MENDON - James A. Thomas, 30, of Mendon died Monday, April 21, 2003, at St. Rita's SCCI, Lima.

He was born July 31, 1972, in Lima, the son of Craig and Patty (Berry) Thomas, who survive.

Mr. Thomas worked for Schawn's Ice Cream.

Other survivors include:

Brother -- John A. Thomas of Mendon

He was preceded in death by an infant brother and an infant sister.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, Rockford. Burial will be in Mercer Memory Gardens, Celina.

Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Dortha Belle Unland
Died: Monday, April 21, 2003
Age: 82

DELPHOS - Dortha Belle Unland, 82, died at 6:05 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2003, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.

She was born June 11, 1920, in Allen County, the daughter of the late Ross and Jessie (John) Strayer. On Oct. 27, 1960, she married Orville L. Unland, who preceded her in death on June 26, 1998.

Mrs. Unland was a homemaker.

Survivors include:

Brother -- Lyle Strayer of Delphos

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Avonelle Wilson, Madella and Louise Strayer, and six brothers, LaVern, Griffith, Harold, Russell, Robert and Arnold Strayer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Harter & Son Memorial Chapel, Delphos, the Rev. Ronald Lumm officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Sharon K. Huebner
Died: Sunday, April 20, 2003
Age: 55

LAURENS, S.C. - Sharon K. Huebner, 55, of Laurens died at 4:20 a.m. Sunday, April 20, 2003, at Geauga Community Hospital, Chardon.

She was born Feb. 21, 1948, in Columbus, the daughter of Donald M. Huebner, who survives in Laurens and the late Florence J. (Roth) Huebner.

Miss Huebner worked as a chemical engineer in Toledo.

Other survivors include:

Brothers -- Max A. (Victoria) Huebner of Concord and Eddy E. (Rita) Huebner of North Royalton

Nieces -- Jodi L. (Carlos) Marquez and Sandra K. Huebner, both of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Nephews -- Christopher S. (Dawn) Crowell of Springville, N.Y., Eric D. Crowell of Mentor and Shane Huebner, Nick Huebner and Jonathan Huebner, all of North Royalton

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, the Rev. Jerry Rayl officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.

Calling hours are 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Phillip D. Dudgeon
Died: Sunday, April 20, 2003
Age: 1

DELPHOS - Phillip D. Dudgeon, 18 months old, of Delphos died Sunday morning, April 20, 2003, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 25, 2001, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind., the son of Brian and Jennifer (Mullen) Dudgeon, who survive in Delphos.

Survivors include:

Brother - Corey Dudgeon at home

Maternal grandparents - Dan and Diana Mullen of Delphos

Paternal grandmother - Linda Hartsock of Delphos

Paternal great-grandparents - Ruth and Don Hartsock of Delphos

Maternal great-grandmothers - Wanda VanMeter of Delphos and Mary Mullen of Delphos

Uncles - Aaron (Kim) Mullen, Brad (Kelly) Dudgeon, Kevin (Kathy) Dudgeon and Travis Dudgeon, all of Delphos

Seven cousins also survive.

He was preceded in death by a grandfather, Phillip Dudgeon, and two great-grandfathers, Dale VanMeter and James Mullen.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Harter and Son Memorial Chapel, Delphos, the Rev. Dave Howell officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Wednesday and 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Ned Alspaugh
Died: Saturday, April 19, 2003
Age: 82

WILLSHIRE - Ned Alspaugh, 82, of Willshire died Saturday, April 19, 2003, in the Van Wert County Hospital emergency room.

He was born April 23, 1920, in Edon, the son of the late Finley J. Alspaugh and Mae Hileman Alspaugh. On Feb. 28, 1948, in Springfield, he married Eloise Esther Vanderburg, who preceded him in death on Feb. 22, 2003.

Ned graduated from Edon High School, Edon, and then from Ohio State University in 1948 with a bachelor of science degree in economics. He was employed as a salesman for Remington Rand for 23 years, retiring in 1968. He then worked for Lefeld Implement Co. selling farm machinery for 16 years.

Ned was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Schumm, where he was a former chairman of the congregation. He was a master mason of the Capital City Masonic Lodge in Columbus, a member of the Aladdin Temple in Columbus where he was a former member of the Shriners Band. He was a member of the Elks Lodge 2170 in Celina and the Willshire Lions Club. He also was a member of the Van Wert American Legion, a member of the Van Wert Farm Bureau, the Van Wert County Republican Central Committee and the Ohio State Alumni Association. He was an associate member of the Ohio Township Association. He was a longtime cattleman and belonged to the National Cattleman's Association. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.

Surviving are one sister, Helen Fetters of Berne, Ind., and three nieces, Jane Rothwall of Silverdale, Wash., Judy Weigand of Walnut, Calif., and Susan Mercer of Diamond Bar, Calif.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. ( Ohio time) Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, Schumm, the Rev. Robert Becker officiating. Interment will be Friday in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Schumm.

Friends will be received from 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday (Indiana time) at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Ind., and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.

Richard S. Perry
Died: Saturday, April 19, 2003
Age: 86

MARION - Richard S. Perry, 86, died at 12:11 p.m. Saturday, April 19, 2003, in the home of his son and daughter-in-law in Marion.

He was born July 28, 1916, in Van Wert, the son of the late Oliver H. and Josephine Swineford Perry. On May 30, 1936, in Auburn, Ind., he married Marvel L. Fackler, who preceded him in death on Nov. 17, 1997, in Columbus.

Mr. Perry retired in 1978 after 35 years as an engineer for the Erie and Erie-Lackawanna Railroad.

As a young man, he was an employee of the Van Wert Times-Bulletin.

Survivors include:

Son -- Michael R. (Linda) Perry of Marion

Daughter -- Carol Jo (John) Brenneman of Clearwater, Fla.

Sister -- Lois Youngblood of Clearwater

One grandson, Jeoff Brenneman, and an adopted granddaughter, Brenda (John) Doyle, also survive.

He was preceded in death by a grandchild, Teri Jo Brenneman-Laytart, two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Marion. Burial will be in Marion Cemetery.

Calling hours are 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Boyd Funeral Home, Marion.

Donald L. Goings
Died: Saturday, April 19, 2003
Age: 54

Donald L. Goings, 54, of rural Van Wert died at 9:30 p.m. EDT Saturday, April 19, 2003, at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind.

He was born Oct. 27, 1948, in Paulding County, the son of Charles A. Goings of Van Wert and the late Geraldine (Kilgore) Goings.

On April 20, 1968, he married Marcia L. Kreischer, who survives in Van Wert.

Mr. Goings was a lifetime farmer and had also worked at Aeroquip Corp., Van Wert, for 30 years.

A lifetime member of North Union United Methodist Church, Van Wert, he was also a member of Scott, Ohio Lions Club.

Other survivors include one son, Brandon Goings of Mentor; three daughters, Holly Goings of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Camille Goings and Tara Goings, both of Convoy; one brother, Gene (Lois) Goings of Van Wert, and four grandchildren, Alexis Goings, Dylan Miller, Shayne Goings and Hope Goings.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at North Union United Methodist Church, Van Wert, the Rev. James Howell officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Convoy.

Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.

Preferred memorials are the church or Convoy Fire & EMS.
