Carl R. McKinney

Carl Rollin McKinney, 90, of 502 Westview Drive, Zanesville, died suddenly at 9:30 p.m.Thursday, August 1, 2002 at Genesis Bethesda Hospital emergency room, just hours before his Golden (50th) wedding anniversary to Betty Ann Engle McKinney, whom he married on August 2, 1952.

Mr. McKinney was a well known retailer in Zanesville, as owner with his wife, Betty Ann, of Jans Childrens Shop for nearly twenty years, from 1965 to 1984. Jans Childrens Shop was located in the Country Fair Shopping center, and later in the Colony Square Mall.

Mr. McKinney came to Zanesville in 1950 as an industrial engineer with Line Material Company, which later became McGraw Edison. He held this position for fifteen years. Previous to coming to Zanesville, Mr. McKinney worked for Samson United in Rochester, New York. Prior to that he had been employed by Curtis Wright in Columbus, and United Aircraft in Dayton.

Mr. McKinney was a member of Central Presbyterian Church and a former member of Zanesville Country Club. He also was a former president of Line Material Credit Union.

He was the only son of the late Rollin Fletcher and Louise Hurdle McKinney, born in Clermont County, Ohio, on May 14, 1912. He was preceded in death by a sister, Rosalind Clinger, of Columbus, in January 1995.

He is survived by his widow, Betty Ann Engle McKinney, a son, John Richard McKinney of Columbus; a daughter Anne Elizabeth McKinney of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and a daughter and son-in-law, Jodi Alice and Steve Ransom of Hilliard, Ohio; a grandson, Matthew McKinney-Beck of Albuquerque; and three grandaughters, Maralyn McKinney-Beck of Albuquerque, and twins... Ellen Elizabeth and Stephanie Ashton Ransom of Hilliard.

Funeral Services will be held in Zanesville Memorial Park at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 6, 2002, at the family plot on the hill near the chimes tower. Dr. Kenneth V. Kettlewell of Springfield will officiate. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Monday, August 5, 2002 at Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville. Flowers are welcome, or memorial contributions may be made to: The John McIntire Public Library or the Carl McKinney Memorial Foundation c/o Century National Bank for the grandchildren's education.

RICHARD D. "RICK" BONIFIELD

Richard D. " Rick" Bonifield, 56, of Zanesville, Ohio died at 9:19 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2002 at Genesis Bethesda Hospital emergency room.

He was born September 1,1945 in Zanesville, a son of Virginia McFarland Axline and the late John William " Jack" Bonifield.

He was a Home Based Therapist for Tompkins Child & Adolescent Center, and retired from Muskingum County Job & Family Services. He was a member of the Euclid Avenue United Methodist Church, the MACE Club at Muskingum College, and the Zanesville Quarterback Club. He graduated from Muskingum College and Zanesville High School where he played football. He loved his family and was an avid outdoorsman.

Surviving is his mother & step-father, Virginia & Wilson Axline of Zanesville, his wife, Jacqueline A. Neff Bonifield, whom he married June 23, 1995, of the home, step-mother, Jean Bonifield of Zanesville, son, Richard John Bonifield of Zanesville, two daughters, Anne Elizabeth Bonifield of Circleville, Abey Renee Bonifield of Zanesville, two step sons, Tyler & Wade Kaido both of the home, brother, Mark Bonifield of Zanesville, a Aunt, Betty Robinson of Zanesville, niece, Jill Bonifield of Atlanta, Georgia.

Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Friday, August 2, 2002 at Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville where services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 3, 2002 with Rev. Donald Riker, Rev. Clarence Dinnen, and Mr. Tony Maple. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park.

In Lieu of flowers; memorial contributions may be made in Rick's memory to : to any organization that benefits children.

William E. (Bill) Young
William E. ( Bill) Young, age 86, of Zanesville, Ohio died at 1:50 p.m. Monday July 29, 2002 at the Cedar Hill Care Center.

He was born May 4, 1916 in Zanesville, the son of the late
Thomas & Lena Young. Mr. Young was a retired truck driver for the Matesich Distributing Co.,an Army Veteran of WW2,recevinng the Bronze Star Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal. He was a member of the VFW George Selsam Post 1058.

Surviving a sister, Ruthann Rider of Zanesville, several nieces & nephews, and special friend, Corinne Irvin.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Catherine Erskein, Eloise Allen and Frances Crook.

Friends may call 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday July 31, 2002 at the Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville, where services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Walter Bowman officiating. Burial will be at Zanesville Memorial Park.

Margaret V. Bowman

Margaret V. Bowman, 102, of Zanesville died at 10:28 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2002 at Willow Haven Nursing Home.

She was born at Bristol, WV, a daughter of the late John & Anna Belle Harter Vore. She was a member of the Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall South.

Surviving are one son, Ralph B. ( Monna) Bowman of Zanesville, daughter-in-law Janet Bowman of Zanesville, one sister, Grace Bebout of Belpre, seven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death in addition to her parents, her husband, Milton C. Bowman, who died May 30, 1977, two sons, Milton R. Bowman Jr. and Robert E. Bowman, nine brothers & sisters.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville, where services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park.

