Randy L. Clemons 03/06/2005

Randy L. Clemons, age 49, of Cardington, died on Sunday March 6, 2005 in the Morrow County Hospital Emergency Room. He was born on May 5, 1955 to Leonard and Virginia (Ault) Clemons who survive in Cardington.

Randy was in the United State Marine Corps and was a certified technician for repairs on wheel chairs and scooters. He had a love for motorcycles, NASCAR and Wrestling. He also had lots of "courage".

In addition to his parents, Randy is survived by his soul mate and best friend, Jinny Clemons of North Lewisburg; three daughters; Angie Clemons of Powell, Ashley Morgan of KY and Harley Swinning of Bellefontaine; 2 grandsons; Austin and Alec Clemons at home; 1 brother and his wife, Ron and Joyce Clemons of Cardington; 4 sisters and their husbands, Pam Payne of Mt. Gilead, Patricia Rae and Ralph Oberkonz of Columbus, Robyn and Jeff Ruble of Bell Center and Rhonda Dee and Steve Maples of Marengo.

Friends may call at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington, Ohio on Thursday March 10, 2005 from 5-8PM where funeral services will be held on Friday at 11AM. Pastor Phil Hurlbert will officiate and burial will follow in Fulton Cemetery. Full military honors will be observed.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider making a donation to the family in care of the Gompf Funeral Home, 440 South Center Street, Cardington, OH 43315.

Virgil Mitchell Doughty 02/19/2005

Virgil Mitchell Doughty, age 83, of Dogwood Lane, Mt. Gilead, died Saturday morning February 19,2005 at Morrow County Hospital. He was born on June 17,1921 to the late William Marion and Sarah Elizabeth (Grossman) Doughty.

Virgil graduated from Harding High School in 1939 and worked at the Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield as a correction officer for 28 years. He was a member of the Ohio Archaeological Society and an avid American Indian historian and artifact collector.

On April 20, 1945 in Cardington, Ohio he married the former Wilda June Smith and she preceded him in death on February 6, 2002.

Virgil is survived by 2 daughters, Patricia J. Shaffer of Westerville and Debbie and Steven Noble of Mt. Gilead; step daughter Judith Appleman of Port Clinton and 1 step-son Gene Doughty of Mt. Gilead; 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Friends may call at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington on Monday February 21,2005 from 5-7PM where the funeral will be held on Tuesday at 2PM with Dr. Dennis Schultz of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Glendale Union Cemetery.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Mt. Gilead Seniors on Center or the Morrow County Society for Crippled Children and Adults in care of Gompf Funeral Home 440 South Center Street Cardington, Ohio 43315.

James L. Courtney 02/18/2005

James L. Courtney, age 70, of County Road 11, Cardington, OH, formerly of Butler, PA, died Friday afternoon February 18, 2005, at his residence. He was born November 14, 1934 in Butler County, PA to the late George and Ruth (Martsolf) Courtney.

James was a 1952 graduate of Butler Senior High School. He had retired as the Plant Superintendent from Perry Forge in Cranberry Township, PA where he had worked for 32 years. James was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Marion, of the Gideons International and had served in the US Army.

On June 17, 1960, in Prospect, PA, James married the former Carol Long and she survives in Cardington.

Survivors also include 3 sons and their wives, Rick and Pam Courtney of Monroe, VA, George and Rose Courtney of Bristol, TN, Michael Courtney and Leanne Goncalves of Mt. Gilead; a daughter and her husband, Linda and Ryland Hall of Lewis Center, OH; grandchildren, Courtney and Matthew Hall, Noah Courtney, Graham Courtney, Monica Goncalves and Victoria Goncalves; a brother, Jack and Joanie Courtney of Prospect, PA, and a sister, Ruthann and Gary Horne of Butler, PA.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by an infant brother, George Courtney, Jr. and a brother, Thomas Courtney.

Friends may call on Sunday, February 20, 2005 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington where funeral services will be held on Monday, February 21, 2005 at 1PM. Reverend Nicholas Worden will officiate and burial will follow in Glendale Union Cemetery.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider Gideons International in care of the funeral home.

Warren J. Wood 02/17/2005

Warren J. Wood, age 80, of Millersburg, OH died Thursday afternoon, February 17, 2005, at his residence. He was born February 4, 1925 in Gilead Township, Morrow County to the late Harry M. and Sara A. (Pumphrey) Wood.

Warren had been a farmer and resided in Mount Gilead prior to moving to Millersburg in 1962.

He is survived by two sisters, Martha B. Daniel and Sara E. Parsons both of Corpus Christi, TX; a sister in law, Marjorie Wood of Mt. Gilead and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Warren was preceded in death by a brother, William (Bill) Wood.

Richard L. Green 01/30/2005

Richard L. Green, age 77, of Cardington died Sunday morning Jan. 30, 2005 in the Riverside Methodist Hospital. He was born near Marion on Feb. 7, 1927 to the late Lester L. and Mamie A. (Cornelius) Green.

Dick was a 1945 graduate of Green Camp High School and a 1947 graduate of the American Institute of Chicago. He was a World War II Navy veteran and the owner of R & R Green Enterprises. Dick was a member of the Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Cardington and the Jenkins-Vaughn American Legion Post # 97. Richard was elected to serve 10 consecutive terms as a Cardington Township Trustee for a total of over 37 years of public service.

On Jan. 15, 1950 in Marion, Richard married the former Regina 'Jean' Haas and she survives. Other survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Debbie Green of Cardington; daughter, Kris Higgins of Columbus; son Rick Green of Cardington; grandchildren Jeremy and Cathie Higgins, Matt Higgins, and Brian Green; great-grandchildren Collin and Jack Higgins; and brother, Robert Green of Cleveland.

In addition to his parents Dick was preceded in death by one brother Donald Green.

Friends may call Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington where the funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM. Ronald Abbott will officiate the service and the burial will be in the Glendale Cemetery with military honors provided by Jenkins-Vaughn Post # 97.

Chosen to serve as pall bearers are Jeremy Higgins, Matt Higgins, Brian Green, Phil Napper, Mike Jenner, Dennis Cowles, Scott White, and Junior Newsom. Honorary pall bearers are Harold Cowles, Don Lee, Rod Clinger, Hal Clinger, Howard Taylor, Jeff Taylor, Melvin Bell, Gene Jacobs, Randy Miller, and Chris Carsner.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Morrow County in care of the funeral home.

Ruth Linstedt, 01/23/2005

Ruth Linstedt, age 97, of Gearhiser Road, Waldo, died late Sunday evening, January 23, 2005 at Heartland of Marion. She was born February 5, 1907 near Waldo to Milton and Docie (Strine) Augenstein.

Ruth was a 1925 graduate of Waldo High School, attended Normal School in Marion, graduated from Bowling Green University as a teacher and taught in rural Marion County. She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cardington.

On August 19, 1929 she married Wilbert J. Linstedt and he preceded her in death on September 29, 1994.

Ruth is survived by one daughter and her husband, Marjorie and Gene Linder of Marion; one son and his wife, Kenneth and Janice Linstedt of Waldo; 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Arthur and Ralph Augenstein and one great-great-grandchild.

Friends may call Wednesday, January 26, 2005 from 4-7PM at Gompf Funeral Service in Cardington. Funeral services will be held at 10:30AM Thursday, January 27, 2005 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church with Reverend Edward Wahl officiating. Burial will follow in Waldo Cemetery.
