Age: 63

Gloria K. Yahn, 63, of Van Wert, died early Saturday morning, Dec. 21, 2002, at her residence.

She was born Sept. 28, 1939, in Van Wert, the daughter of the late Karl and Evelyn (Rase) Schmidt. On June 1, 1958, in Convoy, she married Ray A. Yahn, who preceded her in death on July 2, 2002.

Mrs. Yahn was a homemaker and avid seamstress. She also worked in the office and library at Vantage Career Center in Van Wert.

She was a member of Calvary Evangelical Church in Van Wert, a member and held several offices in the Phi Beta Psi Sorority Cancer Foundation, a member of the Builder's Sunday School Class of the church and helped in the nursery as well as the Women Alive Committee, a member of Schleroderma Foundation, past executive director of Campfire and helped in starting church services at Huggy Bear Campground.

Survivors include two children, Randy Yahn of Ohio City and Teresa (Keith R.) Ream of Lima; one sister, Carole (Dan) Ehrler of Santa Monica, Calif., and two grandchildren, Parker Ray Clemens and Connor Ray Clemens.

She was preceded in death by two children, Rhonda Rae Yahn and Nicholas Ned Yahn; an infant brother, Raymond Schmidt, and a sister, Barbara Grunden.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert, the Rev. Raymond Feeck officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ohio City.

Calling hours are 2-8 pm. Thursday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are Schleroderma Foundation or Phi Beta Sorority Cancer Foundation.

ALFORD
Died: Friday, December 20, 2002

ALFORD, Fla. - Mary Louise Smith, 72, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, in the  Jackson County Hospital, Mariana, Fla.

She was born April 1, 1929, in Weston, Mich., the daughter of the late Claude and Lorene (Witt) Hughes. She married LeRoy "Red" Smith, who preceded her in death in 1978.

Mrs. Smith was a homemaker.

Survivors include:

Sons - William (Sharon) Smith of Delphos, Robert (Lori) Smith of Plant City, Fla., Donald (Patty) Smith of Antwerp and Craig Smith of Mansfield

Daughter - Susan Carter of Zephyhills, Fla.

Sixteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Smith, and a daughter, Janet Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, the Rev. Mary Beth Smith Webb officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Defiance.

Calling hours are 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 8-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

DELPHOS - Ruth L Lause
Died: Friday, December 20, 2002
Age: 81

DELPHOS -- Ruth L. Lause, 81, of Delphos, died at 11 a.m. Friday, December 20, 2002, at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.

She was born November 16, 1921, in Delphos, the daughter of the late Edward J. and Madeline (Eisenbeis) Lause.

Mrs. Lause's hobbies were crocheting and babysitting her nieces and nephews. She graduated from Delphos St. John's in 1939 and was a saleswoman for 45 years at Shenks Store in Delphos.

She is survived by one sister, Alice Ernst of Delphos. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law Paul Ernst. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 23, 2002, at St. John's Evangelist Church in Delphos, Father Thomas Gorman officiating. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, December 22, 2002 at Harter & Son Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery.

KOSSUTH - Evalyn Sandkuhl
Died: Friday, December 20, 2002
Age: 84

KOSSUTH - Evalyn Sandkuhl, 84, of Kossuth, died at 3:20 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at Otterbein Retirement Community, St. Marys, where she had resided for the past two years.

She was born June 9, 1918, in Kossuth, the daughter of the late Clarence and Eva C. Mack Leffel. On June 23, 1940, she married Charles E. Sandkuhl, who survives at the Otterbein Home, St. Marys.

Mrs. Sandkuhl was a homemaker and bookkeeper for her family at the Sandkuhl Tile Company in Kossuth.

