Died: Tuesday, June 17, 2003
Age: 87

PAYNE — Dorothy G. Woods, 87, died at 4:20 a.m. (EDT) Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at Dallas Lamb Foundation Home, Payne, where she had been a patient for three months.

She was born Oct. 29, 1915, in Paulding, the daughter of the late Edward and Grace (Nesbitt) Lyons. In 1936, she married Daniel H. Woods, who preceded her in death in 1991.

Mrs.  Woods was a homemaker.

Survivors include:

Sons — Paul (Gwendolyn)  Woods of Woodburn, Ind., Glenn (Rhonda)  Woods of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Richard (Rita)  Woods of Huntington Beach, Calif.

Daughter — Marilyn (Joseph) Lawlor of Rudyard, Mich.

Brothers — Harold Lyons and James (Judy) Lyons, both of Fort Wayne

Sister — Marie Seslar of Fort Wayne

Seventeen grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by a son, Lloyd Woods; two brothers, Donald and William Lyons; two sisters, Ganel Cisco and an infant sister, and a great-grandson, Nicholas Woods.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. (EDT) Saturday at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, the Rev. Elwin Hall officiating. Burial will be in Lehman Cemetery, Payne.

Calling hours are 4-9 p.m. (EDT) Friday and 8 a.m. to time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

Mary Eva Schmitz
Died: Tuesday, June 17, 2003
Age: 96

PAULDING — Mary Eva Schmitz, 96, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, in Sebring, Ohio.

She was born the daughter of the late John and Carrie (Heilman) Buchman of Paulding. She was the dear wife of the late Lawton Frederick Henry (Pat) Schmitz.

Surviving her is son, James (Lela) Schmitz of North Benton, and daughters, Beatrice (John) Butler-Hancock of Altoona, Wis., and Patricia Wise of Lakeland, Fla. She was the proud grandmother of 16, great-grandmother of 37 and great-great-grandmother of 30.

She was preceded in death by her son, John D. Schmitz of Findlay, her daughter, Mary Lou Reilly of Toledo and infant son, Paul. Also preceding her in death were her brothers, John Buchman and Harley Buchman, her sister, Ada Kwascigroh, and her grandson, Eugene Wise.

Mrs. Schmitz was a devoted railroad wife and lived in many cities along the way, including Westfield, N.Y., Conneaut, Lima and Bellevue, Ohio. Mary and Pat enjoyed retirement in New Port Richey, Fla.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. (EDT) Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 314 N. Main St., Paulding. Interment will be at Live Oak Cemetery, Paulding.

Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. (EDT) Friday at Den Herder Funeral Home, 1000 W. Wayne St., Paulding, with a rosary service at 7 p.m. (EDT). Calling will also be at the church an hour prior to services.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Organ Fund, Immaculate Conception Church, 434 Western Avenue, Toledo, Ohio 43609 or to the Minerva Lion’s Club, P.O. Box 232, Minerva, Ohio 44657.

Lowell L. Sidle Sr.
Died: Tuesday, June 17, 2003
Age: 81

Lowell L. Sidle Sr., 81, of Van Wert died at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at Van Wert County Hospital.

He was born Dec. 10, 1921, in Van Wert, the son of the late Lee and Grace (Mongold) Sidle. On May 18, 1947, he married Annabel Hart, who preceded him in death on Aug. 11, 2002.

Mr. Sidle retired in 1983 after 22 years of service from Weatherhead-Dana Corp. in Antwerp. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II who served in the European Theater, he was a charter life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 5803 in Van Wert, a member of American Legion Post 178 in Van Wert, and attended Wesley United Methodist Church in Van Wert.

