William E Oglesbee
Died: Saturday, August 17, 2002
Age: 80

William E. Oglesbee, 80, of Van Wert died at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002, at his residence in Van Wert.

He was born Aug. 22, 1921, in  Jackson Township, Putman County, the son of the late George and Anna (Foulk) Oglesbee. On May 4, 1942, he married Rosemary Webster, who survives.

Mr. Oglesbee was a retired farmer from  Jackson Township and retired from M&W Trailers, Ottoville.

Survivors include a son, Roger D. (Mary) Oglesbee of Van Wert; a daughter, Mary Ann (Ivan) Rockwell of Traverse City, Mich.; one daughter-in-law, Lee Ann Oglesbee of Piqua; five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, William E. Oglesbee.

Private service will be held at the convenience of the family at King Cemetery, Washington Township.

There will be no visitation.

Arrangements were handled by Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert.

Charles D Jacobs
Died: Friday, August 16, 2002
Age: 82

Charles D. Jacobs, 82, formerly of 825 Allingham St., died at 11:40 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, at Van Wert Manor Nursing Home.

He was born Oct. 20, 1919, in Decatur, Ind., the son of the late Thomas A. and Eva Pearl (Snyder) Jacobs.

Mr. Jacobs served in the U.S. Army for over 20 years. He served in the Army during World War II in the Phillipines, the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict.

Survivors include:

Sisters -- Hazel Mason and Mary Jacobs, both of Van Wert, Dorothy Windsor of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Margaret Patch of Decatur, Ind.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ida Jacobs and Florence Jacobs.

Burial of the cremated remains will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.

There will be no visitation.

Arrangements were handled by Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert.

DELPHOS - Charles F F. Klaus
Died: Wednesday, August 14, 2002
Age: 68

DELPHOS -- Charles F. Klaus, 68, of Delphos died at 7:42 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, at his residence.

He was born Feb. 20, 1934, in Venedocia, the son of the late Frank and Helen Klaus. On April 27, 1957, in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos, he married Lea Elwer, who survives.

Mr. Klaus retired July 31, 2002, from the Van Wert County Sheriff's Department after over 21 years of service. He most recently served as jail administrator for the Van Wert County Jail. He was owner and operator of Klaus Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning for over 30 years. A member of the City of Delphos Police Auxiliary, he was a patrolman from 1974-81 and a member of the Van Wert County Sheriff's Dept. Auxiliary. He was a deputy from 1972-74.

A U.S. Army veteran from 1954-56, he served in the Korean War in Okinawa. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking and was a 1952 graduate of Spencerville High School. He was affiliated with Buckeye State Sheriffs' Association, Van Wert American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3035 and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Delphos.

Other survivors include three daughters, Sharon (James) Neu of Columbus Grove, Charlene (Kyle) Edwards of Elida and Yvonne (Lynn) Koenig of Delphos; three sons, Kevin (Teresa) Klaus and Richard (Janet) Klaus, both of Delphos, and Michael (Susan) Klaus of Elida; a sister, Patricia Brandehoff of Tucson, Ariz.; four brothers, Thomas (Janet) Klaus of Landeck, Howard (Eileen) Klaus of Venedocia, Edward (Therese) Klaus of Delphos and Keith (Peggy) Klaus of Bartlet, Tenn.; his stepmother, Rosemary Klaus of Venedocia; 14 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Rodney H. Klaus, and a sister, Clara K. Giesken.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos, the Rev. Randy Giesken officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Delphos, with military grave rites conducted by Delphos Veteran Council.

Calling hours are 1-9 p.m. today at Harter & Son Memorial Chapel, where a wake service is set for 8:30 p.m. today.

Preferred memorials are Delphos Visiting Nurses/Hospice or the DARE program of Van Wert.

MIDDLE POINT - Austin E. "Bus E. 'Bus' Miller
Died: Wednesday, August 14, 2002

MIDDLE POINT -- Austin E. "Bus" Miller, 91 of rural Middle Point died at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, at Van Wert County Hospital.

He was born Aug. 6, 1911, in Washington Township, Van Wert County, the son of the late Edward and Hazel (Snyder) Miller. He married Alice Coombs, who preceded him in death on March 14, 1999.

