M. Jane Van Eman
Died: Sunday, October 19, 2003
Age: 84

M. Jane Van Eman, 84, of Van Wert died at 3:30 p.m. (EDT) Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, at Vancrest Health Care Center, Van Wert, following an extended illness.

She was born Sept. 16, 1919, in Jennings Township, Van Wert County, to the late Dewitt S. and Hannah J. (Owens) Bassett. On April 20, 1943, she married David I. Van Eman, who preceded her in death on Aug. 16, 1991.

Mrs. Van Eman was a loving wife and mother. She was a member of Salem United Presbyterian Church, Venedocia, and the Alpha Kappa Class of the church.

Survivors include three sons, Dennis (Kathy) Van Eman of Convoy, Steven (Mary Lou) Van Eman of New Richmond and David (Sue) Van Eman of Elida; one brother, Thomas Bassett of Venedocia; a sister, Dorothy (Paul) Cummings of Lima; seven grandchildren, Amy (Sean) Neidemire, Stephanie (Jared) Stewart, Betsy, Scott, Brian, Julie and Lori Van Eman, and two great-grandchildren, Dalton and Hannah Reichert.

She was preceded in death by twin daughters and a brother, Richard Bassett.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, the Rev. Wendy Pratt officiating. Burial will be in Venedocia Cemetery, Venedocia.

Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is Salem United Presbyterian Church Renovation Fund.

Arthur L. Bollenbacher
Died: Sunday, October 19, 2003
Age: 85

CELINA — Arthur L. Bollenbacher, 85, of Celina died at 1:20 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, at his residence in Celina.

He was born Feb. 2, 1918, in Mercer County, the son of the late Fredick V. and Elizabeth Bollenbacher Bollenbacher. On Dec. 8, 1946, he married Lois Zizelman, who survives.

Mr. Bollenbacher, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, retired as a salesman from Sam Dixon Motor Sales after 35 years of service.

Other survivors include:

Daughter — Myra Romime of Portland, Ind.

Two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Robert Romime, who died earlier this year, two sisters, Matilda Gertz and Viola Kuhn, and two brothers, Morris and Homer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Pauls United Church of Christ, Rockford, the Rev. John Fleming officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina, and an hour prior to service time Wednesday at the church.

Edward L. Grunden
Died: Saturday, October 18, 2003
Age: 66

Edward L. Grunden, 66, of Van Wert died at 4:50 a.m. (EDT) Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at Vancrest Health Care Center, Van Wert.

He was born April 24, 1937, in Columbus Grove, the son of the late Cy and Isabel (Hoover) Grunden. On Dec. 2, 1956, he married Barbara Schmidt, who preceded him in death on Oct. 19, 1983. On Feb. 15, 1986, he married Shirley Gaerke, who survives in Van Wert.

Mr. Grunden worked for 18 years at Dana Weatherhead Corp., Antwerp. He had worked for several Van Wert area heating, ventilation and air conditioning companies and was self-employed for over 40 years in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning field.

A member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Van Wert, he attended St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Van Wert. He was a member of the Van Wert Moose Lodge, member and volunteer at the Van Wert YMCA, attended and was a supporter of the Marsh Foundation, Van Wert, and was an avid football fan.

Other survivors include two sons, Steven (Tammy) Grunden of Brooklyn, Ohio, and Gregory Grunden of Van Wert; a daughter, Lynne (Tony) Freeland of Van Wert; two stepdaughters, Kathy O’Sullivan of Van Wert and Kelly (Chris) Stemple of Mesa, Ariz.; a stepson, Tim O’Sullivan of Iowa City, Iowa; two brothers, James (Doris) Grunden of Summerfield, Fla., and Donald (Carol) Grunden of Freehold, N.J.; one half sister, Sue Grunden of Lima, and two grandchildren, Alexa and Katlyn.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert, Deacon Andy McMahon officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.

Calling hours were 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and an hour prior to services today at the funeral home. A prayer service was held at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are YMCA or American Cancer Society.

