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.
Calling hours are noon to 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31 at the church.
Preferred memorials are St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Van Wert County Hospital or charity of donor’s choice.

Raymond Joel Stuttler
Died: Tuesday, August 19, 2003
Age: 77
PAYNE — Raymond Joel Stuttler, 77, died at 1:30 a.m. (EDT) Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at his residence.
He was born March 13, 1926, in Scott, the son of the late George H. and Ella May (Moyer) Stuttler. In 1977, he married Mary Dix, who preceded him in death on Nov. 23, 1981.
Mr. Stuttler was formerly employed by Stokely Canning Plant.

Stepsons — Leatus Dix of Payne, Randy Dix of Worstville, Keith Dix, Willard Dix and Robin Dix, all of San Jose, Calif., Freemond Dix of Phoenix, Ariz., Kenny Dix of Bryan, Melvin Dix of Sherwood and Raymond Eckard of Gila Bend, Ariz.
Stepdaughter — Margaret Dix of Cecil
Many stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Stuttler, and two stepsons, Arthur Dix and Richard Dix.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. (EDT) Friday at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding. Burial will be in Scott Cemetery.
Calling hours are 2-6 p.m. (EDT) today and 9 a.m. to time of service Friday at the funeral home.
W. Josephine Myers
Died: Tuesday, August 19, 2003
Age: 87
W. Josephine Myers, 87, of Wren, a lifelong resident of the area, died at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at Vancrest Nursing Home, Van Wert.
She was born Oct. 14, 1915, in Van Wert County, the daughter of the late C. Clyde and Anna Wilma (Kever) Jones. On Oct. 2, 1938, in United Brethren Church in Wren, she married George E. Myers, who preceded her in death on April 15, 1972.
Mrs. Myers was a homemaker and had been a sales clerk at L.S. Ayres. She was a member of Calvary Evangelical Church, Van Wert, and the Wren Garden Club.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Ann (John) Hileman of Rockford, Mrs. Carol Burriss of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Karen Jean Myers of Wren; a son, Stan (Ann) Myers of Rockford, Mich.; two sisters, M. Marcile Jones and Pauline Jones, both of Van Wert; three brothers, a twin brother, Floyd Jones of Convoy, Howard Jones of Ohio City and Leon Jones of Defiance; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Daniel C., Lloyd and Harold Jones, and a great-granddaughter, Sara Bowman.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. (Indiana time) Saturday at Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Ind., the Rev. Raymond Feeck officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Tabor Cemetery.
Calling hours are 1-8 p.m. (Indiana time) Friday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are Radio Bible Class in Grand Rapids, Mich., Van Wert Visiting Nurses & Hospice, or Calvary Evangelical Church in Van Wert.
Edward E. Garlock
Died: Monday, August 18, 2003
Age: 74
FORT JENNINGS — Edward E. Garlock, 74, of Fort Jennings died at 11:45 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 5, 1929, in Detroit, Mich., the son of the late Lester and Pat (Ruthkowski) Garlock. On May 28, 1949, he married Jean Weaver.
Mr. Garlock retired from General Motors as a traffic manager.
Survivors include:
Sons — Michael Garlock of Florida and Edward T. (Tanya) Garlock of Ohio
Daughters — Diane (Ken) Bendele of Ottoville, Judy (Hugh) Hughes of Michigan, Jean (Marty) Rhodes of North Carolina, Tracey Garlock of Cloverdale and Janet (Dan) Kwaiser of Michigan
Eighteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Tom Garlock, a sister, Pat Rosol, and a grandson, Nathan Bendele.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Catholic Church, Ottoville.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at Harter & Son Funeral Home, Delphos, where a parish wake will be held at 7:30 p.m.