Mr. Miller was a retired lifetime farmer.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Evans of Van Wert, three grandchildren, James (Lisa) Evans of Fort Jennings and Nancy (Phil) Wermer and Lori (Dana) Sealscott, both of Van Wert, and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Karl Miller, and a great-grandchild, Jared Wermer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, the Rev. Paul Miller officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery, Middle Point.

Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is Middle Point Presbyterian Church, Van Wert.

Amber Lea Kirchenbauer
Died: Friday, November 30, 2001
Age: 21

Amber Lea Kirchenbauer, 21, of Antwerp, died at 5 a.m., Saturday, at Paulding County Hospital.

She was born April 1, 1981, in Van Wert, the daughter of David L. Kirchenbauer and Jacquelyn M. Crouch.

Ms. Kirchenbauer was employed at I & K Distributing, Delphos. She was a 1999 graduate of Celina High School where she had been active in track, cross country and Amnesty International.

Survivors include her father, David L. Kirchenbauer of Van Wert; her mother, Jacquelyn M. (step-father Bob) Crouch of Celina; two brothers, David L. Kirchenbauer II of Van Wert and Christopher M. Crouch of Celina; a sister, Melanie A. Kirchenbauer of Van Wert; grandfather, Lester Kirchenbauer of Van Wert; maternal grandmother, Mary Wallace of Novi, Mich.; step-grandparents, Melvin and Madonna Crouch of Celina; three aunts, Linda (Kirchenbauer) Bagley of Van Wert, Barbara Ross of Santa Ana, Calif., Michele Tufenkjian of Howell, Mich.; and a step-brother, Juston Crouch of Celina.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Evangelical Church, Van Wert, Pastor Clark Williman officiating. Burial will be in Mercer Memory Gardens, Celina.

Calling hours are from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert.

Preferred memorials are to Amnesty International.

DELPHOS - Melvin F Westrich
Died: Friday, November 30, 2001
Age: 90

DELPHOS -- Melvin F. Westrich, 90, passed away at 2:15 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, at the Sarah Jane Living Center, Delphos.

He was born Dec. 4, 1911, in Delphos, to Milton and Rose Grothouse Westrich. On Oct. 31, 1940, he married Adelia "Dee" Wehinger, who survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Linda Gerdenich of Aspen, Colo., Dee Ann and Dennis Lause of Riverside, Calif., and Kay and Mark Rasmus of Maumee; one son, Jack and Jane Westrich of Delphos; one sister, Maneta Heck of Germfask, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Eunice Westrich of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Mat Gerdenich, Wendy (Gerdenich) Schepferman, Julie Lause, Brian Lause, Alison Rasmus, Markus Rasmus, Colin Westrich and Corey (Westrich) Grothaus, and great-grandchildren, Claire Gerdenich, Annie Gerdenich, Will Schepferman and Brady Grothaus.

Mr. Westrich graduated from  Jefferson High School, Delphos, in May of 1930 and entered into business in October of 1937 as Westrich's Store. He joined the Delphos Fire Department in 1942 and retired from there in 1984 with 42 years of service. He was a member of the Peri- Ohio Employee Retirement Inc., the Ohio Library Council, the Delphos Public Library Board trustee for 39 years, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 471 in Delphos, a life member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1362 in Delphos, charter member of the Delphos Club, Delphos Country Club, Delphos Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris Fellow and he received perfect attendance at Rotary for 45 years, member of the Delphos Chamber of Commerce for 45 years, member of the Delphos Bowling Association and was inducted in the Bowlers Hall of Fame.

He was active in all local charities, along with the Delphos Canal Commission and instrumental in establishing the Canal Parking Lot. He was also active in organizing parades for the Old Fashioned Canal Days and the Delphos Centennial plus the State Fireman's convention. He was Delphos Herald's Tri-County Man of the Year in 2001. He also played semi-professional baseball for the Delphos City Team from 1930-40. He was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos.

The family would like to recognize all of Mel's caregivers at Sarah Jane Living Center, especially Alene Grothouse.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery.

