Died: Saturday, October 19, 2002
Age: 88

SPENCERVILLE - Ruth C. Monfort, 88, of Spencerville died at 1:45 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at Roselawn Manor Nursing Home, Spencerville.

She was born April 19, 1914, in Logan Township, Auglaize County, the daughter of the late Clarence E. and Myrtle (Rempfer) Dingledine. On March 21, 1931, she married J. Harold Monfort, who preceded her in death on May 15, 1982.

Mrs. Monfort was a retired seamstress with The Leader Store and later the Abram's Store in the Lima Mall.

Survivors include:

Daughter - Grace (Glen) Place of Spencerville

Brother - Clyde H. (Carrie) Dingledine of Wapakoneta

Brother-in-law - Dr. Homer Monfort of Columbus

Sisters-in-law - Delphene Monfort of Columbus, Madonna Monfort of Spencerville and Doris Dingledine of Lima

Two grandchildren, Michael (Bev) Place and Cara (Todd) Vandemark, both of Spencerville, two great-grandchildren, Keaton and Logan Vandemark, and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Michael and Sara Crisp, also survive.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Dr. David Place, and two brothers, Merlin and Carl Dingledine.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at Thomas E. Baylilff Funeral Home, Spencerville, the Rev. John G. Medaugh officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, east of Spencerville.

DELPHOS - Dr. Harold A Wieging
Died: Saturday, October 19, 2002
Age: 71

DELPHOS - Dr. Harold A. Wieging, 71, of Delphos died at 9:22 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.

He was born Oct. 22, 1930, in Delphos, the son of the late Joseph Anthony and Estella Antonette (Best) Wieging. He married Peggy Lee Byers, who survives in Delphos.

Dr. Wieging was past president of city council (1964-67), past mayor of Delphos (1968-71 and 1984-91) and Van Wert County precinct committe man. He was past partner to Pizza Pantry, owner of HAW Repair and Washington Warehouse, former owner of Harolds Bar and former high school principal at Fort Jennings. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, having received the Korean Service Medal, USAF Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Medal and USAF Achievement Medal.

Other survivors include:

Son - Michael Joseph Wieging of Texas

Daughters - Catherine Ann Myers of Nashville, Tenn., and Roxanne Marie Martin of Delphos

Brothers - Merlin (Mary Lou) Wieging of Upper Sandusky, Daryl (Judy) Wieging of Delphos and Donald (Barb) Wieging of Fort Wayne, Ind.

Sister - Colleen "Ann" Conley of Antwerp

Nine grandchildren, Brandon and Quinten Martin, Drew, Amanda, Tiffany and Airan Myers and Tara Myers Miller, Brett and Heather Wieging and four great-grandchildren, Ethan Mandic, Zachary, Austin and Nicholas Miller, also survive.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister.

A private service and visitation is planned.

Arrangements were handled by Harter & Son Funeral Home, Delphos.

DELPHOS - Myrtle M Brotherwood
Died: Friday, October 18, 2002
Age: 81

DELPHOS - Myrtle M. Brotherwood, 81, died at 8:40 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at Rose Lawn Manor, Spencerville.

She was born April 15, 1921, the daughter of the late Frank and Elsie (Blockberger) Carder. On Nov. 26, 1942, she married Francis F. Brotherwood, who preceded her in death in June 15, 1979.

Mrs. Brotherwood was a home health care giver.

Survivors include:

Sons - Dave (Shirley) Brotherwood, Karl (Shirley) Brotherwood and Alan (Ruth) Brotherwood, all of Delphos, and Chris (Teresa) Brotherwood of Texas

Daughters - Julie (Jack) Schosker and LaDonna (Robert) Siefker, both of Delphos, Doris Brotherwood of Fremont and Vivian (Robert) Mohler of Spencerville

Sisters - Amelia Bullinger of Fort Jennings, Lois Osting of Delphos and Marylou Bullinger and Janette Mesker, both of Oakwood

Brothers - Orville "Bud" Carder, Donald Carder and Del Carder, all of Delphos, and Richard Carder of Ottoville

Daughter-in-law - Judy Brotherwood of Spencerville

Twenty-six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Colleen Carder; two sons, Raymond and Roger Brotherwood; a daughter, Nancy Sue Brotherwood, and a grandson, Kevin Siefker.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church, the Rev. Randy Giesige officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.

