Louise H. Snyder
Died: Thursday, March 20, 2003
Age: 90
Louise H. Snyder, 90, of Ohio City died at 10:10 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2003, at Woodcrest Nursing Home, Decatur, where she had been a resident since July 9, 2002.
She was born Dec. 8, 1912, in Basking Ridge, N.J., the daughter of the late Harold W. and Hilda H. (Carter) Headley. On June 14, 1941, in Decatur, she married Forest O. Snyder, who preceded her in death on April 12, 1987.
Mrs. Snyder retired from teaching with Crestview Local Schools where she taught English, Home Economics, and elementary education. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and her master's degree from Saint Francis College in Fort Wayne, Ind. She was a member of Wren United Brethren in Christ Church and the Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include two sons, Fred L. Snyder of Ohio City and Robert H. (Colleen) Snyder of Convoy; a brother, Will C. (Bobbie) Headley of Normal, Ill.; one sister, Frances (Peter) Mallett of Milton, Vt.; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one stepdaughter, Joan Ryan, and one sister, Roberta.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, the Revs. Lee Cook and John Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.
Calling hours are 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Wren EMS.
Jerry Curtiss "Tater" Tate
Died: Thursday, March 20, 2003
Age: 40
Jerry Curtiss "Tater" Tate, 40, of rural Van Wert died Thursday afternoon, March 20, 2003, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 28, 1962, in Columbus, the son of Jimmy Tate of Mt. Hope, W.Va., and Janet (John) Rife of Van Wert. On Dec. 5, 1996, he married Shelly DeWitt, who survives in Van Wert.
Mr. Tate, 1981 graduate of Van Wert High School, was a former truck driver and currently a painter at Strick Corp.
Other survivors include four children, Teddy, Terricka, Tia and Kathy Tate, all of Van Wert; three stepchildren, Britni Wells, Kayla Wells and Hillary Wells, all of Van Wert; one brother, Henry Rife Jr. of Van Wert; his grandmother, Hester Harrah of Mt. Hope; several aunts, uncles and cousins, and a nephew, Ethan Rife of Van Wert.
He was preceded in death by one son, Toby Curtiss Tate, a sister, Kathy Tate, and his grandfather, Ted Harrah.
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. today at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, the Rev. Keith Miller officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.
Calling hours are 2-5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is the children.
Inas E. Mace
Died: Wednesday, March 19, 2003
Age: 93
Inas E. Mace, 93, formerly of 507 S. Washington St., Van Wert, died at 6:45 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Vancrest Health Care Center, Van Wert.
She was born Feb. 13, 1909, in Van Wert County, the daughter of the late Ed and Estella (Wolfe) Gardner. On May 24, 1930, she married L. Earl Mace, who preceded her in death in November 1975.
Mrs. Mace taught for a total of 16 years, two years at Union Township School in Van Wert County and 14 years at Spencerville, retiring in 1969.
Survivors include:
Daughters -- Kathryn (Charlie) Wojcik of Fayetteville, Romaine (Merle) Whetstone of Van Wert, Janet (Dick) Homan of Fairfield Glade, Tenn., and Earlene (Ron) Rhodes of Plain City
Brother -- Dwight (Joan) Gardner of Van Wert
Sisters -- Lena Shearer and Esther (Lavon) Warner, both of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Joyce (Jim) Rosendahl of Convoy
Twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Beth Branstetter, and a sister.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22 at Convoy United Methodist Church, the Revs. Donald Clarke and Paul Miller officiating.
Visitation is one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
Donald Mox
Died: Wednesday, March 19, 2003
Age: 79
DELPHOS - Donald Mox, 79, died at 10:27 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at Vancrest Health Care Center, Van Wert.
He was born Nov. 2, 1923, in Delphos, the son of the late Clarence E. and Edna P. (Feaster) Mox. On Feb. 1, 1947, he married Ruby Marie Blackmore, who preceded him in death on Jan. 27, 1996.
Mr. Mox, a 1941 graduate of Delphos Jefferson, was a real estate broker for 30 years, a farmer and raised livestock. He was confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church on May 30, 1937. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, the Elks, the Lima Moose Club and the Auctioneer & Real Estate Association. He was a charter member of the Delphos FFA, from whom he received an award. He participated in the St. John's festival for many years, served as a livestock auctioneer at Allen and Van Wert County fairs and was the original auctioneer for the Delphos Country Club Calcutta.
Survivors include two sons, Steven A. (Laura) Mox of Rockford and Michael D. (Rose) Mox of Lima; three sisters, Alice Mayer of Elida, Norma (Ted) Koeing of Delphos and Helen (Ted) Gorman of Ottoville; four grandchildren, Crystal Mox, Amy (Josh) Ebling, Amber Mox and Andy Mox, and one great-grandchild, Kale R. Ebling.
He was preceded in death by one son, Larry E. Mox.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, the Rev. William Schultz officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Delphos.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Harter & Son Funeral Home, Delphos, and one hour prior to service time Saturday at the church.
Preferred memorial is American Cancer Society.
Violet Mae "Vi" Fulk
Died: Tuesday, March 18, 2003
Age: 89
PAULDING - Violet Mae "Vi" Fulk, 89, died at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at Dallas Lamb Foundation Home, Payne, where she had been a resident for two years.
