OHIO CITY - James L Hoverman
Died: Tuesday, November 5, 2002
Age: 66

OHIO CITY - James L. Hoverman, 66, of Ohio City died at 8:17 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind., following a brief illness.

He was born Dec. 31, 1935, in Ohio City, the son of the late Donald and Katherine (Moyer) Hoverman. On June 27, 1958, in Ohio City, he married Janet L. DeBolt, who survives.

Mr. Hoverman retired in 1991 from International Harvestor with 31 years of service where he was an inspector and also a maintenance worker. He was a driver for many Amish families for the past four years. A 1955 graduate of Ohio City High School, he was in the Army National Guard for four years and was a member of Van Wert Eagles Aerie and UAW.

Other survivors include three daughters, Nancy (Norman) Brokaw of Decatur, Ind., Debbie (Charles) Dixon and Michelle (Greg) Ebel, both of Van Wert; one son, Darrell Hoverman of Ohio City; a sister, Kaulene Wortman of Van Wert; one brother, Raymond (Mary) Hoverman of McComb; an aunt, Mary Wright of Van Wert; grandchildren, Jamie (David) Azbill, Jessica, Tiffany and Brice Brokaw, Garrick and Alisha Hoverman,  Taylor Dixon and Cory and Alix Ebel, and great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Brokaw and Caleb Azbill.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Connie Garwood.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. John Lutheran Church, Ohio City, the Rev. Denise Brown officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ohio City.

Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Friday at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, and an hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

Preferred memorials are Heart Association, St. John Lutheran Church, Ohio City.

CELINA - Carrie E Britten
Died: Monday, November 4, 2002
Age: 91

CELINA - Carrie E. Britten, 91, of Celina died at 4:19 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at Joint Township Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.

She was born Feb. 19, 1911, in Rockford, the daughter of the late Charles and Trecia (Alexander) Donovan. On Aug. 24, 1931, she married Vernon Britten, who preceded her in death on Jan. 23, 1976.

Mrs. Britten retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., St. Marys.

Survivors include:

Son - Jackie Lee (Virginia) Britten of Dade City, Fla.

Daughters - Juanita (Richard) Rosendahl of Yuma, Ariz., Betty (Ivor) Morris and Judy (Frank) Crabtree, both of Celina

Brother - Clarence Donovan

Sisters - Marie Howell of Celina, Ruth Chaney of Mendon and Mary French of Coldwater

Thirteen grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by five brothers and a sister.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Lehman Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Kathleen Hayes officiating. Burial will be in Mercer Memory Gardens, Celina.

Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

CONVOY - Permilla Ann Codling
Died: Monday, November 4, 2002
Age: 76

CONVOY - Permilla Ann Codling, 76, of Convoy, Ohio, died at 10:10 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at the Convoy Care Center in Convoy, Ohio, following an extended illness.

Born Dec. 1, 1925, in Van Wert, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Harry Adrian and Ola Ethel (Reed) Wherry.

She was a 1943 graduate of Van Wert High School. In 1944, she moved to Washington, D.C., to work as a secretary at the headquarters of the U.S. Coast Guard.

She married the late Paul Emmitt Codling on April 21, 1951, at the First Methodist Church in Van Wert, Ohio. Mr. Codling died on June 12, 1994.

Mrs. Codling was active in the United Methodist Women's group at the Convoy United Methodist Church, where she was a member. She also was a secretary at the church in the 1970s.

She was a member of Church Women United. With her husband, she was a member in Chapter 62 of the Roll-In Sams, Van Wert.

Mrs. Codling retired from Fisher's Big Wheel in Van Wert, Ohio, in 1992, where she worked as an associate.

She is survived by a brother, Harry Adrian Wherry Jr. of Indianapolis, Ind.; a sister, Maxine Bosscher of Grand Rapids, Mich.; three daughters, Paula Miller and Patti Cox of Convoy, and Phyllis Codling of Madison, Ind.; a son-in-law, Steve Miller of Convoy; four grandchildren, J.P. Cox and Lisa Cox of Convoy, Eric Miller of Paulding and Erin Miller of Columbus; several nieces and nephews; and many cousins.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Genevieve Webb.

Visiting hours are from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Cowan & Son Stainfield Memorial Home and one hour before the funeral, which is 11 a.m. Saturday at the Convoy United Methodist Church. The Rev. Gregory Leigh will officiate.

Honorary pall bearers are Larry Webb, Steve Miller, J.P. Cox, Lisa Cox, Erin Miller, Eric Miller.

Mrs. Codling will be cremated, with her remains to be interred at Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert. A family graveside memorial service is planned.

Memorials may be made to Convoy United Methodist Church and the Van Wert Special Olympics, 7478 Bergner Road, Convoy, OH 45832, c/o Margaret Miller.

CONVOY - Phyllis L Mumper
Died: Monday, November 4, 2002
Age: 56

CONVOY - Phyllis L. Mumper, 56, of Convoy died at 4:05 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at her residence.

