Carl L. Reidenbach
Died: Tuesday, March 25, 2003
Age: 87

DECATUR, Ind. - Carl L. Reidenbach, 87, of rural Decatur, died at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 8, 1915, in Harrison Township, Van Wert County, the son of the late Emil and Agnes (Myers) Reidenbach. On May 1, 1938, he married Lucille L. Laudahn, who preceded him in death on April 7, 1980.

Mr. Reidenbach was a retired farmer.

Survivors include:

Sons -- Max E. Reidenbach and Bruce L. Reidenbach, both of Decatur

Daughters -- Bonnie (David) Magley of Ossian, Ind., and Marilyn (Bob) Baughman of Decatur

Eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Kirk Reidenbach, a brother, Marcus M. Reidenbach, and a sister, Emma Myers.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Zion United Church of Christ, Decatur, the Rev. Randy Rossman officiating. Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery.

Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Haggard & Sefton Funeral Home, Decatur, and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.

Gladys M. Lucas
Died: Monday, March 24, 2003
Age: 81

DELPHOS - Gladys M. Lucas, 81, of Delphos died at 2:40 a.m. Monday, March 24, 2003, at Vancrest Health Care Center.

She was born July 20, 1921, in Delphos, the daughter of the late James F. and Millie (Wohltman) Martin. On Sept. 11, 1937, she married I. Emory Lucas, who preceded her in death on Oct. 13, 1970.

Mrs. Lucas was employed at the DWG Cigar Factory for 17 years, then worked at I&K until retiring after 11 years.

Survivors include:

Son -- Philip (LaVerne) Lucas of Windsor, Colo.

Daughter -- Kathy Seffernick of Delphos

Brother -- Joseph Martin of Delphos

Five grandchildren, Eric, Kelli (Richard) Mann, First Lieutenant Shawn (Stephanie) Seffernick (who is currently in Operation Iraqi Freedom), Carrie and Courtney Lucas and six great-grandchildren, Danielle, Cody, Kyle, Heather, Gavin and Colin, also survive.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Ethel Feathers, Esther Hoover, Mary Jane Whitaker, four brothers, John Henry, Howard, Richard and James Martin, and one granddaughter, Tracy Jo Perrigan.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. April 5 at the First Christian Union Church, Delphos, the Rev. Ron Drage officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery at a later date.

There will be no visitation.

Rev. Ervin E. Stevens
Died: Sunday, March 23, 2003
Age: 75

HARROD - Rev. Ervin E. Stevens, 75, died at 12:05 a.m. Sunday, March 23, 2003, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Chiles & Sons-Laman Lewis Chapel, the Revs. Ernest Plemmons and Bill Spencer officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery - Westminster.

Calling hours are 6-8 p.m. today and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Jerry C. Tate
Died: Saturday, March 22, 2003
Age: 40

Jerry C. "Tater" Tate, 40, of Van Wert died Thursday afternoon, March 20, 2003, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Monday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home.

Calling hours are 2-5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are the children.

Veda Marcele (Sheley) Pollock
Died: Friday, March 21, 2003
Age: 98

BEVERLY, Mass. - Veda Marcele (Sheley) Pollock, 98, died Friday, March 21, 2003, at Blueberry Hill Nursing Home in Beverly.

The daughter of Perry Vernon and Amanda Elma (Gamble) Sheley, she was born on Jan. 28, 1905, in Middle Point, Ohio. Married to Francis Austin Pollock on Dec. 25, 1922, they enjoyed 53 years of marriage until his death on Sept. 20, 1975.

During World War II, Veda worked as an assembler of aircraft instruments at Kolhsman's Plant. After the war, Mrs. Pollock retired after 19 years as a legal secretary in a New York City law firm. She and her husband returned to Middle Point after 38 years residence in New York State. Mrs. Pollock moved to Boxford, Mass., in 1996 to be near her daughter's family.

Mrs. Pollock was a member of the Middle Point Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Delphos Chapter 26 and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also a former member of the Middle Point Jolly Timers.

Two sisters, Ethel Leona Sheley and Fannie Blanche (Sheley) Allen, and two brothers, Lendel Arly Sheley and Robert Edward Sheley preceded her in death. Her only daughter, Frances Veda (Pollock) Fitzgibbons and son-in-law, Edward Richard Fitzgibbons of Boxford, Mass., survive her. She is also survived by a grandson, Paul Thomas Fitzgibbons of Groveland, Mass, and a granddaughter, Veda Louise (Fitzgibbons) Connolly and grandson-in-law, George Francis Connolly Jr. of Georgetown, Mass. Mrs. Pollock leaves five great-grandchildren, Michael, Brian and Joseph Fitzgibbons and Patrick and Kathleen Veda Connolly. Mrs. Pollock also leaves three nieces: Madonna (Allen) Stittsworth of Van Wert, Juanita Ann (Sheley) Brink and Patty Jo (Sheley) Miller, both of Findlay, and a nephew, William Allen of  Oklahoma City, Okla.

Burial was in Ridge Cemetery, Ridge Township, near Middle Point. A memorial service is planned at a date to be determined at the Middle Point Methodist Church.