Other survivors include:

Children - Eva Charlene (Charles A.) Dille, Leslie E. (Jackie) Sandkuhl and Lyle G. (Kathleen) Sandkuhl, all of Spencerville

Ten grandchildren, Charles A. (Teresa) Dille IV of Lebanon, EN2 Karen Sue Dille, U.S. Navy, Pascagoula, Miss., Christopher A. (Jessica) Dille of Earlanger, Ky., Ann L. (Ken) Engh of Kossuth, Michelle R. (Eric) Ballinger of Columbus, Rebecca S. (David) Shalak of Shawnee, Sally K. (Charles) Doty and April S. (Terry) Hellworth, both of Wapakoneta, Daniel L. Leiber of Spencerville and Kimberly J. (Chad) Prine of Converse, and 13 great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Kossuth-Zion Church, the Rev. Raymond S. Daniel Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Kossuth Cemetery.

Calling hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, and after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

DELPHOS - Mary Rose Hole
Died: Thursday, December 19, 2002
Age: 96

DELPHOS - Mary Rose Hole, 96, of Delphos died at 2:45 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002 at Van Crest Health Care Center in Delphos.

She was born Sept. 19, 1906 in Cleveland, the daughter of the late Gabriel and Kathryn (Magar) Smith. She married Oliver Smith, who preceded her in death. She then married Fred Hole, who also preceded her in death. Mrs. Hole was homemaker.

Survivors include: Sons - Howard (Dorothy) Smith of Delphos, Donald (Donna) Smith of Lima, Jack (Bonnie) Smith of Indiana, Tom (Marlene) Smith of St. Mary's, Robert John (Deb) Smith of Mendon and Oliver (Marilyn) Smith Jr. of Findlay Daughters - Sally Bohn of Defiance, Isabel (Ralph) Kramer of Fort Jennings, Shirley Perrin of Indiana, Mary Lou (Robert) Sailer of Hicksville, Nancy (Fred) Rayle of Indiana, Virginia (Larry) Clark of Lima and Katheryn (Curt) Martin of Delphos. Sisters - Lillian of Medina and Evelyn Hunter of Fort. Meyers, Fla. Brothers - Dick Smith and Carl Smith of Medina and Rev. Ralph Smith of California. Over 100 grand, great and great-great-grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol King; two brothers, Gabe and Julias Smith; and two sisters, Ellenor Kelly and Carolyn Shank.

Private services will be held for the family, the Father Randy Giesige officiating. Burial will be in Spencerville Cemetery.

Private visitation will be held for the family.

VAN WERT - Inas E Mace
Died: Thursday, December 19, 2002
Age: 93

VAN WERT - Inas E. Mace, 93, formerly of 507 S. Washington St., died, Thursday, December 19, 6:45 a.m. at the Vancrest Health Care Center.

She was born February 12, 1909 in Van Wert County, the daughter of Ed and Estella Wolfe Gardner, both deceased. She was married on May 24, 1930 to L. Earl Mace who preceded her in death in November, 1975.

She is survived by four children: Kathryn (Charlie) Wojcik, Fayetteville, Ohio; Romaine (Merle) Whetstone, Van Wert; Janet (Dick) Homan, Fairfield Glade, TN, Earlene (Ron) Rhodes, Plain City, Ohio; one brother: Dwight (Joan) Gardner, Van Wert; three sisters, Lena Shearer, Fort Wayne, IN; Esther (Lavon) Warner, Fort Wayne; Joyce (Jim) Rosendahl, Convoy; 12 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. One daughter, Beth Branstetter and one sister preceded her in death.

She taught school for 16 years at the Union Township School in Van Wert County and also in Spencerville upon retiring in 1969. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Van Wert. She had been involved with the Retired Teacher's Association at the local, state and national level. She was a member of the United Methodist Women.

A Memorial service will held at a later date. Preferred memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church. Arrangements by Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home.

CONVOY - Norman D Neiswander
Died: Thursday, December 19, 2002
Age: 92

CONVOY - Norman D. Neiswander, 92, of Convoy, died Thursday morning, December 19, 2002, at his residence in Convoy.

He was born September 3, 1910, in Bluffton, the son of the late Michael David and Lydia B. (Kaufman) Neiswander. On September 10, 1931, he married Geneva M. (Bayless) Neiswander in Van Wert, who preceded him in death June 15, 2001.

Other survivors include two sons, H. Richard (Ann) Neiswander of Richmond, Va. and Ronald W. (Fran) Neiswander of Convoy; six grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Three brothers and two sisters are deceased.