Calling hours are noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at Harter & Son Funeral Home, Delphos, where a parish wake service is set for 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Annette J Fry
Died: Thursday, October 17, 2002
Age: 77

Annette J. Fry, 77, of Van Wert died unexpectedly at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, at her residence.

She was born Feb. 24, 1925, in Canton, the daughter of the late Elmer and Esther (Heath) Guinn.

On Sept. 30, 1942, she married Basil Eugene Fry, who preceded her in death on Sept. 8, 1986.

Mrs. Fry retired from Bordens Cheese in Van Wert after 30 years. She was a member of the Ohio City United Methodist Church, member and past worthy matron of the former Hyler Chapter 432 Order of the Eastern Star (now the Van Wert Chapter), Van Wert County Hospital Twigs and the auxiliary of American Legion Post 178, Van Wert.

Survivors include a daughter, Deanna (Joe) Speelman of rural Ohio City; three brothers, Richard (Jeanie) Guinn of Michigan and Donald (Judy) Guinn and Paul (Vicki) Guinn, both of Florida; two sisters, Virginia (Don) Bohnke of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Janet (Jimmy)  Jackson of Toledo; two grandchildren, Kandy (Hugh) Saunier and Angel Williams, both of Van Wert, and five great-grandchildren, Phillip Saunier, Matthew Saunier, Erika Williams, Tyler McNall and Brandon McNall, all of Van Wert.

She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Martha Lou Guinn.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, the Rev. Paul W. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ohio City.

Calling hours are 2-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home where an Order of the Eastern Star service will be held at 7 p.m.

Preferred memorial is Van Wert EMS.

PAYNE - Treva A Pfeiffer
Died: Thursday, October 17, 2002
Age: 90

PAYNE - Treva A. Pfeiffer, 90, of Payne died at 5:22 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, at Dallas Lamb Foundation Home, Payne.

She was born Oct. 9, 1912, in Payne, the daughter of the late Warren and Effie (Sorgen) Allison. On Jan. 1, 1941, she married John Pfeiffer, who survives in Payne.

Mrs. Pfeiffer retired as a cook at Dallas Lamb Foundation Home.

Other survivors include:

Son - Kent Pfeiffer of Antwerp

Daughter - Dawn Cluts of Montgomery, Ala.

Seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Payne, the Rev. Amy Haines officiating. Burial will be in Monroeville Memorial Cemetery, Monroeville, Ind.

Calling hours are after 4 p.m. Sunday at Slade Funeral Home, Payne.

DELPHOS - Marguerite "Marty" (Rinklin) Calvelage
Died: Wednesday, October 16, 2002
Age: 85

DELPHOS - Marguerite "Marty" (Rinklin) Calvelage, 85, died at 5:05 a.m. Wednesday, October 16, 2002, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.

She was born Feb. 17, 1917, in Bronx, New York, the daughter of the late John and Caroline (LeBrun) Rinklin. On Jan. 27, 1943, she married Hubert B. Calvelage, who survives in Delphos.

She was a secretary for Prudential Life Insurance and a homemaker.

Survivors include:

Son - James (Phyllis "Phud") Calvelage of Delphos

Daughters - Barbara (Bob) Foust of Findlay, Michele (David) Wittler of Delphos and Julie (Glenn) Bertling of Lima

Brother - John (Mary) Rinklin of Babylon, N.Y.

Son-in-law - Bruce Maag

Thirteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Maag.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church, the Rev. Thomas Gorman officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

Calling hours are 3-9 p.m. today at Harter & Son Funeral Home, where a parish wake will be held at 8:30 p.m.

FORT WAYNE
Died: Saturday, December 21, 2002

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Edith E. Driefke, 89, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at Heritage Park Nursing Home, Fort Wayne, where she had been a resident for two years.

She was born March 6, 1913, in Paulding County, the daughter of the late August and Verda (Essex) Driefke.

Miss Driefke was a payroll clerk for General Electric, Fort Wayne, Ind., for 27 years, retiring in 1978.

Three nieces and three nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Carl J. Driefke, and two sisters, Helen Shaw and Berniece Guingrich.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Den Herder Funeral Home. Burial will be in Live Oak Cemetery, Paulding.

Calling hours are 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
