William Charles Derr Jr.
Died: Monday, September 29, 2003
Age: 33

William Charles "Bill" Derr Jr., 33, of Van Wert died unexpectedly at 8:48 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at the residence of his sister, 315 N. Race St.

He was born April 25, 1970, in Hicksville, the son of Donna Connon of Van Wert and the late William C. Derr Sr. On July 7, 1999, he married Connie Walters, who survives in Van Wert.

Mr. Derr had been a truck driver for E. Conrad and Sons Trucking, Van Wert.

Other survivors include his maternal grandmother, Bertha Debacher of Van Wert; a stepson, Justin Lee of Van Wert; three sisters, Tina (Mark) Coil of Convoy and Dawn (Joe) Mihm and Bonnie (Matt) Hakes, both of Van Wert; four half brothers, Gary (Linda) Richhart and Gregg (Shaun) Richhart, both of Woodburn, Ind., Rick (Cindy) Richhart of New Haven, Ind., and Roger Richhart of Woodburn; a half sister, Gail (Ed) Claymiller of Fort Wayne, Ind., and 11 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two uncles, Virgil and Richard Debacher, one niece and a nephew.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert, the Rev. Scott Fleming officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.

Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is for the family.

Vetha C. Sennebogen
Died: Monday, September 29, 2003
Age: 82

Vetha C. Sennebogen, 82, of Van Wert died at 9:48 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at her residence.

She was born Dec. 3, 1920, in Van Wert County, the daughter of the late Clide E. Ford Sr. and Ruah Jane (Gamble) Ford. On June 14, 1940, she married Henry C. Sennebogen, who preceded her in death in 1978.

Mrs. Sennebogen retired as head bookkeeper from the Landmark Farm Bureau. She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert, enjoyed bowling for many years, was past president and currently vice president of the Psi Iota Xi Sorority, was a member of Catholic Ladies of Columbia, had been active in various church programs and made and donated "scratchers" to local charitable organizations.

Survivors include three sons, Henry K. "Hank" Sennebogen of Houston, Texas, Steve Sennebogen of Van Wert and Rick Sennebogen of Akron; two daughters, Barb (Leland) Brown and Ruah J. Hanicq, both of Van Wert; one daughter-in-law, Julie Schumacher of Fort Wayne, Ind., a brother, Clide Ford Jr. of Van Wert; one sister, Gloris Ford of Van Wert; 15 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Sennebogen, four brothers, Jim, Gilford, Clayton and Henry Ford, and a sister, Viola Ford, who died in infancy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Van Wert, the Rev. Charles Obinwa officiating, assisted by the Rev. Paul Miller. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.

Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert. A Psi Iota Xi Sorority memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a prayer service at 7:45 p.m. Both services will be at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are the American Cancer Society or Community Health Professionals Hospice.

Elvin Arnold Height
Died: Sunday, September 28, 2003
Age: 83

Elvin Arnold Height, 83, of Van Wert died at 9:50 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, at Vancrest Health Care Center, Van Wert.

He was born June 24, 1920, in Hoaglin Township, Van Wert County, the son of the late George and Stella Mae (Emmans) Height. His wife of 53 years, Erma Ruth (Voyles) Height, survives in Van Wert.

Mr. Height was a retired employee of the former Continental Can Co. of Van Wert. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II who served in the South Pacific, he was also a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803 in Van Wert.

Other survivors include four daughters, Penny R. Thompson of Van Wert, Carolyn Kay Firestine of Fort Wayne, Ind., Brenda J. Riley of Van Wert and Nancy S. Raser of Parma, Mich.; one son, Patrick W. Height of Scottsdale, Ky.; a brother, Leroy "Ted" Height of Van Wert, and numerous grand- and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Courtney James Cosgrove and Elvin Arnold Height II, one grandson, Andrew John Raser, and 13 brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Brickner Funeral Home, Van Wert, where military rites will be conducted by the combined honors unit of American Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803. The Rev. Paul W. Miller will officiate.

Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Charlene Bate Unsinger
Died: Monday, June 02, 2003

Charlene Bate Unsinger, formerly of Van Wert, died June 2, 2003 in California. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charley and Norma Bate of Van Wert. She is survived by her husband Peter, sons Sean, Harold and Andrew, daughter Heather Davis, 6 grandchildren, sisters Marsha Bate Dealey and Laurinda Bate Milheim and Brother Walter Bate.

Mrs. Unsinger graduated from Van Wert High School in 1956, Parkside School of Nursing in 1959 and Heidelberg College in 1961. She was a nurse for 40 years. A memorial service will be held Oct. 25, 11a.m. at Sandcreek Baptist Church, south of Greensburg, IN on Rte 421.

Jeanetta Sulfridge
Died: Sunday, October 19, 2003
Age: 69

PAULDING — Jeanetta Sulfridge, 69, died at 1:35 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind.

She was born Jan. 18, 1934, in Norton County, Va., the daughter of the late Edwin and Vonda (Gibson) Gardner. On Aug. 14, 1948, she married Lester E. Sulfridge Sr., who preceded her in death on Jan. 27, 1988.

Mrs. Sulfridge was previously employed by Pawnee Plastics, Paulding, retiring in 1990, after 11 years.

Survivors include:

Sons — Gary (Brenda) Sulfridge of Latty, Tom (Connie) Sulfridge, Larry (Carla) Sulfridge and Lester Sulfridge Jr., all of Paulding, John (Connie) Sulfridge of Continental and Randall Sulfridge of Boughton

Daughters — Christina (John) DeMuth of Oakwood and Lisa (Dennis) Miller of Cecil

Three brothers, three sisters, 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by a son, Danny Kyle Sulfridge.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. (EDT) Thursday at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, the Rev. Don Leonard officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Paulding.

Calling hours are 4-8 p.m. (EDT) today at the funeral home.

Joan Showalter
Died: Sunday, October 19, 2003
Age: 76

Joan (Ladd) Showalter, 76, formerly of Van Wert died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, in Roswell, Ga.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 6 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert.

Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5 at the funeral home.

Further arrangements are pending at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home.

Helen C. Etzler
Died: Sunday, October 19, 2003
Age: 86

Helen C. Etzler, 86, of Van Wert died at 11:10 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, at Convoy Care Center, Convoy.

She was born Sept. 2, 1917, in Kiefer, Okla., the daughter of the late William and Freeda (Campbell) Clark. On March 9, 1963, she married Erwin "Jim" Etzler, who preceded her in death on Oct. 14, 1984.

Mrs. Etzler worked for Lincoln Life in Fort Wayne, Ind., retiring in 1963. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Convoy.

Survivors include a niece, Diana (Bill) Bodecker of Fort Wayne, two great nieces and one great nephew.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Beulah Rankin.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Convoy, the Rev. Michael W. Saylor officiating. Burial will be in Redeemer Lutheran Cemetery, Convoy.

Calling hours are 3-7 p.m. Wednesday at Gearhart, Mack & Jurczyk Funeral Home, Convoy, and half an hour prior to service Thursday at the church.

Preferred memorial is the church.
