Clarice Eaton
Clarice Eaton, age 97, of 3125 East Pike, Zanesville, Ohio, died at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2003 at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital. She was born December 23, 1905 in  Jefferson County, Alabama, the daughter of the late William Loveliss and Virginia S. Ward Walton.Mrs. Eaton was a former employee in the packaging dept. at Gibson Meats.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Alphonso Eaton, who died September 9, 1962.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2003 at Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville, with Elder Terrance Brown officiating. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. till service time at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.

James A. Buchanan
James A. Buchanan, age 63, died unexpectantly Thursday, June 5, 2003 at 4:30 p.m. at Mercy Medical Center Canton, He was beloved and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

He was born April 24, 1940 at Zanesville, Ohio. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Judy Ann Brown Buchanan of Massillon, son and daughter-in-law, James J. and Lori Pritchard Buchanan of Fostoria, daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Forrest ( Ed) Sunkle of Massillon, sister, Eileen ( Don ) Anders of Zanesville, and a brother, Glenn ( Debbie ) Buchanan of Florida. He is also survived by three grandchildren that he adored, Chancelor and Cameron Sunkle of Massillon and Callie Buchanan of Fostoria and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother, John and June Wilson Buchanan, a brother, Richard Buchanan and a grandson, Cordell Sunkle.
He worked at Grief Brothers for thirty years before retiring in November of 2000. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, a member of United Commercial Travelers and served as secretary for 17 years as well as being a member of American Legion and Sons of Herman. His favorites past times including playing golf, watching NASCAR races and the Cleveland Browns.

Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2003 at Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville, Ohio where services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Tom England officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 9, 2003 at Calvary Cemetery, Massillon.

Dale D. Jones

Dale D. Jones, age 74, of Nashport, Ohio, died at 4:58 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at Genesis Bethesda Hospital. He was born January 2, 1929 in Caldwell, Ohio the son of the late Charles L. and Mary Chloe Blosser Jones. Mr.  Jones worked in the Special Service Division for Ohio Bell where he was employed for 40 years retiring January 1989. He was a life member and a past president of the Zanesville Sertoma Club, a Navy Veteran of World War II, member of American Legion Post 29 and an avid golfer and bowler.

Surviving are his wife, Iva L.  Jones of the home, daughter, Sharon (Tom) Bryant of Olathe KS., grandson, Scott Herrington of Pittsburgh PA., two step daughters, Misti (Jerry) Kelly of Highspring FL., and Aubury (John) Coffey of Nashport.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Norma J.  Jones who died in 1987 and sister Kathryn N. Miller.

Friends may call 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2003 at Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave. Zanesville. A caring cremation will follow with no services to be held.

CHARLES C. ROSS
Charles C. Ross, 77, of Zanesville died at 4:20 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2003 at his home. He was born May 2, 1926 at Rose Farm, Ohio a son of the late Calvin & Ruth M. Williams Ross. He graduated from Crooksville High School, was employed for several years for Top Value Stamps, was a World War II Army Veteran, a 60 year member of Eagles Lodge # 1979 of Crooksville, he enjoyed refinishing furniture, playing cards and golf.

Surviving are his wife, Martha J. Leaman Ross whom he married November 16, 1949 of the home, brother, Donald ( Lee ) Ross of Ogden, Utah, brother-in-law John " Jack " Leaman of St. Louis, MO., four sister-in-laws, Helen Leaman of Zanesville, Dorothy Leaman of Shawnee, Alice Leaman of Saginaw, MI., and Ruth Leaman of Newark and several nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death besides his parents by sister, Jean Cross

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2003 at Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2003 with Rev. Wilbur White officiating. Burial will follow at Crooksville Cemetery, Crooksville.

Carl W. Butcher
Carl W. Butcher, 82 of Miami, Florida, died Friday, May 30, at 12:47 p.m.at Doctors Hospital in Miami. He was born in Fairmont, West Virginia on May 27, 1921 a son of the late Ira Wade & Minnie Austin Butcher. He retired as a factory worker for NCR.

Surviving are two sons, Roger Butcher of Chesapeake, Virgina and Robert William Butcher of Florida, five grandchildren, James L. Butcher and Jessica Butcher both of Dayton, Robert D. Butcher of Miami, Fl and Krisann and Ryan Butcher both of North Carolina, two great grandchildren, two brothers, Chuck ( Alice) Butcher of Cambridge and Earl Butcher of Dayton.

Friends may call from 9:00 a.m.till 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2003 at Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Woodlawn Cemetery with Fr. Tom DiFede officating..

Shirley A. Binkley
Shirley A. Binkley, 66 of Nashport died at 6:00 a.m.Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at her home. She was born March 11, 1937 at Zanesville a daughter of the late Joseph & Beatrice Headley Kassell. She was a homemaker and loved her grandchildren.

Surviving are two sons, Steven E. Binkley of Columbus and Randy Binkley of Nashport, four grandchildren, Mitch Dobbins, Rachel Dobbins, Shirley Binkley and Randy Binkley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert E. Binkley who died June 9, 1991, son, Robert Allen Binkley and grandson, Steven Binkley.

Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2003 at Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville. A caring cremation will follow with burial at Poplar Fork Cemetery at a later date.

Doris Marie Dennis
Doris Marie Dennis, age 67, of Zanesville, died at 8:35 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2003 at the Genesis Hospice- Morrison House. She was born October 12, 1935 in Zanesville, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Lucy Mehler Wickham. Mrs. Dennis was a former school bus driver for the Zanesville City Schools and a member of the Land of Lakes WBCCI Camping Club.