Calling hours are 6-8 p.m. today and 2-8 p.m. Friday at Kolkmeyer-Helmkamp-Orians Funeral Home, Delphos, where the Knights of Columbus will hold a rosary and a parish wake service will be held at 8 p.m. Friday.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 331 E. Second St., Delphos, or St. John Catholic Schools, 515 E. Second St., Delphos, or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Betty June Missler
Died: Wednesday, October 23, 2002
Age: 78

Betty June Missler, 78, of Richey Rd., Van Wert, died at 7:33 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at Van Wert County Hospital.

She was born Aug. 16, 1924, in Paulding County, the daughter of the late Florence (Pease) and Orville M. Reed. In May, 1952, she married Edward Adam "Bud" Missler Jr., who preceded her in death on Oct. 3, 1929.

She is survived by three sons, Adam Missler of Van Wert, Barry Missler of rural Van Wert and Kevin Missler of Ohio City; two daughters, Sherry Darlene Missler and Beth Beyke, both of Van Wert; a sister, Etta May (Richard) Kreischer of Van Wert; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A son, Kenneth Missler, is deceased and a sister, Ruth Kreischer is deceased.

Mrs. Missler was a homemaker.

Private services for the family will be held at Cowan & Son Funeral Home. Burial will take place in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Convoy. There will be no calling.

ROCKFORD - James E Decker
Died: Tuesday, October 22, 2002
Age: 64

ROCKFORD - James E. Decker, 64, of Rockford died at 12:10 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, at his residence in Rockford following an extended illness.

He was born Oct. 14, 1938, in Paulding County, the son of the late Ward L. and Fay Afford (Stockberger) Decker. He was raised by his grandmother, Mary Ellen Decker Baer. On June 5, 1997, he married Barbara (Straley) Barnett, who survives as does his previous wife, Janice E. Decker of Van Wert.

Mr. Decker operated the Motor Inn Truck Stop at Mercer for 25 years and retired from MacDonald's Industrial Products, Inc., in Spencerville. He was currently the owner of B&J Vending. He was active at Trinity Friends Church, Van Wert, and involved in Trinity Friends Disaster Services. A U.S. Navy veteran, he attended Blue Creek (now Wayne Trace) High School near Haviland and was a former member of Van Wert Moose Lodge and Rockford Eagles.

Other survivors include a daughter, Julie  Jones of Celina; two sons, Randy (Pam) Decker of Mercer and Todd (Sherry) Decker of Celina; three stepchildren, John (Julie) Barnett of Wapakoneta, Shawn (Emily) Barnett of Willshire and Jenny Barnett of Dayton; one brother, Rex E. Decker of Bandera, Texas ; two sisters, Geneva A. Ellis of Van Wert and Patricia J. Bryie of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two cousins, Lawrence "Bud" Decker and Ireta Hutchinson, both of Scott, and 14 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Robert Decker, and a sister, Almeda "Dee" Simpson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Friends Church, Van Wert, the Rev. Neil Hammons of Trinity Friends Church officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Rockford, with military rites at graveside conducted by Harvey Lewis Post 346 of the American Legion.

Calling hours are 5-8 p.m. Thursday and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert, and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church. A memorial service conducted by the Van Wert Navy Club Ship 726 will be held at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are Celina Area Visiting Nurses - Hospice or Trinity Friends Disaster Services.

OAKWOOD - Florence Neocia Dimock
Died: Tuesday, October 22, 2002
Age: 81

OAKWOOD - Florence Neocia Dimock, 81, died at 8:40 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, at Harborside Healthcare Center of Defiance following an extended illness.

She was born July 20, 1921, in Van Wert County, the daughter of the late George W. and Florence Neocia (Rowe) Yoh. On March 19, 1938, she married Darold "Doc" Dimock, who survives.

Mrs. Dimock was a homemaker.

Other survivors include:

Son - Darold W. "Butch" Dimock (Patricia Shannon) of Defiance

Daughters - Connie (Richard) Weller and Brenda Eakins of Defiance, Karen (Wayne) Hughes of Tulsa, Okla., and Carlotta (James) Hahn of Cecil

Brother - Robert Yoh of Paulding

Thirteen grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter also survive.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, William D. and Gary L. Yoh, and a sister, Yvonne Matli.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, the Rev. Carol Ann Retcher officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance.

Calling hours are 2-9 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time Friday at the funeral home.
