Isabelle V. Grew
Died: Monday, August 18, 2003
Age: 72

Isabelle V. Grew, 72, of Van Wert died at 11:25 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, at Van Wert Manor Nursing Home, Van Wert.

She was born Feb. 15, 1931, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of the late William Adair and Alice (Johnson) Adair Laux. On Sept. 9, 1951, in Brooklyn, she married Clair C. Grew, who survives.

Mrs. Grew worked at New York Life in New York, N.Y., and was a receptionist for Dr. Robert Laing in Van Wert. She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert.

Other survivors include two sons, Gary (Pamela) Grew of New Knoxville and Michael (Jane) Grew of Van Wert; one daughter, Laura Sanderson of Van Wert; one brother, William (Rose) Adair of Rome, N.Y., and seven grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Van Wert. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.

Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert, where a wake service is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Preferred memorial is Alzheimer’s Association.

Betty R. Combs
Died: Sunday, August 17, 2003
Age: 75

BLUFFTON, Ind. — Betty R. Combs, 75, of Bluffton died at 11:25 a.m. (Indiana time) Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003, at Bluffton Regional Med Center.

She was born Jan. 25, 1928, in Bluffton, the daughter of the late Henry and Rosetta (Jones) Bailey. On Oct. 13, 1956, in Bluffton, she married Eugene Combs, who preceded her in death on July 9, 1991.

Mrs. Combs worked in the Wells Community Hospital kitchen from 1959-62, Caylor Nickel Food service from 1959-62 and Kitco for 12 years.

Survivors include:

Children — Gerry Grogg and Sharon (Craig) Young, both of Convoy, Gayland Grogg, Philip Grogg, Duane Adams, Bonnie Grogg and Mona Jeannie Cronkhite, all of Bluffton, and Karen (Tim) Vondram of Fort Wayne, Ind.

Brother — Richard Betz of Grant, Mich.

Sisters — Thelma (Don) Rose of Muskegon, Mich., Lois Pence of Georgia, and Mrs. Donna Lewis and Mrs. Geraldine Kinsey, both of Bluffton

Eleven grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. (Indiana time) Wednesday at Goodwin Memorial Chapel, Bluffton, the Rev. Walter Graeflin officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Calling hours are 2-9 p.m. (Indiana time) today at the funeral home.

Mittie Jean Ley
Died: Sunday, August 17, 2003
Age: 78

Mittie Jean Ley, 78, of Van Wert died at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003, at her residence.

She was born May 20, 1925, in Winters, Texas, the daughter of the late Bill and Stella (Bridwell) Moore. On Oct. 22, 1944, she married Sidney Alford Ley, who preceded her in death on March 20, 2002.

Mrs. Ley worked at Aeroquip (Eaton) Corp. for 32 years. A member of First United Methodist Church and the Elks Lodge, both in Van Wert, she was an avid bowler and enjoyed line dancing and golf.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald A. (Melody) Ley of Columbus and Steven C. Ley of Wapakoneta; a daughter, Kimberly Y. Ayers of Van Wert; one sister, Cynthia Autrey of Temple, Texas ; five grandchildren, Jamee, Zach and Nicole Ayers and Derrick and Allison Ley, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ellis and Billy Moore.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert, the Rev. Paul W. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.

Calling hours are 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are Van Wert Hospice (CHP) or American Cancer Society.

Donna F. Wilson
Died: Sunday, August 17, 2003
Age: 88

Donna F. Wilson, 88, of Van Wert died at 5:05 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003, at Convoy Care Center, Convoy.

She was born Aug. 14, 1915, in Latty, the daughter of the late John A. and Gertrude E. (Gant) Rhoad. On Oct. 24, 1936, she married John Woodrow Wilson, who preceded her in death in 1973.

Mrs. Wilson was a homemaker. A member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Van Wert, she was formerly a member of the former Union Center United Methodist Church in Van Wert. She was also a member of the Ladies Aid Society of both churches and the Union Township Improvement Club.

Survivors include two sons, Donald R. (Madge) Wilson of Convoy and Larry G. (Christi) Wilson of Evansville, Ind.; one daughter, Linda J. (James) Willeford of New Weston; two brothers, John Rhoad of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Eugene (Mary) Rhoad of Haviland; a sister, Arlene Tyas of Van Wert; 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Gearhart, Mack & Jurczyk Funeral Home, Convoy, the Rev. Timothy Burden officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.

Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are Convoy Fire & EMS.

Gertrude "Gertie" Patton
Died: Friday, September 26, 2003
Age: 76

DELPHOS — Gertrude “Gertie” Patton, 76, of Delphos died at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, at Lima Manor Nursing Home.

Arrangements are incomplete at Harter & Son Funeral Home, Delphos.

Lucile Konetia (Ketzenbarger) Hepperly
Died: Friday, September 26, 2003
Age: 93

UPPER SANDUSKY — Lucile Konetia (Ketzenbarger) Hepperly, 93, of Fairhaven Community, Upper Sandusky, formerly of Van Wert, died at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, at Fairhaven Community. She had been in failing health for the past three months.

She was born June 11, 1910, in Union Township, Van Wert County, the daughter of the late George W. and Ida B. (Sherburn) Ketzenbarger. On Dec. 24, 1932, she married Delmer Burdette Hepperly, who preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 1989.

Mrs. Hepperly was retired. She had previously been an Avon representative, housewife and employed in farming. A graduate of Union High School in Van Wert County, she was a member of North Union Methodist Church in rural Van Wert and past member of the Union Township Grange. Lucile was a lifetime resident of Union Township until moving to Upper Sandusky in 1992.

Survivors include a foster son and daughter-in-law, William R. Booher and Sharon Booher of Nevada, Ohio; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Erma (Ketzenbarger) Gilbert, who died in 1966 at the age of 58.

Graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.

Calling hours are noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert.

Preferred memorial is North Union Methodist Church in Van Wert County.