Dallas H. Ullom
Dallas H. Ullom, age 80, of 1856 Adams Lane, died at 7:00 p.m. Saturday July 27, 2002, at the Adams Lane Care Center.

He was born November 30, 1921 in Logan Ohio the son of the late Frank & Ethel Mae Hixenbaugh Ullom. He was the former owner & operator of Dal's Texaco Service Station. He was crowned the Sweetheart King of Mapleview Terrace Highrise in 1994.

Surviving are three nieces, Diana Yerian of Zanesville, Alleda ( Carl ) Moore of Newark, and Vicki Vance of Columbus, one nephew, Donald ( Cheryl) Ullom of Dresden, and several great nieces & nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Sanford & Robert Ullom.

No calling hours will be observed. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 1, 2002 at Zanesville Memorial Park with the Rev. Mark Ballmer officiating. Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville, Ohio is entrusted with arrangements.

Lloyd E. Saffell

Lloyd E. Saffell, age 62, of Salesville, Ohio died at 6:20 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2002 at Genesis Morrison House.

He was born December 5, 1939 in Alledonia, from humble beginnings and achieved great things, respect, and the love of many people.He passed from this earth into the wonderful gates of heaven July 23, 2002. He had suffered from a long illness. He was a very loved husband, father, uncle, and friend. His family and friends will miss him dearly. Mr. Saffell was a heavy equipment operator and was the owner & operator of the L & S Trucking Co.

Surviving are his wife, Pamuela A. Luman Saffell, whom he married August 7, 1977 of the home, one daughter, Danielle R. Cline of Danville, Ohio, two sons, Kevin E. Saffell & Linda Murphey of Shreve, Fred A. (Ruby) Cline Jr. of McKee, Ky.,two sisters, Lucille Gillette of N.C., and Nancy Mollendick of Bellaire Oh., four brothers, Twin Floyd (Judy) Saffell of Alledonia, Roger Saffell of Bellsville, John (Beth) Saffell of New Lexington, and Mike (Juanita) Saffell of Bellsville.

Besides his parents Kenneth and Sylvia Rushak Saffell, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Bob Saffell, Dick Saffell and Donnie Saffell.

Friends may call 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2002 at the Bolin Funeral Home,1271 Blue Ave. Zanesville, where funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2002 with the Rev. Larry Brisker officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Ancel Luburgh
Ancel G. Luburgh, age 82, of Zanesville, Ohio died at 1:00 AM Tuesday July 23, 2002 at Genesis Good Samaritan Medical Center.

He was born May 8, 1920 in Norwich Ohio the son of the late Otto Clata and Lura Dorcus Christy Luburgh. Mr. Luburgh was a farmer, envolved in construction and a retired businessman. He attended the Norwich Grade School,graduated from the New Concord High School, a Muskingum Twp. Trustee for 8 years, the Muskingum County Board of Elections for 4 years, a Central committeeman for Muskingum Twp. for 35 years,served as a Muskingum County Commisioner for 91/2 years, the Hearing Aid & Fitters License Board for 8years, The Advisory Council on Aging for nine years, the 169 Board for 18 years, the Rambo Board of Trustee's for 10 years,the Easter Seal Board for 20 years, where he started the Easter Seal Cake Auction. Mr. Luburgh was a member of the Muskingum Presbyterian Church where he served as an Trustee & Elder.

Surviving are his wife Ada Blackford Luburgh, (married Oct, 16, 1940), of the home, one son Ronald Lee(Ruth) Luburgh of Zanesville, three grandchildren, eight step grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Rickie Kevan Luburgh,two sisters, Roberta Luburgh Tyson and Lela Luburgh Tyson and one brother Clata Marrett Luburgh.

Friends may call 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 Thursday July 25, 2002 at the Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave. Zanesville, Ohio where funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday with the Rev. Dr.Kenneth V. Kettlewell officiating. Burial will follow at Muskingum Presbyterian Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Muskingum County StarliteSchool or to the Alfred Carr Center.

Jerry Curtis
Jerry Curtis, 68 of Columbus, Ohio died at 9:05 p.m. Monday, July 22, 2002 at his residence.

He was born December 13, 1933 at Columbus, Ohio a son of Delbert Curtis of Mt. Vernon and the late Myrtle Lowery Curtis. He was a self-employed antique dealer and a protestant by faith.

Surviving in addition to his father, his wife, Dixie Craig Curtis of the home, two sons Gary Curtis of London, Ohio & Jerry Curtis of Bellefontaine, Ohio, two daughters, Debra Newsome of Dayton, Ohio & Beverly Chumley of Florida,nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one brother and two sisters are surviving .

He was preceded in death in addition to his mother, one brother and one sister.

Friends may call from 5-8 Thursday, July 25, 2002 at Schoedinger Funeral Home, Hilltop Chapel, 3030 West Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio . Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2002 at New Straitsville Cemetery, New Straitsville, Ohio. Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville entrusted with arrangements.
