CONVOY - Vernell V. "Hobby" Habegger
Died: Sunday, November 17, 2002
Age: 78

CONVOY - Vernell V. "Hobby" Habegger, 78, of Convoy died at 6:29 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, at Van Wert County Hospital.

He was born May 2, 1924, in Adams County, Ind., the son of the late Robert A. and K. Barbara (Biberstein) Habegger. On June 8, 1950, in Wren, he married Connie L. Poling, who survives in Convoy.

Mr. Habegger retired in December 1980 from International Harvester with 36.3 years of service.

Other survivors include:

Daughter - Charlene (Ron) Price of Decatur, Ind.

Sons - Randy J. Habegger of Willshire and Gale V. Habegger of Convoy

Sister - Deloris McCagg of New Haven, Ind.

Brother - Waynard "Wayne" Habegger of Decatur

Six grandchildren, Tony Falls, Shawn Falls and Tina Price, all of Fort Wayne, Ind., Ty Habegger and Taya Habegger, both of Willshire, and Austin Habegger of Convoy, also survive.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Myers and Cordella Hamrick.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, the Revs. Wayne Karges and Lynn Meford officiating. Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery, Decatur.

Calling hours are 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

CELINA - Barbara E Hoenie
Died: Sunday, November 17, 2002
Age: 58

CELINA - Barbara E. Hoenie, 58, of Celina died at 6:50 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, at Community Hospital, Coldwater, following a sudden illness.

Share was born April 25, 1944, in Gary, Ind., the daughter of the late Ralph and Thelma (Morris) Tryon.

On Aug. 1, 1997, she married Marvin Hoenie, who survives.

Mrs. Hoenie had formerly worked at Wal-Mart in Angola.

Other survivors include:

Son - Jim (Leann) O'Quinn of Hudson, Ind.

Daughter - Donna (Dan) Height of South Wayne, Wis.

Stepson - Jeff (Susan) Hoenie of Celina

Stepdaughters - Robin Hammond of Medina and Carol (Brett) Carpenter of Westerville

Brothers - Jerry O'Quinn of Flint, Mich., Donald O'Quinn of Atlanta, Ga., and David O'Quinn of Washington, D.C.

Sisters - Gloria Gunn of Valparaiso, Ind., Karen Waskusky of Merrillville, Ind., Carol Ramirez of Chicago, Ill., Colleen Pepperdine of Chicago, Mary Hackleman (address unknown)

Two grandchildren, Brenda and Tommy O'Quinn, also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. today at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Douglas R. Meyer officiating.

Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

OHIO CITY - Alice L Rice
Died: Sunday, November 17, 2002
Age: 89

OHIO CITY - Alice L. Rice, 89, of Ohio City died at 6:50 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, at Van Wert Manor Nursing Home, Van Wert.

She was born May 23, 1913, in Ridge Township, Van Wert County, the daughter of the late Horace and Etta Alice (Showalter) Mohler. On July 13, 1935, she married William Dean Rice, who preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 1967.

Mrs. Rice was a homemaker. A 1931 graduate of Ridge High School, she was a member of Ohio City United Methodist Church and WSCS.

Survivors include three sons, Charles D. Rice, Rodger D. (Barbara) Rice and Gary L. (Phyllis) Rice, all of Ohio City; three daughters, Ruth (James) Hill of Van Wert, Linda (James) Plasterer of Delphos and Barbara (Kenneth) Hill of Fort Wayne, Ind.; 19 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three children, Joyce Jent, John Jay Rice and Marilyn Bolenbaugh, one brother, Doyt L. Mohler, and two sisters, Ruby A. Mace and one infant sister.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, the Revs. Mike Waldron and Jim Robbins officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Calling hours will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, Ohio City.

Preferred memorial is American Cancer Society.

Ruby L Winhover
Died: Sunday, November 17, 2002
Age: 90

Ruby L. Winhover, 90, of Van Wert died at 6:38 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, at Vancrest Health Care Center, Van Wert.