Survivors include two sons, Lowell (Patty) Sidle Jr. and Michael (Carol) Sidle, both of Van Wert; four daughters, Linda Ball of Cincinnati, Judy (Jim) Reinhart of Van Wert, Barbara Hunter of Austin, Texas, and Rosemary Teghtmeyer of Wapakoneta; two brothers, Wayne (Carol) Sidle and O.C. Sidle, both of Van Wert; one sister, Nelleta Reidenbach of Fort Wayne, Ind.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Carl Reidenbach, and a sister-in-law, Pauline Sidle.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, the Rev. Doug Stockton officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert, with military graveside services conducted by combined units of the Van Wert VFW and American Legion.

Calling hours are 3-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is the church.

Martin L. Leininger Sr.
Died: Monday, June 16, 2003
Age: 86

MONROEVILLE, Ind. — Martin L. Leininger Sr., 86, of rural Monroeville, died at 4 p.m. (Indiana time) Monday, June 16, 2003, at Parkview Hospital.

He was born July 20, 1916, in Wauseon, the son of the late Walter and Hazel Abbs Leininger. On Oct. 20, 1937, in Decatur, Ind., he married Glennis E. Carpenter, who survives.

Mr. Leininger retired in 1974 after 32 years of service for International Harvester on the assembly line. A U.S. Navy veteran, he was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Monroeville and American Legion Post 420 in Monroeville. He was a 1935 graduate of Hoagland High School.

Other survivors include two daughters, Wanda Lou Lillch of St. Cloud, Fla., and Martha L. Rogers of Van Wert; two sons, Martin Leininger Jr. and Walter L. Leininger, both of Monroeville; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Martin Leininger, a daughter, Margaret L. Leininger, and four brothers, Thomas Rose Leininger, Park Leininger, Virgil Leininger and Otto Leininger.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. (Indiana time) Thursday at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Monroeville, the Rev. Ed Redman, interim minister, officiating. Burial will be in Monroeville Memorial Cemetery with military graveside services conducted by Monroeville American Legion and VFW.

Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. (Indiana time) today at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville, and an hour prior to services Thursday at the church.

Preferred memorials are Monroeville EMS.

Darren L. Welker
Died: Saturday, June 14, 2003
Age: 40

Darren L. Welker, 40, of Van Wert died Saturday morning, June 14, 2003.

He was born Feb. 6, 1963, in Van Wert, the son of Shirley (Joe) Welker Kemper of Maria Stein and the late Stanley D. Welker.

Mr. Welker was employed at Fort Wayne Roofing, Fort Wayne, Ind. He was a member of the Rockford Eagles lodge.

Survivors include his fiancé, Kelly Thomas of Van Wert; a son, Zachary Welker of Van Wert; one daughter, Stevie Joy Welker of Van Wert; his grandfather, Orval "Doc" Humerickhouse of Mendon; his stepfather Joe Kemper of Maria Stein; his stepmother, Susan Welker of Van Wert; one brother, Dallas (Kris) Welker of Van Wert, and four sisters, Dawn (Mark) Stutz and Katie Welker, both of Van Wert, Darla (Terry) Seibert and D’Anna (John) Siano, both of Mendon.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Dana Welker.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert, the Rev. Carey Knittle officiating.

Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is the family, c/o of Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home.

Jonathan Adam Levi Hobbs
Died: Friday, June 13, 2003

PAULDING — Jonathan Adam Levi Hobbs, was stillborn, Friday, June 13, 2003, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind.

He was the son of Bobbi Jean Doster and Joshua Adam Hobbs of Paulding, who survive.

Other survivors include:

Half sister — Kaylee Hobbs of Van Wert

Maternal grandmother — Lisa Doster of Paulding

Step maternal grandfather — Terry Morrow of Paulding

Paternal grandparents — Vernon and Elizabeth Hobbs of Venedocia

He was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents, Kenneth and Roberta Shellenbarger.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. (EDT) Monday at Harvest Field Pentecostal Church of God, Scott, the Rev. Terry Martin officiating. Burial will be in Junction Cemetery.

Calling hours are noon to time of service Monday at the church.

Arrangements were handled by Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding.