She was born Aug. 11, 1946, in Busy, Ky., the daughter of Ezellia (Bailey) McIntosh, who survives in Convoy and the late James McIntosh On Aug. 14, 1992, in West Bend, Wis., she married Marvin J. Mumper, who survives in Convoy.

Mrs. Mumper was an office manager for 15 years in Wisconsin and four years in the Convoy area.

Other survivors include her children, Robert (fiancee Stacy)  Taylor of Delphos, William (Amy) Knoll of Van Wert and Scott (Julie) Bates of Convoy; stepchildren, Ronald (Dawn) Mumper of Fond du Lac, Wis., and Robin (Richard) Pease of Waupon, Wis.; three brothers, James W. (Pam) McIntosh of Naperville, Ill., Jerry (Jan) McIntosh of Convoy and Jeff (Mary Ann) McIntosh of Van Wert; two sisters, Ann (Stokley) Colwell of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Evelyn Kerns of Syracuse, Ind.; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Gearhart, Mack & Jurczyk Funeral Home, Convoy, the Rev. Greg Leigh officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Convoy.

Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is Community Health Professionals & Hospice.

PAULDING - Frances F. 'Shortie' Kauser
Died: Sunday, November 3, 2002
Age: 60

PAULDING - Frances F. "Shortie" Kauser, 60, died at 3:50 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at her residence following an extended illness.

She was born Nov. 23, 1941, in Paulding County, the daughter of the late Forrest "Bud" and Clara (Baughman) Howell.

On Oct. 18, 1958, she married John Henry Kauser, who survives.

Mrs. Kauser was a homemaker and vice president of Kauser Trucking Inc. of Paulding.

Other survivors include:

Daughters - Jill (David) Evans of Concord, Mich., and Joan (Mike) Mapes of Paulding

Sons - Michael (Cindy) Kauser, Brad (Kendra) Kauser and Brett (Heidi) Kauser, all of Paulding

Sister - Anna Rodefeld of Fremont

Ten grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Janice Harris.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Paulding, the Rev. Mary Beth Smith-Webb officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Paulding.

Calling hours are 2-5 and 6-9 p.m. Wednesday and 8-9 a.m. Thursday at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, and an hour prior to service time Thursday at the church.

MONROEVILLE
Died: Sunday, November 3, 2002

MONROEVILLE, Ind. - Betty A. House, 80, a lifetime resident of the Monroeville area, died unexpectedly at 12:58 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Church of the Nazarene, Monroeville, the Revs. Milton Wilson and Dale B. Worcester officiating. Burial will be in Monroeville Memorial Cemetery.

Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville, and an hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.

Maxine Moser
Died: Wednesday, December 31, 2003
Age: 83

DECATUR, Ind. - Maxine L. Moser, 83, of Decatur, formerly of Wren, died unexpectedly early Tuesday morning, Dec. 31, 2002, at her residence.

She was born Nov. 3, 1919, in Van Buren, Ind., the daughter of the late Mahlon D. and Mildred G. (Beal) Brown. Her first husband, John A. Baumann, preceded her in death. She married her second husband, Jason L. "Jay" Moser on April 18, 1979. He preceded her in death on July 11, 1998.

Mrs. Moser was a homemaker and had also worked at the Kroger grocery store in Decatur for 27 1/2 years.

Survivors include:

Daughters - Sandra Baumann of Muncie, Ind., Anne (William) Downs of Warrensburg, Mo., Jill (Dick) Bowen of Wren and Jayne (Jim) Moser Miller of Butler

Brothers - Robert Brown of Van Buren and Marvin Brown of Valparaiso, Ind., Carl Brown of Largo, Fla., and Larry Brown of Nineveh, Ind.

Sisters - Helen (Richard) Schnitz of Decatur, Doris Alexander of Franklin, Ind., Linda (Jerry) Higgins of Plano, Texas, and Judith (Phillip) Hoopingarner of New Haven, Ind.

Five step grandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Bertha J. Malson, one brother, Harold D. Brown, and a stepgrandson, Ric Bowen.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul United Church of Christ in rural Van Wert, the Rev. Jerry Flueckiger officiating. Burial will be in Evangelical Protestant Cemetery, rural Van Wert.

Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Friday at Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, and an hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

LODI - Pauline Remington
Died: Wednesday, December 31, 2003
Age: 74

LODI - Pauline Remington, 74, of Lodi died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at Evergreen Care Center in Medina where she had resided for the past four years.

She was born Aug. 28, 1928, in Biddeford, Maine, the daughter of the late Laurence and Alice  Johnson Roussin. On April 16, 1950, she married Robert Remington, who survives in Washington, D.C.

Mrs. Remington had worked at Westfield Insurance Companies in the Subrogation Claims Dept.

Other survivors include:

Children - Christine (Ronald) Weiser and Scott (Regina) Remington, both of West Salem, William (Lynn) Remington of Lafayette, Ohio, Patricia (Brian) Kinzie of Van Wert and Peter Remington of Lodi

Eight grandchildren and one great-grandson also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at Parker & Son Funeral Home, 210 Medina St., Lodi, Jerry Roth officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Lodi.

Calling hours are 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