Henry S. Rodriguez
Died: Friday, March 21, 2003
Age: 67

CELINA - Henry S. Rodriguez, 67, of Celina died at 8:28 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2003, at Community Hospital, Coldwater.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Celina.

Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina.

Louis C. Scherger
Died: Friday, March 21, 2003
Age: 83

Louis C. Scherger, 83, of Delphos died at 6:40 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2003, at Vancrest Health Care Center of Delphos.

He was born Feb. 13, 1920, in Delphos, the son of the late Thomas G. and Flora (Wulfhorst) Scherger. On Sept. 4, 1943, in Delphos, he married Rosemary A. Metzner, who survives.

Mr. Scherger had been part owner and vice president and president of Delphos Bending Co., then retired from Van Wert County Health & Human Services. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos; Knights of Columbus Council 1362, Delphos; a charter member and past president of the Delphos Rotary Club; a member of BPOE, Lima; past president and member of the Delphos City School Board for 34 years; a member of St. Vincent dePaul Society, board member of Arnold C. Dienstberger Foundation; Cub Scout leader; past president of St. John's Parish Council; lector, cantor, choir member and first lay distributor at St. John's Church and very active in the Delphos community.

Survivors include three sons, John C. (Sheri) Scherger of Kokomo, Ind., Dr. James L. (Carol) Scherger of Sandusky and Robert C. (Polly) Scherger of Wapakoneta; two daughters, Susan (Notre Dame Sr. Louise) Scherger of Delphos and Dr. Mary Elizabeth (Ray) Bonhomme of Melbourne, Fla.; one sister, Betty Kundert of Delphos, and six grandchildren, Matthew Scherger, Allison (Patrick) O'Donnell, Carrie Scherger, Jay Scherger, Rachel Scherger and Hannah Scherger.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Tom Scherger.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Rev. Thomas Gorman officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Delphos.

Calling hours are 1-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Kolkmeyer-Helmkamp-Orians Funeral Home, Delphos, where a Knights of Columbus rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday followed by a parish wake at 8 p.m. Sunday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Parish Foundation, Sisters of Notre Dame, St. Rita's Hospice or Arnold C. Dienstberger Foundation.

M. Jolayne Bogart
Died: Thursday, March 20, 2003
Age: 65

M. Jolayne Bogart, 65, of Van Wert died at 5:45 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2003, at her residence.

She was born Feb. 14, 1938, in Cincinnati, the daughter of the late Gordon F. and Gladys L. (Filder) Westhaus.

Mrs. Bogart had been working as the manager of Laudick's Jewelry Store in Celina. She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert.

Survivors include two sons, Tim (Stacey) Bogart of Carlton, Ore., and David (Lisa) Bogart of West Lake; three daughters, Deb (Steve) Laudick and Mary (Damon) Yackey, both of Van Wert, and Linda (Mike) Kennaw of Lynden, Wash.; three brothers, Harry (Carol) Westhaus of Livonia, Mich., William (Diana) Westhaus of Ann Arbor, Mich., and John (Arleen) Westhaus of Elk Grove Village, Ill.; 18 grandchildren, Emylee, Isaac, Christina, Liliana, Avery, Jack, Jolie and Maislin Bogart, Ben (Kimberly), Kristy, Nathan, Katie and Cameron Laudick, Levi, Kaitlyn Jolayne and Kyle Kennaw, and Rylan and Hannah Yackey, and one great-granddaughter, Larissa Laudick.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Van Wert, the Rev. Randy Giesige officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.

Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home where a parish rosary service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Sunday.

Preferred memorials are Community Health Professionals Hospice program, St. Mary's Catholic School Endowment Fund or donor's choice.

Frank A. Mowery
Died: Thursday, March 20, 2003
Age: 79

Frank A. Mowery, 79, of Spencerville died at 9:40 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2003, at Roselawn Manor Nursing Home in Spencerville.

He was born April 11, 1923, in Ada, the son of the late Clifford and Kathryn (Thompson) Mowery. On Dec. 23, 1968, he married Juanita I. Miller, who survives.

Mr. Mowery, a factory worker, retired from S&S Products Co. in Lima with 30 years of service. In the 1940s and 1950s, he worked as a rancher in Colorado, training horses.

Other survivors include:

Sons -- Charles (Sherri Cook) Mowery of Delphos, James (Rebecca) Robey of Kossuth, Mark (Sharon) Robey and Larry (Linda) Hilyard, both of Spencerville, Ernest Robey of Lima and Walter Dean Hilyard of Mountain View, Mo.; four daughters, Susan Tidwell and Martha Robey, both of Spencerville, Tamara (James) Sanders of Delphos and Sheridan Thompson of Lima; one brother, Clarence Mowery of Lima; two sisters, Lillian Hollister of Ada and Elizabeth Guyton of Springfield; 25 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Henry Mowert, and two sisters, Esther DeLong and Kathryn Kahler.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville. Burial will be held at a later date in Spencerville Cemetery.

Calling hours are after 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
