Samuel Blanton 06/20/2005

Samuel Blanton, age 73, of Township Road 184, Cardington, died at his residence June 20, 2005. He was born May 13, 1932 in Wallins Creek, KY to the late Granville Ray and Fannie Mae (Caldwell) Blanton.

Samuel had worked at the Morrow County Garage as an equipment operator and for Huber Manufacturing as a mechanic. He had served in the US Army and was a member of the Nelson Campbell VFW Post 8054.

On December 11, 1954 in Jonesville, Virginia he married the former Jewell W. Wynn and she survives in Cardington.

Survivors also include a daughter and her husband, Ann and Rodney Bigelow of Cardington and two sons, Samuel Blanton of Sunbury and Granville Blanton of Cardington; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers and 5 sisters.

A memorial service was held Monday, June 27, 2005 at Gompf Funeral Home.

Thelma R. Huffman 06/01/2005

Thelma R. Huffman, age 86, formerly of Marengo and Stockport, died Wednesday evening June 1, 2005 at the Ohio Eastern Star Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon. She was born on December 14, 1918 to the late B. Elton and Jessie (Southerton) Douth.

On June 30, 1945, in McConnellsville, Ohio she married George Huffman and he preceded her in death on July 8, 1989.

During her lifetime Thelma worked as a beautician and was a member of the Order of Eastern Stars, Webb Chapter #337 in Stockport, Ohio.

Survivors include one daughter and her husband, Connie and Larry Pryor, of Marengo; grandchildren, Lisa and Garrett VanCleef of Euclid, Laurie and Darren Geddes of Gahanna, Kristan and John Burpo of Leavenworth, KS and Jason Pryor of Mt. Gilead; and 5 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and her parents Thelma was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.

A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of the Ohio Eastern Star Home on Gambier Road in Mount Vernon on Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at 10:30AM. Pastor Jamie Gump, Hospice Chaplin, will officiate.

Gompf Funeral Service in Cardington assisted the family with arrangements.

Norma J. Sowers 05/28/2005

Norma J. Sowers, age 79, of ST. RT. 529, Cardington, died Saturday May 28, 2005 at SCCI Hospital in Mansfield. She was born on August 21,1925 to the late Arthur and Eugenia (Risiner) Cunefare.

On December 12, 1943, in Wheeler, Illinois, she married Wayne E. Sowers and he survives her in Cardington.

Additional survivors include two sons, Gerald Sowers of Clay City, KY and John Sowers of Cardington; one sister Karel Lambird of Greelee, CO.; and one brother Floyd Cunefare of Newton, IL.

In addition to her parents Norma was preceded in death by 7 brothers and 2 sisters.

Friends may call at Gompf Funeral Service in Cardington on Monday May 30, 2005 from 5-8PM where services will be held on Tuesday May 31 at 10:30 AM. Pastor Bill McCoy will officiate and burial will follow in Glendale Union Cemetery.

Diane K. Roush 05/26/2005

Diane K. Roush, age 62, died Thursday, May 26, 2005, at Morrow County Hospital in the Extended Care Unit. She was born on July 17, 1942 to Salo C. and Arlene M (Beckel) Geckley. Her father is deceased and her mother survives in Mt. Gilead.

Diane was a 1960 graduate of Cardington-Lincoln High School and worked as a laboratory technician at Morrow County Hospital for 25 years. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and loved her dog Chelsea, gardening, flowers, shopping and going out to eat with her friends.

In addition to her mother, Diane is survived by her son, Jeffrey Roush of Mt Gilead; a brother and sister in law, Roger and Carol Geckley of Westerville; a nephew, Rex Geckley of Worthington; a niece and her husband, Gretchen and Curtis Ohnstad and a great-niece, Sierra Ohnstad all of Buena Vista, CO.

Friends can come celebrate her life Friday, May 27, 2005 from 4-7PM at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11AM at the funeral home with a visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Reverend Bruce Hartley of Trinity United Methodist Church will officiate and burial will be in Glendale Cemetery.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider Hospice of Morrow County or the Morrow County Hospital Extended Care Unit in care of Gompf Funeral Service.

Marlin E Blough 05/22/2005

Marlin E Blough, age 68, of County Road 169, Cardington, died Sunday morning, May 22, 2005 at his residence. He was born October 21, 1936 in Rittman, Ohio to the late Galen E. and Leona (Easterday) Blough. Marlin had lived in this area for 28 years.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Diana Vaughn Blough; a son and his wife, Scott and Faline Blough of Marion; three grandchildren, Ethan, Zoe and Evan Blough.

Marlin was retired and enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, farming, hunting, fishing and camping. During his working career he spent twenty years at Taggart Building Supply in Marion as Plant Manager. Marlin also had worked at the Central Ohio Farmer's Co-op in Mt. Gilead, the Wayne County Sheriff's office for three years and at the Shreve Police Department, where he was a captain for five years, and he was a past member of the National Sheriff's Association. Marlin was a member of Center United Methodist Church.

Also surviving are four sisters and seven brothers; and from a previous marriage, three children and seven grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Marlin was preceded in death by one son, Darrel Blough, from his previous marriage.

Friends may call at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington on Wednesday, May 25, 2005 from 2-4 and 6-8PM where funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2005 at 11AM. Pastors Fred Caldwell and Jeri Bell-Brion will officiate and burial will be in Glendale Cemetery.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider Center United Methodist Church or Grady Hospice in care of the funeral home.

Balie Miller 05/19/2005

Balie Miller, age 93, formerly of Cardington, died Thursday morning May 19, 2005 at her grandson's home in Enon, Ohio. She was born April 19, 1912 in Westerville to the late Robert and Minnie (Iden) Smith.

She was a member of the New Covenant Fellowship Church in Marion and a former member of the Cardington Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include 2 sons and their wives, Richard and Jene Stevens of Richwood and Jim and Marsha Stevens of Delton, MI; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren and a sister, Ethel Byus of Ashley.

In addition to her parents, Balie was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

Friends may call Friday, May 20, 2005 from 5-8PM at Gompf Funeral Home where services will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2005 at 10:30AM. Pastor Steve Jobe of New Covenant Fellowship Church will officiate and burial will be in Glendale Cemetery.