Mr. Neiswander was a lifetime farmer and a member of the Sugar Ridge Church of God in Convoy. He was a former adviser in the Pioneer 4-H Club and was a 50-year member of the Van Wert Masonic Lodge.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 23, 2002, at Gearhart, Mack & Jurczyk Funeral Home in Convoy, the Revs. Steve Waterman and Kenneth Laffin officiating. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22 at the funeral home. Burial will take place at the Convoy I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Convoy. Preferred memorials are to the Mission Aviation Fellowship or the church.

VAN WERT - Clark "Dutch" Reeder
Died: Thursday, December 19, 2002

VAN WERT - Clark "Dutch" Reeder, 714 Moberly St., Van Wert died at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 19 at his residence following a brief illness.

He was born on April 29, 1923 in Cairo, Ohio to Walter and Amelia Tew Reeder, both deceased. He was married to Rose E. Burley Reeder on March 21, 1947 who survives at the residence.

He is survived by two daughters Kathleen (Rich) Cooper, Van Wert, Christine (Bob) Looser, Delphos; three grandsons, Shawn and Aaron Cooper of Van Wert, Darren Looser, Delphos; two granddaughters, Stacy Looser and Kelly Looser, both of Delphos; one brother, Pierce Reeder, Leola, AR; two sisters, Shirley Melvin, Kinsman, Ohio and Maxine Hartshorn, Beavercreek, Ohio and one great-granddaughter, Mia Rose Cooper. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Snooks, Millard and Harold Reeder.

He was in business in Van Wert for over 45 years and for the last 30 years owned and operated Sportsman Tobacco Store. He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church. He graduated from Van Wert High School and served with the United States Marine Corps, 4th Division and was in the first wave at Iwo Jima and belonged to survivors of Iwo Jima. He was President of Marsh Foundation Alumni for 41 years, a 32nd degree Mason and life member of Van Wert Shriners Club, a life member and past commander of Robert G. Longwell Post #5803, V.F.W., member of Isaac Van Wert Post 178, American Legion. He was also a member of Eagles Lodge, Van Wert Garden Club, Old Fashioned Farmer Association, Ducks Unlimited, Animal Protective League and Sportsman Coffee Club, Wassenberg Art Center, Van Wert Horsemen Association, and the Ohio Harness Horse Association Director for 15 years of the Van Wert Agricultural Society -- Fair Board.

Services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 21, 2002 at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Van Wert. Officiating will be the Reverend Douglas Stockton of the Wesley United Methodist Church. Burial will be at the Ridge Cemetery in Ridge Township. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour ahead at the church on Saturday. military services at the grave side by combined posts of the American Legion #178 and V.F.W. #5803.

Preferred memorials are to the family. Funeral director is Cowan and Son Funeral Home, Van Wert.

PAULDING - Beulah M. Hungate Colley
Died: Wednesday, December 18, 2002
Age: 78

PAULDING - Beulah M. Hungate Colley, 78, died Wednesday, December 18, at the Hawthorn Court Nursing Home in Paulding.

She was born September 5, 1924 in Paulding County, the daughter of Archie and Stella Griffis Rothenhofer. In 1942, she married  Jackson O. Hungate, who died in 1966. In December 1967, she married Tom Colley, who died June 15, 1995. She was a homemaker and attended Latty United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two sons: Larry (Karen) Colley, El Paso, TX, and Bradley Colley, Paulding, one daughter, Linda Enz, Houston, TX and one daughter-in-law, Barbara Hungate, Woodford, VA, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands,  Jackson Hungate and Tom Colley, one son, Jack Hungate and three brothers: Harold H. Rothenhofer, George Rothenhofer and Glenn Rothenhofer and one sister, Helen.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 23, at the Den Harder Funeral Home at 1 p.m. with Reverend Jack Berry officiating. Burial will be held at the Blue Creek Cemetery, Haviland.

Visitation will be held Sunday, December 22, from 2-5 p.m. and 8 a.m. until service time on Monday.

Donations may be made to the donor's choice.