Surviving are her husband Albert (Joe) Dennis, whom she married March 12, 1954, of the home, three daughters, Susan (Karl) Border of Zanesville, Connie (Keith) Adkins of Chandlersville, and Marcie (Steve) Wamack of Zanesville, son, Albert Jody (Kim) Dennis Jr. of Roseville, sister, Betty (Richard) Kreuter of Zanesville, brother, Donald (Ruth) Wickham of Zanesville, nine grandchildren, Melissa,Kelly (Kerry) and Kevin Border, Steve Wamack Jr. and Wesley Wamack, Heidi, Ashley, Mandy and A. J. Dennis, two adopted grandchildren, Ashley and Melissa Mattox.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by sister Evelyn Wickham, brother David Wickham and a special aunt Amelia Mehler.

Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2003 at Bolin Funeral Home with Pastor L. Dale
McCallister officiating. Burial will be at Zanesville Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Genesis Hospice and Palliative Care, 713 Forest Ave., Zanesville, Ohio.

EVELYN E. BRAUNING

Evelyn E. Brauning, age 75, of Zanesville died at 6:58 p.m. Sunday, July 27, 2003 at her home. She was born at Haydenville, Ohio a daughter of the late Robert & Elma Hill Bentley. She was a homemaker and an active member of the Zane Trace Church of Christ. She enjoyed her time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Surviving are five daughters; Betty ( Doyle ) Darst of Lancaster, Martha Bronkar, Linda ( Ron ) Baughman, Marie ( Jim ) Barrett all of Zanesville and Teresa Thomas of Norwich, twenty three grandchildren, forty great grandchildren, and ten great great grandchildren, one brother, Dale Ackerman of Zanesville and her loving companion, Robert " Buck " Debolt of Zanesville.
She was preceded in death in addition to her parents by her husband, William S. Brauning who died August 2, 1994, one son, Joseph Vandermark, one granddaughter, Angel Marie McNally and two brothers.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville where services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2003 with Evangelist Lester Hurst officiating. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park.

JAMES A. " ALK " GOURLEY

James A. " Alk " Gourley, age 49 of Zanesville, died at 3:00 a.m. Monday, July 21, 2003 at his home. He was born March 6, 1954 at Zanesville, a son of the late John A. & Donna Jean Barker Gourley. He was a contractor for Birkhimer Asphalt Co. and had worked for Halliburton as a fracur. He loved to hunt and fish and was a U.S. Navy Veteran..

Surviving are son, John ( Laura ) Gourley of New Straitsville, two step-daughters, Angie Jadwin of Beverly and Kerri ( Larry ) Hina of Zanesville, nine grandchildren, five sisters; Kay ( Larry ) Weaver, Trudy Valentine, Phyllis ( Tim ) Roll, Monna ( Tom ) McGee all of Zanesville and Taci Higgins of Buckeye Lake. Many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by his sister, Thea Greather.

No calling hours will be observed a caring cremation has taken place. Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville is entrusted with arrangements.

Elinor E. Achauer

Elinor E. Gibson Achauer, age 87 of Franklin, formerly of Larzelere Avenue, Zanesville, who was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother went to be with her Lord at 4:23 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2003 at the Sycamore Glen Healthcare Center in Miamisburg.She was born March 7, 1916 at Muskingum Co. a daughter of the late Anna Pauline Young Gibson Riggs and James T. Gibson who died in World War I. She retired in 1979 from Line Materials- McGraw Edison in the Engineering Department, had worked at bingo for the Eagles Lodge followed by the Animal Shelter and was member of the St. Lukes American Lutheran Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda Sue ( Roland ) Steer of Zanesville and Rose Ann ( Robert ) James of Franklin, whom she had made her home with for five years, one sister; Marie Haken of Muskegon, Michigan, five grandchildren; Dean ( Cindy ) Steer of New Concord, Donn ( Patty ) Steer of Nashport, Barbara Lindner of Oklawaha, Florida, Dr. Steven ( Jeannie ) James of Oak Ridge, Tenn.and Lisa ( Russ ) Whitman of Franklin, eleven grandchildren, three nieces and one nephew.

She was preceded in death in addition to her parents, by her step-father, John V. Riggs, sister, Ruth Anna Mahon, brother-in-law, Ralph Haken and one niece, Janet Mahon Jordan.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 26, 2003 at Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville with Rev. Jeff Belt officiating. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. til service time on Saturday.

HAROLD R. CLOSE, SR.
Harold R. Close, Sr. age 80, of Zanesville died at 12:30 a.m. Sunday, July 20, 2003 at Genesis Hospice- Morrison House. He was born March 18, 1923 in Edwardsville, Il. a son of the late Harold L. and Helen M. Ohm Close. He retired from Ohio Bell Telephone as a central office technician. He was a 50 year member of Central Trinity United Methodist Church, a decorated World War II Army veteran who received two Bronze Stars for Bravery, member of VFW George Selsam Post 1058, American Legion and a former member of Falls Twp. Fire Department.

Surviving are two daughters; Cristia J. Coffey and Kathy J. ( Jack ) Bradshaw both of Newark; son, Harold R. ( Kandy ) Close Jr. of Dover; five grandchildren, Julianna Coffey, Adam Coffey, Jeremy Bradshaw all of Newark, Patrick Bradshaw of Colorado Springs, Co.and Kyle Close of Dover. one great grandson, Caleb Bradshaw of Colorado Springs, CO. Also surviving is a very special friend, Martha Thorla of Zanesville.

He was preceded in death in addition to his parents, by his wife, M. Jane Robinson Close, who died April 19, 1994, and by two brothers, Robert Close and Howard ( Pete ) Close.

Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2003 at Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2003 with Rev. Tom England officiating. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park.VFW George Selsam Post 1058 will hold military rites at the grave.