Jerry L. Wilhelm
Died: Saturday, October 18, 2003
Age: 61

MARYSVILLE — Jerry L. Wilhelm, 61, of Marysville, formerly of Van Wert, died unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at Ohio State University Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 16, 1941, in Spencerville, the son of the late Robert and Mildred Moorman Wilhelm. On Sept. 3, 1960, in South Shore, Ky., he married Betty Hayden, who survives.

Mr. Wilhelm retired in 2002 after working 30 years in medical technology. He began his career as head of the lab department at Pike County Hospital in Waverly from 1963 to 1968. He then worked in the sales force for Roche Biomedical Laboratories where he was district and regional manager for lab services in the Columbus area and also worked as lab manager for LabCorp in Wichita, Kan. He was a realtor for MacIvor/Graham Agency and Michel Realty.

Other survivors include:

Daughters — Diana (Mike) Walsh and Gerri Lynn (Mike) Fraizer, both of Wichita

Brother — Dennis (Joan) Wilhelm of Delphos

Sister — Karen Begley of Florida

Brother-in-law — Carl Len (Terry) Hayden of South Webster

Sister-in-law — Ruth Ann (James) Carroll of Maryland

Uncle — Malin (Mary) Wilhelm of Virginia

Seven grandchildren, Bylan, Mackenzie and Carlyn Walsh, Kalen Allen, Dalton, Seth and Josh Fraizer, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives also survive.

He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Ruth Edwards, who died Oct. 12.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Underwood Funeral Home, Marysville, the Rev. John M. Groat officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery.

Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home where Masonic memorial services will be held at 7:30 p.m. today.

Alva A. Good Jr.
Died: Saturday, October 18, 2003
Age: 71

PAULDING — Alva A. Good Jr., 71, died at 6:16 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at Paulding County Hospital, Paulding.

He was born April 9, 1932, in Paulding County, the son of the late Alva J. Good Sr. and Fayetta (Wilson) Good. On Aug. 14, 1954, he married Darlene D. Cotterman, who survives in Paulding.

Mr. Good was employed by Grizzly Manufacturing, Paulding. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was awarded the Purple Heart.

Survivors include:

Son — Rocky (Sherri) Good of Broughton

Daughters — Vicky (David) Wells of Paulding and Jacky (Charles Jr.) Youtsey of Haviland

Brother — Ernest (Virginia) Good of Angola, Ind.

Sisters — Betty (Paul) Holtsberry of Paulding and Jeanetta (Carl) Husted of Sherwood

Six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter "Jake" Good and Charles Good.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. (EDT) Wednesday at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, the Rev. Jack Berry officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Paulding, with military graveside services by Paulding Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 587.

Calling hours are 2-7 p.m. (EDT) today at the funeral home.

Elizabeth Gribler
Died: Tuesday, July 22, 2003
Age: 88

Elizabeth "Betty" Gribler, 88, of Van Wert died at 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at VanCrest Health Care Center.

She was born Jan. 30, 1915 in Putnam County, the daughter of the late Jason Stephen and Lucy Ann (Post) Agner. On Oct. 6, 1940, she married Graydon Gribler, who preceded her in death on Jan. 10, 1989.

She is survived by two daughters, Ann (Harold) Zinsmeister of Spencerville and Cheryl (Carlos) Baker of Van Wert; a son, Alan (Lisa) Gribler of Ashville; seven grandchildren, Gregory Zinsmeister of Lima, Marc Baker of Convoy, Amy Edgington of Lima, Steve Baker of Van Wert, Angela Bigham of Ohio City, Matthew Gribler of Ashville, Troy Gribler of Ashville; one brother, James Agner of Monroe and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Gribler was a homemaker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women of the Church, of which she had served many years as secretary. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Joy Bunch, the Pal-O-Mine Club and the Hoaglin  Jackson Sunrise Club.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 25, at Brickner Funeral Home, the Rev. Paul W. Miller officiating. Friends may call from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Brickner Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.

Memorial contributions can be made to First United Methodist Church.
