Died: Thursday, June 19, 2003
Age: 68

OHIO CITY — Donna Jean Zolman, 68, of Ohio City, died Thursday morning, June 19, 2003, at her residence.

She was born Feb. 4, 1935, in Adams County, Ind., the daughter of George R. Bragg of Ohio City and the late Ruby Pearl (Foster) Bragg. On April 26, 1953, she married Harold Earlen "Bill" Zolman, who preceded her in death on Nov. 19, 1976.

Mrs. Zolman was a homemaker.

Other survivors include:

Sons — Robert Jason (Samantha) Zolman of St. Petersburg, Fla., William Joseph Zolman of Florida

Brother — Donald E. (Brenda) Bragg of Ohio City

Sister — Joyce D. (Larry) Krugh of Ohio City

Two grandchildren and a niece, Cheryl Ann Legg of Celina, also survive.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Joan Bragg.

Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert, the Revs. Paul Eichar and David Kuthenia officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ohio City.

Calling hours are 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home

John Robert Danylchuk
Died: Wednesday, June 18, 2003
Age: 59

KILLEEN, Texas — Sgt. 1st Class John Robert "Scottie" Danylchuk, 59, of Killeen, formerly of Van Wert, died Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at a Texas hospital.

The funeral was held Saturday, June 21, 2003, at 1 p.m. at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home Chapel in Killeen with the Rev. Bok H. Lew officiating.

Burial with full military honors followed at Killeen Memorial Park in Killeen.

He was born Sept. 26, 1943, in Largs, Scotland.

His military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with "V" device, the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal with an oakleaf cluster and "V" device, the Good Conduct Medal with bronze clasp and five loops, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with three battle stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Valorous Unit Award, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with palm, the Republic of Korea Presidential Citation Badge and the Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Medal Unit Citation Badge.

Danylchuk was retired from the U.S. Army and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9192, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 29 and the 75th Ranger Regiment Association.

He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge 218 and the Korean Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Young Danylchuk of Killeen, Texas ; three sons, Scott (Tina) Danylchuk of Van Wert, Robert (Jayne) Danylchuk of Mountain Home, Idaho, and Craig Danylchuk of Van Wert; one daughter, Jaime (Craig) Schaffer of Van Wert, and eight grandchildren.

Danylchuk was preceded in death by his parents, John Danylchuk and Ann (Arthur) Margerison.

Preferred memorials are to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Association.

Clifford E. Hoffhines
Died: Saturday, September 06, 2003
Age: 86

ROCKFORD — Clifford E. Hoffhines, 86, of Rockford died at 10:39 p.m. (Indiana time) Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003, at Adams County Hospital, Decatur, Ind., where he had been a patient for the past 18 days.

He was born March 15, 1917, in Champaign County, Ill., the son of the late Dan and May (Staples) Hoffhines. On June 17, 1939, he married Bessie R. Smalley, who preceded him in death on June 21, 1996.

Mr. Hoffhines was a retired farmer.

Survivors include:

Son — Dennis (Marcia) Hoffhines of Rockford

Five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald, and a sister, Ethel Hoffhines.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, Rockford, with the Rev. Deb Domeier officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.

Calling hours are 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and an hour prior to service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Henry Junior Krick
Died: Saturday, September 06, 2003
Age: 84

MENDON — Henry Junior Krick, 84, of Mendon died at 5:25 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003, at his residence.

He was born April 10, 1919, in Van Wert County, the son of the late Henry W. Krick Sr. and Ellen (Murray) Krick. On April 9, 1938, he married Marcile Irene Sherman, who survives.

Mr. Krick retired from New Idea - Coldwater in 1981 after 33 years of service.

Other survivors include:

Sons — Larry (Alice) Krick and Martin (Betty) Krick, both of Celina, and Lowell (Martha) Krick of Mendon

Brothers — Arthur (Lois) Krick and Robert (Mary) Krick, both of Celina, and Eugene (Betty) Krick of Spencerville

Brother-in-law — Loyd Simpson of Mendon

Seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dora Catherine Simpson, and an infant sister, Leona, a grandson, Alyn Krick, and one great-grandson, Ian Brazen.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mendon First Church of God, the Rev. Dean Bruce officiating. Burial will be in Mendon Cemetery, Mendon.

Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Mendon.

Marta Pearl Gehres
Died: Friday, September 05, 2003
Age: 92

Marta Pearl Gehres, 92, formerly of 510 S. Chestnut St., Van Wert, died at 10:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, at Hearth & Home at Van Wert in Van Wert.

