Thomas Roy Tippie
Died: Saturday, September 13, 2003
Age: 56

DELPHOS — Thomas Roy Tippie, 56, of Delphos died at 6:18 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay.

He was born Oct. 3, 1946, in Lima, the son of Catherine (Krebs) Tippie of Delphos and the late Roy Woodrow Wilson Tippie.

On Aug. 27, 1984, he married Cecelia A. Bowers, who survives in Delphos.

Mr. Tippie retired from General Motors as a core maker.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War who served as a tank mechanic in Germany.

Other survivors include:

Sons — Travis M. (Tari) Tippie of Fort Jennings, Toby J. (Lisa) Tippie of Lima, Christopher P. Showalter of Columbus and Andrew G. Tippie of Delphos

Daughter — Cayonna P. Torman of Fort Jennings

Sister — Constance Steman of Delphos

Brother — Michael Tippie of Delphos

Seven grandchildren, Kendra Faye Stocklin, Rileigh Catherine Tippie, Olivia Ellen Marie Tippie, Emma Margaret Tippie, Steve Ray Torman, Natalie Patricia Torman and Natasha Ann Torman, also survive.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Domin and Linda Johnston.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos, the Rev. Thomas Gorman officiating.

Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Delphos, with full military grave rites conducted by the Delphos Veteran’s Council.

Calling hours are 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Harter & Son Funeral Home, Delphos, where a parish wake will be held at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Jack M. Briggs
Died: Friday, September 12, 2003
Age: 72

LIMA — Jack M. Briggs, 72, of Bath Township died Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, at his residence.

He was born Nov. 25, 1930, in Spencerville, the son of Gertrude L. Harter Briggs, who survives in Lima, and the late Albert M. Briggs. On June 18, 1960, he married Mary Ann Billingsley, who preceded him in death on June 4, 2000.

Mr. Briggs retired in 1981 from Lima City Schools as a 1st class stationary engineer with 30 years of service. While there, he taught steam engineering in the vocational department, teaching 3178 students over the years. He also worked 12 years at Lima Memorial Hospital as its steam engineer. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict who served in Germany.

Other survivors include:

Son — John R. (Jill) Briggs of Lima

Daughters — Donna Jean (Ed) Davenport of Lima and Carol Ann (Steve) Foute of Denver, Colo.

Brothers — Joe C. (Ann) Briggs, Jay R. Briggs, Michael A. (Betty) Briggs and Dennis A. (Connie) Briggs, all of Lima

Five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Carl H. Briggs.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, the Rev. Mark Bowyer officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, east of Spencerville, where graveside military rites will be conducted.

Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Carl Webster Mosier
Died: Friday, September 12, 2003
Age: 74

BRYAN — Carl Webster Mosier, 74, of Bryan died at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, at his residence.

He was born March 30, 1929, in Van Wert County, the son of the late Rowland and Omah Shivley Mosier. On Nov. 26, 1947, he married Dorothy Crowe, who survives in Bryan.

Mr. Mosier retired as a laborer from the 50 Corp/Hayes Albion factory after 25 years of service. He was owner/operator of Mo’s Family Restaurant & Bar for 25 years in Ney. A member of Bryan Eagles Aerie 2233, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1945-47.

Other survivors include five sons, Jay Mosier, Michael (Connie) Mosier and Jeffery Mosier, all of Bryan, and Bruce (Sue) Mosier and Timothy Mosier, both of Ney; two sisters, Donna (Melvin) Davis of Bryan and Carolyn (Royce) High of Ohio City; a stepsister, Nancy (David) Hersh of Atlanta, Ga.; a niece, Cinthia (Haskell) Simpkins of Michigan raised by Mr. and Mrs. Mosier; 11 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a stepfather, Gerald Davis.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home, Defiance, the Rev. Douglas Nolt officiating. Burial will be in Ney Cemetery, Ney.

Calling hours are 2-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are Williams County Hospice and Visiting Nurses or Ney Church of God.

Colleen Ann Conley
Died: Friday, September 12, 2003
Age: 70

ANTWERP — Colleen Ann Conley, 70, died at 7:35 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, at Roselawn Manor, Spencerville.

She was born Nov. 23, 1932, in Delphos, the daughter of the late Joseph and Estella (Best) Wieging. On Feb. 27, 1954, she married Albert Conley, who preceded her in death on Nov. 27, 2000.

Mrs. Conley was a homemaker.

Survivors include:

Sons — Donald (Denise) Conley of Delphos and Daniel Conley (Todd Jackson) of Royal Oak, Mich.

Daughters — Cheryl (David) Suever of Spencerville and Shelley (John) Doudna of Antwerp

Brothers — Merlin (Mary Lou) Wieging of Upper Sandusky, Darrell (Judy) Wieging of Ohio City and Donald (Barb) Wieging of Huntington, Ind.

Seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Wieging, a brother, Harold Wieging, and a daughter, Shiela Jo Anne Conley.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Harter & Son Memorial Chapel, Delphos, the Rev. Thomas Gorman officiating.

Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home where a parish wake service will be held at 7:45 p.m.

Winifred E. Perl
Died: Thursday, September 11, 2003
Age: 89

CONVOY — Winifred E. Perl, 89, of Convoy died at 11:16 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at Van Wert County Hospital, Van Wert.

She was born July 6, 1914, in Toronto, Canada, the daughter of the late Bill and Ada (Ingram) Alexander.

Mrs. Perl worked in the food service office at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind., for a number of years and retired from Irene Byron Nursing Home in Fort Wayne.

Survivors include three sons, Gene (Geneva) Perl and Glen (Gail) Perl, both of Fort Wayne, and Gary (Ory) Perl of Convoy, and several grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, William Alexander.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Brickner Funeral Home, Van Wert, the Rev. Neil Hammons officiating. Burial will be in Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne.

Calling hours are 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are Convoy EMS and Van Wert EMS.