She was born Jan. 30, 1912, in Van Wert, the daughter of the late Orrin and Flossie (Mosier) Klinger. On June 3, 1933, she married Cel Winhover, who preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 1983.

Mrs. Winhover was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Antwerp and was a longtime organist for the church.

Survivors include nieces, Juanita (Emmit) Lehman, Marsha Klinger and Debbie Klinger, nephews, Gerald (Esther) Thatcher, Larry Klinger, Robert Klinger, Billie Winhover, Bobbie Winhover, Bryan (Lori) Winhover, other nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister and a half brother.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brickner Funeral Home, the Rev James Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery, Middle Point.

Calling hours are 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are First Baptist Church of Antwerp and Paulding Visiting Nurses.

DEFIANCE - Rex E Keezer
Died: Saturday, November 16, 2002
Age: 69

DEFIANCE - Rex E. Keezer, 69, died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, at Hawthorn Court Nursing Home, Paulding.

He was born Feb. 15, 1933, in Paulding County, the son of the late Earl G. and Barbara M. (Brown) Keezer. On Oct. 30, 1954, he married Lucille A. Theis, who survives.

Mr. Keezer was a self-employed handyman, retiring in 1991.

Other survivors include:

Daughters - Nancy Keezer of Antwerp, Judy (Sammie)  Jones of Cecil and Marie (Mark) Coressel of Defiance

Sons - Jerry Keezer of Defiance, Dennis Keezer of Mark Center and Paul (Angie) Keezer of Antwerp

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, an infant sister and a granddaughter, Amy Keezer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, the Rev. Robert Merriman officiating. Burial will be in Sherman Cemetery, Brown Township, Paulding County.

Calling hours are 2:30-9 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

CELINA - Thomas Russell McNelly
Died: Saturday, November 16, 2002
Age: 58

CELINA - Thomas Russell McNelly, 58, of Celina died at 2:48 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, at Joint Township Memorial Hospital, St. Marys, following a sudden illness.

He was born Feb. 3, 1944, in Springfield, the son of Ella Christine (Randall) McNelly Hobart Creamens of West Mansfield and the late Harold Russell McNelly.

On Oct. 16, 1966, he married Karen M. Engle, who survives.

Mr. McNelly was a mill operator at Crown Equipment, Celina, and built custom fishing rods. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Survivors include:

Sons - Heath Richard (Susan) McNelly stationed with the U.S. Army in Germany, Hewe Ramone (Lori) McNelly of Coldwater and Holt Randall McNelly at home

Daughter - Hope Renee (Timothy) Stanley of Willshire

Brother - Jerry (Diane) Hobart of West Mansfield

Sisters - Mary Rose (John) Moran of Lakeview and Bonnie Brown of Caldwell

Stepfather - Duke Creamens of West Mansfield

Five grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Ray Hobart.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Jeanette Rode officiating. Burial will be in Mercer Memory Gardens, Celina.

Calling hours are noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

MENDON - John J. Clay
Died: Thursday, February 27, 2003
Age: 78

MENDON - John J. Clay, 78, of Mendon died at 10:45 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, at Colonial Nursing Center, Rockford.

He was born Sept. 29, 1924, in Union Township, Mercer County, the son of the late John Simon and Beatrice (Agler) Clay. On Dec. 13, 1947, he married Mary Lou Williams, who survives.

Mr. Clay had worked at the former Jasperson Supply Company and had retired from the Siferd-Hossellman Company, both in St. Marys.

Other survivors include:

Sons - Dennis (Janice) Clay and Barry (Vicki) Clay, both of Mendon

Brother - Paul (Faye) Clay of St. Marys

Sister - Mildred (Blaine) Drake of Convoy

Six grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Truman, Wilmer and Robert Clay, and a sister, Freda Clay.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Mendon, the Rev. Dr. Paul Bunnell officiating. Burial will be in Mendon Cemetery.

Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the Mendon funeral home.