She was born April 23, 1911, in St. Marys Township, Adams County, Ind., the daughter of the late Harry and Fanny L. (Smith) Ray. On May 1, 1937, she married Durward Belmont Gehres, who preceded her in death on Aug. 31, 1984.

Mrs. Gehres retired as a fifth grade elementary school teacher from Wayne Trace Schools. A graduate of Pleasant Mills High School and Defiance College, she was a member of First Baptist Church in Van Wert and the women’s missionary society. She was a life member of the Ohio Education Association.

Survivors include two sons, David E. (Dorothy) Gehres of Line Lexington, Pa., and John E. (Joyce) Gehres of Fort Wayne, Ind.; one daughter, Ruth Ann Gehres of Ann Arbor, Mich.; a brother, Robert (Marie) Ray of Rupert, W.Va.; four sisters, Rosemary (Clarence) Crabtree of Mount Sterling, Ky., Ruth Spitler, formerly of Willshire, Thelma (Clarence) Snow of Brookville, Fla., and Jean Ray of Decatur, Ind.; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Glenn Ray, and a sister, Frances Foor.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert, the Rev. Steve A. Robinson of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.

Calling hours are 6-8 p.m. today and an hour ahead of service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are First Baptist Church or donor’s choice.

Alvina L. Roth
Died: Thursday, September 04, 2003
Age: 91

WAPAKONETA — Alvina L. Roth, 91, of Wapakoneta died at 11:10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, at Auglaize Acres.

She was born Sept. 6, 1911, in Fryburg, the daughter of the late Rudolph and Mary (Kinstle) Ruppert. On Feb. 16, 1938, she married Edwin H. Roth, who survives.

Mrs. Roth was a homemaker. A member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta, and its former Ladies Sodality, she was an auxiliary member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 691 and the Knights of Columbus, Council 1272, both of Wapakoneta. She was active with the Auglaize County Democratic Party and had worked many years with Wapakoneta City Polls, precinct 4.

Other survivors include three sons, Richard Roth of Van Wert and Ronald Roth and Steve (Deb) Pope, both of Wapakoneta; five daughters, Rosie Tobias, Botkins, Eloize "Ellie" Zuber of Wapakoneta, Karen Cozad of Troy, Melinda Trinosky of Van Wert and Monica (Bobby) Bounds of Laurinburg, N.C.; 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; one brother, Eugene (Alice) Ruppert of Findlay, and a sister, Elzena Greve of Wapakoneta.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Widner; three sons-in-law, Bruce Zuber, Donald Tobias and Charlie Cozad; a granddaughter, Rochelle Martin; four brothers, Oscar, Ray, Marion and Melvin Ruppert, and a sister, Shirley Pope.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Wapakoneta.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, Wapakoneta.

Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph School or St. Rita’s Hospice.

Edna D. Whitney Rupp
Died: Wednesday, September 03, 2003
Age: 92

SPENCERVILLE — Edna D. Whitney Rupp, 92, formerly of Spencerville and St. Marys, died at 3:25 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, at St. Marys Living Center, where she had resided for eight years.

She was born July 3, 1911, in Noble Township, Auglaize County, the daughter of the late Harry J. and Minnie O. Coil Schamp. On June 10, 1934, she married Ralph J. Whitney, who preceded her in death on Oct. 26, 1957. Then on June 8, 1968, she married the Rev. Lowell W. Rupp, who preceded her in death on July 12, 1979.

Mrs. Rupp had worked for 7 1/2 years at Joint Township Memorial Hospital in St. Marys as a laboratory secretary.

Survivors include:

Sons — Joseph A. (Linda) Whitney of rural St. Marys and the Rev. Neal D. (Renee) Whitney of Elida

Daughters — Anita L. (Donald) Barnt of Kenton and Carol A. (Steven) McMurray of St. Marys

Stepson — Joseph W. (Joan) Rupp of Littleton, Colo.

Stepdaughters — Priscilla M. (George) Otto of Dayton and M. Sue (Richard) McKnight of Cincinnati

Brother — A. Alfred (Sarah) Schamp of Holland, Mich.

Sisters — Rose Marie Wehmeyer of St. Marys and Mary Lea (Robert) Hegemeier of Bradenton, Fla.

Sister-in-law — Evelyn Schamp of St. Marys

Twenty-three grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandchild also survive.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth J., H. Burdette and James B. Schamp, two grandchildren, and one step-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Walnut Grove Church, north of St. Marys, the Rev. Dale L. Mangen officiating. Burial will follow in the Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.

Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
