Pollie C. Ditto
Died: Tuesday, July 15, 2003
Age: 85

Pollie C. Ditto, 85, formerly of Big Clifty, Ky., and Van Wert, died at 11:20 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at Lincolnway Home, Ridge Township.

She was born April 10, 1918, in Whitesburg, Ky., the daughter of the late William Riley and Emmaline (Combs) Caudill. On May 6, 1944, she married Richard A. Ditto, who preceded her in death on July 27, 1983.

Mrs. Ditto retired from Aeroquip Corp. (Eaton) in Van Wert. She was a member of Calvary Evangelical Church where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir.

Survivors include two grandchildren, Ray Ditto and Regina Kuhn, both of Fort Wayne, one daughter-in-law, Darlene Ditto of Decatur, Ind.; two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a stepson, Clifford Ditto, three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert, the Rev. Raymond E. Feeck officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery, Ridge Township.

Calling hours are 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are Calvary Evangelical Church or Lincolnway Home Activity Fund.

Fred L. McCollum
Died: Tuesday, July 15, 2003
Age: 91

Fred L. McCollum, 91, of Van Wert died at 7:35 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at Vancrest Health Care Center, Van Wert.

He was born May 1, 1912, in Van Wert, the son of the late Charles and Elsie (Wert) McCollum. On June 27, 1933, he married Lois Miller, who survives in Van Wert. The couple recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

Mr. McCollum had retired after more than 40 years as a barber. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he had served in the 260th Infantry in Europe under General George Patton. He was a life member of both Van Wert American Legion Post 178 and Van Wert Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803.

Other survivors include a daughter, Sharon (Joe) Bizzaro of Tallahassee, Fla.; two granddaughters, Valerie and Lora Kibler of Tallahassee; one grandson, Vance Kibler of Tampa Bay, Fla., and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Carl McCollum, and a sister, Norma Linser.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Brickner Funeral Home, Van Wert. Internment will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.

Calling hours are 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is American Heart Association.

Carol O’Keefe
Died: Monday, July 14, 2003
Age: 59

LIMA — Carol "Kay" O’Keefe, 59, of Lima passed away Monday, July 14, 2003, at 7:20 a.m. at St. Rita’s Medical Center.

She was born March 1, 1944, in Lima, to Eugene J. O’Keefe and Mildred (Siebeneck) O’Keefe, who preceded her in death.

Ms. O’Keefe was a 1962 graduate of Lima Central Catholic. She was currently working as a medical secretary at S.C.C.I. Hospital. She retired from United Telephone/Sprint after 37 years.

She is survived by two sisters, Ruth (Ronald Ray) Carroll of Elida and Patricia (Ronald) Wheeler of Defiance; three brothers, Daniel (Susan) O’Keefe of Defiance, John (Marcia) O’Keefe of Lima and Robert (Sherry) O’Keefe of Elida; one sister-in-law, Anna O’Keefe of Oviedo, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; several great nieces and great nephews, and a host of close friends.

She is preceded in death by a brother, William O’Keefe, and a niece, Kerri O’Keefe.

Carol fought a brave battle against cancer for the past two years. She was a very caring person and had a great love for her family and friends. She also had a strong devotion to her nieces and nephews. She enjoyed bingo and collecting bears, snowmen and cookbooks.

Funeral services begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Siferd Westwood Chapel, Lima, the Rev. Vincent Hoying officiating. Burial to follow at Gethsemani Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Rita’s Medical Center, Oncology Dept., 6B, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Ralph E. Felger
Died: Monday, July 14, 2003
Age: 68

Ralph E. Felger, 68, of Van Wert died at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 14, 2003, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 28, 1934, in Van Wert, the son of the late Emmett Lee and Faye (Adams) Felger. On June 25, 1965, he married Gloria I. Schoonover, who survives in Van Wert.

Mr. Felger retired from Kennedy Mfg. after 30 years of employment. A U.S. Army veteran, he was an avid bowler and a member of the Van Wert Bowlling Hall of Fame.

Other survivors include three daughters, Anita (Ronald) Richards of Venedocia, Jennifer (Jay) Yoh and Amy (Mike) Garrett, both of Van Wert; two sons, James Felger of Middle Point and Eric Felger of Anna; two granddaughters, Stacie Rhodes and Shellie Rhodes of Venedocia; one grandson, Justin Yoh of Van Wert; one sister, Helen Drocy of Swanton, and three brothers, Junior Felger, Roger Felger and Danny Felger, all of Van Wert.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Brent and Brian Felger, a sister, Mary Amweg, and four brothers, Kenneth, Carroll, Milo and Richard Felger.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Brickner Funeral Home, the Rev. Neil Hammons officiating.

Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is charity of the donor’s choice.

Jerry B. Grubaugh
Died: Sunday, July 13, 2003
Age: 61

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic — Jerry B. Grubaugh, 61, of Santo Domingo, died Sunday, July 13, 2003, in Santo Domingo.

He was born Sept. 3, 1941, in Van Wert County, the son of Ray Grubaugh of Van Wert and the late Grace M. (Mohr) Grubaugh.

Mr. Grubaugh practiced law in Chicago, Ill., until 1986 when he moved to the Dominican Republic where he owned and operated a small hotel in the colonial part of Santo Domingo. He later joined the law firm of Oficina Marranzini. He also wrote articles for the Santo Domingo News. He had represented the United States at the World Bank Conference when it was held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

A 1959 graduate of Convoy-Union High School, he graduated summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa from Ohio State University in 1963 and cum laude from the Harvard Law School in 1966.

Other survivors include a brother, Ric (Susie) Grubaugh of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Clark T. and Effie (LeVeck) Grubaugh and Walter and Desi (DeLong) Mohr.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, the Rev. MaryAnn Tomlinson officiating. Burial will be in Scott Cemetery, Scott.

Calling hours are 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family requests no flowers or donations, only your prayers and thoughts.

Lillian Agatha Stanley
Died: Sunday, July 13, 2003
Age: 89

DECATUR, Ind. — Lillian Agatha Stanley, 89, of Decatur, formerly of Napa, Calif., died at 10:15 p.m. (Indiana time) Sunday, July 13, 2003, at Woodcrest Nursing Center, Decatur.

She was born July 2, 1914, in Kirksville, Mo., the daughter of the late Jessie and Cora Ethel (Dabney) Collins. On Feb. 18, 1933, she married Clyde W. Stanley, who preceded her in death on Aug. 2, 1991.

Mrs. Stanley was a homemaker.

Survivors include:

Son — Jerry (Loretta) Stanley of Rockford

Sisters — Daisy Greene of Palm Springs, Calif., and Dorothy Elton of Napa

Two grandsons, Timothy and Anthony, and a great-grandson, Shaun, also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at Richard Pierce Funeral Home, Napa.
