Kay J. Brcka Chaney
Died: Wednesday, June 25, 2003
PORTAGE, Mich. — Kay J. Brcka Chaney was born June 24, 1947, in Kalamazoo, Mich., the daughter of Russell and Virginia (Gurney) Guetschow Sr. She spent most of her life in Plainwell and graduated from high school there in 1965. Later she earned her nursing degree in South Bend, Ind., in 1969.
Kay worked at Bronson Hospital briefly and then provided day care from her home from 1978 to 1993. She then took a job at Lakeview Medical Center in Paw Paw, where she lived for four years until moving to Portage in 2000.
From 1970 until 1993 Kay was married to Robert Brcka. In 2000 she married Donald Chaney. Along with her mother and husband, other members of Kay’s family include her children, Angela Brcka of Kalamazoo, Jennifer Bailey and her husband, Mike of Paw Paw, Joshua Brcka of Evanston, Ill., and Menaka Abel, her husband, Paul, and their son, Ian, of Ada whom Kay treated as if they were her own family; her stepdaughter, Dawn Cowels of Kalamazoo; three stepgrandchildren, Eric, Tyler and Cassie; brothers and their spouses, Russell and Joyce Guetschow Jr. of Vicksburg, Gregg and Sue Guetschow of Owosso, Jae and Debbie Guetschow of Blissfield and Kevin and Karen Guetschow of Plainwell.
Kay was preceded in death by her father, a stepson, Shawn Chaney, and Menaka’s stillborn infant daughter, Tatiana.
Kay died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at Rose Arbor Hospice.

Ruby M. Price
Died: Tuesday, June 24, 2003
Age: 78
ROCKFORD — Ruby M. Price, 78, of Rockford died at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at Mercer County Community Hospital, Coldwater.
She was born Nov. 19, 1924, in Mercer County, the daughter of the late Loren E. Harner and Dessie G. Steele. On Dec. 8, 1951, she married Charles W. Price, who preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 1999.
Mrs. Price had retired from Parkway Schools after 29 years as a cook.
Survivors include:
Daughters — Sharon (Brent) Whitaker of Willshire and Nancy Ridenour of Clarksville, Tenn.
Sisters — Esther Snyder of Celina and Jean Christian of Mendon
Five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, Rockford, the Revs. Randy Christian and Carol McKay officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.
Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to service time Friday at the funeral home.
Olive I. Lyon
Died: Monday, June 23, 2003
Age: 93
PAYNE — Olive I. Lyon, 93, a former resident of Quincy, Mich., died at 6:35 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2003, at Horn Nursing Home, Wooster.
She was born July 13, 1909, in Antwerp, the daughter of the late Sidney and Goldie (Ludwig) Taylor. She married Lyman "Bud" Lyon, who preceded her in death in 2001.
Mrs. Lyon was a homemaker.
Survivors include:

Sister — Dora Bercaw of Hicksville
Four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Wiltsie Cemetery, Payne, Deacon Donald Coughlin officiating.

Ruby M. Bechtol
Died: Monday, June 23, 2003
Age: 90
Ruby M. Bechtol, 90, of Van Wert died at 9:10 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2003, at Vancrest Health Care Center, Van Wert.
She was born Dec. 5, 1912, in Van Wert County, the daughter of the late Scott and Nellie (Crites) Imler. On Jan. 1, 1930, she married Clark Bechtol, who preceded her in death in 1971.
Mrs. Bechtol formerly worked at Hampton’s Restaurant, the Overall Factory and National Seal Corp., all in Van Wert, and retired in 1977 after 25 years of service from Aeroquip Corp. Van Wert. She attended First Baptist Church in Van Wert.
Survivors include one son, Donald E. (June) Bechtol of Van Wert; a brother, George Imler of Convoy; two grandchildren, Tim (Debby) Bechtol of Clermont, Fla., and Linda (Mark) Bechtol of Denver, Co., and a great-granddaughter, Bailey.
She was preceded in death by a brother, David Imler, and two sisters, Grace Logan and Inez Tumbleson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, the Rev. Paul Miller officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is donor’s choice.
Charles W. Miller
Died: Friday, July 04, 2003
Age: 83
GROVER HILL — Charles W. Miller, 83, died at 6:35 a.m. Friday, July 4, 2003, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind., where he had been a patient one day. He was a former Grover Hill resident presently residing in Lady Lake, Fla.
He was born Aug. 23, 1919, in Jackson Township, Van Wert County, the son of the late Charles J. and Velma (Ashbaugh) Miller. On Sept. 18, 1939, he married Barbara Ann Funk, who survives.
Mr. Miller was a truck broker for AMA Trucking and Trico Trucking, retiring in 1987. He was a former Paulding County Commissioner, serving two terms from 1979 to 1987. He belonged to Odd Fellows Lodge of Middle Point and was a life member of Elks Lodge 1197 in Van Wert. He was a former Grover Hill School Board member and a Paulding County School Board member for eight years. He was a member of the Horseman’s Association and the United States Trotters Association. He attended the Church of Christ of Lady Lake, Fla.
Other survivors include one daughter, Marlene Jo Yahn of Ohio City; three sons, Wayne (Donna) Miller of Gulfport, Miss., Kent (Gloria) Miller of Lady Lake and Kevin Miller of Haviland; two sisters, Eloise Shaw of Grover Hill and Delores Sanderson of Reading, Mich.; one brother, Arlie Miller of Winter Haven, Fla.; one half brother, Ralph Ashbaugh of Van Wert; eight grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Kathryn Dotson, two brothers, Ernest and Robert Miller, and a granddaughter, Victoria Reneé Yahn.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. (EDT) Wednesday at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, the Rev. Paul Miller officiating. Burial will be in Middle Creek Cemetery, Grover Hill.
Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. (EDT) Tuesday and 8 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Robert George West
Died: Thursday, July 03, 2003
Age: 82
BRANDON, Fla. — Robert George West, 82, of Brandon died Thursday, July 3, 2003, in Brandon.
He was born Feb. 24, 1921, in Jackson,. Mich. His wife, Jean West, survives in Brandon.
Mr. West was formerly employed as hospital administrator at Van Wert County Hospital.

Daughter — Judy Lindsey of Brandon
Two grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be private.
Robert W. Heyser
Died: Thursday, July 03, 2003
Age: 79
DELPHOS — Robert W. "Bob" Heyser, 79, of Delphos died at 10:20 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2003, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Delphos.
He was born Oct. 26, 1923, in Delphos, the son of the late Oscar and Florence (Banzhaf) Heyser. On June 18, 1960, he married Lola M. Vazquez, who preceded him in death on Nov. 28, 1992.
Mr. Heyser worked for Lima Tank Plant, Neon in Lima and New Delphos Manufacturing.
Survivors include:
Sister — Patricia (Heyser) Patton of Delphos
One niece, Pamala (Patton) Meyer of New Mexico, and great nieces, Kimberly Page, Jason Meyer, Heather Meyer and Amanda Meyer, also survive.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Orbin and Russel Heyser, and a sister, Madona Heyser.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John Cemetery, Delphos, the Rev. Thomas Gorman officiating.