She was born May 10, 1913, in Tully Township, Van Wert County, the daughter of the late Kirk and Elva (Reed) Whitman. On May 5, 1930, she married Floyd A. Fulk, who preceded her in death on Oct. 1, 1951.
Mrs. Fulk was a cook at the former Paul & Millie's/Harry's Lunch/Jim & Jane's for 25 years.
Survivors include:
Sons -- William (Edna) Fulk of Paulding, Earl (Ruby) Fulk of Bryan, Tom Fulk of Defiance and Jim Fulk of Toledo
Daughters -- Joyce (Harold) Dangler of Bryan, Shirley (Paul) Cramer, Betty (John) Clark and Diane Foor, all of Paulding, and Nancy (Richard) Burditt of Hamilton, Ind.
Sister -- Helen MacDonald of Bluffton, Ind.
Twenty grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Wilma Jean Fulk; two brothers, Art and Lawrence Whitman; two sisters, Alice Corbin and Gertie Grace; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Billy, Randy and Rex, and one great-grandson, Mike.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church, Paulding, the Rev. Susan Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Lehman Cemetery, Payne.
Calling hours are 2-9 p.m. Thursday and 8-9 a.m. Friday at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
Ruth Anna Helm
Died: Wednesday, April 30, 2003
Age: 86
CONVOY - Ruth Anna Helm, 86, of rural Convoy died at 11:40 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2003, at her residence.
She was born April 15, 1917, in Van Wert County, the daughter of the late George and Orah (Pancake) Rummel. On Sept. 15, 1938, she married Kenneth W. Helm, who preceded her in death on March 12, 1992.
Mrs. Helm was a homemaker and helped her husband farm. A 1934 graduate of Convoy High School, she attended Giffin College in Van Wert. She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, its Fidelities Guild, the Japonica Garden Club and the Golden Classics, all in Convoy.
Survivors include a son, Jerry W. (Catherine Ann) Helm of Convoy; one daughter, Connie Crouch of Gahanna; six grandchildren, Jeff (Lori) Helm of Ohio City, Debra (Brent) Neate of Van Wert, Tina (Wes) Skelton of Convoy, Kim (Lenny) Roberts of Coral Springs, Fla., Renae (Michael) Layer of Kettering and Rick Crouch of Kettering, and 12 great-grandchildren, Damian and Haley Helm, Baylee, Trevor and Dylan Neate, Olivia, Tanner and Leslie Skelton, Caleb and Brett Roberts and Tyler and Madison Layer.
She was preceded in death by an infant brother.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Convoy, the Rev. Jan A. Berthinee of Trinity Evangelical officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Convoy.
Calling hours are 1-7 p.m. Sunday at Cowan & Son Stainfield Memorial Home, Convoy, and an hour prior to service time Monday at the church.

Cloyd M. Burkheimer Jr
Died: Tuesday, April 29, 2003
Age: 56
Cloyd M. "Stoney" Burkheimer Jr., 56, of Van Wert died at 12:32 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2003, at Van Wert County Hospital, Van Wert.
He was born Dec. 8, 1946, in Allen County, the son of the late Cloyd M. Sr. and Beulah L. (Graham) Burkheimer. On June 7, 1968, he married Patricia E. McCune, who survives.
Mr. Burkheimer worked at Federal Mogul, Van Wert, for over 26 years then and currently co-owned and operated Tricia's Quality Furniture, Van Wert. He attended First Friends Church, Van Wert, and promoted and ran the B&B Demolition Derby at the Van Wert and Paulding county fairs and in several small towns in Indiana.
Survivors include four sons, James S. (Ava) Burkheimer, Brent A. Burkheimer, Joshua M. Burkheimer and Christopher C. Burkheimer, all of Van Wert; one brother, Emerson (Vicki) Burkheimer of Mercer; a sister, Linda S. (Albert) Swany of Swanton, and one grandchild, Sierra Bixler.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, the Rev. Job Stagner officiating. Burial will be in Kossuth Cemetery, Kossuth.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Van Wert Fire Department.
Arnold Couch Sr
Died: Tuesday, April 29, 2003
Age: 81
Arnold Couch Sr., 81, of Van Wert died at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2003, at Van Wert Manor Nursing Home, Van Wert.
He was born Feb. 2, 1922, in Hazzard, Ky., the son of the late Chester and Polly Couch. He married Marie Hanson, who preceded him in death on June 2, 1977.
Mr. Couch was a retired coal miner.
Survivors include:
Sons - Ed Couch, Arnold Couch Jr., Lester Couch and Harold Couch
Daughters - Jane Krois and Nora Couch
Brothers - Kermit Couch, Woody Couch and Dan Couch
Sister - Corsa Stidham
Nine grandchildren, Ted Couch, Mark Couch, Chris Couch, Joseph Couch, Robert Krois, David Krois, Steven Krois, Maggie Couch and Jared Couch, and 11 grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by three sons, Chester and twins, Johnie and Jack, three brothers, Mark, Don and Floyd, and three sisters, Reva, Ollie and Shirley.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Brickner Funeral Home, the Rev. Paul W. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.
